Lemmini / Re: [SUG] Built-in level editor
« on: May 05, 2021, 09:55:07 PM »
SuperLemmini itself supports having a background layer, which just contains regular terrain pieces (so you could create a large terrain piece to use as a wallpaper-type background, which would be more efficient).

I know that, and I already tried but, because I'm dumb, I couldn't make it work properly.

Lemmini / Re: [SUG] The re-introduction of Timed Bombers
« on: May 05, 2021, 06:40:11 PM »
Ummm... I gotta say that I prefer the third option as well. I think that having it tied to the level's integers is the best to avoid inequalities. Instant bombers are cool but they aren't just making some puzzles easier, they also reduce some to just a walk in the park. I'm with Ron_Stard on this one, we have more or less the same arguments I think.

And doesn't Lix have something like that with its two types of exploders?

Lemmini / Re: SuperLemmini development

That's something I'd really like to do but I'd feel too guilty, even if it's open-source. On the other hand, I don't want to see this project going to waste, it still has so much potential! I really hope Tsyu is okay and is eventually going to work on SuperLemmini again some day, but it sounds like a dream at this point... :(

I can't really help you on the programming part for now, but I have several books on JAVA so, that might guide me in the future... maybe? Sorry if I am not of much help.

It's not a bad idea, but that would mean that anyone can modify the level they are playing on the go, no? ???

Personally, I would be more comfortable with a separated program, something like the NeoLemmix Editor. :D

On a side note, I have a minor wish that's not really related to the potential SuperLemmini level editor, but to SuperLemmini in general. I really wish that the engine would support wallpaper backgrounds, that's something I'm envious of NeoLemmix, because single coloured backgrounds are starting to feel too empty. There are background integers for SuperLemmini but I'm too dense to make it work properly... There's always the good old trick of using an object as the background but it's not really intuitive.

Live Event Scheduling / Re: Power Bomberman
« on: May 04, 2021, 12:19:10 AM »
Yeah, it's free. And it better be, not necessarily because it's a fan-game, but especially because Konami (RIP Hudson Soft) wouldn't like it if it was payable.

And yes, it is easy to download. I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link here but if you type "Power Bomberman download" on your search engine, it should come up quickly. It's on the BombermanBoard, a forum dedicated to Bomberman just like our own is with Lemmings. The game and its components are in a ZIP file, you just need to extract them in a folder and, here you go! :D
Also, the game got updated just today.

Live Event Scheduling / Power Bomberman
« on: May 03, 2021, 03:24:05 PM »
Woah... it's been a long time since I've visited the Forum... :-[

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a Power Bomberman multiplayer game. If enough people are in, we might try to schedule one!
For those who don't know, Power Bomberman is a fan-made Bomberman game for PC, with one of its main feature being online play (up to 8 players). It's hyper, nervous and ultra fun! And it's always funny to see someone get blown up by their own bombs, like me!

I'll try to be here.

Lemmini / Re: SuperLemmini Source?
« on: January 08, 2021, 06:42:21 PM »
Timed bombers are a gameplay mechanics. If you get rid of them, some levels aren't puzzles anymore, because yes, knowing when the lemmings will explode when activating the timer is a puzzle, because you have to guess it and calculate it. Plus, you can use them to do synchronised puzzles and even synch it with the music of the level (hard to pull off but sooo satisfying).

Of course this is only my opinion but, there are some people who likes the timer! Certainly way less than the others who thinks it's useless and constraining, but it would be nice to have a choice at least. :(  Maybe it's possible to have a boolean tied to the level, like with the superlemming mechanics.

Welcome! :D

Sadly no, I don't think anybody has it. Maybe WillLem can help you on this topic?

As for adding back in the timers, I would still wait for a bit, since Tsyu, the developer, said that it could be in the next update. But there is no way to know when they will come back or if they are still working on the engine...

If you want, you can check Lemmini, the ancestor of SuperLemmini. Also programmed in Java, with timed bomber and Open Source. Here's the site : http://lemmini.de/

I'm sorry I couldn't help you more than that.

Lemmini / Re: Physics differences between SuperLemmini and NeoLemmix
« on: December 29, 2020, 07:43:55 PM »
Number 2 is actually a case of NeoLemmix Editor not converting the level properly (I did it hastily and without knowing how to use the new editor). In the original SuperLemmini version, the pixels aren't diagonally opposing each others, they are "glued" together, because lemmings do walk through diagonally opposite pixels. It's in fact while making this level that I learned about this and I didn't wanted the lemmings to die so early in the level because of an optical illusion of some sort.

Here's a screenshot of the SuperLemmini version :

And here's the NeoLemmix version :

It's kinda hard to see, so I changed the background colour for it to be easier but you still need to zoom a lot.

