Lemmings Main / Lemmings Touch - New Lemmings game on the way!
« on: September 09, 2013, 11:44:37 PM »
Seems this completely went under the radar.  I just found out about it today!  It's called Lemmings Touch, it's going to be for the PS Vita, and as the name suggests it seems to have a lot of emphasis on touch controls.

Good to see Lemmings is still considered viable enough for them to make a new game  :D  On the other hand, it's for a console that many people haven't bought so it'll be in a similar place to the PSP version.  Also it looks like they're recycling a lot of assets from the PSP version... which might be exactly why it is even able to be made.  But hey, new puzzles!

Lemmings Main / Looking for Lemmings 3 composer information...
« on: May 02, 2013, 03:43:06 PM »
So in an effort to preserve DOS/Adlib music better, I've been working on soundtrack rips of various DOS games to VGM format.  Since Lemmings 1 and ONML were already taken care of, I decided I would do the often overlooked Lemmings 3 (All New World of Lemmings / Lemmings Chronicles).  Anyway, I have a finished rip now, and it's almost ready to go, however I simply cannot find complete information for tagging the tracks-- the last step.

What I've gathered so far is that the original Amiga versions were done by Raymond Usher.  However, I can't find out who did the Adlib conversions, or wrote the intro music (the intro is not present in the Amiga version).  I'm assuming that it is somebody different based on the pattern set by the earlier games.  If there are credits at the end of the game that tell me the answer, I'll never get to them because I suck way too much at this game.  Would anyone happen to know or be able to help me find out?

Site Discussion / Upgrade blues
« on: April 23, 2011, 04:34:26 PM »
Okay... I haven't been around in a really long time so I've been letting Adam run the show.  I'm fine with that.  Schoolwork has hit me so hard this year that I barely touch anything online.

So I just upgraded to the latest version on here, and was met with a painful realization that they stopped updating the classic YaBB (old Lemmings Forums) theme several versions ago and we were still using the older version from something like SMF 2.0 RC1.  Recent updates completely broke the tables on it, unfortunately.

I found this sorta facsimile theme on the SMF themes site but I really don't like how it looks.  The colors are dark and it's difficult to adjust the top logo size and get rid of what will be the unnecessary centered forum title.  Another thing is this has kinda undone a bunch of fixes Adam did, like the clickback logo and the arrow icons for karma...

I am going to see what I can do with it, but I have a feeling we'll need to find a completely new theme.  Sorry guys.  Kinda my fault, I broke it more.

Lemmings Main / Lemmings prototype version?
« on: December 29, 2010, 07:31:57 PM »
I just found this page on a site called "The Cutting Room Floor":  http://tcrf.net/Proto:Lemmings

Apparently it has 5 levels available and minor differences in the required numbers of Lemmings saved.  It seems to be a demo of sorts, probably sent to magazines before the release.

Also, while it doesn't say it directly, I believe it has that loading screen that is shown in The Lemmings Story.  Mike Dailly says there that it was only used on the editor disks, but it is used here.  The article on TCRF actually has a clean screenshot of it!

This is cool, but there doesn't seem to be any information on this demo's origins or anything.  I tried to find a disk image of it to no success.  Anyone else have some information?  Perhaps with a copy of it there is some other interesting unused stuff to be found in the data.

Lemmings Main / PSP Lemmings seems to be getting some support again
« on: November 06, 2009, 11:28:13 PM »
So I got a PSP semi-recently, and I bought Lemmings for it about two weeks ago.  (It's quite good; I'm really enjoying it)

Today I noticed that Lemmings has been added to the PSN store so it can be downloaded to the PSP or PSP Go.  That's a good sign; Sony hasn't forgotten about it!
The bad thing?  Unfortunately I'm guessing online was taken out of this downloadable version or something because I tried to get online with it using my UMD copy with hopes that they'd brought the servers back online, but the servers are still gone just like they have been for a while.  :(  If anyone downloads it, I'd like to know what they did.

Also, there's now a free Lemmings theme that was added a few days ago.  It's a very nice theme-- one of the best I've seen on the PSP.  I don't remember seeing that before, so I guess it was made recently!

Pretty cool to see that Lemmings is being acknowledged again.

Lemmings Main / Lemmings 2 for Master System
« on: August 10, 2009, 05:20:33 AM »
While looking into the Master System I found a list of unreleased games here.  Lemmings 2 is mentioned, which is something I've never heard of before.

A scan of a review is also supplied:

The topic linked above states that it was completely finished but never released, so I was wondering if anyone else had information on this, like if the completed game was ever leaked.  I'm curious how well it could have translated to 8 bits-- the screenshots look pretty close to the original, which would be pretty impressive for the SMS.
Is there any other info out there?

Level Design / Regarding where to upload levels
« on: May 25, 2009, 02:28:07 AM »
The Lemmings File Archive is currently the most popular location to upload Lemmings levels.  If you need a place for your levels, this is a quick and easy solution!

