Lix 0.10.32 released.

  • Flopsy has overhauled his multiplayer level folders: 4 maps are new, 35 maps have been edited, 148 maps have been deleted. Now, Lix ships with a total of 990 multiplayer levels, 115 of which are by Flopsy.
  • Reorder the 3-player and 4-player directory listings: Flopsy's multiplayer directories appear at the top of these listings. These maps have solid quality and are suitable for beginners and experienced players alike.
  • Improve the balance in Rubix's asymmetric two-player map Constraint.
  • Warn about long level titles or long authors: In the editor, when you type a long title/author, a small warning will say that the level browser may abbreviate your text. You can still type as much as you like.

 Flopsy and I encourage you to remove Flopsy's old multiplayer level folders. From the Lix 0.10.32 download, you'll get better average level quality, and you don't need to weed through fluff or duplicates.

Manually delete Flopsy's old level folders in your old Lix installation:

levels/network/2p/flopsy
levels/network/3p/flopsy
... and 4p, 5p, 6p, 7p, ...
levels/network/8p/flopsy
levels/network/races/flopsy

... and then extract Lix 0.10.32.

Thanks!

Are you a historian? You can always re-download those removed levels from older Lix versions on Github.

RubiX

Just wanted to say hi to all you great people!   I never forget about Lix :)   nice to see you still work on it Simon!

Simon

Rubix, you're welcome! I'm busy these weeks/months away from the Lemmings Forums, but the work on Lix will resume, as it always has.

Sorry for the late reply.

Lix 0.10.33 released.

When we mouse-hover over the digger assignment, the bashing lix gets highlit because that lix has been that digger.

  • In the tweaker, when you hover over an assignment, the line will be printed in white. The so-assigned lix on the map will also be highlit in white, regardless of where that lix is or what that lix is currently doing.
  • Added geoo's 2 levels from Level Design Contest 30, Cycle Decomposition and Misaligned, to single/misc/contests/.
  • Fix #499: Now, the dark background of on-map tooltips spans the full width of the text.
  • Attribute the laser animation to Zanzindorf in doc/thanks.txt. I've forgotten that back when we added Zanzindorf's lasers. Sorry -- it's now finally in!
  • Code: Remove the custom reimplementation of al_convert_mask_to_alpha() and revert to Allegro 5's. The custom implementation was an attempt to fix #431 (Magic Pink isn't converted on macOS), but it didn't help. In the meantime, a change to Allegro 5's image loaders have fixed #431.

Lix 0.10.34 released.

  • Edge scroll speed is now proportional to the screen/window size. The same setting will scroll by more pixels on a bigger screen/window.
  • Remove the tooltip that told you how to use the hold-to-sroll feature. Before, every time you edge-scrolled, Lix would tell you how to scroll with the hold-to-scroll feature, e.g., with the right mouse button.
  • In insert mode, when you're about to replace the future of a single lix, the top of the screen tells you how many future skills you replace.
  • When you load a replay from disk or re-watch a completed level, you don't see "Replaying. Click to play from here." at the top of the screen. Instead, the mouse curser's sidekick icon has a little letter R. Once you click, the R turns into the regular scissors cursor, the top text appears, and the next click will cut the replay.
  • When you tweak skill assignments, the sound for a replayed assignment will now always play, and the assignment arrow will always appear. Before, they would only appear when you tweaked an assignment to a target time to which it hadn't been tweaked before. When you tweaked an assignment back and forth, sound and arrow would be missing on the second time.
  • Re-introduce the two options whether air clicks cut the replay. One option applies when the tweaker is open, the other when it isn't open. The default is: Air clicks always cut, both with or without the tweaker.
  • Code: The internal replay data structure now carries the lix's tribe color with every assignment in addition to the assignment's player number. This denormalizes the internal replay data structure, but it makes several parts of the program more straightforward. The networking protocol still sends plies only with player numbers to stay compatible with all Lix versions 0.10.x. The replay file format still saves the assignments only with player numbers to stay identical to the existing format.

<SimonN> Now the most important problem. What animal will go in the thread.
<Mindless> It's gotta be a dinosaur this time.
<SimonN> Dinosaur because Lix has turned 20.
<Flopsy> Oh dear, the Jackbox joke will have to change now. It used to be "Lix, 10 years in development and no end in sight" usually accompanied by a skeleton lying in ruins as a picture.
<SimonN> I pin the first lines of L++ to April 1, 2006. Yeah, over 20 years and no end in sight. I've been doing this for half my life now.

Lix 0.10.35 released.

:lix-cool: Download for Windows 64-bit -- recommended
:lix: Download for Windows 32-bit -- fallback for ancient machines
:lix: Download for Linux 64-bit
:lix-evil: Source code
:8(): Changelog
:8:()[: Issue tracker

How to update
Quick and dirty: Extract over your old installation. Level moves will then result in duplicate levels that remain in your level tree.

Clean method: Extract to new directory, then copy these directories from old Lix into new Lix:
user/
replays/
...and any levels that you've built yourself or added manually.

  • New user option: When you rewind the previous assignment, to exactly which nearby tick should Lix rewind? Before, this was hardcoded as −1, i.e., you rewound to the tick before the assignment. Now, you can set it to, e.g., −2. When you rewind like that, then re-assign, you've tweaked the assignment to be 1 frame earlier.

    • The default is −1. This is the behavior from Lix 0.10.34 and earlier.
    • kaywhyn will want to set it to −2. This replicates NL's behavior.
    • To do that: Go to "Options" -> "Game Controls" -> "<< rewinds to nearby tick".

  • Replace library SDLang-D with sdlite. These libraries parse and generate SDLang, the file format of the trophy file and the user option file. Reason: sdlite is faster and smaller. This removes two dependencies (sdlang-d and unit-threaded) and adds one dependency (sdlite).

This release is for kaywhyn's stream.

@Simon

I'm just posting to acknowledge that I've downloaded the newest version of Lix and got a chance to try out the new, tweaked rewind to previous feature before I stream in about an hour. Thanks, setting it to -2 did the trick! So, I'm all set and ready for streaming!

Also, thanks for featuring my Lemming King Forums avatar in the image in the above post   The avatar is courtesy of WillLem who made it for me from about 4 years ago when I was pondering what my avatar should be, as I've been avatarless for about 2 years ever since I first started posting to the site back in 2020! Well, I pitched the Lemming King idea to him, just because of the huge amount of Lemmings level packs I've cleared, and he happily obliged with making one for me!
