Recently, I was thinking, perhaps Lix should include the time zone in the replay filename.

Lix version: 0.10.31 64-bit (not the compile yourself version)
Operating System version: Windows 10 LTSC 2021 64-bit English-United Kingdom, Version 21H2 OS Build 19044.5854
Description: Recently, I was playing a two-player multi-player Lix netplay session with Simon from IRC. Whilst I was playing, I noticed one of my other monitors had a "this monitor hasn't had any activity, powering off soon, press OK to cancel"-type messages. The way I was sitting, it's a bit delicate to get up and get the TV remote to turn it off, so I decided to just let it power off, as I wasn't using it. After doing so, the terrain on Lix turned black. Also, I had two Lix windows open, I also had a second, windowed "neutrals" Lix instance, which this also applies too. I've also attached the replay to the post. After loading the next round, everything was fine agian.
Steps to reproduce:
I haven't tested if it's reproducible yet, but I suppose you should just
  • Have a multi-monitor configuration
  • Open Lix and load a level
  • Turn one of your other monitors off
  • The terrain should change black
Screenshots/Recordings:
Luckily, I like to record my Lix sessions from IRC with Simon to look back one, so I was recording this all, I will add a recording later once I figure out how to use FFMPEG to trim a recording based on two timestamps without re-encoding it, but for now, here is a screenshot.

1. Go to your Lix colours
2. Set one of the sliders to F0
3. Press the right arrow with one arrow

This then cycles it through to 00 instead of going F2

The scissors cursor now shows up when you're watching back your netplay replays. Is this really intended as you're usually not going to want to edit when you're watching your netplay replays back? These are Simons thoughts on it:

Quote[2025-03-29 19:33:05] <SilkenHealer> @SimonN Just a heads up, I'm not sure if I should file this as a sug/bug topic on the forums or not, if you intended it for it I don't think it needs changing, but are you aware that you get the scissors cursor on Lix even when you're watching solobattle replays back? Is that really intended that you get the scissors in the way of the cursor when you just want to watch old multi-player battles back and you probably aren't intending to edit the replay?
[2025-03-30 23:22:41] <SimonN> SilkenHealer: " I'm not sure if I should file this as a sug/bug topic": Always file. It's not your job to guess what I think. If stuff bothers you, post.
[2025-03-30 23:23:04] <SilkenHealer> I just wanted to get your thoughts on it first
[2025-03-30 23:23:29] <SimonN> SilkenHealer: "scissors cursor on Lix even when you're watching solobattle replays back? Is that really intended" Not explicitly desired. Only a consequence of how we can edit it. Usually, you don't want to edit it, and then it is borderline misleading. I don't know what's best here.
[2025-03-30 23:23:45] <SimonN> Yep.
[2025-03-30 23:24:25] <SilkenHealer> It was just a fleeting thought, I do feel like it doesn't need filing if you intended, I'm sorry that's just my thoughts.
[2025-03-30 23:24:32] <SimonN> Sorry for business in real life. Still more stuff to do. Still many topics on LF on my backlog.
[2025-03-30 23:24:43] <SimonN> Hmm.
[2025-03-30 23:25:14] <SimonN> What was your hunch? Regluar cursor? Different cursor altogether?
[2025-03-30 23:25:21] <SilkenHealer> Prehaps I can just make a thread to discuss it, without doing it as a "proper" report with version, steps to reproduce, etc. that I've been trying to do recently for sugs/bugs to make it more detailed and easier for you.
[2025-03-30 23:25:39] <SimonN> Yes, those are excellent.
[2025-03-30 23:25:48] <SimonN> Thanks!

What's everyone else's thoughts on this?

