Let's celebrate another year of Lemmings Forums with a UK meetup! :lemcat:

Anybody is welcome to attend. We just need to set a date (I'd suggest sometime late July / early August) and a place to meet.

Suggested weekend dates: July 18th/19th - July 25th/26th - August 1st/2nd - August 8th/9th

Suggested weekday dates: July 23rd/24th - July 30th/31st - August 6th/7th - August 13th/14th

Suggested locations: Leeds - Blackpool - Whitby - Liverpool

Suggestions for alternative dates/locations are more than welcome at this point, this post is really to gauge interest and get an idea of numbers.

I'm obviously up for this  I've always enjoyed the meet ups, problem with me though is my availability won't be great.

Out of the dates suggested I'm available on Sun 19th, Thurs 23rd, Fri 31st July, Sat 1st, Sun 2nd, Thurs 13th, Fri 14th August.

If later in August could be considered, I'm free both all weekend 15th/16th August as well as Sat 22nd August as I'm off work entirely those weeks.

Past meetups have typically been on Saturday and I'm guessing that will most likely be the popular choice meaning August will be best for me in that case (1st, 15th, 22nd). If worst comes to worst, I can always book time off to attend if other days are preferred.

With regards to location, I'm happy meeting up in Leeds again if others prefer that. I can make it to all the locations since I drive although Blackpool will be furthest from me (3 hours drive). Whitby is closest to Leeds and is by the sea, that one is most likely the best alternative for me.

(snip)

Be nice to see if we can get more people involved in this, these meet ups have always been a blast  :lem-mindblown:

I'm up for it just like the meetups from 2023 and 2024. Leeds is the easiest location for me to meetup. I don't have any preference on which day right now.

For Leeds, I can take a train like the last two times.

Hey
Can I get a lift to the meet-up this summer? I met up with 2 lemmings forum members in Germany (Simon and Forestidia) 8 years ago in 2018.
Let me know on here.

A meetup sounds great, I'm in!

I'm flexible with dates and locations. I'm happy with whatever works best for everybody else.

I'd love to come :) in June my availability isn't great but I'm free most of July. I won't be around 22-28th August tho

I apologize I was not thinking clearly (my mum went to sleep and did not wake up, I was and still am in shock not thinking clearly). I respect your wishes I won't go.

Just giving this a bump. It's looking like August 13th/14th are good dates so far.

Leeds is our usual meetup place, we tend to do OK with that. Liverpool is probably my favourite city in England, so I can recommend that highly if people want to try somewhere new. Plenty of good places to eat, lots to do, sights to see, etc.

Post if you're interested in coming along, let us know if August 13th/14 works for you.

I have nothing planned for either 13th or 14th (despite being a weekday) so I should be fine.  :)

Leeds is easy for me but Liverpool is not an impossibility (Just harder and more expensive).

For Leeds, a single day visit is okay for me.

Liverpool on the other hand, I am considering an option open for a two-day visit (both 13th and 14th) for extra time, booking a night at a Premier Inn as it's further away for me and what Will has claimed, has more things to do. I'll scrap that option if it's too expensive for most of you or if there are any other complications. I don't have an issue going to Liverpool just for the one day but I must be back at the station by 8pm to get home (Unlike Will and Flopsy, I don't drive and I'll get stuck pass a time where there are no buses running).

For Leeds, I'll get a train from Rotherham Central Station like usual. For Liverpool I would need to get a train from either Meadowhall or Sheffield instead at about 8am or 9am depending on when we are going to meet up.

So. It all depends on whether people prefer to go to Leeds (For a more simple meetup) or Liverpool (For a more grand but more complex meetup) and what ideas they have in mind.

I'll still suggest Leeds like usual as ∫tan x dx already lives there and it's familiar to us.

13/14th August is still available for me, I'm off work that week anyway so it would be an ideal time for me.

I'm open to both suggestions as well, as always I drive to the meet ups anyway and the biggest obstacle for me is finding somewhere to park. Parking is expensive in Leeds and I expect it would be expensive in Liverpool as well but if I were to book into a hotel if we met up in Liverpool, the parking has a chance to be included in the price so it would be a nice saving.

Option 1 - the safe option: We've done Leeds twice now and it is a nice city to meet up in but it feels like we've done it now after 2 meet ups there, although it's familiar so it's ideal for those who would rather have it being a more predictable day.

Option 2 - the new idea: I've never been to Liverpool and it would be quite a journey for me so maybe 2 days is a good call there.

I don't mind giving you a lift up to Liverpool and back if you'd rather save on the train fare plus there would be no time pressure there, you're pretty much on the way for me anyway. It's upto you ultimately, if you'd rather get the train, that is also fine :)
Chances are I'd probably book into the same hotel as you also if this were the plan ultimately so it would also help you get to the hotel from the train station.

Another plus is Pooty lives in Liverpool and would not have to travel far to the meet up at all, he would also know the city pretty well hopefully and be able to advise if necessary.

I'm just brainstorming out loud anyway and I don't mind what option we go with ultimately, just want everyone to be happy at the end of the day :)

Unfortunately most hotels near the city centre don't seem to have free parking included with the stay. Only the ones further away seem to have it. I am willing to compromise for your sake. From my research into the matter, the "Premier Inn Liverpool (Tarbock)" hotel is only a 30 minute drive from the city centre (Or an approximate 1 hour bus trip), has free parking, the price for a night doesn't seem too bad (right now) and it's near an ALDI. That seems to remove a chunk off your parking expenses.

I appreciate the offer. I'll need to wait whether we are actually going to Liverpool and if so, I'll consider your offer. I don't mind taking the train to Liverpool if it's too much of an inconvenience for you. We need to ultimately decide whether we are going to Liverpool before the hotel booking prices become too expensive (As they tend to increase as they get closer to the date).
