Dosbox question
« on: October 02, 2005, 09:46:57 PM »
I just now tried dosbox, and it actually works! B)

However, when I turn up the number of cycles too high, while it makes the game run a lot better, the sound stops working.

Any ideas? :mikehuh:

Unfortunately, it's a known bug in current version of DOSBox, sound no longer works when you raise the cycles too high.

What's your machine's specs?  I generally don't find it necessary to raise the cycle at all, the game works fine at the default, although levels with many interactive objects does take slightly longer to load.

If it's still too slow on your computer you can try increasing the frame skip, although that does make the animation more jerky since DOSBox isn't updating the screen as frequently as it needs to.

I have a really new laptop (about 2 months old) with Windows XP.
I don't technically need the cycles to be higher. It just makes all the loading a lot faster.

Another question:):
The sound works generally well (when the cycles are low enough), but it makes a little skip every few seconds. I tried messing with the sound options, and I lowered the frequency of the skips, but they still happen every once in a while. :-/

I'm not sure exactly why the sound skips, but one interesting thing is that if you record the sound to a .wav file, the .wav file doesn't have the skips...

Well... don't play with the cycles just for the loading to be faster. Just be patient a little bit!

Generally, setting the cycles to 3000 would be perfect!
