Site Discussion / Skin colors irrelevant to Lemmings
March 05, 2015, 07:29:35 AM
I probably should've mentioned this when this new forum started. But anyway...

The colors selected for the skin on the forum as mentioned above is quite irrelevant. It's still quite an interesting and agreeable combination, combining a Slate gray and White gradient in the background with orange icons and text for selected tabs and board links respectively, but for me personally my preference is to replace the Slate gray with Blue and the Orange with Green. (Or vice versa, if you don't want it to look like the 2009 forum. :P)

This feature may be controversial, and thus is probably going to appear in the Look and Layout settings in the Forum Profile; but it'd be interesting to see what it will look like. Thanks.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Sokoban
February 03, 2015, 08:00:24 AM
Anyone a Sokoban fan? I just recently started playing a similar version to that and thought I'd mention about it in a thread.

In this game you basically push boxes into targets, almost like sending lemmings towards their respective home. You cannot push two boxes, you cannot pull them and you cannot move diagonally.

The similar version I was talking about was Sokomind, which has been around since I was a kid. It was the first downloadable game I managed to find that included a level editor. However, the main puzzles are more difficult than those in the original game.

Site Discussion / Unable to lock own thread
January 02, 2015, 07:46:08 AM
Here's something that I'm unable able to do on this forum compared to the previous, lock your own thread. Take this thread for example. This thread reflected on the 2009 forum, but now that the new forum links all the older posts together I don't see any point of editing this. This process is obviously a request that I could easily PM a moderator for.

Here's something I've never seen before in the new forum. Take this board for example. Here it labels Tax-5 as a guest, and I therefore have no way to access it's personal profile.

Fan Corner / Oh No More Lemmings MIDI Music
August 30, 2014, 05:33:21 AM
OK everyone, I suppose it's time to reveal one of my secret talents not-related to Lemmings.

I think I mentioned somewhere in the forum that I am a talented music composer. As well as that I can also play by ear, and have perfect pitch. So here's a proof of what I was able to do.

I've had a lot of free time this week, so as well as doing new challenges I've spent this time period mostly on remaking the Oh No More Lemmings music tracks using a MIDI format. I used Sibelius - my personal favourite music-composing program - to achieve this task, and have completed all six songs. I hope this is OK to upload this collection of songs, provided that it doesn't infringe copyright (Well, at the moment I only know the basics about copyright, so I thought I'd ask). Also, if I do upload them, I don't really know if there's any space where you could play these tunes whilst doing a lemmings level, apart from the old Windows Lemmings, which I know supports MIDI music only.

Interestingly, I decided to change the key of three of the six songs, because I like a bit of variety, not just F# Major (Examples of Pop records with this key being Better in Time/Collide by Leona Lewis and Believe by Cher), which is heard on all but the 3rd and 4th songs. Anyway, here's the download to my remixes. I'm sure you will at least love to hear my MIDI songs!

BTW, I've updated some of my songs. These can be found http://www.lemmingsforums.com/index.php?topic=1058.msg22049#msg22049" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">here.

I know it's strange that someone who isn't into Lix very much is actually asking this question, and also to say that because of this small community we haven't played multiplayer for quite a while, but this is quite a curious question I'm asking. How would you rank yourself in a multiplayer game? This poll may possibly make for a fairer competition - especially if we share the same vote - if we decided to have a multiplayer session in the future.

For me, I'm such an amateur to be honest, even after some experience. There's a lot of things that will go on around you during a level such as where all the Lix are and what skills you have to pick. Without the pause button in play I just can't cope under these situations, unlike some people. That sort of thing just gives me headaches during play.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / MouseCraft released
May 17, 2014, 08:17:36 PM
I just recently typed Lemmings on Bing News and found a game similar to that which is yet to be released but has been recently announced (I hope I'm allowed to talk about pre-released games! http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/undecided.gif" alt=":-\" title="Undecided" class="smiley" />).

The similarity is that this game is more of a cross between Lemmings and Tetris. MouseCraft is the name. It features mice, cheese and some sort of a mad cat scientist as an antagonist. Basically, the mice must navigate their way to the cheese using the Tetris Blocks that are given to you.

