Reviews / Re: Proxima's Reviews
July 01, 2020, 10:46:06 PM
Hey Proxima, this is an awesome thread, this is really close to what I've been hoping myself to do from like 2015 already, but I haven't got very far yet. :) My initial thought was to create a "Top 10 best levelsets" topic where I post a review of one levelset per day, and I've written notes down of everything I've played, but I haven't polished them in a review form yet. Your list of aspects is delightfully comprehensive, I myself had in mind something like this (namida's Lemmings Plus I as an example):

Lemmings Plus I
[images of some of the levels]
Author: namida
Release date: November 26th 2009
Main platform: Lemmix, NeoLemmix
Rankings and levels: Mild/Wimpy/Medi/Danger/PSYCHO; 30/30/30/30/30, total 150
Graphic sets: Dos Original Lemmings and Dos Oh No! More Lemmings
Custom music: yes in Lemmix ?? no in NeoLemmix ??
No talismans, no features, etc.
Link to the pack
[The review itself that contains historical context, difficulty evaluation and everything else about the levelset]

Keep up the good work, this thread is nice to read! I'm really hoping to get enough inspiration to write my own reviews some time soon. :)

General Discussion / Re: General Comings and Goings
July 01, 2020, 10:20:29 PM
Hey all, I haven't been that active for a while, I see the last time I've really solved levels and posted on the forums is from last Summer.

Since Spring-Summer 2019 I have had most challenging times with my real life stuff and I really have tried to do lots of things to uphold my mental health. Lemmings is and probably will always be one such thing that gives me joy. I haven't really played anything else regarding to video games, either, after completing Celeste in January 2019.

But I haven't played even Lemmings for almost a year now, and there's another reason for that, that my laptop is already 6 years old and getting slower and slower. I noticed that even NeoLemmix got a bit strenuous to use. Also, I realized a while ago that people moved from irc to Discord, and Discord is a pretty heavy software for my computer and it lags too much to be used pleasantly for me. Another thing about Discord that I've mentioned many times earlier is that it asks captcha from me always when logging in and sending logging confirmation to my e-mail, which makes Discord even slower to use for me (I am using the desktop app and a USB modem).

Yeah, I should be getting a new PC sooner or later for sure. For now I'm a bit worried about my Microsoft Office license that I got from my university to this computer, and I've already graduated so I can't move that license to a new computer anymore. :P But that's a minor thing, or at least it should be.

I'm reading the forums every day still! But I can't keep up with the Discord discussion, nowadays I am not reading them practically at all, there's too much going on there. :P And all in all, a new PC should fix most of the problems. I am a person that doesn't easily throw old stuff away before they're really broken, sooo I'm not sure when that's going to happen. :P

It's good to see that the forums seem to do very well and we have lots of activity here! I'm really hoping to jump along some time in the future. :)

Quotethink of that - finding a backroute to an IchoTolot level!
To be clear: These are no IchoTolot levels! They are just maintained by me and they were originally created by Pieuw.

Created by Dodochacalo, not Pieuw. :)

Re-solved some of the updated levels!

Spoiler
Mutilation 10: Twisted Track -  This is somehow a hard level for me. A digger and a blocker saved, so not intended I guess?
Mutilation 14: Started From The Bottom... - Similar than my previous solution, but now I needed to use the bomber.
Decimation 2: The Winning Edge - This feels intended. The structures on the right did matter after all!
Decimation 10: Across The Sky - Okay, now I had to juggle with three of the cloners. One bomber and thus an extra guy saved.
Decimation 12: A Lot Of Lemming Going On Here - My solution barely works, basher+platformer+builder placement is pixel precise in its height, and the time limit is just enough with this crowd cycle. An extra lemming saved.
Obliteration 3: Lemming On A Prayer - Okay, this I had spoiled myself because I solved it already via backroute and then read the hint. :p
#5
The pack is getting tough now! I haven't read the hints yet, except for the levels I've solved.

Spoilery comments:

Spoiler

Obliteration 4: White Noise - I am not even close on this one yet. :P I thought my best attempt was crossing the digger and basher but I don't have the means to turn the worker lemming around at the right side of the level to build a bridge over the water for the crowd.
Obliteration 9: Aquadynamics - Skipped at first and solved after Obliteration 10-12, when I realized that I could actually take both lemmings over the one-way wall at the right.
Obliteration 10: Dirty Joke - The one-way stacker was the key element in the middle of the level. :P
Obliteration 11: Bending the Rules - This is most probably a backroute.
Obliteration 12: The Golden Rule of Lem - A ferocious looking level, but really fun to play! It's always a good feeling when one plays a level that seems huge but it turns out to be a lot more accessible than one would think at first.
#6
Sega set levels are giving me troubles in Obliteration. Here's Obliteration 5-8 attached, they were all great levels!
#7
Here's attempt solutions for Decimation 11 and 15, also I solved three first Obliteration levels. I'm utilising the new attachment restrictions here. :P

