In Development / The Lemmings Strike Back! - Fangame
November 19, 2009, 04:52:51 AM
I need to hog all 160 level slots for a change.   http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/tongue.gif" alt=":P" title="Tongue" class="smiley" />
Anyways, so, I'm making a fangame called The Lemmings Strike Back! (I figured that name was better than "Dullstar Lemmings.")  I'll release some demo packs here so people can review the levels, and also, I must stress, this is my own fangame, just a bunch of new levels.  If you have a level to submit, PLEASE submit it to the Epic Lemmings Fangame, which was my idea, but it's a community project.

Lix Levels / L++ Levels

The new Cheapo Copycat Lemmings.  http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" class="smiley" />
Simon, you have fulfilled the wish at last.

Post your levels here!
#63
Whew, hard to come up with a good topic name for this one.  Say every level gave you 8 of each skill.  Now, out of these 64 skills available, you can only use 8.  How many levels can you solve, with how many of each skill?
Now you get unlimited skills! Let's try to find all the possible combos of different skills, with the smallest numbers for each.!

Just Dig/Ozone friendly lemmings (works for both):
     1 basher
     1 digger
     1 miner
     4 bombers

Site Discussion / A helpful note about the Spoiler Code
October 28, 2009, 09:46:19 PM
The most commonly used spoiler code is
Code: [Select]
Quote from: Spoiler:  Highlight to read
Note that the List code
Code: [Select]

  •
  •
doesn't work with this spoiler code.  I do not know about the other colour codes, but I imagine it is the same thing there.

Also, an easy way to remember that code:  "deetef" (add in # and change t to 7).  Before someone suggested this, I could never remember what the code was.

Level Design / Genesis styled levels, DOS?
October 25, 2009, 10:34:21 PM
Now that we have the Genesis groundx stuff, all we need now is a hacked lemmings, preferably LEMRMAKE (attached) and LemEdit to use the Genesis level size.  If we could do this, it would be...  AWESOME.

EDIT:  Forgot to attach it.  Never mind that, if anyone is willing to do this, but doesn't have LEMRMAKE, I shall attach it later.

Level Design / Lemmix Playtesting Finally works in WINE
October 23, 2009, 07:54:07 PM
I did a fresh install (because it's reccomended to do that as opposed to upgrade) of the Ubuntu 9.10 beta, and I can finally playtest my levels in WINE!  The pointer displays oddly, but it's usable now.

NEOCHROME LEMMINGS
Quote from: DragonsLover
When we got the Atari ST (it's been a while), we also got Neochrome, a powerful painting program. My brother David and I had made some kind of "Lemmings" levels. My brother kept the classical Lemmings, but I created new little characters called : "Petits bonhommes blancs" (Little white sticks). I found back the floppy disks which contained those pictures and I want to show them to you. Here are they :

Those of David :

And mines :

About some pictures

Second picture of David :
It is written at the top "Welcome to Lemmings 2". At that time, the REAL Lemmings 2 wasn't out yet. Tongue

First picture of mine : Translation
LITTLE WHITE STICKS
Little White Sticks are twins of Lemmings. They're doing the same skills than them (on the left). In the next levels, some may have a X. This means that the whole landscape is undiggable. The colors where LWS die are (red, green, blue) depending of the landscape.

Splatting distance limit is 50 pixels. There are 7 steps for each stairs. Trapdoor : 24 X 14. Sky : 16 X 5. End : Anything.

(As for the skills on the left, they're quite recognisable excepted maybe the last 3 ones. Those are : SPLATTER, WALKER and EXITTER Tongue).

Last picture of mine
This one isn't finished, as you can see.

That's all! Hope you like them! laugh

Any questions?

I'll try later to get those images back, but in the meantime,

TUNDRIZE! (LEVEL CONVERTER FOR TUNDRA)
Quote from: kyevan
I've been working on a little project the last few days, and It's ready to be shown to the world:
 thumbsup Tundrize!  thumbsup
(Is that styling evidence that I've been online too long? Perhaps.)
Available on Lemmings File Portal at http://it.travisbsd.org/lemmings/lemmingswelt/index.php?cmd=get&file=/TundrizeV0-1.7z" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">http://it.travisbsd.org/lemmings/lemmingswelt/index.php?cmd=get&file=/TundrizeV0-1.7z, Tundrize is a tool to convert lemmings levels to the format used by Tundra! It needs a configuration file for each level pack, but the format is simple enough that you should be able to figure it out... but if I'm wrong, just ask, and I'll write more thorough documentation.