Release for this game comes at a 33% discount price until 6 October, so now's the time to get it! It's on the newer PS consoles and also the PC, Mac and Linux. For the creative minds, this game also comes in with a built-in level editor. Should be an interesting new puzzler!

As I mentioned before, it's hard to think of new challenges and easier to expand on others' ideas.
Not sure how much difference this is going to make, but here's the challenge. By adding the 100% requirement, how many levels can still be solved in under one minute?

Some levels do require 100%. We can leave those out while we solve each non-100% level. The box below shows the list of levels where 100% is impossible.

Quote from: List of levels where 100% is impossible
If a level is not on this list, it's possible to achieve 100% on, and thus 100% is the requirement for a solution to qualify in this challenge. If it's on the list, the required % is listed.

I went through the whole challenge thread again on Lemmix and now that we have some better results I've decided to optimise all of the originally impossible levels to make them all possible. I've done this for all three of the lemmings games (and also converted each level to the lvl format suitable for Lemmix use). Before I bring up a download to this big level pack, would you rather play the levels in order of easiest to hardest per rating, or normal order, or maybe even reverse order?!

General Discussion / Hat, Scarf or Gloves?
January 19, 2014, 12:38:31 PM
Because most of us are in the northern hemisphere and the fact that it's winter up here I thought I'd raise this situation. If you only wanted to wear one of these three items for a cold winter's night out which one would you wear (Or otherwise think will be the most useful)? I'd wear gloves, because my hands go cold quicker than my neck and face.

Lemmings Main / Worst Graphics style
January 17, 2014, 06:37:49 AM
After seeing the two graphic style polls, it was clear that Crystal was the winner of Original Lemmings and a tied winner between Brick and Bubble in Oh No.

This time, we are looking for the losing graphic set. I have omitted the winners of the previous poll (Hopefully this won't cause too much controversy). For this poll, you can select three options (although I've tested that you don't have to select three, it's up to you). I've voted for Rock, Dirt and Fire; reasons stated before. I still like the Snow set because of my personal passion for winter, although I'm not surprised that Snow is the new leader at the moment.

Challenges / Fall distance challenge
January 08, 2014, 09:57:25 AM
OK, let's see if this next challenge is as interesting as the others.

For this challenge, you use the default skillset and the default requirements. The only difference is that the lemmings can't fall quite as far as they usually can. I've sent a PM to namida about changing the fall distance to work on Lemmix, and mentioned that 47 pixels would be the proposed new max fall distance, so that most of the levels should still provide a solid challenge. The most notable level that won't work at all will be "We all fall down", so we'll leave that one out and focus on all the others.

Of course, we might need an agreement first before we can get this set up properly. We might even need to lower the height on some of the trapdoors (For example, Wicked 18) to prevent the challenge from being too unfair.

Lemmings Main / Are any levels NOT possible on Lemmini?
January 07, 2014, 06:58:17 PM
The mechanics in Lemmini are obviously different in comparison to Lemmix/DOS. I'm just wondering out of all levels concerned, if the difference of mechanics actually make any of the 220 levels impossible to solve. There's one level (Havoc 8) where the intended method was to use only one builder to build over the gap at the top, but on Lemmini you're forced to use two builders because of the alteration in mechanics.

I was thinking of a potential challenge which involves the fall height mechanic, but the only program I could change to make this idea work was the Lemmini one, which made me want to ask this question.
#94
OK, here's a question if these lemmings from the games existed in the real world. If you were to teach a lemming a skill which one would it be? Obviously not a bomber. http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/tongue.gif" alt=":P" title="Tongue" class="smiley" /> Share your opinions!

If I was high up in a block of flats or a hotel I'd give the lemming a floater skill. If a fire broke out in my room and had no way to get out other than to jump out the window I'd grab my umbrella with my lemming so that we can both float down safely.

Levels for other engines / Time limits level pack
June 27, 2013, 11:56:32 AM
Today I've created a brand new level pack and uploaded it onto the database. I haven't done a pack of fresh new levels onto there since April 2008, but anyway; In this level pack we have 10 levels with short time limits. In all 10 of these levels the time limit has the intention of removing obvious solutions. While it's probably a lot easier to do this sort of thing on Lix (Because you can modify the number of seconds too), I thought that creating a Lemmings level pack would be a good idea. http://lemmings-db.camanis.net/levelpack/ag1zfmxlbW1pbmdzLWRichELEglMZXZlbFBhY2sYytYFDA/" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">Here's the link.