Spoiler

Decimation 11: Caving Under Pressure -  My approach is brute-forceish so I really think there's another route which is intended. I didn't work on my way with the crowd control yet before finding the correct digger-builder placement for the blocker release in that mound (I tried it from the both sides of the blocker, both the worker lemming and a crowd lemming, both digger facing at the blocker or away from blocker).
Decimation 15: The Longest Minute - This is a failure by one frame, that one guy eagerly goes to the void. :P I'd think that my skill placements are correct. I also did this level so that the last entering lemming was already hopping to the exit but the timer went to zero.
Obliteration 1: A Severe Case of Lemmingitis - A breather here, a really straightforward level.
Obliteration 2: Good Lemmings Die Young - A good and well-placed level.
Obliteration 3: Lemming On A Prayer - This one I suspect backrouting.

Hey, I started to play this pack and solved the first two ratings except Decimation 11: Caving Under Pressure and Decimation 15: The Longest Minute. I haven't looked at any of the hints yet or the Obliteration rating.

Comments (contain spoilers):

Spoiler

Mutilation 4: Jump Scene - Basher saved. Also this is clearly the easiest level in the pack.
Mutilation 14: Started From The Bottom - Climber and bomber saved.

Decimation 3: Lemming Semantics - A nice map, solved immediately though, so should be in the first half of Mutilation probably.
Decimation 4: Oh Blast... - Same here, though again this nice trick of yours from Dead is the New Black and Odyssey. :D

Decimation levels 1, 3, 4 and 6 are solved as fast as Mutilation levels, so there's no apparent difficulty gap there in my opinion. Mutilation has a nice difficulty curve, though especially levels 13 and 15 are harder than this first half of Decimation, probably on purpose.

Decimation 8: Mission: Difficult - The good old stepover turnaround saved me after trying the super annoying pixel precise fatal fall for non-glider climber, grr!
Decimation 10: Across The Sky - I didn't use cloners (for other than reaching the save requirement).
Decimation 12: A Lot Of Lemming Going On Here - Floater and extra lemming saved.

My solutions for both Decimation 11: Caving Under Pressure and Decimation 15: The Longest Minute fail by single pixel or frame, even in different attempts, so I'm now quite worn out by these two...

Heyaa, dare I ask what's the situation with this upcoming pack? :) :) :) :) :) Absolutely no rush at all, I'm just pretty curious.
#10
Thanks for converting this pack to new formats, I've been longing for this for some time!

I saved my solutions for all 120 levels and they're attached to this post. This was my second playthrough of this pack, the first was in February 2015 for vanilla Lemmix engine.

Some new levels and redesigns of old levels were nice, they also can be seen in GeoffLems Minipack in the level database.
And if namida (or someone else) wondered about the intended solutions, Geoffster himself made a YouTube playlist of them, starting from Tricky rating.

NeoLemmix Levels / Re: [NeoLemmix] Lemmings United
April 20, 2019, 10:45:53 PM
Heyaa, my Pacifism solutions are attached! I played v3.5 so only 1-28 is maybe not working or so (?).

Pacifism could be the hardest starter rating in any pack that has this many ratings in an ascending difficulty order, so yeah, I'm not going to try to clear most of the pack before posting my solutions and comments so far. And considering how other people have done, the last rating of Lemmings Reunion might be at the same level of difficulty as maybe something like the third rating in United? :P Yeah, well see then, maybe Tension rating is the ultimate rating in this pack I (and maybe many other people) dare to tackle, who knows?! :D Anyway, this pack feels very ambitious in its scope, and I kind of like it!

Levels I don't know if I solved acceptably: Pacifism 27: Dr. Do-Ping's Hideout and 29: Bring in the Siege Engineer!

Levels I consider original or creative: Pacifism 13: Village Of Winds, 17: More Resistance!, 20: Silent Partner, 26: The Circular Lemming Reactor, 31: Slipstream

Pacifism 41: As Far As Peace Can Go - No idea what's the tileset but the liquid here looks fantastic in motion! Also the song is nice in that ending part.

NeoLemmix Levels / Re: Doomsday Lemmings
April 01, 2019, 07:03:18 AM
Like Holiday LP, I played Doomsday Lemmings in the beginning of this year, solving 19/21 and not yet beating Apocalypse 5: Garden Of Trauma and 7: Release The Horde! I'll make sure that my solutions are safe here in the forums via attaching them to this post. :P

My initial run of Doomsday Lemmings is here. I think there were only 5 levels per rank back then, whereas  there's 7 levels per rank these days. This is a rare namida NeoLemmix pack that isn't a part of Lemmings Plus series, and thus this little pack has its own topic in the forums. :P

Many of my solutions are similar than in my initial playthrough. The overall difficulty is somewhat high, yes. Pretty sure I again backrouted Apocalypse 3: The Longest Way Home, and I'm not quite sure about Apocalypse 1: Research Center. Outbreak 7: Undead Dipper, Plague 5: Care Package and Apocalypse 4: A Strange Facility were tougher new levels.

NeoLemmix Levels / Re: Lemmings Plus Series
April 01, 2019, 06:41:44 AM
I played a side entry in Lemmings Plus series, Holiday Lemmings Plus, in one evening in the beginning of this year. Again, I don't think I've posted my solutions for these earlier, even though I remember having played this pack and getting stuck in Arctic 4: Miracle Drop few years ago. My solutions for all 12 levels are attached.

Arctic 5: Dream Parade - The hardest level and solved as last, indeed some of the skill assignments are precise, great level nevertheless!
Arctic 6: A World Between Us - Another nice one, maybe a bit open-ended having many solutins.

Heyaa, my solutions for updated levels in v06 except for the Ultimate Quest levels for now. My solution for Brickin' 'eck was the same, but the namida-backroute fix broke my replay so I recorded a new one.

NeoLemmix Levels / Re: Lemmings Plus Series
March 20, 2019, 09:28:14 PM
Alright, the March solution batch isn't entirely complete: I'll post my 63/70 replay solutions from Lemmings Plus Omega II now so they're at least safe here. This is clearly the hardest large namida pack for NeoLemmix, and it's possible that I'll take a look at the remaining levels at a later date, but for now I'm okay just for collecting these solutions.

I was a pre-release tester of this pack, and here's how I played first time after the initial release of the pack.
A speciality of LPOII is an uneven levels per rating distribution with 15/15/20/20 levels across four main ratings.

Levels I didn't solve yet are Coarse 13: Oh No! Space Zombies!, Spiky 17: Brute Force, Sharp 13: It's Zombie Time!, Sharp 14: Death Trap, Sharp 15: A Huge Incon-bee-nience, Sharp 18: Insanity Plea and Sharp 19: Struck Out.

Comments on some of the levels (contain spoilers):

Spoiler
Fluffy 10: Cell Network - It's a puzzle! Asymmetric solution in a symmetric level, oh yeah.

Coarse 5: Tactical Drops - An original and clever no-skill level, and not too frustrating.

Spiky 5: Mushroom Rock Road - I didn't solve this before, quite a solution right there! Probably not the intended one. :P
Spiky 7: Worker Segregation - I didn't solve this before, the key was to realize that a glider survives the drop from left to right.
Spiky 14: Hot Plate - I didn't solve this before, it's great!
Spiky 20: Scenic Route - I didn't solve this before, the time limit is tight, yeah.

Sharp 3: Ground Zero - I had to re-solve this due to radiation objects changing to fire traps, the same luck-relied beginning is there, I changed builder to a platformer at the end.
Sharp 4: Nom Nom Nom - I didn't solve this before. No idea why it took so long from me, the solution wasn't that complex in the end.
Sharp 5: Not Gonna Fly - I didn't solve this before. I didn't like the luck-based grindy timing solution that I found, I suspect there's a different one.
Sharp 6: It's Not Meant To Bee - I didn't solve this before, it's great!
Sharp 8: Roster Shuffle - I didn't solve this before. The beginning has this common mind game: you can let that one lemming die and use builder, which is slower than platformer. Climber-holding pit looks very natural in the starting area.
Sharp 9: Lem 51 - I didn't solve this before, it was a bit pain to execute the timing.
Sharp 10: Sweet Tooth - I had to re-solve this for whatever reason, my solution is pretty much the same than it always was.
Sharp 12: Drawing Dead - I didn't solve this before, the main trick is tremendous.
Sharp 16: The Lemming Mangler - I didn't solve this before. This is a rare level I think I've somehow got spoiled, not sure from where (a YouTube video thumbnail probably).
Sharp 17: Broken Arrow - I didn't solve this before, but got the main details already back then, executed now just a bit more efficiently. Tough timing there.

And there it is! Starting from last September, I've now played all eight large Lemmings Plus packs, and it was tough seven months. I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome so far (733/740 solved), even though there's still 7 remaining levels in the last pack, but I'm happy to have cleared completely all the other entries. :)