Site Discussion / This place is done for. (Migration time!)
« on: May 25, 2009, 12:41:44 AM »
OK, after months of not being able to regain FTP/MySQL access, nor getting back my subdomain, nor, well, ANYTHING looking like progress in fixing up this site, I basically have given up trying to save this place.  The problems just keep getting worse and worse.  For these reasons, this Lemmings Community is dead in my eyes.  It's not workable.  I'm basically closing it.

However, this isn't the end. There is some extremely good news.

Forumer Adam has provided us with a brand new home.  We have a domain name and dedicated hosting for the forum.  Thanks very much, Adam!

So visit the new Lemmings Forums (I've reverted to the old name, and the "site" bits of this are gone since they were a failure) at:

http://www.lemmingsforums.com

They are brand new, empty forums.  I could not find a way to transfer over the data from here.  You'll need to register again and populate the place back up.
Lemmings Community here will stay open for another week or so in order to let you all finish up any conversations you've been having, before I basically put it into a deep freeze for archival purposes.  The place will be viewable but posting will no longer be possible.  I imagine it'll stay up like that for a good while, but save anything you want to save anyway, and make your way to the new forums as soon as possible.

I hope you enjoy the new place.  It's a much more permanent home and finally has a memorable URL :P

Site Discussion / Welcome to the new Lemmings Forums
« on: May 24, 2009, 10:51:17 PM »
Thanks to the generosity of Lemmings Forums member Adam, the forums have finally gained a real home.  He has supplied a domain name as well as hosting that should not be going anywhere.

Unfortunately, due to the fiasco with the previous hosting, the forums had to be started over.  Since isamedia.org melted I had no access to the FTP or the MySQL database, with no sign of access appearing in the future.  The previous location of the site will be kept up as long as possible as an archive of the last site, so if there's anything interesting, copy it over to here or save it or something.  I'll see if I can procure a database backup to put on this webspace, though.

I've also done away with that silly portal, as I'd intended to actually make a website but never did, and in the end only a few level downloads were put up since there were far better places to upload them.  Now the forums are the main focus just like they used to be.  I've even put up a theme that's just like the forums were before the portal, and even in the original Lemmings Forums from before I took over.

I'm still working on setting up the Lemmings smileys, Lemmings-specific images in the theme, and some other things, but they'll be up soon.

Enjoy!  Everything works again!

Same server, new URL.  ISAmedia.org is a thing of the past, apparently.  Everything's kinda messed up right now.

Really, really sorry about not being able to get a message out until the site came back up.  I'm going to see what I can do to improve things for the future.

UPDATE MARCH 28: We are probably about to jump servers again as everything is moved to more permanent hosting.  I'll send out another mass mail unless this redirects there.

Current status:
Difficulty 1: 13 of 30 levels completed (11 100% optional, 2 100% required, 0 100% impossible)
Difficulty 2: 13 of 30 levels completed (10 100% optional, 1 100% required, 2 100% impossible)
Difficulty 3: 19 of 30 levels completed (8 100% optional, 7 100% required, 4 100% impossible)
Difficulty 4: 16 of 30 levels completed (2 100% optional, 7 100% required, 7 100% impossible)
Total: 61 of 120 levels completed (31 100% optional, 17 100% required, 13 100% impossible)

So far, 18 levels are repeats of previous levels (so, 43 unique levels so far), as well as one that while not identical is very similar. 11 of the exact repeats, as well as the very similar one, are in the highest difficulty ranking.

As usual, a wide variety of difficulties are covered, the hardest level so far possibly being my hardest yet, "No Time To Die" which is the 14th level in Difficulty 4.

For the demo, you can download (along with required style files) here:
http://camanis.net/lemmings/lemmingswelt/index.php?cmd=get&file=cheapo/lp4demo.zip
If you already have the Lemmings Plus 3 style files, you don't need to install any of these new ones as they're identical. (They are not, however, identical to the Lemmings Plus 1/2 style files, in case you missed 3 and don't have the styles from it). Note that this does not contain the full collection of styles, only the ones that are used in demo levels.
The demo has two levels from each difficulty rating.

Lemmings Main / "Sorry" by Buckcherry
« on: September 20, 2008, 08:36:51 PM »
Anyone else think the background music in the chorus of this song kinda resembles the 1st Lemmings music (in DOS version, I mean).

The first time I heard this song I was like, "OMFG. LEMMINGS."

Now it's not so close but it still reminds me of it. :/

There's no way the music could be inspired by the song, since the song is much newer, but the reverse is definately possible. :/

For those who don't know it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOirYmd-890
(Warning: Emo video, although the song's not so bad)

Site Discussion / OK I fixed it.
« on: August 16, 2008, 02:50:09 AM »
_finally_

I was planning to give the site a facelift as well, but unfortunately my free time for the year has come to an end.  Oh well.

UPDATE: Fixed a few more things I noticed were broken, namely smileys and uploaded avatars.  Rejoice!
