Skill set Challenges
« on: October 04, 2009, 12:15:15 PM »
I've noticed the different skill sets from levels but I feel like cutting the skill sets and placing them to other levels and see how the solution differs. Also, I have a DOS attachment of three different lemmings games, featuring the Original, OhNo and Holiday lemmings just in case you don't know what the skill set is (And yes, I know there's a Lemmings Encyclopedia, which also has a skill set for each level in the solutions, but some of them are different I think).

So let's go! :) Here are the first four challenges from OhNo.

Solve Havoc 3 using the skill set for Havoc 6    0|0|0|1|10|0|10|0

Solve Wicked 18 using the skill set for Crazy 12    0|0|7|4|4|6|0|0

Solve Wild 10 using the skill set for Wicked 6   0|0|40|2|12|0|4|0

Solve Wicked 11 using the skill set for Wild 4    2|2|0|2|8|7|0|2

And here's one for the original
Solve Taxing 2 using the skills for Taxing 1    2|2|2|2|8|2|2|2

I like this idea, but I'm finding it difficult to think of challenges for it. It's probably not ideal when setting challenges is harder than solving them :P (and I guess the Level Design Game suffers from this as well, to an extent).

The trouble is, a lot of levels (original Lemmings especially) have generic skillsets like 20 of each. And others, like Mayhem 3, have been done to death already. Anyway, I'll keep looking.

I would never worry about the Original levels so much. ;) I think OhNo is going to be the best of the three, leaving the tame levels out that's for sure.

Infact I have two more available: :) Using SS from Havoc 18 solve Wild 15; and using SS from Wild 9 solve Havoc 4.

I like this idea, but I'm finding it difficult to think of challenges for it.

I had a fair bit of trouble as well, but I use the random number generator to help myself out. I use two random numbers (As levels): One of them I use to cut the skills off, and the other number is to paste (and replace the current skills) them. I don't usually worry about lemmings, rate or time.

Okay, I just thought of one:

Taxing 11 (The ascending pillar scenario) with the skills from Taxing 24 (Take a running jump). 30 builders and nothing else.

A better idea for this would be custom skill sets not possible without editing the level in most cases.

A couple more interesting ones:

Using SS from Crazy 14 Solve Wicked 4.

Using SS from Wicked 12 solve Wicked 1

Using SS from Crazy 20 solve Wicked 3

Using SS from Crazy 6 solve Crazy 13

Using SS from Crazy 19 solve Havoc 20

Using SS from Havoc 8 solve Havoc 9

Hot challenge: Using skill set from Crazy 8 solve Wicked 10

Bumping this up because I uploaded 5 more challenges.

For my hot pick, the skills from Crazy 8 are:
1 bomber,
4 blockers,
7 builders,
3 bashers,
3 miners,
1 digger.

It's possible to use these skills in Wicked 10 without a glitch ;)

Original
1.name:one two three four five six(all the six's...)
|2|2|2|3|4|4|4|4|
Not that hard...

2.name:Alctraz(the prizon)

Bleurgh. More originality, please.

3.name:Geuss who.?(mind the step)
|0|0|0|0|10|1|1|1|
Did you even try this one...?

Quote
4.name:Hands up in the air(call the bomb squad)
|0|0|5|2|10|0|0|0|
It can be done with well less. Come on, try something that doesn't just reduce the existing skills.

5.name:Build a water slide(its hero time..)
|0|0|1|0|0|1|1|1|
I find it very hard to believe you've found a way to complete that level with just a basher, a miner and a digger... since the level requires 100%, the bomber is an obvious dud.

Quote
6.name:And coming down(going up...)
|0|0|2|2|18|1|1|1|
So basically, the same as before, but (if it's even possible) you have to find a way to not need the floater...

7.name:Next to the Prerrie(turn around young lemmings)
|0|0|0|0|10|2|0|0|
This one is actually pretty good.

Quote
8.name:Charge your batterys(The great lemming caper)
|1|1|1|1|10|2|2|2|
I believe the idea is to make the levels harder, not easier.

Quote
9.name:just a minute AGAIN!(just a minute(part 2))
|2|2|2|2|5|2|2|2|
Same as above.

10.name:rondezvous and the mountain(rondezvous at the mountain)
|2|4|6|8|10|8|6|4|
o_O
I'm pretty sure this one is impossible... if not, this could be quite interesting...

Please actually TRY your challenges before you post them, to make sure:
1) They're not impossible
2) They're not easier than the original (or otherwise extremely easy)
also, please, GROW UP!

Well, those are good points, namida. For the second one I would suggest that the solution is at least different to the intended one.

I have a couple more hot levels here:

Using SS from Wild 13 solve Wild 5.
Using SS from Havoc 18 solve Wicked 15 (I solved it using every skill ;)).

Yes. Take for example his one on The Great Lemming Caper. Make both lemmings build once over the first gap, then both build twice over the second gap. I believe this is how I solved the easier version the very first time I played it.

Giga, I think you'll need to provide proof of the challenges being possible.  To do this, save a Lemmix replay!

I don't think either of those two challenges are possible. However...

tricky 21
1|1|1|1|3|2|1|1|

...this can definitely be done with one more builder.

tricky 21
1|1|1|1|3|2|1|1|

This one's definitely possible. In fact I managed it with a basher (or miner or digger, take your pick) to spare.

As for the other one: did you mean Fun 24? That would make more sense.
