VampPrince Lemmings
« on: August 03, 2020, 10:38:17 PM »
This is a pack containing 128 out of 130 levels created by AbirdVampPrince.  I have converted them from .lvl files to .nxlv files so they can be played on the most recent Neolemmix version.

PLEASE BE AWARE

I have not checked these for playability/solvability post conversion so if you come across any levels like that let me know and ill do my best to repair them without altering the level too much as these are not my creations.

cool I downloaded this. I'll have to slowly play this. Although I don't know anything about this pack, It would be cool to have replays for this too.

I already played this pack a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I don't have any replays saved, as I played it on a very old NL version, i.e, 1.43 or older, the version that Lemmicks is compatible with. Not that it really matters, as I believe the author is no longer active here. Even with the pack compatible with the latest version of NL, there shouldn't be any problems with any of the levels. From what I remember, the pack is quite easy for the most part. The only hard nuts I remember were a few remakes of the original levels at the beginning of the Mayhem rank, as well as one near the end of the rank that has a really cool music track. I think it's the only level where there's singing.

Also, sam you mentioned that you only have 128 of the 130 levels available? Can they not be converted to the most recent NL version? In any case, I have the two missing levels if anyone wants them.

unfortunatly Mantha only gave the levels but no music track. And she didn't put them into ranks. They're just listed levels 1 -128, If you have the 2 missing ones I'll convert them to NL.

I just find it really strange that two levels are missing, so I'm just asking why you're missing them, not demanding them. My guess is that the download you had happened to have them missing. And yes, the version I played had the levels organized in ranks, so apparently the downloads we each have are different. In any case, I will provide them to eric, as I'm not quite familiar with how converting works. Perhaps once I start working with the editor it'll become less foreign to me.

No worries. It happens.

Got it. Then I was right about them being unable to convert, and this also means both our downloads have all 130 levels. I've sent eric the files, so let's see if he can make something of it.

@eric I PMed you the files, check your messages.

I got the rank info from running the pack with the download I have. I gave eric all my files. He might be able to make something of them.

ok here is VampPrinces lemmings for new formats neolemmix. It now has all 130 levels(Including the 2 missing ones). Also they are now put into the appropriate ranks

The 2 missing ones were Taxing 11 Rainbow Road, and Mayhem 4 Where's your Holiday Spirit? (now both are in the neolemmix pack)

10 in Vamp Camp
30 in Vamp Fun
30 in Vamp Tricky
30 in Vamp Taxing
30 in Vamp Mayhem
------------------------
130 total levels

The only thing I couldn't manage to do was extract the appropriate music from the Play me music.dat as I'm having difficulties trying to do it, since it was in the old format.
I tried a few tools, but nothing is working. Note: if Namida knows how to do it, please let me know.

Anyways, just extract these levels to your main neolemmix folder(preferably a new player folder).

Also thanks Kaywhyn for supplying these 130 levels including the 2 missing ones. Also the 2 missing ones were very difficult to try to get into NL's editor from the 1.43 one as for some
reason the styles wouldn't transfer, but now after many attempts to get it in NL, I finally got it. (maybe this is why Mantha16 didn't have the 2 missing ones)

You can now see the 2 missing ones in Taxing 11 and Mayhem 4, they are now there.

for music dowload from my dropbox

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/w1wyf1dqgo01lwm/AABP1S1hykYuS9aG5mhDNRCya?dl=1

Also if anybody wants to play this, I would be happy to collect the replays from you as I'm not very good at puzzle solving.

Nicely done, eric! I'm glad that I was able to provide you everything necessary for you to get it to work. I do feel bad that I sucked up your time from your other conversion project of Mobilems, but it seems like this detour was worth it. I wouldn't had known how to do it myself, as I have yet to fully use the editor, so I thought I pass it on to someone who at least has better knowledge of it, especially since you're currently working on a NL level pack yourself, Angry Lemmings.

Back when sam made the OP I meant to inquire about the 2 missing levels and I wanted to respond that I have the missing levels if anyone wanted them. I guess my attention was really divided at the time, as I completely forgot. In a way, I have eric to thank for responding to this topic last night that drew my attention and then that's when I remember that I wanted to respond that I have the two missing levels. However, as eric later pointed out, he is correct in that sam does have the 2 levels that weren't in the OP, they just didn't convert properly for some reason. Seems that eric also had problems trying to convert them due to "styles not transferring." Finally, eric is correct in that the two missing levels are Taxing 11 and Mayhem 4. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get the two levels to finally work?

The only thing I couldn't manage to do was extract the appropriate music from the Play me music.dat as I'm having difficulties trying to do it, since it was in the old format.
I tried a few tools, but nothing is working. Note: if Namida knows how to do it, please let me know.

Perhaps another person who might know how is WillLem, seeing that he's quite knowledgeable about music formats and files.

First of all Taxing 11 Rainbow Road some of the objects were missing from NL's Namida Psychodelic style. the 2 radiation traps and the 4 teleporters arent listed in his NL one, but they are in 1.43's
Psychodelic style so I had to make a 2nd Psychodelic one into Nl from 1.43. So now there's 2 Psychodelic styles in the NL editor. (This one was hard to explain since it involved a technical issue that's kind of complicated. Also when I converted it from 1.43 to NL, all the builder pickup skills didn't show up in NL so I had to manually add them in NL, by looking at the 1.43 at the same time.
so the Psychodelic style in 1.43 is more complete than Namida's NL one. So if I decide on making levels using the Psychodelic style in NL, I will use the One from 1.43 that's now in NL.

And for Mayhem 4 Where's your holiday Spirit again 1.43 uses rock-christmas which is very similar to Gigalem's Xmas-rock style in NL. But for some reason I had to make a 2nd one from 1.43
and put it into NL(So Now I have 2-1 called xmas-rock(Gigalem) originally in NL) and rock-christmas from 1.43. But for some reason when I converted it to NL it wouldn't accept it in NL using
Xmas-rock(Gigalem), only the rock-christmas. So that's why I also now have rock-christmas as another style in NL).
Again both these issues were kind of technical too, So this is most likely why Mantha16 didn't convert these 2 levels. I don't think Mantha16 would have been able to figure this out-too techincal for her.

also I just solved both these 2 levels to make sure they work. Now only the music issue I can't figure out, probably also a very technical issue since it was in old formats.

Ah, yes, this one is easy. I took a look at the level in the old player, and the reason why this wouldn't convert properly is simple: radiation was culled completely from New Formats NL and so it doesn't support it. You can only find slow freeze and radiation in Old Formats NL, such as in Strato's LWT pack for Old Formats. I have completely forgotten that there was such a level from this pack that had them.

And for Mayhem 4 Where's your holiday Spirit again 1.43 uses rock-christmas which is very similar to Gigalem's Xmas-rock style in NL. But for some reason I had to make a 2nd one from 1.43

I think the problems arise due to tile mixing, but I'm not certain. Then again, the colors are a bit different from the tilesets from the original games, so they're not exactly identical.

Quote
Now only the music issue I can't figure out, probably also a very technical issue since it was in old formats.

Yea, it's something about the way the music works in Old Formats. In those packs, if the music wasn't provided as a download, it worked automatically in the .nxp file. If a download was available, the content had to be extracted to the music folder. At least the pack has now been updated to work and is completely playable in New Formats NL, so it's no big deal if we can't get the music to work, but it's a shame, because I remember there were some really awesome tracks in the pack. Since I gave you the files, you can even listen to the music by loading the pack up in the old NL player.

In any case, after reading about the multiple issues that arose during the conversion process, I was definitely right to hand the task over to you. Not only do I lack the necessary knowledge to do it myself, even if I eventually did figure it out it would likely take me way too long to get anything done. You managed to get it all done in less than a day. It probably would take me several days or not even at all.

So, huge thanks both to sam for converting nearly all of the entire pack to New Formats, and eric's dedication, time, and effort in picking up the remaining slack in converting the 2 levels that wouldn't convert properly over to New Formats, as well as properly organizing the levels in the ranks that Albird intended, the pack is now complete with all 130 levels present. Cheers!

The teleporter was identical to the one in namida_circuit (which was the first style to have that teleporter), which is why it was removed. It should be replaced with that one.

The radiation object is a type of object that was removed in the new-formats version of NeoLemmix, so levels using it - unless they used it purely as a trap (in which case, Fire trap would work the closest, and has been used in some cases) - will not work properly in new-formats. Thus, it was an intentional choice to remove it.

Regarding the music, you should be able to use the NXP extractor to recover it from the NXP file.

Some members here are fine with being referred to by either their name or user name, and so don't have a preference. Me calling people by their names simply grew out of habit, and it's also my preference in my job as a teacher, as I like to go the student's real name. So, I tell them that if there's another name they prefer to go by instead of the name that appears on the attendance roster, that they should let me know. However, this is no excuse for me, as I should had asked you for clarification before if you prefer to be referred by your name or user name. Since it seems you don't appreciate being called by your name here, I'll make sure to say mantha16 from now on.

The difference is that I didn't misspell anything, while you misspelled my user name. However, apology accepted, and now you know that I don't like it when people misspell it. I've also had some really embarrassing experiences growing up from teachers mispronouncing my name. I guess that's just how it is being an Asian growing up in America.

