Your machine
« on: December 02, 2004, 11:32:49 PM »
Guess what! I've just got a new laptop! It has 512MB ram, 40GB hard drive and 1.5GHz, as well as a DVD/CD rewriter, 15.4" widescreen display, and wi-fi. My dad's a little miffed since it came to a bit more dosh than he expected, but I'm paying over half so it's okay.

So, what machine are you on? Got anything new that we don't know about?

Cool.

I think my computer [which is most certainly not a laptop] is basically the same as when I last said.
Let's see. I've got two disks; my 40GB C drive, and my 20GB D drive.
Which, due to installing various new and large games, are both nearly full.  O_O
No more ram [as in, I've still got 512]. I have a read/writable CD drive that I don't use very often, and another one I usually use. And I have the same old trackball, same old keyboard, same old cobbled-together speakers, and the same old monitor [which I hate].
I've got the same motherboard... same ancient soundcard [for playing old DOS games], and a newer graphics card. I don't recall exactly what it is, but it's some kind of NVidia thing. I've had that since I started playing Tron 2.0, though.
I haven't got a joystick any longer. I finally ditched the thing.
I think that's about it, really... oh, and I've got a floppy drive, too. But that's been there for many years. And not likely to change, either. :P

My system at my mom's...*sigh*-

RAM:not enough
ABILITY TO DO ANYTHING: not enough
MONITOR: View sonic (best monitor in the world)
SOUND CARD: Somehow able to function
MHz: ?
MOUSE: Laser B)
SPEAKERS: awesome
GRAPHICS CARD: ... do not even SPEAK to me about this
FLOPPY: broke for 4 years and gaining
CD DRIVES: 1.  "Ghost CD Drive" (pops open and shut on its own!!!)
C DRIVE: 6 Gigs   O_O :'( X_X
OS: Win 98
OVERALL:Not the best package, but it suits my needs...mostly

*NOTE: This computer is on the very edge, and I mean the VERY edge of being too old to run the newest games (Rome Total War doesn't work on it, only on 98 SE, RRT 3 doesn't either.  Warcraft III screws up.)

My system at dad's-

RAM:128 Mb
ABILITY TO DO ANYTHING: fairly high
MONITOR: unknown, but good enough for me.
SOUND CARD: Functions
MHz: ?
MOUSE: Ball mouse
SPEAKERS: fair
GRAPHICS CARD: Able to run Crusader!
FLOPPY: functions
CD DRIVES: 1
C DRIVE: 12 Gigs
OS: Win 98
OVERALL:Hm...'tis alright

*NOTE-My computer at dad's is better, because it's flexible enough to run the newest games, and the oldest (it can run castles II, and that's a pretty finickey old DOS game:  It only gives three sound driver options, and you HAVE to have one of them, or the game doesn't run(An absolutely EXCELLENT game, though!)).

SUMMARY-Things are alright.

I have 4 computers, three of which are usable.

#1 "Shiny Black" -The Main Computer

It's about 1 1/2 years old. Excellent thing.

Pentium 4 , 3.06 Ghz
512 MB RAM
200 GB Hard Drive

Logitech Attack 3 Joystick
Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150
DSL Internet Connection (dunno how fast)

... I think that's all.

#2 "Ancient" -Secondary computer

This thing's been updated to the max. Otherwise, I wouldn't even touch it! Its power supply is about to hit the dust though.

Gateway G6450
Crappy Fat Monitor- Unknown size
Pentium II, 450 mhz
320 MB RAM
Drive C, 12GB
Drive D, 40GB (32MB for Windows, the rest for Linux)

Windows 98 First Edition
Red Hat Linux 9
Radeon 7500 Card
Sound Card Unknown- Sound Blaster Compatible
Crappy ProPad 6 Game Pad (It won't calibrate right)
Used to have a 56k connection-- my parent refuse to add the machine into a network.

#3 "How old is this?" -Brother's Vintage PC

Great for DOS games! Hard Drive is full.

Packard Bell Legend somethingCD

My computer at my mom's,

built from scratch

Cd drive makes loud buzzing and whirring noise whenever the computer is on.

it has 6 gigs. 4 are occupied i think. &#A0;

monitor, recently improved
speakers:none
age: it still runs dos with no problems and can't run some of the newer games.

computer at dad's:

E-machine

internet:none
sound card:none
speakers:none
memory: 12-14 gigs, not sure.
free memory:4 gigs X_X
monitor,.(average) pretty good monitor if you ask me
about this big |- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| times a bunch

My Dad had to completely rebuild my computer because once, I totally crashed the entire system. He decided a sound card wasn't really needed and kind ade things more complicated, so he didn't put one in. :P :D. Both of my computers run dos and can't play some new games.

You say your computer at your mom's makes whirring and buzzing when turned on? I have that problem too, and it means your power supply is near the end of its life. (At least that's the answer I've got a support boards!)
