More of a "what games HAVE I played recently" thing:

https://coinplay.io/bundle/weekend-4

5 games for a literal dollar. Two of these (Nihilumbra and Back to Bed) are games I've heard are quite good, so much that I've purchased both, independently, for about 3 bundles worth of money, on sale.

One of the others is the game I literally have the most playtime of all the game I have on Steam for. It's a pretty great game, about permuting. I'll buy this package for literally anyone on this board who wants it. If only for Great Permutator. Oh and I GUESS those other 4 games, 2 of which I think are probably also reallllly good.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Re: What video game(s) are you playing at the moment?
« on: September 23, 2015, 01:30:52 AM »
Undertale.

It's technically an RPG, but there's very little grinding (unless you want to) and battles play more like a avoidance game/shoot 'em up than an actual turn based RPG. The major selling point of this game is that you can defeat enemies without killing them (but you can kill them if you want), so the menu parts of a fight if you go that route are more puzzle-like than RPG-like.

The story is also pretty amazing, there's some great characterization and the writing is charming and pretty funny at times. There's also a small mechanic in the game that can be a bit of a mindscrew but YOU CAN PET MULTIPLE DOGS THAT'S COOL RIGHT

But yea. Very highly recommended, even if RPGs aren't really your thing.

Lix Main / Re: Usability: What to test with newbies?
« on: September 13, 2015, 05:13:06 AM »
We've talked about making a dedicated directory of easy multiplayer levels, that's still on the agenda. New players run the risk of choosing any map, then be overwhelmed by failing to build their own route in the first place.

-- Simon

So, maps designed with new players in mind for multiplayer. Important things to consider:

1) New players are not as likely to know how overpowered blockers and the like can be. New players will have a lot harder time using other skills to turn or deflect Lix in maps where alternative methods are required. Skills that are usually avoided in levels made for expert players are needed for accessible levels.
2) Maps designed by and for expert players are fairly complicated. Simple maps for newer players are usually better. Balancing becomes less of an issue on these maps. Consider fewer wrappings, more open skillsets, etc.
3) Consider what levels might have been fun in multiplayer L1 in these designs. These levels were not made for experts, but for a couple friends playing together at home.
4) Difficulty ratings for multiplayer maps. It's a bit condescending for accessible maps to be called "Easy" as a rating and stuff. Multiplayer maps might be best rated in difficulty like single player levels. I propose a lot less flair in these ratings tiers' names (Something like Standard/Veteran/Pro/Extreme, where the easiest rating is considered the benchmark for play and not "baby mode"). In conjunction with 1), "repeat" levels can be made in harder skillsets without skills that can be very important crutches to a less experienced player but become really level-breaking to experts.

Levels for v10 or older / Re: Revenge of the Lemmings 2.0!
« on: July 23, 2015, 05:08:36 AM »
Downloaded this. I breezed through this pack with the cheats to see what it had, and from what I see, I much like this pack and its ordering and the replacing of levels a lot more than the first version.

There is a problem I have, though -- (at least) 2 levels, Pain 9 and Carnage 20, give me a non-English crash error and close the program when the game tries to retrieve the level.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Re: Nintendo loses a CEO, Iwata Dies at age 55
« on: July 14, 2015, 04:13:00 AM »
I've always been a Nintendo kid. My first console was the NES, well before Iwata became affiliated with Nintendo, but since he worked for HAL before then, he was a producer for one of my favorite childhood games, Kirby's Dream Course.

I kind of became disengaged with Nintendo (well, any consoles really) after the Wii, but he was certainly integral to keeping Nintendo alive during the time where raw processing/graphical power was what console games were looking for. 55 is too young to die. RIP.

EDIT: Iwata died on the 11th, not the 13th, as an update to your first post.

Bumping this because the old link doesn't work anymore.

Here is the live Taxing runthrough.

Here is the first time Arino plays Lemmings, on the Tricky rating. Unfortunately, though, this is one of the few episodes without English subtitles.

Lix Levels / Re: Lix Community Level Set - First complete Beta!
« on: June 25, 2015, 02:56:00 AM »
I've gotten to work writing hints. I do want hints for all the levels I have in this set, even the early Simple ones.

EDIT: And, on working on the hints, I want a 59 second time limit for Just Stop the Bleeding. (This is definitely not an increase in challenge, but one in aesthetic. Probably harder to find a working solution that times out, than one that doesn't. really.)

Live Event Scheduling / Re: Livestream thread

Here's the 2nd video.

Much better video quality, but there's a lot of hiccups with the tech. Learning results in better videos in the future!

Yea, that's a plan. Today was mainly me setting stuff up and actually figuring out what sites are best (I don't have an amazing rig, but it's good enough), I'm thinking Hitbox for now.

I got about a half hour of Antichamber footage for Youtube but the voiceover is mostly me and Simon trying to optimize the streaming. Will still post it, though.

Ok, I'm setting this up right now, going to run Antichamber for a while and then see what else I have going.

(EDIT: Twitch is slow and didn't work for some reason, going to try somewhere else, Hitbox maybe)

I'm planning to stream something today, and also possibly Sunday. Probably Antichamber again but if anyone has recommendations let me know.

Also if anyone else on these boards is planning to stream today, you can bump this thread to announce this. I'm not sure if anyone else on this board streams, so yea.

EDIT: Today's stream probably won't start for about 3 or so hours, I have a couple errands to run first.

Just found a relatively new game on Steam called Snakebird. Charming graphics, but REALLY hard. If you like really difficult puzzle games, I definitely recommend it.

If you're going to not be a purist here, change the skillset to something that actually forces the use of blockers, like n/n/n, where "n" is 1 fewer than the minimum number of bombers needed in a blockerless solve. Especially considering any blockerless solve for this level is way too easy for Mayhem 26 with timerless bombers.

Although I don't then know if there's a builder shortage. Huh.

General Discussion / Re: Television
« on: March 19, 2015, 02:58:04 PM »
I use a Roku player, and most of what I watch is Youtube videos. I used to like mainstream TV a lot more but it's kind of turned pointless nowadays, though I still have a Hulu subscription (don't know of anything to watch right now, though).
