After a long time of chess programming I decided to go back to the lemmings.
It will take some time, but here are the core ideas of the upcoming Lemmix:

1. It will use the original mechanics, or very close to it.
2. Levels will be pseudo-randomly generated. (User can optionally decide on a number parameters of the level like density, style, size, platforms etc.)
3. A certain code will always lead to the exact same level.
4. There can be a certain amount of "Rogue Lemmings" which decide to do something on their own (like digging, building, climbing etc.) based on a quite low IQ.
5. There can be a certain amount of "Free Lemmings" which can be spawned by the user in mid air.

So there will be an infinite amount of levels available, reproducable for sharing.

The levelgenerator is still in its early stage. It is not very easy to produce something graphically acceptable / attractive.
I have not decided about all the details, the how and what on the above ideas.

I just want to let it know here :)
Ideas welcome of course.

Best Regards,
Eric

Oh! No reaction :)
Anyway... The results are quite incredible. Gameplay is nice and the levels look absolutely insane.

Mindless

You'll probably get more of a reaction if you show something.

By the levels looking "insane" do you mean they look like they were created by an insane person?  That's what I expect to see for auto-generated levels...

I will be very impressed if you built something that generates levels with genuinely good, novel puzzles.

Rogue Lemmings is a novel idea. Do they eat from the available skillset or are their actions free of cost?

EricLang

Rogue lemmings (currently) do not use a skill. But the skill has not to be zero.
I'll show a few images soon, when I have my github in order again.
Indeed I was surprised to see that the levels actually are fun to play. They are quite challenging sometimes.
The rogue lemmings are also very funny and a good addition. Their mechanics still have to be finished.
There are a *lot* of usersettings as well, which can be random or set to low/medium/high.

style
size
floors
difficulty
time
lemmings
rescue
rogues
angel
entrances
exits
releaserate
traps
obstacles
gaps
density
decoration
steel
diversity
rocky
orthogonality
symmetry
stylemix
bias

It will still take at least 2 months before I release an alpha version.

WillLem

Sounds cool! How do Rogue Lems interact with the replay system? Are their actions recorded and played back or are they always random?