This level pack's particular purpose is to counteract the argument on why we should abandon time limits. I hope you enjoy these levels, and my nice little quote to go along with it: "If you take too long you're doing it wrong!"

Site Discussion / Proposal for challenges board
June 11, 2013, 03:15:09 PM
Wasn't sure where to put this but OK, here's my proposal for most of the challenges in the challenge board.

If any challenge is finished can we mark it on the board? For example, if the minimum skills thread is finished we could mark it with something like: "What is the minimum number of skills needed to beat each level? (Finished!)" Maybe one of our moderators could do that for us, or we can make a list in a separate topic and possibly stick it up. If we get this proposal to work then it will indicate which challenges are complete and which ones still need to be done.

There is an exception. One where the possibilities for a challenge are endless, for example the "Oh No! More Challenges" thread, doesn't necessarily need to be marked as finished.

Site Discussion / Missing downloads
June 09, 2013, 11:08:18 AM
For some reason some of the old downloads in the forum (back in 2009) are missing. That includes some of the replays from some of the older challenges and one of my level pack ideas http://www.lemmingsforums.com/index.php?topic=6.msg6779#msg6779" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">here. Because of that I can't remember what levels I made during this particular time period. http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/tongue.gif" alt=":P" title="Tongue" class="smiley" /> How did this happen? Is there a way to restore some of these old downloads?

Challenges / Minimum skills for one lemming
May 09, 2013, 08:19:02 AM
Throughout the past four years of challenges we have been so creative and imaginative with our different range of challenges that it's been hard to come up with any sort of new challenge. Whilst all these other challenges focus on saving the required or maximum percentage, how about a new idea where we focus on saving one lemming? It should be a quick and easy challenge altogether, so let's see if this sort of idea is an interesting enough idea for everyone. In this case, we'll use the minimum skills challenge, one of the most popular challenges introduced in 2009, when the forum started. http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/smiley.gif" alt=":)" title="Smiley" class="smiley" />

The rules are simple. You treat every skill as equal, and when a lemming comes home, the challenge is over!

We've got a full set of results, and it certainly made a difference compared to the normal requirement (To be exact, about three eighths less). There were plenty of single figures shown on the table which in my opinion makes it look quite neat. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

Note: The asterisk show results without using the nuke. I've posted nuke results under the table.

Lix Main / My new lix graphic set
June 24, 2012, 08:56:28 PM
Here is my new graphic set. The puzzle world pack consists simply of jigsaw puzzle pieces as terrain, which in my opinion has never been seen before in Lemmings or Lix.
But it's not just that, I have also decided to build a new trap to add to the many Lix traps. That probably isn't quite as innovative, as this has been derived from the infamous laser beam but still, it can burn your Lix if they get too close to it. Let's see what you think of this graphic set (Along with the two exclusive levels) and if there are any queries I'd be happy to help.

Edit: I have (hopefully) fixed the problem for both levels.

Mod Edit: Restored attachments.

Levels for other engines / The brick set level pack
November 19, 2011, 06:20:32 PM
So then. It seems like I am starting to use the creative side of my brain more often than solving challenges. (I.e. the right side rather my left side of my brain) http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/tongue.gif" alt=":P" title="Tongue" class="smiley" />

Below this post is a set of levels which are all brick based levels. I have recently seen the poll shown here, and it is now a tied vote between Brick and Bubble. (Still not changing my vote though, which is brick and snow) While bubble looks good, it's quite hard to create a solid challenge, as there were only two of those levels in the Havoc rating and even they aren't as hard as you think. This is primarily because of the whole style lacking any steel objects. This is why I decided to choose brick all the way.

Now, all these levels I have created are designed to fill in the slots of the non-brick based levels. There were 55 slots altogether to fit, and I managed to get a few exciting levels in the pack too. The first several levels are based on a "training ground" that I have created to fit in several different types of two-skill challenges. I hope you enjoy this all-brick set remake!