Also included in that package are the data files to Covox and Companion along with tundrize.py files for them. (Not all levels work, though, see the readme file.) Also included is the file for 'Going Their Separate Ways' and a tundrize file for that. (I wrote it while testing .lvl compatability, and figured I might as well include it)

NOTE: This isn't the main topic, I just posted it here because it IS a fan creation. Go to the Main Forum to discuss

The styling he/she mentioned isn't present in this quote, sorry.

Fan Corner / Lemmings 3 Remake
October 18, 2009, 07:58:46 PM
I thought of making a remake of Lemmings 3 after seeing a YouTube video.
Because of its storyline, we should add the other 9 tribes in, in my opinion.  Plus, entirely new levels for the existing three tribes.  What do you think?
#73
I saw this in another topic, so let's see what people think.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Game Projects
October 14, 2009, 10:26:17 PM
This has nothing to do with the code needed to make a game, so preferably no discussion about that here.  But if you're making your own game, you can post it here.

You can also share advice here, and answer questions about the process (although ones that aren't related to how to program something, please.  Use Programming Code Needed to Make Game?  for those questions.)  Something that I read in another topic is that you would probably want to make your own level editor as a way to edit maps/levels in your games.

I have a plan worked out.  On my game projects, I'm going to make one map editor that can be used to edit the maps for any of my projects.  Although I might not implement play testing unless requested by popular demand, as I would like to program it to work with two very different styles of games (yes, I plan to release the editor to the public).  Eventually, but not certainly, it might become advanced enough to be used to generate a multiplatform game with no programming experience required (except by me), but I guess that's a little ambitious for someone who's still learning how to program.
What're you thoughts about this idea?

I shall also do something that I'm sure a lot of us might be wishing for - a Cheapo rivival.  After gaining experience, I shall do my best to remake Cheapo by making a cross platform version.  However, support for the original Cheapo formats might take a while.
My new format might like a little like this:
The level will contain:
Music
Map
Stats
Sprites
all with the editor, so you don't have to go through too many hassles.

October 11, 2009, 11:47:29 PM
I think giga had a good idea, but the whole poll ruined things.  So same concept, without the poll.

Since there are way more than 100 levels, I'm going to say this:  Hunt the Nessy is probably the lowest one, like, off the charts of unpopularity.
Hmm...

My list:

100.  Poles Apart - Nice level, but annoying to pull off sometimes
099.  Rendezvous at the Mountain - Are the developers serious?  This is an okay level, but too much building, and way to easy for a last level.
098 and 097:  XMAS 91 levels - okayish, but not great.
096 and 095:  XMAS 92 levels 3-4 - Long, drawn out, XMAS 91 concepts!
094:  Many lemmings make level work - Bomber timing.  Annoying.
093:  Dolly Dimple - Nice idea, but what's with the 99 release rate?  Nothing against the level, but it's placed poorly.
092:  Bomboozle - Bomber timing, and prioritizing issues.
091:  Natural Selection - Has potenial, but is lacking in skill selection.  Nethertheless, it's fun to use the skills that knock the lemmings flying all around!  http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/laugh.gif" alt=":D" title="Laugh" class="smiley" />

After a while, I will put up a poll after we determine which ones will fall in the top ten.

Yeah, there don't seem to be any good .mod trackers for Linux.  I'm getting a little sick of loading up ModPlug in WINE all the time, so... I would like to go about writing my own.  The only problem is, the documentation of the .mod format is so poorly written, I might as well go in and crack it myself.  How would this be done?

Yeah, I currently don't have the programming experience, but we'll worry about that later.

Basically, discussion about avatars.

I decided to make a desktop cube for an avatar on a different forum, and then I ran into the "Squirrelizer."  It wouldn't work, though, but I got the squirrel added in manually.

Level Design / Lemmings 2 Cheapo Styles?
October 04, 2009, 05:38:33 PM
I have cheapo styles for Shadow, Circus, and Beach.  Could others be made?  If so, send me some important files.  I'll take care of the music part, since I think I remember how to do it.  Plus, my Cheapo levels use the hack of the game that allows .mod files to be used.  If needed, I'll upload that once I upload my Cheapo Levels.

This would be useful, because I find LemEdit to be a little weird to use.  I like Lemmix better.  After all, due to Linux's WINE, I can do everything with it I can do with LemEdit with a better interface.  So what's the default screenstart in LemEdit?  It would make nicely centered levels so much easier.