Message to future people: my initial post here was wrong about assuming Windows Key + Shift + Left/Right Arrow wasn't a standard and didn't work in Lix, read all the posts here for the full context

Lix Version: Lix 0.10.30 64-bit ((thought perhaps I should also mention just in case it matters (doubt it will) that I'm on the unlimited titled build Simon sent me, but that should be exactly the same as normal 0.10.30 except for that))

Operating System Version: Windows 10 LTSC 2021 64-bit English-United Kingdom, Version 21H2 OS Build 19044.5608

Description: When Lix is set to hardware fullscreen, in a multi-monitor configuration, it opens on the non-primary monitor. Similarly, Lix also opens on the non-primary monitor when I change the screen option (= whether Lix software/hardware fullscreen or windowed; Simon: to what?) while it's already on software fullscreen on your primary monitor. By the way, I use "primary" as in what monitor I use primarily, and as in what's set to the primary monitor in my operating system settings. As both setting it to automatically go to your primary monitor based on your operating system settings, or an ability to change it manually would be ideal. This basically forces me to turn off all my other monitors before I play Lix on hardware fullscreen. May I suggest this solution I saw on a separate game named "Terraria", that allowed you to change it with Windows Key + Shift + Left/Right Arrow. I like that solution

Steps to reproduce:
  • Use a multi-monitor configuration
  • Open Lix
  • Change it to hardware fullscreen
  • Watch as it opens itself on another monitor

Screenshots/Recordings: None
Expected behaviour: Can be discussed, but ideally (a) Opens based on operating system settings to primary monitor first (b) Allows you to change it with Windows Key + Shift + Left/Right Arrow

Lix version: 0.10.30 64-bit (not the compile yourself version) ((thought perhaps I should also mention just in case it matters (doubt it will) that I'm on the unlimited titled build Simon sent me, but that should be exactly the same as normal 0.10.30 except for that))
Operating System version: Windows 10 LTSC 2021 64-bit English-United Kingdom, Version 21H2 OS Build 19044.5608
Description: Rcecently, I wanted to change Lix's deafult font to a font named "Tahoma" to try and get the old Lix look back. So, I had the idea to try and find the font in the game's files, and download a .tff file online, and replacing it. The .tff file is from here https://font.download/dl/font/tahoma.zip. Now this looks okay but it doesn't look exactly the same as what I wanted. I wanted the font too look like this video https://youtu.be/e35LjKmwRUE As you can see in this video the font looks more pixelated. At least this version of the Tahmoa font is the correct size no matter the resolution, and is readable. By the way, Simon told me that old Lix (featured in that video) rendered at 640x480 in an IRC conversation we had, so I assume that hardware fullscreen 640x480 on modern Lix does the same thing? That's the only reason I can think off why it would look different and not be a Lix bug

I then tried a different version of that font from this link on GitHub https://github.com/wine-mirror/wine/raw/refs/heads/master/fonts/tahoma.ttf and the results look completley awful. At first I thought it was in some weird hieroglyphs, however I then realized you could actually technically make out what it was trying to say, barely. In addition to this, the results do not scale. The size at 640x480 hardware fullscreen, are the exact same at 1920x1080 software fullscreen. So at 1920x1080 software fullscreen, the text is way too small for the buttons.

Steps to reproduce:
  • Navigate to ../lix-0.10.30/data/fonts
  • Move the djvusans.tff file out and keep it safe
  • Obtain another font you want to use in tff format, and paste in that directory
  • Rename the font you want to use to djvusans.tff
  • Run Lix
  • (Optionally) Change Lix to hardware fullscreen 680x480 and software fullscreen 1920x1080
Screenshots/Recordings:

Hardware fullscreen 640x480, GitHub Tahoma font

Software fullscreen 1920x1080, GitHub Tahoma font

Demonstration on the GitHub Tahoma font - you can sort of make out some letters

Demonstration of the text being too small for the buttons with the GitHub Tahoma font for different resolution settings

Old Lix video that demonstrates the Tahoma font look that I want
https://pomf2.lain.la/f/sjka8m8e.mp4

Expected behaviour: Putting the Tahmoa font in the Lix fonts directory renamed to "djvusans.tff" makes it look like the old Lix in that video I sent.

