Ultimate Lemmings 1.8 is out!

A small Mac polish release, which should fix Intel macs not being able to start it and also:
  • Sharper pixels across gameplay, controls, previews and movies.
  • NeoLemmix now has core gameplay sound effects.
  • The funeral dirge reliably spins back up after the last nuke explosion—even when nobody survives.
  • Lemmings 3 Brick pickups now provide eight uses.

L2/L3 completion moves to 1.9; both remain Preview. NeoLemmix remains Beta.

Use Check for Updates, or download 1.8 here.

1.8.1 anchors the HD effects so nukes stay in place when the camera moves, NeoLemmix now plays SFX and has the correct keymapping for rate including double tap to min/max (-/=). Pixels now stay sharp in any view or zoom. And the speedup of the music after the nuke now has the correct comedic timing. More fixes for Lemmings 3 completion ability towards its 1.9 milestone target.

  • A refined 294-level journey: Going their separate ways and All the 6s included, Cellbash moved earlier, and two gimmick levels replaced. Fan lessons are bundled for offline play.
  • Better rescue targets for stars and philosophy assessments, plus optional anonymous worldwide rescue totals.
  • Fixes for progression, saved-run resume, tall-level scrolling and Escape navigation.
  • Replay SFX, reversed and limited rewind sounds, smoother music transitions, corrected snowman artwork and scrollable release notes.

honestly i really wonder where did you got the macintosh styles ??? ?

(its beacuse i want to use them in neolemmix)

spaceagemeats

truly awesome work! thank you, again, for doing this and continuing to improve the experience.

btw, for whatever reason, the in-app update feature is very hit and miss for me. i suspect its because sometimes I click the download icon, thinking it will do something. after which when I click "Check for Update" from the menu bar... nothing happens. restarting the game fixes the issue (if I go straight to "Check for Update" from the menu bar.)

They were extracted from the Macintosh ports Lemmings, Oh No! More Lemmings, and the four Holiday/Xmas Lemmings.

I would love for you to backport them to NeoLemmix. Already looks great with NeoLemmix levels (though unmatching assets still use the 1x graphics it still looks great), so I have packaged them up for you: Macintosh Graphics

Ultimate Lemmings 1.9.1 — The Tribes and hotfixes

1.9.1 is out! Here's what's changed since 1.8.3, including the 1.8.4, 1.8.5 and 1.9 updates.

1.9.1 hotfixes
  • Wall-facing targeting. Favor lemmings still approaching now uses nearby walls to favour lemmings facing into the work. This fixes crowded-wall Basher selection. Classic also refreshes the hovered target when a lemming turns. The shared correction covers Classic, NeoLemmix and both sequels.
  • Clear targeting grouping. All three targeting preferences share one outlined group in Gameplay settings.
  • Flat Panel settings. Tube Strength and Pixel Width are greyed out for Flat Panel. Monitor and Television enable them again and retain your saved values.
  • Nuke music. The funeral slowdown starts at the 2→1 countdown. Screen saturation changes only when rescue becomes impossible. Music returns to normal over 2.4 seconds after the last explosion. This covers Classic, NeoLemmix and The Tribes. Chronicles has no mass-nuke action.

The sequels
  • Lemmings 2: The Tribes is complete and out of beta. All 120 levels have recorded winning routes, with continuous ten-level runs through all twelve tribes and verified survivor carry-over. This includes more climbing, stone-collision and runtime fixes.
  • Lemmings 3: Chronicles moves from Preview to Beta. There are verified standalone wins for 74 of its 90 levels. Work continues on the remaining routes, campaign and endings.

More of the original Macintosh feel
  • Choose Macintosh (original) in Audio for 31 arrangements using the game's original sampled instruments: 21 Classic, six Oh No! and four Xmas tunes.
  • Release-rate changes play the original MousePress sound, with pitch changing as you adjust the rate.
  • Choose Original Macintosh under Graphics → Counters for the original skill-counter digits. Music and counters can be chosen independently of terrain artwork.

Finding levels and keeping your progress
  • Favourites let you bookmark levels from Level Select or the results screen. Recently Played keeps your last 50 distinct levels, newest first. Both live in Collections and are saved per profile, including Hot Seat, across Classic, fan packs, NeoLemmix and both sequels.
  • Hot Seat's Resume button shows every participating player's initials in turn order.
  • Journey wins save as soon as you complete the level, before you click Next level.
  • A visible Menu action, Q and Escape return to the library with your saved run. Classic, Lemmings 2 and Lemmings 3 share these controls.

The Joy Update's sound and music improvements
  • Every rescue gets a cheer, including crowded exits. The Tribes adds rescue, trampoline and trap feedback; Chronicles adds sounds for pickups, projectiles, explosions, building, steel, water and traps.
  • Personal bests and newly earned rare awards get a small result flourish. Fresh starts and retries play Ready after the countdown; Hot Seat handovers wait for the next player's Ready.
  • Distinct timer and builder warnings, plus a short cue for rejected skill assignments.
  • Adaptive DJ can lift your winning theme to an installed composer recording or remix of the same tune, then keep it playing through the results screen.
  • Better recorded-soundtrack volume balance and source-verified loops. Holding fast-forward smoothly bends the music's pitch; releasing it restores your previous cruising speed.
  • Result sounds respect effects volume and mute, and stop when the game loses focus. Music-source changes preserve pauses and journey or shuffled playback continuity.

The download icon and Check for Updates now share a recoverable flow after repeated clicks, cancellation or a busy update, so you can retry without restarting.

Intel and Apple silicon, macOS 12.3+. NeoLemmix remains Beta. Original-engine fidelity and sequel ending checks continue.

Download 1.9.1 and read the release notes

For a fresh install, choose the slim download; it includes the original Mac music and essential soundtracks. Existing players can use Check for Updates.

Thanks for the reports and feedback — they helped shape this update!

Okay so I have never played Lemmings 3 The Chronicles before this port. And I am absolutely baffled by the UI. How am I meant to know that THIS is jump?

Apologies, I made that link private on GitHub instead of a secret, but public link. This one should hopefully work.

This one is "sufficiently advanced" by now @namida, would it be possible to get a separate board by any chance?
