Here are the results, generated by an Excel spreadsheet plus a python script for formatting, plus additional commentary:
1. Name a country which has similar climate all-year round!
Kenya (1.00 points) - Simon, Akseli, Clam
Panama (0.67 points) - ccx, Nepster
Ecuador (0.67 points) - geoo, NaOH
Mexico (0.33 points) - Ramon
Greenland (0.33 points) - Timballisto
Brazil (0.33 points) - RubiX
Australia (0.33 points) - namida
Kenya (because geoo)
This one had quite an obvious answer in hindsight, which I ironically missed.
2. Name a colour that you often see in daily life!
green (1.00 points) - geoo, NaOH, namida, Nepster, Ramon, Timballisto
blue (0.50 points) - RubiX, ccx, Clam
white (0.33 points) - Simon, Akseli
Blue (because sky)
white (tabletop, console/terminal background, teacup, paper)
It seems that 6 players' hacker consoles have green text on black background, as it's supposed to be, stereotypically.
3. Name a utensil useful for beating somebody up!
baseball bat (1.00 points) - Simon, geoo, Ramon
knife (0.67 points) - ccx, Timballisto
bat (0.67 points) - Akseli, Nepster
rolling pin (0.33 points) - RubiX
ladle (0.33 points) - Clam
glass bottle (0.33 points) - namida
club (0.33 points) - NaOH
Ladle (because in-jokes)
knife? [ugh, I squirm just typing out such an answer... ]
So would I at the thought of using the blunt side of a knife to bludgeon somebody...I think knifes are more suitable for stabbing.
4. If you wanted a robotic upgrade for one of your body parts, which part would you choose?
hand (1.00 points) - Simon, Akseli, Nepster
eye (0.67 points) - NaOH, namida
brain (0.67 points) - Clam, Timballisto
arm (0.67 points) - geoo, ccx
penis (0.33 points) - RubiX
leg (0.33 points) - Ramon
arm [though I think in reality I'd rather be Iron Man and goes with a robotic suit, instead of replacing my perfectly good body parts]
That sounds like a very sensible idea, especially at the prospect of some of the suggested replacements which seem more like downgrades...
5. Name a famous non-fictional robot!
Asimo (1.00 points) - Akseli, Clam, Timballisto
Curiosity [Mars Rover] (0.67 points) - geoo, Nepster
|Lovely| (0.33 points) - Simon
roomba (0.33 points) - ccx
robbie the robot (0.33 points) - RubiX
none (0.33 points) - Ramon
deep blue (0.33 points) - namida
Shakey (0.33 points) - NaOH
Quite a few creative answers in the low-scoring range here. I especially like the Roomba, probably the most useful of the bunch (next to maybe |Lovely|).
6. Name a famous fictional robot!
R2D2 (1.00 points) - Akseli, ccx, Clam, Nepster, Ramon, Timballisto
Wall-E (0.33 points) - geoo, NaOH
kryten (0.17 points) - RubiX
Marvin the Paranoid Android (0.17 points) - namida
Bender [Futurama] (0.17 points) - Simon
This one had a clear winner, probably not too surprisingly (I went with Wall-E due to being more recent). Marvin could maybe compose some lullabies for NaOH...
7. Robot dance club
These are everyone's instructions (a few people initially indexed their rows from 1 instead of 0
):
geoo,0,1,LDURL
Simn,1,1,RDLUR
NaOH,1,3,UDUDU
Akse,3,1,RUDLU
Timb,2,3,UDUDU
Neps,2,2,UDUDU
RubX,3,0,URDLU
ccx ,3,2,RLLRU
nami,0,2,RDRUU
Ramn,0,2,DUDUD
Clam,2,0,DRUUU
And this is what comes out of it:
Start:
[ ] [geoo] [na/Ra] [ ]
[ ] [Simn] [ ] [NaOH]
[Clam] [ ] [Neps] [Timb]
[RubX] [Akse] [ccx ] [ ]
After 1st move:
[geoo] [ ] [ ] [NaOH]
[ ] [ ] [Si/Ne] [Timb]
[RubX] [ ] [ ] [ ]
[Clam] [ ] [Akse] [ccx ]
After 2nd move:
[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]
[geoo] [ ] [ ] [NaOH]
[ ] [RubX] [Akse] [Timb]
[ ] [Clam] [ccx ] [ ]
After 3rd move:
[geoo] [ ] [ ] [NaOH]
[ ] [ ] [ ] [Timb]
[ ] [Clam] [ ] [ ]
[ ] [Ru/cc] [Akse] [ ]
After 4th move:
[ ] [geoo] [ ] [ ]
[ ] [Clam] [ ] [NaOH]
[ ] [ ] [ ] [Timb]
[ ] [Akse] [ ] [ ]
After 5th move:
[geoo] [Clam] [ ] [NaOH]
[ ] [ ] [ ] [Timb]
[ ] [Akse] [ ] [ ]
[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]
NaOH and Timballisto perform Tango the whole time, while namida bumps into Ramon right at the start.
Yes, this is exactly the example backwards.
Clam instead starts right where the example starts which seems to be a better strategy here. Simon and Nepster move around the dangerous center and have to pay for it, crashing into each other right after the first move. A bit later RubiX crashes into ccexplore.
1.00 points - geoo, Akseli, NaOH, Clam, Timballisto
0.40 points - RubiX, ccx
0.00 points - Simon, namida, Nepster, Ramon
8. How many robots will survive until the end? (1 point for correct answer, 0.5 points for being one off.)
5 (1.00 points) - namida, Nepster
4 (0.50 points) - geoo, NaOH
3 (0.00 points) - Simon, Akseli, RubiX, Clam, Timballisto
2 (0.00 points) - Ramon
1 (0.00 points) - ccx
The correct answer was 5, as we can easily see above. Nobody guessed higher than that. It seems that secretly people hoped for more crashes. It'd be interesting to analyze how much the initial number of players affects the expected number of survivors, anybody want to have some fun with Markov chains?
9. How many robots will survive until the end? (Feud Scoring)
0 (1.00 points) - Akseli, namida, ccx, Clam, Ramon
4 (0.40 points) - NaOH, Nepster
3 (0.40 points) - RubiX, Timballisto
2 (0.20 points) - geoo
1 (0.20 points) - Simon
The obvious feud answer when it's about numbers is 0.
Those people who were a bit more serious about this question collectively estimated that people would guess lower than they actually did. Nobody guessed a higher number in Q9 than in Q8.
These are the final results, out of possible 9 points (nobody got close to the perfect score even though it seems like an easy round):
1. Akseli (7.00)
2. Clam (6.50)
3. Nepster (6.40)
4. Timballisto (6.07)
5. geoo (6.03)
6. NaOH (5.23)
6. ccx (5.23)
8. Ramon (5.00)
9. namida (4.83)
10. Simon (4.03)
11. RubiX (2.80)
Congrats to Akseli who won 3 times last year and seems to be off to a good start again!
Finally, attached is a spreadsheet with the results. When converted to a .csv (after everything has been entered), you can apply the attached python script to get a post template that saves a lot of typing work. Also attached the python script for Question 7 in case people want to analyze what could have been...
