Might a level editor be made for the Amiga lemmings or at least something that can be used to put levels back into the game (unless of course I'm just trying to use the wrong files and don't realize it)?

Level Design / Lemmings (DOS) exe Remake...
July 07, 2009, 01:42:33 AM
I was looking on the old forums, and buried deep in one board there was a topic about modifying ODDTABLE.DAT, and in that EricLang asked if ccexplore's hack was still around.  I still have it, so if ccexplore is okay with it and people want it, I could try and find somewhere to upload it.

Lemmings Main / Glitches in Lemmix
July 07, 2009, 01:02:55 AM
Lemmix does have some glitches, although they just might be stuff like some glitches not working.

Apparently, there is a steel-related glitch that cannot be saved in a Lemmix replay.

Combining the specific challenge threads...

Levels that could be beaten with 1 of every skill (required percentage) and in under 1 minute.  When submitting levels, please note if it uses a glitch.  So far I'm going to add to the list what I've tested, even though there are some that I'm sure would work.  Note that the % possible are the highest percentages that have been achieved under the criteria.

Tame
1 - Down and Out Lemmings (100% possible)
2 - Rent-A-Lemming (100% possible)

THIS LIST IS INCOMPLETE

Another note:  I've read somewhere about another challenge thread idea that was going to be held for something.  If this is that thread idea, please note that it is merely a coincidence.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / General Boss Battles
July 04, 2009, 07:57:36 AM
>>>This post is a drawn out reply in another topic that I decided would work better in a new topic.

I like SOME bosses, but others I hate.  In Chrono Trigger, some of the bosses have insanely large health amounts!  Seriously, gotta hate long drawn out boss battles just because the boss has something like, I forget, 120,000 HP (or was it 12,000 or 1,200,000?  I'll check the DS version sometime and get back to you on that).  However, some bosses are the type that are typically fun, or there are some that are fun once you know the best way to do it, but before hand are quite annoying.  It isn't exactly the most obvious thing that while you could pelt Draygon's stomach with missiles in Super Metroid, it's faster to break the turrets and allow him to grab you then use the grapple beam to attach to the electricity flowing from the broken turrets.  What about Phantoon?  Hey, how are we supposed to figure out that it is harmful to use Super Missiles?

Here's one of my staple fun/no fun bosses:  Mother Brain (Super Metroid, not the original game's)

If you didn't get the reserve tanks and energy tanks, the boss is nearly impossible.  Also, if anyone manages to get this far on three or fewer energy tanks, you are amazing, but sorry, there is literally no way to beat Mother Brain with this number of tanks because of how Mind Beam works.

I haven't played far enough into the game to say this for myself, but according to Mr. K, the boss on one of the areas in Legend of Zelda:  Twilight Princess (something along the lines of Arbiter's Ground) is fun.

Cave Story's Monster X is annoying for first-timers because there is no obvious way how to damage it, mainly because you have to knock out the eye thingies first, which can confuse people if they notice they are attacking it in the most obvious way they can and aren't inflicting any damage.  Once you know how, however, this is one of the funnest boss battles of all time!

What's your favorite web browser?  I like Mozilla Firefox.

NOTE:  The list of browsers in the poll was all I could think of.

If I'm wrong about Netscape being completely dead, let me know and I will add it to the choices.

General Discussion / Stupid Computer Features
June 19, 2009, 03:40:34 AM
What stupid features does your computer have?
I especially want to hear about those that get in the way more often than they do what they are intended to do.

My CPU doesn't shut down through any way except the operating system, so if the computer freezes, or if you run an "It is now safe to shut down your computer" OS, you have to cut the power to the CPU as opposed to press the power button.  Very annoying.

Level Design / Level Editors
June 15, 2009, 02:42:56 AM
We should make a list of level editors and where to get them.  It should be also noted which games and what version they edit.

LemEdit and Lemmix edit original, look for download links on Lemmings Archive.

Forget what skills the levels actually give you now.

Let's say every level had the following skills:

1 climber
1 floater
1 bomber
1 blocker
1 builder
1 basher
1 miner
1 digger

Which levels would be possible?

