Music from Copycat Lemmings (Peter Spada's version)
« on: November 14, 2013, 07:28:49 AM »
Hello there everyone!

I just found my way to these forums for the first time, being a long time Lemmings fan it's really nice to see a forum that's actually have some posts every months since I thought I was the only fan left.

Anyway, while being a kid I played Peter Spada's Lemmings version quite a lot but didn't realize at that time that almost all of the songs in the game was covers on real songs. So now I'm wondering if there is some kind of list where I can see which songs the songs from the game are based on. Basically I'm really interested in the levels 1 and 9 on the difficulty Fun.

Also, is there anywhere where you can download the songs legal? (if not, just skip this question, don't want to get into trouble! :) )

Well, I'm not sure exactly what the songs are.
I know Vitamin C - "Friends Forever" (or maybe a song that really sounds like it) is in there, one track is from Barenaked Ladies (level 12 I believe), a couple are Spice Girls (those should be very recognizable =P), and two others that I have no doubts about (okay, that was horrible) are "Don't Speak" by No Doubt (level 13) and "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum (don't remember what level number, but it's definitely in there).

I know that in the sequel game (Cheapo Copycat Lemmings Game, we usually just refer to it as "Cheapo" around here), you can extract the midis by, while they're playing, use the Windows key to switch to another window without closing Cheapo, and in the cheapo folder, there'll be a tempmidi.mid file - which will be whatever song is currently playing. Some of these midis, if you open them in a midi editor, it'll have info on what song it is. (EDIT: This trick works in the level editor, too, not just the main game.)

I also remember hearing - BUT I could very well be wrong on this - that the title screen music is an original composition.

By the way - is your username a reference to Tidus from FFX, by any chance?

one is "Creep" by Stone Temple Pilots. some sound like they are from other video games.

I had all the songs saved on my PC, by doing what namida just said and could've given them to you... three weeks ago, before my PC s%$# the bed.  ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley" />

...you could wait for me to do that again, because I probably will, I like the songs as well  :) They sound surprisingly well in this format

I do recognise a few more, such as "Birdhouse in your Soul" by TMBG (5th) and "Nightswimming" by REM (15th).

Well, I'm not sure exactly what the songs are.
I know Vitamin C - "Friends Forever" (or maybe a song that really sounds like it) is in there.

The 14th one (which is talked about in the quote) is actually an instrumental version of Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger", and has a very similar chord pattern to the "Lemmings' Canon" as I call it, except in the last four beats the chords are "I . VI V". There are quite a few interesting instrumental pieces in their selection, with most of them being alternative rock.

I wasn't saying any *specific* track was that, just that it's in there somewhere.

So now I'm wondering if there is some kind of list where I can see which songs the songs from the game are based on.

Well I happened to see this thread pretty late, but it's not ancient. I wrote that game a long time ago and I have all the MIDI files. I don't see a way to attach a zip file to this reply or I would. This should be good enough though, here's a list of the songs and YouTube links to the real song. I didn't make any of those MIDIs, I just found them somewhere and lost any credit information.

Essman, there should be "attachments and other options" right underneath the blue text post box. If it's not there then maybe there is a restriction for new members or something?  :-\

I'd love to have all the midi files  :)

oh and yeah, thanx for making this game, even if it's "obsolete", I still play it once and a while.

Oh duh now I see it, thanks. I was looking in the toolbar before.
Check out the attached zip file for the midis and song names. Obviously my favorite band is TMBG.

Sorry for the late follow up to my own thread!

Thanks to everyone that replied, these forums are amazingly dedicated and I love that! I managed to find most of the songs I wanted from the first tips & tricks in this thread, but they Essman came along and turned on easy mode for which I'm really grateful for. And thanks for all the midis as well! :)