I don't know how the NeoLemmix Editor works when converting a SuperLemmini level to a NeoLemmix one, but my assumption is that it reorganise the tiles on a grid maybe? It's probably my fault too, since I never used the newer version of the NeoLemmix Editor. Sorry for all of this.

Lix Multiplayer Dates / Re: Lix Multiplayer, Sunday, Jan 3, 2021

I'm interested, I need to know if I'm still hopeless at multiplayer Lix with you all! :lix-laugh:  I don't know if I'll be available though, so I'm crossing my fingers on this one.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Re: Moments in video games that scared you
« on: December 17, 2020, 12:45:43 AM »
Ah, so people got creeped out by Myst? That's really interesting... I never found Myst creepy when I was little (after I finally disassociated it from Forestia of course :P). Well I guess Achenar's rooms are a bit spooky but other than that, Myst was a walk in the park. In fact, it's one of those games that can instantaneously calm me down. The dreamlike landscapes and the musics are so soothing to me, especially the tower.
I see that some people are saying that the eeriness comes from being lost on deserted islands without knowing what to do and the loneliness. I can agree. I had a buggy version of the Masterpiece Edition where the cutscenes didn't load and therefore, I didn't know about Sirius and Achenar being in the red and blue books, so I was really alone. All I would see in the books was a black rectangle.

Sheesh... that Donkey Kong Country Returns level gave me goosebumps, I hate spiders! This is nightmare fuel for arachnophobes.  That kind of remind me of the blindfolded boos levels from Super Princess Peach, those were really stressful!

Can't say I'm really surprised by that "got caught" scene from the Chicken Run game, the film was kinda dark (but I must admit the sound is terrifying :o). This made me remember of that freaking horrifying robot dog from one of the Wallace and Gromit film. I guess the Aardman team is good at making dogs scary. :D

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Moments in video games that scared you
« on: December 12, 2020, 01:52:38 AM »
We all got moments where we got scared, creeped out or uncomfortable while playing a video game. Not just horror games (I mean, that's their job :P) but also any games. Even the most family friendly ones can hold a few surprises, maybe that wasn't even their intention or maybe they started normally and suddenly got spooky without warning. Well this it what this thread is for, to share those scary moments!

I'm starting with one of the earliest I can remember. I’m gonna talk about Forestia. Now, I'm not the only one to have been a victim of this game, in fact, if you were an European kid that grew up in the 90s/2000s who played a lot of edutainment PC games (like me), you certainly know what I’m talking about. So, what is Forestia?
Forestia is a French Myst-like (first person point n' click) where you walk around in a magic forest with talking animals and trees and other fantastic creatures. You play games and solve mysteries and can collect plants and take pictures of animals to learn about them. There is also a day/night cycle. In short, it just seems like a perfectly harmless little game but, as you might have suspected by now, there is something dark behind all that. This game is cursed and I'm not only speaking about the 3D that has badly aged a bit. Some of the missions you are assigned to have a creepy atmosphere, like the mermaid one or the sneaking in the anthill one. But if you want to discover all of that by yourself, go play it, it's abandonware (but you'll need an old OS or a virtual machine for it to work correctly). Now, there's a particular moment that those of you who already played know full well what I'm referring to :

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The impact this moment had on 5 years old me was strong enough for me to not touch Forestia again (and Myst too, because I though they were the same game :forehead:) for quite some time. But, I still love this game very much and it's one of my favourite from my childhood despite that. Daddyoak and Little Birch are very nice and probably the reason why I like trees that much. Not only that but it is a tradition to play it every evening of the summer solstice, because "Ce soiiir c'est la fête! La fête de la musique!". :D

Forum Games / Re: Corrupt-a-Wish

Your wish is granted : the Earth is now under eternal winter! It's very cold everywhere, everything is buried under snow and water is now ice.

I wish that a traditionally animated Lemmings cartoon existed...

Lemmini / Re: SuperLemmini topics board
« on: September 30, 2020, 11:56:37 AM »
I'd be very happy if SuperLemmini had it's own board, especially since Tsyu said there maybe will be more features taken from the Amiga version, which would help it to be more different from the other engines. :D

Sadly, I kinda doubt it's gonna happen now, like WillLem said, Tsyu has not given signs of activity since a while (I hope they're alright) and SuperLemmini is still not as popular as Neolemmix and Lix. We're only 4 or 5 (maybe a bit more but I'm not sure) active members on the Forum that use this engine as of now. And there are no way that I can think of to know if guests and people that are not registered actually use it too.

But that's just me being pessimistic, I really wish SuperLemmini had it's own board. This engine kept growing both in personality and in popularity in the last months and has so much to offer, I'm sure it has hidden depths that could make it even better, we'll see! :cute:
