Site Discussion / Introducing the Downloads area
October 20, 2007, 02:17:47 PM
Yes, finally a new feature!  A downloads section!

Currently, all I'm allowing uploaded are CustLemm levels and packs, due to their small size.  I'm not sure how space is on my hosting but I think it's a slight bit tight, so nothing bigger (like Cheapo stuff) will be uploadable until then.  I'm also only allowing .zip and .rar compressed files for now.

Nothing's in the section right now, because it's up to you guys to upload your stuff!  If you've got a level or pack you'd like to upload, just go into the Downloads section and click the little Upload link.  Once it's uploaded, it will be put in an approval queue where it will be checked to make sure it is a valid download.

I hope you enjoy this!  I have time now to work on the site so progress will move at a much faster pace.  I'm still looking for site teamers, though, and with this new download system you will have a use (you can approve/deny downloads)

Site Discussion / Sorry to neglect this so much!
October 02, 2007, 11:07:28 PM
Sure, I said I was going to add all kinds of awesome stuff to here, right?

That was nearly a month and a half ago and I haven't delivered.  Things have been pretty hectic in my personal life, and I only get a few hours of time every week to sit down and relax.  Marching band is quite demanding.  :XD:

Luckily, it's over in about two weeks so I'll be able to start work at that point.  Therefore, things should start showing up in mid-October or nearer to Halloween if for some reason my schedule doesn't clear up.

Also, as I said in the original news posting, if you want to apply for a position to help out with putting together site content, let me know and if I trust you enough I'll set you up to do so.

Thanks for waiting!

Lemmings Main / Oh No! More Lemmings music
September 19, 2007, 03:38:18 PM
People have probably brought this up before, but does anyone else here think that the first music is excellent in comparison to the others, which are all kinda... lame? (And even if you like them, don't you think the first one is a very different style to the others which are all kinda similar?)

I came across this old Amiga demo, Puggs in Space... if you watch that into the main part, the music sounds like the TIM3 song from the original Lemmings game.  However, I looked this demo up and it was released in 1989.  And this is more than just a passing resemblance.  It's nearly exact.

Huh.  Strange it would be used in Lemmings though, seeing as all the other songs were classical music or popular public domain tunes.

Post something good that happened to you today!

For me, I got off my butt and worked on this site!

These are our current rules.  They may be changed at any time, as needed.

  • Stay "PG-13": Keep it all basically family-safe.  Don't talk about anything 18+.  Keep your language relatively acceptable as well.
  • No Inappropriate Images:  Do not post any inappropriate images, like pornography, or overly violent/disgusting images.  Sight of such will result in an INSTANT ban.
  • No Spamming: Posting spam posts just shows that you are stupid.  Don't clog our forums.
  • Don't be Stupid: Speak intelligently.  Don't act like a 5-year-old child.  If you post smileys, do not post a bunch in a row like:  ;D ;D ;D ;D.  We understand that you're happy after seeing the first one.
  • Be Nice: Don't go around insulting people, calling them stupid, etc.  We wish to be friendly to each other.  You CAN criticize people, but do it in a friendly manner.
  • Respect the Staff: We're in charge, not you.

If you are a newcomer to the forum, post in here so we know you've shown up.  Tell us a bit about you!  We'll greet you well.

Site Discussion / Whoa! What happened here!?
August 19, 2007, 11:06:58 PM
Hi guys!
This is the start of a prolonged project I am doing.  Lemmings Forums is going to be turned into a full fledged site eventually, one which is community centered and therefore is far less likely to suffer the fate most other Lemmings fansites have in recent years-- a chronic lack of updates.

As of now, there's nothing to see on the site side, really, but I'll be working to remedy that.  I will need some help, though, because my schedule for the next two or so months looks stressful.  Please let me know (via either PM, or a post in this news topic) if you would like access to the site's backend to help me add content about the games.  If I think you are worthy of working on it, you'll get a special rank and be able to do some more things around the site!

Soon I will be adding other features, like an upload system so you can upload your custom levels, tools, etc to the site. (Nothing of large size, though, because I only have limited space!) I'll also be tweaking the graphics around the site to make it more Lemmingy.

I've also started revitalizing the community to make it more friendly looking.  I've added an official rule set (which, mind-bogglingly, has been absent for more than a year), a welcome topic, and given some boards new names and descriptions.  Hopefully we can be even better!

Help on a new name for the site would be nice.

Hope you're not bothered by this step in a new direction! (If too many people are, though, I will revert back to this being just a forum) Enjoy!

Outdoor Lemmings, 100% saved all the way through. ^_^

(I've also half-way or so completed all of the others, although I forgot to save after doing Beach ;_;)

EDIT: Just for the record, it seems the "linking old posts to users" messed up on this topic. The posts mentioned as being by Mr. K here are actually by namida.

Yup, basically doing like the Lemmings Remake thing except my own one by myself.

So far I have made 60 levels, and am aiming for either 100 or 125 (haven't decided on the final figure yet. Possibly even 150 if I feel like it).

Here is a 15 level demo (three from each difficulty) so far. This uses the Windows version of the game.
**Link removed, see 3rd post for full version link**

Just extract it to a seperate folder, run the game, and if nessecary create a new player name (from under the File menu) which will now have these 15 levels.

Just like in the original, you have to beat each level to progress to the next in the same difficulty. :P

Since I haven't made enough levels in the "Hell" difficulty yet, the first level under it in this demo is one that will probably be appearing under "Cave" in the final release. All others are in the difficulties they most likely will stay in, however the order may change.

Modifications to expect in the final version:
"Chain Reaction" will have 30 builders instead of 20

Levels which most likely intentionally have multiple solutions, for example Tricky 9 "They Just Keep On Coming", shouldn't be counted as backroutes. However, when the intention of multiple solutions is questionable, assume the worst. :P

I'm mostly only aware of backroutes in Lemmings 3D. Ask if you want to know the details of any of them.