Ok, A real big thanks to Namida(I really appreciate it) for reminding me about NXPextractor. I just remembered now you posting something about this a few months ago. Anyways, thanks to Namida
I now have all the ogg files that were inside the Main Game - PLAY ME_Music.dat. After using the NXPextractor, it creates a new folder called Main Game - PLAY ME_Music where all the ogg files
to get the music just download from my dropbox linkwere
extracted to

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/w1wyf1dqgo01lwm/AABP1S1hykYuS9aG5mhDNRCya?dl=1

UPDATE: in the Taxing 11 The rainbow road I had to add Namida's suggestion about the Radiation traps not working in Newformats, but I just put the fire traps on top of radiation objects, making
look like the radiation traps work.

Anybody that downloaded this pack please redownload it since those didn't work before. now I put the firetraps(flopsy) on top of radiation traps to make it appear those work.

Also redownload Vampprince lemmings here. Replace the old one since those 2 missing levels don't have the music name in NL's editor music field, because I edited them. I just added them for those 2 levels as they were blank. Since I didn't edit any other levels, they already have music names in the music box of the NL editor.

just extract the level pack to your neolemmix main folder(Preferably a fresh copy)

And Kaywhyn now we have the Vampprince music for the pack, so now this pack is officially finished for the New formats version, also all 130 levels and put into the appropriate ranks.

Now all thats needed is replays. I listened to a few levels to make sure the new music works. Now it sounds better as we don't have to just settle for the default Amiga music.

Edit: Add this style(rock-christmas) to your new formats style folder so the level "Where's your Holiday Spirit?" will open.
Also fixed the level "Rainbow Road". had to remove the radiation objects(replaced with fire objects" and replaced the old format transporters with the new
formats ones(The new format ones say "IN" and "OUT"

Good to know, Sam! :) Thanks for letting me know. My point exactly in that I prefer to call people by their real name. Just know that I'll be using Sam and mantha16 interchangeably then. If I use Sam here, that's just laziness on my part as I didn't feel like typing the whole username out lol. Also, thank you for using the correct spelling of my username in your most recent post ;)

Anyway, let's take the discussion back to what it's supposed to be about, the level pack Albird's Vampprince Lemmings, while leaving discussion of non-related things on other topics. I love the occasional banter on other people's topics, but I try not to overdo it and stray too far from what the topic's originally about. It's all about keeping the topics organized. In the same way I don't mind my students trying to get to know me better, but after a certain point, if it becomes clear that they're talking to me just to avoid doing their work, I would give a quick, sudden, "Ok, sorry for getting you all off-track, but it's time to get back to work!" As an authoritative figure in the classroom, it's all about maintaining control of the classroom, as once loss of control happens, chaos will ensue.

It's awesome that the custom music is working, as I remember a lot of them being awesome when I played through the pack in Old Formats a few months ago. In particular, I really like the one that plays on Mayhem 29. I think it's the only track in the pack that has singing. When I first heard it, I was quite entranced by the soothing music and vocals even though I don't understand any of it lol. I just found out that it's in Japanese, which I don't speak. The track is called Glitter, so if you have the music tracks, take a listen to it on any video player that is capable of playing .ogg music files.

Ok, A real big thanks to Namida(I really appreciate it) for reminding me about NXPextractor. I just remembered now you posting something about this a few months ago. Anyways, thanks to Namida

You are awesome, sir! I have completely forgotten about this nxp extractor. I have confirmed that the custom music plays. I also recommend taking a listen to the track on Mayhem 29 even though we're not going to understand what is being sung :crylaugh: Now everything is complete, and those who want to play the pack can now enjoy it in all its glory: up-to-date in New Formats with some awesome custom music tracks. Cheers!

No one does, except for the pack author himself. However, since he's not active anymore, it doesn't really matter how you solve the levels. The nice thing is that the pack is on the much easier side. I remember there was only like 3 or 4 that were difficult, but they're more tricky than difficult.

Yes mantha16, I remember you mentioning preferring packs that are on the easier side. I, on the other hand, don't mind difficult packs, but I still love playing packs of any difficulty. I certainly found Albird's Vampprince pack enjoyable despite first playing it on one of the oldest NL player. It's just a shame there aren't as many easier packs as there should be, but because there's so much custom content available, there should still be something for everyone that matches the person's skill level.

yes, I just heard the music from Mayhem 29, Yes it sounds more like Japanese, But I don't speak either Korean or Japanese. Now if it were in German, yes I could translate it. And of course as
you know this is why I like Icholotot's packs or at least ones he has(ie dovelems or pimolems), since he is german.

Hey Kaywhyn there is some private message I would like to send you by P.M. but I don't want to post it here.

Here's a link to the full VampPrince Level pack. This includes music and levels... but I added the missing Rank_graphic and made a new logo.

I fixed the {level} file so it'll display the levels correctly, added signs, and tweaked some menu colors.

This will drop in and fully work. I couldn't get the original archives to work right so I made this and it's here for all who want it.