Here are some I know of so far:

Just Dig!/Ozone Friendly Lemmings
Only floaters can survive this/It's Lemmingentry Watson
It's hero time/Konbanwa Lemming-san
Come on over to my place/Let's be careful out there*

*This would need to be tested.

General Discussion / Partition Recovery?
June 12, 2009, 06:53:46 AM
No!!!  When Mr. K reinstalled the OS for me, we lost the Ubuntu partition!

How can I get it to work again (after all, it is backed up)?

This is important with the Programming Language thing, as I will need to test it in Linux to make sure it works under Linux, or at least under WINE.

Level Design / Custom Tilesets in Lemmix?
June 12, 2009, 03:47:19 AM
Just to clarify things a bit:  this does not mean VGASPECX.DAT files.

I'm wondering if there is a way to create a new tileset that could be used in Lemmings.
If this is possible, we could possibly extract tiles out of VGASPEC levels, and use them in our own custom levels!

Here are a few levels that are only hard because the game physics interfere.

Pea Soup:  I had to cheat this level in my playthrough because I didn't have the patience to build the stupid bridge AGAIN.  Why did I fail?  Because the lemmings were hitting the water trigger area before they hit the terrain.  Of course, you can't see the trigger area, so you assume that the lemmings WON'T drown, because they should be landing on the terrain, not in the water.  Looks like someone forgot to play-test.

Down, Along, Up.  In that order:  The builder numbers, terrain, and the lemming density create a huge problem:  You have to go WAY out of your way to get the lemmings to build without getting interrupted by the blocks.

Curse of the Pharaohs:  Lemmings waste builders because of most versions having a lack of a direction selector.  Honestly, if you want to beat this level, the solution on Lemmings Encyclopedia doesn't work very well.  The way I found seems to make a bit more sense, easier to find, and easier to pull off.

Know of any others like this?  Post away.

Hey.  I'm working on two game projects, an action/adventure game and an RPG.  While I could use game development software, it wouldn't be a good idea since I need it to work on at least Windows and Mac (because of crashing issues, I don't want to force my players to use Windows!  Also, while this may not happen for a while, my next computer will probably be a Mac).  I understand this would require edits, but what programming language is easiest to use that would be able to do both OSes with the least amount of change between the two versions of the coding?

Keep in mind that I need something that is very basic to learn, as I am new to the programming field.  If anyone knows any way to convert a .exe file for Windows into something that would work with Mac, that will do, too.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Worst game ever?
June 09, 2009, 05:46:55 AM
And, no, I do not mean statistically.  I mean by your experience.  ET is not the worst game we have ever played by those of us who have not played it.

From what I've played, I'll be willing to say that well, erm...  tough choice...

Elmo's Letter Adventure (though I loved it, like, when?  When I was three?)

When I try to run a downloaded replay, Lemmix tells me there's an error.  Anyone know what to do?

Forum Games / Puzzle/Riddle Game
June 05, 2009, 10:13:17 PM
Your attention please.

You have the right to decide whether your riddle is acceptable.

SCORING
Major hint trigger:  1 point.
Solved: 2 points.
Bad Riddle:  -1 point.

LEADERBOARD
Simon, 4
Chmera, 4

Like the quiz, but with logic puzzles/riddles to fill in for the questions.

You may ask questions (within reason) to gather more information.

NOTE:  Due to the likelihood of someone getting a wrong answer, wait for your answer to be confirmed to ask a new riddle.

To start:

A lemming is given a skill.  Soon after, he knows that he will soon die.  Why is this?

HINT:  Skill stock/selection matters.

Lemmings Main / Favourite Lemmings Music Version

So, what's YOUR favourite?  I like the DOS TGA music.
I change my vote...  I like the Amiga version's better.

Lemmings Main / Best Port of Lemmings?
June 03, 2009, 05:25:08 AM
What is your favourite port of lemmings?

I like the DOS versions, but I wish their was a way to get VGA graphics with TGA sound. http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/tongue.gif" alt=":P" title="Tongue" class="smiley" />

This is a place to post any levels you want to submit to the fangame project!

As always, you can post links to level packs, preferably your own or those of someone who you know WILL NOT MIND.

You can also do detailed reviews of these levels here.
