Hi everyone, I enjoyed lemmings as a child very much and recently found a way to download it to Windows 11. I have been playing it a lot over the last few days and have got through most of the levels fine. However I am completely stuck on Taxing 26 ('Triple Trouble'). I have watched lots of tutorials on youtube on how to do it, but I can't solve it at all despite trying loads of different methods. The highest number of lemmings I've managed to save is 66% a few times. Would anyone be able to give me any suggestions as it's driving me absolutely insane :)

edit: Added Win95 to the topic title for clarification

Hi @hrb264, welcome to the Forums! Indeed, why Taxing 26 isn't in the Mayhem rank is anyone's guess. What port are you playing the game on? Dos? Genesis/Megadrive? Win95? etc.

I downloaded it from 'myabandonware'. It's the Windows 95 version i think

Any screenshots/pics of your game while you're in a level you can attach?

Yeah, the one on MyAbandonware is Winlemm '95. The physics are notoriously wonky on that version, although it is just about playable.

Which part of the level are you stuck on, exactly?

Basically, all of it. My reaction times aren't very good even though I'm pausing and unpausing it constantly. I always seem to be left with the wrong number of builders and yeah the cursor seems very imprecise when I click on a lemming and it often gets the wrong one. I'll see if I can get some screenshots.

Unfortunately I can't see an option in the post to add an attachment, do I need to upload it and share it as a link?

That's one way to do it. At the bottom after you click "reply," it says "click or drag files here to attach them." You should be able to put screenshots after saving the images/print screen. At the top of the image in the attachments section, there's an arrow next to the red x you can click on to insert and attach it to the post.

oops I see it now. Thanks very much!! Basically i always seem to end up with this sort of scenario. :(

Ah, it is indeed the Win95 version. I grew up with and played the Dos version, and so I wouldn't know as much about the physics differences on the Win95 version. On some ports, you only get 10 builders, like on Dos, whereas on others you get 12 builders. I believe I've always used the builders only for the bottom entrances. Also, I use the extra height on the structures in order to connect to the floating platform in the middle more easily. That should help a lot here. In other words, you just need to dig with the top entrance to rescue them and then you can simply ignore it for the rest of the level afterwards.

hrb264

Yeah i keep running out even with 12 builders and the lemming keeps hitting its head on the left and I end up using up all my builders because of this :(

kaywhyn

Ah, sounds like the builder checks are far less forgiving on the Win95 port than on others. I'll leave it to WillLem and anyone else who has played the Win95 version to help you out here then.

hrb264

Like I keep ending up with a situation like these lol

Here's a video solution, saving the required 98% in Winlemm (and with 4 Builders to spare!).

The main keys to executing the 98% solution are:
Spoiler
1) Have the left-side worker lemming start building as soon as they have finished climbing to the top of the steel block. Spam-click this lemming as they're climbing up if you have to!
2) Make use of Blockers at the top of the level, and rescue them later by removing the terrain from under their feet. This should be relatively straightfoward as there are plenty of destruction skills, and you can use the left/right arrow keys to make sure you're selecting lemmings facing the correct direction.

And, it's also possible to save 100%:
100% solution
With more precise timing of the Miner & Builder on the left-hand side of the exit, it's possible to have the Miner walk out onto the Builder's completed bridge. This takes a lot of practice on Lemmings ports without player assists (such as Winlemm).

Here's a pause-free playthrough of a 100% solution on an Amiga emulator, complete with a full strategy breakdown. The Amiga physics are more or less the same as Winlemm, but the collision checks can be a bit more forgiving.

Best of luck with it! You've almost made it to the Mayhem levels, keep up the good work!

Ok, I took a look and tried it myself and it didn't give me as much problems as I thought it would. Here's a screenshot of my solution and how I used 10 of the builders.