1. Go to advanced search
2. Click on "Choose boards to search in, or search all"
3. Select only the Lix boards
4. Search for the word "font"
5. Results that don't contain the word font are coming up

Lix version: 0.10.29 64-bit (not the compile yourself version)
Operating System version: Windows 10 LTSC 2021 64-bit English-United Kingdom, Version 21H2 OS Build 19044.5371
Description: Since Lix 0.10.29, when I attempt to use the Windows Alt+Tab switcher on Lix, Lix just stays fullscreened, and I can't switch to anything else. This is very frustrating as I'm basically stuck on Lix on that monitor unless I exit Lix. Also, pressing the Windows Key does not show the taskbar either. This is for software fullscreen, by the way. It still works perfectly as expected on Lix 0.10.28, by the way. Also, for both of these, it will show the operating system mouse cursor after you attempt these until you click anywhere in Lix again.
Steps to reproduce:
  • Open Lix (0.10.29)
  • Attempt to use the Alt+Tab switcher and/or press the Windows key
  • The Alt+Tab switcher will look as if it is working, but nothing will happen and Lix will stay focused and full screened on your monitor. For the Windows key, nothing will happen
  • Your operating system mouse is shown until you click on LIx
Screenshots/Recordings: None right now
Expected behaviour: The Alt+Tab switch and/or the Windows key switches to the other applications I select and/or reveals the taskbar and lets me switch. As it did perfectly well in Lix 0.10.28.

Flopsy mentioned on Discord he was too busy to arrange a Lix session this month, so I decided to post a thread about one this month to get the ball rolling.

@Lix Just a heads up, I probably won't be able to arrange a Lix session this month but if anyone else wants to arrange one, feel free to. Sorry I'm extremely busy with IRL stuff at the moment 😦

Sure, I could post the thread for the session this month if you're too busy to do so.

I just want to see if anyone would still be interested. I'll put a poll for what date you'd prefer (you can vote for more than once if you don't mind either date).

Lix Main / MIDI music file support
December 20, 2024, 12:15:34 PM
Edit Simon: Split from Music in Lix?

Quote from: Simon on October 20, 2017, 08:04:49 AMMp3 won't be supported, it compresses worse than ogg and is patent-encumbered. Midi probably won't be supported because Allegro 5 doesn't offer easy access.
Seeing as you said mp3 definetly won't be supported, and now it is, is there any more updates on whether .midi, which was just probably not could be supported for a future version of Lix?

Lix Main / Does the server store levels?

    • Fix the symmetry in two-player Bunker Buster.
    [/list]

I thought you had the power as the owner of Lix to just automatically update them in the server? When you left and fixed it the other day, did you just update the local copy? Because if you did, I selected it over your version and again, so we might've still played the bugged version :-[

    1. Delete all music from the Lix directory except for the menu song
    2. Put an unsupported music file in Lix
    3. Put a supported music file in Lix
    4. Open Lix
    5. Load a level
    6. It will play music none of the times it's loaded (not just 50%)

Surely it should skip the unsupported music file, and just play the supported file, or at least play the music (on average) 50% of the time.

What is the best place to download tracker music and Amiga music for Lix?

On Lix you can't set an even menu colour, the arrows go up by two. I'm not sure if this intentional, or if you can change it from the options.dll, but I think it's only fair that you can change it to any colour from within Lix itself.

and in-follow up, why can't you just type in a hexadecimal code manualy?

when you change the menu colour for the first time the graphics go messed up e.g. buttons being different colours, random chunks of different colours, etc.

Lix Main / Lix title character length limit
    December 03, 2024, 12:47:27 AM
    Lix Version: Lix 0.10.27
Operating System Version: Windows 10 LTSC 2021 64-bit English-United Kingdom, Version 21H2 OS Build 19044.5131
Description: When I attempt to title a Lix level (or the filename through Lix) there is a character length limit. This is too small to put everything I need in the title, and I could just manually edit in a file browser for the filename, or text editor for the title anyways.
    Steps to reproduce:
    • Open Lix
    • Create a new level
    • Attempt to name it more than whatever the current limit is

    Screenshots/Recordings: None
Expected behaviour: No limit and we can create titles (or filenames through Lix) as long as we'd like

Operating System Version: Windows 10 LTSC 2021 64-bit English-United Kingdom, Version 21H2 OS Build 19044.5131

    Steps to reproduce:
    • Open Lix
    • Open Single Player
    • Locate the levels
    • Play them

    Screenshots/Recordings:
Expected behaviour: The level opens in solobattle mode, as it is multiplayer
