Messages - Flopsy

It's been a long while since we've played due to myself taking a step back from arranging the sessions during my house buying process. I'm now settled in and with the summer starting to wind down, it's probably a good time to start playing again. Thanks to Silken Healer for stepping in to arrange a session during my absence  :lix-cool:

Anyway, Simon and I have arrived at a date of Sunday Sept 14th at 5pm UTC (6pm UK time).

Same as usual, we usually voice chat on Mumble client which is free to download. PM Simon for the Lix server info.

Also try to make sure Lix is as up to date as possible as well to help Simon with bug reporting (0.10.31 at the time of writing)

Help & Guides / Re: Help w 450-18

It sounds to me like you're referring to the recent Mobile version of Lemmings, this website deals with the classic versions of Lemmings released in the 1990s which the mobile game is "very loosely" based on. We make custom content using modern Lemmings engines called NeoLemmix and SuperLemmix.

I play the mobile game myself but I am no where near that far into the game. I don't think there is anyone here who would be of much help here as the mobile game is generally disliked on here.

I've tried to stay out of contest participation and discussion but after reading the topic created by WillLem linked above in the first post for the first time. I feel like I need to explain why I stopped participating as my name is mentioned as being one of the people who only reached the top 3 once in the sample of LDC contest podium displays.

:lemming: First of all, it should be pointed out that I only reached the top 3 once and it was in the only design contest I participated in for that period I believe.

:lemming: The contests don't allow collaborative levels. About 50% of levels I create nowadays are collaborations of some sort. I understand that collaboration levels is a big can of worms in itself and allowing them in contests is complicated. But I'm curious, were they ever allowed in contests? And if so, why were they then subsequently not allowed?

:lemming: It seems like the contests don't allow anything made outside of NeoLemmix or Lix. While I'm active in the Lix community, I excel at making multiplayer levels more in that community and my single player efforts are largely non-existent. I did try making contest levels using Lix at one point but then I ended up making them into multiplayer levels instead. Multiplayer levels in Lix are not allowed in contests.
Also, why is superLemmix not allowed in contests? I'm actually working on a project in superLemmix at the moment and anything I make there is automatically non-eligible for contests...?

:lemming: I also backed out of the contests because my levels were not getting played by many people, there seems to be a bias towards voting levels which are made using the classic Lemmings tilesets. I was entering contests with tilesets I had made and it feels like my levels were at a disadvantage at the start for being unfamiliar and as a consequence they weren't being played let alone getting voted for. A few people did play them but they were always the same people, the kind who would bulldoze all the levels in the contest and want a full plethora of replays before posting their results.

:lemming: In the current contest, the whole 1 vote per person across the 4 or 5 levels was too low I thought. I agree that people would just vote for their own level. I would also be in favour of keeping results hidden until the conclusion of the voting round.

I'm just throwing out there my reasons for quitting the contests, I'm not nit picking and I feel like I just wanted this written down here. I'm not an active NeoLemmix solver anymore, I do fire up the contest levels every now and again and see what I can solve. I usually have a bad time and rarely solve many levels. I vote based on which levels I enjoyed trying to solve even if I don't end up getting there.

I've had to move this topic to the board for finished level packs, as you are considering it as a finished level pack from the sound of your post.
Posting it in the NeoLemmix levels forum will increase the chance of your pack being played :)

Of course you are welcome to post another Development topic for any further levels you decide to add to the pack in the future :)

General Discussion / Re: General Comings and Goings
June 14, 2025, 04:14:31 PM
Further to my previous message in February, I'm happy to announce that my house purchase will complete on Friday 20th June, I'll most likely be without internet for a period of time after this date.

But once I return, I can resume with arranging Lix sessions.

I'll also most likely be upgrading my computer hardware in the coming months too :)

I've played this entry too, but like you said the earlier levels were very boring so I didn't make it far in the game.

I would like to get back into the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series as a whole.

I'd also be interested in receiving a free steam key if possible :)

Lemmings Main / Re: The Lemmings The Ports Book
March 15, 2025, 05:44:05 PM
It's been a while since I've read this topic properly and I just noticed that jaycee had said that only 50 copies of the book were ever sold on the original run years back.
I own one of those 50 copies, I think it's a gloss cover and not a matte one.

It's nice to see that the PDF version is still being sold at a reduced price of £3 (it was £10 years ago). Yes there are some people who can send a copy of the PDF but I think it's also nice to support the creator of the book

I highly recommend that if you can, you download this book because it is like a Lemmings fan's "bible" so to speak! I remember bringing this book to the 2023 Leeds forums meetup and it was a big hit

Owning the book definitely has its advantages as opposed to the PDF, I definitely do not regret paying £35 for this book back in the day.

Congratulations to the top 3, especially Arty's level, that is one of the best levels I've played in a contest in a long time! Very fun to solve!

General Discussion / Re: General Comings and Goings

I've officially entered the house buying process now after house hunting since the start of the year.

My activity on the forums will be very low for the next few months most likely and will probably be a little longer until I get settled into my new dwelling.

Someone else should continue to arrange the Lix sessions for the time being like the one arranged about a week back.

I look forward to moving into an actual house after having my living situation in limbo for 10 years.

I've recorded the session while watching the stream back so no need to send me anything.

I'll upload it to Youtube when I get time to :)

There is no need for Simon to archive the recordings Silken because usually one of us gets it uploaded to Youtube one way or another

I should be able to play for the first hour. Brought my laptop to work with me

Well looks like it will be on 26th Jan. I won't be able to make it sadly. Have fun everyone and hopefully Simon will stream so I can watch the upload

Lix Main / Re: Flopsy level release request

I'm very busy at the moment with SuperLemmix projects. I'll try and find some time over the holidays to look at my Lix multiplayer levels.
The Mr Bean level still needs editing and testing once more in multiplayer before it's ready for release, I'm not happy with the way Lixes get stuck in the pillars.

Welcome to the community Barahir and thanks for trying Lix  :lix-cool:

If the multiplayer aspect of Lix is of any interest to you, we do have multiplayer sessions about once a month on average (there won't be a session this month though due to the festivities).

As Simon has said, it is best to experience the multiplayer with 1 other person first since it can take a bit of getting used to. We have an IRC channel where someone might be willing to play if you join and message the channel.

Quakenet IRC
(Just type your username and put #lix as the channel)

The next larger multiplayer session will most likely be sometime in January, there's usually 5-6 people there average (me and Simon are usually there!) and we play for about 2-3 hours playing various different maps. Anyone is welcome to join these sessions  :lix-evil:

I have also written a text guide to the Lix multiplayer with illustrations if you are interested in the multiplayer strategy theory. It has helped some people improve at the game recently from what I have seen since it was published  :lix-smile:
