I'd like to schedule another lix multiplayer session, best time for me is this Sunday starting around 10:00 my time (2:00 PM GMT)

The next best time for me is Thursday, Sep 28, around 7:00 PM (11:00PM GMT)

http://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/

I can try to make other times too but these are best for me, for using mumble. Feel free to make other suggestions. Scheduling farther ahead if kind of useless to me, but these times are ideal for me always.

NeoLemmix Main / Brouhaha about Buttons [new feature]
« on: September 16, 2017, 12:28:23 AM »
I (as at least a few other people) enjoy the locked exits feature. But I feel it has a couple of problems and in the future if the time/ability arises to add new features; I’d like to expand on this feature. I think it can go in many directions.

First of all; the way the graphics and trigger areas are set up for the unlock buttons is kind of weird imo. In some of the sets; in order for the button to work; you need to bury it almost underground so that once pressed its no longer visible. Maybe not a big issue but doesn’t look aesthetically nice imo. I’d prefer they be visible at all times.
Maybe a redesign of how they look/operate could be done. I need to think about it more.

Buttons could do more things than just unlock exists. They could; [some loose ideas that would need much more thought/exploring]

-“re-lock” exits.
-activate or deactivate any trap, exit or entrance. Any object basically. [teleporters, updrafts]
-Turn around one-way walls! [swap directions]
-draining water objects [using the “rising water gimmick” in reverse, to basically get rid of (or create) a water trap. Lem Revolution has this (they’re called “pools”, got quite a bit of use in that game.) This sounds simple at first but is quite a bit more complicated than anything else. But maybe something to think about down the road.

Issues/thoughts
-This whole set up would require two things:
-some form of indicating what is connected to what [see below]
-a likewise (and hopefully not-as-complicated-as-possible) system in the editor for creating these)
-constant animating traps; which can indicate whether an object is turned off or not. (if the object stop animating; you know it’s off/inactive)
-Operating entrances might be more tricky/not worth it.

ideas for labeling:
-Have a light or symbol above or below or somewhere near the button; this same symbol should appear above a locked exit. This symbol/light could even blink (for a brief period) when activated. Light might look pretty. But symbols can be more diverse. I’m thinking of the symbols used in exactly this fashion from Portal 2. They’re simple; triangles, squares, circles etc.
-Another option (which I’m sort of getting from Chips challenge 2) is “wires”. Lines which connect everything. This may make it very obvious what is connected to what but might get ugly.

---more ideas------

Split buttons into two types: buttons and switches. Buttons work pretty much the way they currently do; can be pressed by a lemming walking over it,* and only once. Once pressed they cannot be pressed again.

Switches; on the other hand can be pressed again and again (to reverse their effects). Now there’s another further sub divisions that this could go into;

Again, taking from Revolution; switches (which look like levers pointing either right or left) can only be flipped by lemmings walking in said directions. Once flipped they must be hit by a lemming walking the opposite direction to be flipped/activated again. Etc and so-forth.
I’ll say this was put to so-so use in Revoltuion. All too often I think it was pretty easy to pretty much get  a switch flipped from any direction. I don’t recall super clever use of directional switches; but I can think of ways in which it could be put to very good use

------------

Why do I like this kind of idea so much (versus new skills?) First of all; excluding the rising water and more complicated parts) I suspect less glitches from this kind of thing. Also I feel this type of new feature would be easier to learn/adjust to.

--------
Can fallers/splatters press a button? I’ve never tested this. I think they shouldn’t for consistency sake.

Fan Corner / music by Minim and mobius
« on: September 12, 2017, 10:04:08 PM »
me and Minim collaborated to make 5 songs originally intended for use with Lix or NeoLemmix but since both parties stated they couldn't/didn't want it; I'm uploading it here for your personal use/enjoyment.

Minim did most of the work; I merely provided some ideas. Downloadable in MIDI or mp3 format. I can make other formats if requested.

Closed / [bug/sug.] Hold to Scroll is slippery

Hold to Scroll: this topic was locked so I'm pointing to it here:

http://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=3282.msg64216#msg64216

I agree with Simon's post; while the edge scrolling is improved; I never use this and the hold-to-scroll feature feels slippery and needs improvement. I want it to feel just like Lix's scroll. With Lix I always use hold to scroll and find it has much better subtle control than edge scrolling.

NeoLemmix Styles / Backgrounds for original styles
« on: September 10, 2017, 01:15:36 PM »
Here is where (when finished) I will upload all of the original 8 tilesets with custom made backgrounds. Right now all I have is crystal marble and pillar. Back-up your styles before you replace these. Go into NeoLemmix/styles and replace the crystal.. etc with these respective files.

I made these by making a level (320x~600+) taking a screenshot then shrinking it, darkening and blurring the image. I made these a long time ago and haven't gotten around to making the rest yet. If anyone wants to contribute you certainty may.

[note: these are the old formats]

General Discussion / Dreams
« on: July 10, 2017, 12:59:30 AM »
Had a crazy/funny/scary dream? Post about it!

I like to discuss dreams. Most people don’t remember their dreams or remember them too well. It helps you to remember them if you talk about them or write them down, especially immediately or soon after the night you have one.  I like to get inspired by them.

There are old ones I might post in here later. For now here’s the most recent one I recall:

In the first part, I’m in a house I own or live with someone else but not my current real one. A black haired girl comes inside asking for Rachel but I say she’s not here. So she asks to come in anyway and I say yes.  She starts talking and rambles on and on but I can’t understand everything she’s saying. Then she keeps saying she’s very stressed, over and over. So I walk over and message her neck.
[there was more to this part but it's a bit hazy and I'll leave it out because it's not family friendly ;) ]
Next I’m in a very large space. It’s like some kind of underground building. The walls are dark brown and orange and they’re soft and rounded. The floor is also uneven. There are lots of people walking about, in a hurry. Some people are dressed in military uniforms. Someone is talking to me and pointing to a hut like building on a small hill. I go over there. There’s a door to the small building but its pitch black inside. I go inside and I can’t remember what happens inside, but I eventually come back out and realize I’m in the wrong place and I need to get to another place, very fast. People start running around and shouting. Everything starts shaking.
Next I’m in another part of this place, the walls are the same color but it’s a huge, very tall cylindrical room. At the bottom is lava and red light glowing up and lighting the walls. I see poles that go below and people are with me. I know I need to got down but I’m afraid.

General Discussion / You know whats BS? [RANT]
« on: June 15, 2017, 09:21:47 PM »
We all get annoyed by things and get angry from time to time. Use this thread to blow off some steam when you need to.

I fricking got home today to realize my brother updated my PC to Windows 10, without asking me at all. I'm so pissed now, I'd like to kill him.

I don't want this bullshit. I liked windows 7. After 5~10 years I finally got used to it and came to like it quite a bit. Sure it had flaws, many of which I found ways around, but overall it wasn't too bad. The main point is adjusting to something. You can adjust to anything it just takes time. Time Which I DON'T FREAKING HAVE RIGHT NOW! This is pure bullshit and I'd like to start nuclear wars with many countries.

I don't like windows 10, it's very different, it's not suited to my needs. This is bullshit, it's not fair. Maybe this is really only just one in a long list of signs that was telling me what I should be doing.

Site Discussion / log in sends to previous screen
« on: June 11, 2017, 01:39:53 PM »
I seem to think this happens to me on other sites as well so it might be a larger problem but anyway;

sometimes, when I'm on a thread, (not on the main page) and I'm logged out, when I log in from there, instead of putting me right where I was, I get sent to the previous thread I was on. So I always must navigate back to where I was, this is annoying.

Closed / [BUG] weird typing glitch then crash
« on: June 11, 2017, 01:36:27 PM »
-I apologize I didn't remember to check what version I was using. Not even sure if it was a stable or the experimental.- ...making this difficult to trace. It has only happened once. It *may* have happened a long time ago, or something similar but if I'm remembering half correctly it was so long who knows. Right now it seems to be a rare thing. I definitely be more studious if it happens again.

I was using NL for a while, I had opened and closed several levels (I was checking my own levels and fixing things) then, all of a sudden I tried typing in the author field and my key strokes came up as weird symbols and I couldn't backspace.
Then an error message popped up, unfortunately I clicked away too fast and don't remember it but NL then crashed and I got too more errors;

access violation at address 00480C05 in module 'NL.exe'...

read of address 000003C8

Exception EAcessViolation ... at 000AB3B0
...
00000178

I have no idea what could've caused this and I've tried replicating it again by doing what I was doing but it hasn't worked.
All I was doing at the time was I opened a rock level, changed some one way arrows to another color then attempted to write my name in the author field.

Closed / [BUG][PLAYER] crash after close
« on: May 29, 2017, 03:34:16 PM »
if you close NL by Alt-f4 during a level the program closes but you get an error message:

"exception EAcessViolation in module NeoLemmix.exe at 000F8023
Read of address 00688168"

I just downloaded the latest version (...18) but I noticed this for several versions now (kept forgetting about it).

Closed / [sugg] scroll with button instead of edge of screen
« on: May 08, 2017, 10:09:56 PM »
I don't like scrolling at the edge of the screen. It's especially annoying on vertical levels because you accidentally scroll every time you go the bar to press a button. But I've always found it annoying when for example you want to do something sort of near the edge of the screen; you accidentally scroll then lose what you were trying to do.

I'd prefer the option [like Lix has] to use a (assignable) button instead. Holding right mouse button then moving mouse scrolls. This can be used in conjunction with having your right mouse be used as something else also [like selecting walkers as I do] and won't conflict because you're not left clicking.

NeoLemmix Main / Add L2 skills to NeoLemmix? [DISCUSSION]
« on: May 06, 2017, 02:19:25 PM »
So I've argued in the past that I don't want new skills or would rather focus on other matters of the game. But now after seeing/playing L2 a little bit I think I changed my mind.

I welcome any new skill ideas that come and have my own suggestions to offer; (with the stipulation that I hope we keep the max-8-skills-per level. I really like this set-up and think having more than 8 is too much).

jumper and runner If any new skills are added any time soon I'd like these best of all as priority. Lix has both these and I think they have already been demonstrated to be used to great effect. Geoo commented that they decided not to adopt L2's runner jumping forward a little bit off of edges because it was annoying. I'd like more explanation on that. At first glance I like L2's behavior.

I suggest the idea that runners do EVERYTHING faster; including bash, build etc. Essentially a runner becomes a lemming with the speed toggle on all the time. [except falling/floating for "physical or realistic" reasons]. In Lix running jumpers go farther; I like this.

shimmier (ceiling climber) - I kind of like how this is a non-permanant skill in L2; but arguments could be made both ways; being more like the climber skill, so that the lemming always shimmies when encountering a ceiling, or just single use as in L2. If it is single use; I think the whole "jumping" animation [which happens regardless of if there is a ceiling there or not] should not be adopted as in L2 which allows for problems*

sand pourer/glue pourer/ filler - after learning more about these in L2 I really like the idea of them. I'd like to think how we could tweak these to be even more interesting. At first I thought having more than one "pourer" skill was redundant but they all have different uses which can be interesting in different ways.

lazar blaster
Haven't experimented with this skill much yet in L2 but it sounds interesting.

magno-boots
I like the idea of this being a permanent skill which allows the lemming to walk on any surface and never fall.

*allowing you to use this skill for other things which it arguably shouldn't intended for, which most of which becomes redundant.

Levels for v10 or older / [NeoLemmix] Mobilems I update (2017)
« on: April 10, 2017, 12:44:22 AM »
Mobilems 1 (the first big pack I ever made, originally for Lemmini back in... 2014?) is now updated to work with the latest (stable) NeoLemmix release. --DOWNLOAD ATTACHED TO THIS POST.--

NOTE: this levelpack will work with the old stable NeoLemmix. If you're unaware; it's recently gotten a major update in the form of a totally new file system. I'm currently working on updating this pack yet again to be playable with that.

also here: https://www.mediafire.com/?w6baba8onn2hp58

Besides updated for the new physics, some backroutes have been removed; some levels altered significantly, many levels removed, and some decorations added.

Feel free to leave feedback!

MobiLems 2 will be next....................

Closed / [BUG][PLAYER] buttons sticking
« on: February 22, 2017, 08:03:08 PM »
previously I reported a bug where I wasn't able to assign any skills at all but could never reproduce it.

I've reporduced it and have a better idea of what's going on; this happened on version 10.12.13 7BCDAB5

While I don't know what caused it; the select only left facing lemmings button is stuck so it's always on. If I hold down the other arrow it turns off and any lemming is selectable, when I let go the hold left button goes back on. Right now I can't seem to correct this, even restarting the program doesn't help.

The only thing that fixed it was updating to the latest stable player. I haven't got it to happen there yet.

EDIT: correction it's happened again this time however, it started after I opened the load replay button. It happened on "Keep on the Trucking" from bsmiths' redux pack. This time it was fixed when I restarted and played a different level.

EDIT 2: it's happened several times now and doesn't seem to be triggered by any one thing, but the minimap seems to be off by default; is this normal?

Probably unrelated during; one level while this was going on the minimap went blank. EDIT: and this is fixed by advancing forward at least 1 frame.

hypothesis: This might have something to do with having the minimap go over top the buttons (such as the hold left/right buttons) and since I believe namida plans to change how this works it may not be an issue.
