NeoLemmix Styles / Re: Orig/OhNo-style styles
« on: April 23, 2024, 02:19:16 PM »
Just looked into the palettes for the original tilesets some more. I forgot to take into account that the original colours use 4096 colours. :forehead: This basically means that the RGB values of each colour are all divisible by 16.

So now I need to go through and modify the colours of all the terrain pieces and objects to convert them into 4096 colours. :forehead::forehead::forehead:

I think a really good beach/tropical theme could be good, but it's difficult to come up with abstract shapes. The tendency is to go full palm trees and beach balls!

I did think about a beach themed style, or possibly a desert/sandy themed one. I'll workshop it.

Looks GOOD!

Your style looks fantastic, there is a lot of detail and a very clear theme.

Thank you so much!

I don't really know why it seems to be a bit more "high res" than the original tilesets. This may be due to the gradient effect on some elements?

However, I wouldn't necessarily consider it to be in the same visual style of the orig and ohno tiles; it's much more detailed and almost seems higher resolution, which I imagine was no easy task with the aforementioned colour limitations.

It looks high-res because this particular tileset is heavily inspired by the 'crystal' world, in the sense that it's mainly all one colour, which allows for much more depth in terms of gradients. The other styles I'm working on won't be as high-res, since I'm using more varied colours in the palette which will mean the gradients won't be as deep.

What other style are you working on? :D

The other styles are still very early in development. Currently, I'm working on white-marble style castle/palace, similar to the original marble/pillar styles but with a much different palette.

I also have plans for a more naturalistic type of style, similar to orig-dirt, except with a blue/yellowish colourscheme with red leaves (think autumnal).

The other styles are still in the 'ideas' phase of development - I haven't fully decided what I want for those styles, or what colour palette to use for them. Any suggestions would be welcome! ;)

Which of the custom style sets are closest in character and quality to the orig and ohno styles? Those have a very specific vibe to them which is difficult to replicate, it would be good to see some other styles which aim for a similar aesthetic.

It's a funny coincidence that you should mention this, as I've recently started to create a new style pack that aims to mimic the style of the original/ohno aesthetics.

From what I'm able to understand, each of the orginal/ohno worlds have a palette of 8 colours max, as well as several (6?) 'default' colours. These default colours seem to be constant across all worlds and are used for things like lemmings and the HUD.

With this in mind, I've started working on several styles that follow this guideline - no more than 8 unique colours maximum, in addition to the 6 default colours.

Here's a sneak peak:

Hi Dexter,

I have resolved your level Cause and Infect. I was able to do it with a much smaller chain, but I'm guessing it's still fine since the core idea of the intended solution is still there. Maybe that's why the timing in my solution is tighter than it needs to be ???

Hi Kaywhyn!

That is indeed a perfectly acceptable solution, great job!

Thanks! This pack took a long time to make, and was definitely a passion project, for both me and my brother. :D

Hi Dexter,

I have solved your level "Cause and Infect." Replay attached. Very different from the intended solution, though :P Still, this is a pretty clever level! ;)

Woah, nice solution! I should've known better than to underestimate you!

Attached is the updated level, intended solution is the same.

Hi guys,

I had an idea for a level which I thought was pretty fun, so I made a proof-of-concept level.

It's not intended to be overly challenging, but it's a concept I've not seen explored before.

I don't think there are any backroutes, but you guys are very good at finding them! :P

Attached is the level and solution.
Requirements - neolemmix and it uses the 'gear' style and music from my lemrunner pack.

Hope you enjoy it!

Hi IchoTolot,

The lemrunner styles have all already been updated to use the paint object where applicable. In particular, the mona_wink object should already be set to paint.
Please confirm that you have the latest version of the style packs and let me know if there are any issues.

Here's version 5.3. It's just another slight change to the Specialist.
The intended solution (and replay file) remains unchanged.

This level really is becoming an arms race, huh!

Hi all!

We're here to offer up some levels to the Community Lemmings pack, featuring levels from our LemRunner pack.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ebeew0ffnkb6u1/LemRunnerCommunity.zip?dl=1

Included are all of the following levels (and their corresponding replays), made by myself and my brother, tan x dx:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All of these levels use the LemRunner style packs, which can be found at https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=5535.0
(Make sure you have the most up to date version!)

All levels here are the same as they were in the LemRunner pack, with the exception of Riddle of the Ancients, Lem Ninja, and Pixel Imperfect. (These levels have been modified to remove their postview text, which would be out of context in the community pack; the actual solutions are unchanged).

Also included in the zip file are the ambient music tracks featured in LemRunner. However, I do not know whether or not the ambient background tracks would feel too out-of-place in the community pack - feel free to substitute in any musical tracks which you feel would work better. There's 10 tracks in total, however half could easily be removed since they're essentially variations of each other.

Version 5.2 has been released. This is a very small patch, fixing an issue with the teleporters, check OP for details.

Version 5.2 has been released!
This is just a minor update, fixing a few issues with the industry world; make sure you also have the correct style version.

Hi IchoTolot!

We've released version 5.1 in response to your replays. It's only a minor patch, here's the changelog:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The level "Entrapment" has not been modified, despite the backroute. This is because I feel the backroute may be impossible to fix. The intended solution seems easier to pull off, so I don't really mind all that much.

All of your other solutions are intended, great work!

Additionally, my brother and I have been discussing levels to include with the community pack, and we've compiled a list of levels which we feel stand out above the rest:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Do you agree with our selection? Are there levels you feel are missing from this list? We're also aware that we might have selected too many to be included. Is there a limit for level contributions?
