I was going to say something which I guess would perpetuate a stereotype regarding gender and video games...
...but in place of that, let me point out that if I recall correctly, in highly social animals like bees and ants, sometimes individual members of the colony may commit altruistic acts sacrificing themselves for the good of the colony. So the next time the game forces you to blow up one or more lemmings, just think instead that the lemming you blow up is willingly sacrificing itself for the good of the rest.
As for lemmings lost due to careless clicking, well, just imagine that the lemmings are reincarnated from game to game, so they never "truly" die.
Hopefully before long you'll get very very use to them dy---, I mean reincarnating.