Actually, it looks like the levels "81_Rainbow_Road" and "Mayhem 4 Where's your Holiday Spirit?" do not work. I thought I read above that someone fixed them. But I can't get those to work. unsupported style. I'll update the Pack as soon as it's working here.

ok here are the fixed levels  Taxing "81 Rainbow Road" and Mayhem "104 Where's your Holiday Spirit?"

81 Rainbow road
The radiation objects had to be removed(replaced with fire objects) since in New formats there are no radiation objects(which makes the level not open).
also had to replace the old teleporter objects (also makes the level NOT open) with the new format ones (the teleporters now in new formats say "IN" and "OUT")

104 Where's your Holiday Spirit?
many objects had to be fixed to work with the new formats version. That's why the level didn't open in new formats. level is now fixed.
Also add the rock-christmas style to your new formats folder (So level will open)

again here are the 2 fixed levels and the rock-christmas style (which should be added to the new formats folder).

rock-christmas style is a mix of gigalems' "gigalem_xmasrock" and  the "ohno_snow" style

Also updated the OP with the fixed levels and posted the rock-christmas style(See reply #19)

Great Job ericderkovits! I updated my Zip file so it's now the full complete working copy if downloaded.

I thought this pack was worth updating and keeping around. Thanks for jumping in to the rescue.

This link is same as above, both are the full working pack now.

The FUN level "19_Bash_Left.nxlv" has an issue with the trap at the left. The trap is a tad too high and the lemmings walk right over it with no death.

I built a ramp to the trap and you can zap a lemming by dropping him right on the trap from above.

Yeah I just noticed it too. Just lower the zapper trap so lemmings will die when walking on it. I haven't playtested any of the levels so I don't know if any other levels have issues.  This was probably due to the conversion from the .lvl format.

The only thing I did was to fix the 2 levels that wouldn't open with help from Kaywhyn supplying me the .lvl format of the 2 missing levels.

I've never edited a level. I'm hoping someone familiar with the editor can fix it. I can update the zip file again if I get a fixed level.

There could be more issues with later levels after a full play-through.

here is that level. I just lowered the zapper trap.

Also, it's easy to edit neolemmix levels

just start the editor and

1) click on open under the "file" dropdown menu
2) choose the levels folder and choose the pack you want to edit
3) choose the rank for that pack (Which holds all the .nxlv levels for that rank)
4) then choose the exact level to edit.
5) edit as needed
6) resave the edited level

so for Vamprince Lemmings (opened the NL Editor)

1) clicked on open from the drop down menu
2) chose the levels folder and then chose Vamprince Lemmings
3) chose the "Vamp_Fun" rank
4) chose the "19_Bash_Left.nxlv"
5) lowered the zapper trap(tested by hitting "Play Level" under the Tools drop-down menu(made sure zapper trap worked correctly))
6) resaved the level

I should add that playtesting the level is absolutely not necessary to check if the trap works :P All you need to realize is that as long as part of the trigger area is slightly buried in the terrain, it will work! By extension and the same reasoning, even when exits sit directly on the ground, they might not work as intended because none of the trigger area is buried in the terrain. Therefore, the best way to ensure that exits/traps work is to simply make sure part of the trigger area is inside the terrain. As long as this happens, they will work.

The reason why the ghostbuster trap wasn't working before was how all of the trigger area was on or above the terrain. In other words, the trap was one pixel too high, so therefore it just needed to be lowered by one pixel in order to function. This is the very nice thing about New Formats NL ;) To check, simply toggle on "trigger areas" in the editor, and all objects with trigger areas will be highlighted in pink.

ok, yeah good point. Also I just tried in the 1.43 editor for Superlemmini, turning on trigger areas, but It doesn't show the trigger spots for traps and exits, In the 10.xx.xx editor it does though, but unfornately one can only save a level in .lvl format in the 10.xx.xx editor.

In the 1.43nc editor, trigger areas are only shown if you select Lemmix/Neolemmix as the style when opening a .lvl file. If you select Superlemmini as the style, they will not display. In any case, trigger areas work differently depending on the platform/engine, and if the traps function on Lemmix/NL, they should work on Superlemmini as well and hence no adjustment to the traps is needed. For example, in Lemmini the trap checks for the middle of the Lemming, while in Superlemmini, the traps check at the foot of the Lemming instead, and as has been mentioned at times, while the latter may seem odd, this is actually how trigger areas work on Dos/Amiga. Hence this explains why it's much harder to avoid traps on Lemmini but in contrast much easier to avoid on Superlemmini by, say, building over the trigger area.

I just checked Fun 9 and the same problem with the ghostbuster trap occurs there as well, where it is placed a pixel too high and hence doesn't work. Therefore, the trap not working on New Formats NL is simply due to the conversion preserving that. Makes sense, since the pack was originally for very old Formats NL.