Original Lemmings
Tricky 19 - Postcard From Lemmingland
Tricky 25 - Cascade
Tricky 30 - The Crankshaft
Taxing 4 - Lend A Helping Hand
Taxing 6 - Compression Method 1
Taxing 22 - Come On Over To My Place
Mayhem 24 - All Or Nothing (Versions with arrow key support only :P)
Mayhem 29 - Save Me! (I heard you can go to the left at the start... correct me if I'm wrong)

Lemmings 2 - The Tribes
Egyptian 6 - RUPER'Z QUESTLING
Medieval 3 - ALL IN A KNIGHTS WORK!!
Outdoor 5
Shadow 6

Lemmings 3D
Fun 8 - Lemmings Inside
Tricky 25 - Breakout
Tricky 32 - Dot to Dot
Taxing 41 - Spaghetti Junction
Taxing 57 - T Minus Five And Counting (?)
Taxing 59 - Lemmtris
Taxing 60 - Death Slide
Mayhem 63 - Tower of Lemlab
Mayhem 66 - Family Tree
Mayhem 74 - Jelly Belly Islands
Mayhem 78 - Castle Peralus
Mayhem 80 - Final Maze

Lemmings Revolution
Unknown name. Click here for pic showing backroute.

I was just trying to make an easy but fun level right now... and I accidentally ended up making one of the hardest levels I've ever made. (As in, the terrain layout that I put together allowed for it, and I saw the skillset and stats that would acheive it). The original intended hard solution didn't work(was impossible), but by pure accident I found that by simply adding one more miner an even harder one would work, and after about fifty attempts, I finally managed to pull it off successfully.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NL12RZ1P

There's the level itself (in .LVL format), the BMP image of it, and a TXT file with the solution.

The level is designed for and tested in Windows Lemmings, and I actually doubt this one will play correctly or even be possible in the DOS version.

Okay, most levels are impossible to save 100% on on L3D, except the two(IIRC) that require it, and some practice levels. <--- Edit: I have now found two on which it is possible, and acheived this. "Lemmtris"(Taxing 59) and "Castle Peralus"(Mayhem 78). I am fairly certain there are no others.

But still, on some levels, you can get some pretty impressive records. So, if you've got anything rather high, post them here.

Level 32 - "Dot to Dot": Saved 60 of 80 (It may even be possible to save more than this)
Level 33 - "Shadow Maze": Saved 34 of 40
Level 74 - "Jelly Belly Islands": Saved 37 of 40

Lemmings Main / Lemmings 3D Musics
May 17, 2007, 06:01:57 AM
Was wondering, does anyone have an MP3 rip of the CD audio of the lemmings 3D music track from a lot of the practice levels as well as "Garden Maze" in Tricky? (The one I have is corrupted)

Level Design / Windows Lemmings Level Adder
May 12, 2007, 09:36:13 AM
Just wondering, was Garjen's one ever released, or did a better one ever become available?

My younger brother is still into LemEdit, unlike myself.

So he made a level and when he tested it out, it always froze when you scrolled past a certain point, without fail, every time.  We dunno what's wrong with it.  LemEdit's problem checker comes up blank.

Can someone help figure out why it's freezing?
Here's the LVL file.

I remember someone having a more advanced level checker but I can't find it.

Also, anyone else had a problem where Windows Explorer crashes every time you browse to a directory with a DOS file in it?  My brother's computer seems to have started doing that. >_>

General Discussion / Random blab
March 05, 2007, 01:13:40 AM
I feel the need for a topic where we can just talk about whatever randomness comes to mind.  It seems that possibly we don't think we need a whole topic for it so we keep our words to ourselves.

This remedies that problem!  Let's talk about stuff!

To start, I finally ordered the most godly handheld system ever, the GP2X.  I hope that FedEx ships fast, I'm impatient...

Site Discussion / Rather dead, eh?
March 05, 2007, 01:09:06 AM
Yeah, I've noticed the forums are getting a lot less posts than they used to.

So what's up with that?  Something wrong with the forum?  Is Lemmings going dead again?

If there's anything I can do to make the forums better/more user friendly/prettier, let me know.

We need more TALK!

Lemmings Main / DHTML Lemmings
November 22, 2006, 11:28:41 PM
I just remembered this while I was sitting at school in the back of English class with the mobile computer lab hauled in and with nothing left of the assignment to do.  A quick Googling later, I found it and played it in class. =P (btw, link to Mindless's mirror of it.)

Anyway, I thought it was really short and had room for improvement so I wanted to add more levels and such.  So I downloaded the GNU'd code for it, but it lacks all the graphics.  Anyone got them so I could experiment with this thing?

(Screw the legalities, I remember that the WinLem graphics are linked somewhere anyway)

General Discussion / IRC! :D
August 12, 2006, 06:16:45 PM
I dunno if anyone cares, but I'm running an IRC chatroom now and I thought I might open it to you Lemmings Forumers.

*copies from his site*

For you non-techie people, you can start chatting right away by visiting www.ksoftgames.idiotstudios.net/chat/ .  It doesn't require installing anything, though you may have to "Accept" a "PJIRC applet"

If you have an IRC client on your computer that you'd like to use, connect to dragonstorm.sytes.net and the channel #randomness, or, if you've got it set up to handle IRC links, point your browser to irc://dragonstorm.sytes.net/randomness .

Hope you like it.  It's not very active yet, but you can help it!

PS. If you get in using the Java applet I posted, PLEASE use the /nick command (explained on the chat page) to change your username to something other than Anonymous.  I can't get it to ask you first.
