Worst game ever?
« on: June 09, 2009, 05:46:55 AM »
And, no, I do not mean statistically.  I mean by your experience.  ET is not the worst game we have ever played by those of us who have not played it.

From what I've played, I'll be willing to say that well, erm...  tough choice...

Elmo's Letter Adventure (though I loved it, like, when?  When I was three?)

Crash Bandicoot stood out to me as being annoyingly unfun. I'm sure I've played crappier games, but at least those were fun at the time.

I like Crash. It was like Super Mario going forwards. ... Still, Mario went out in every direction at that time so meh, win for Mario.

Game I consider to be the worst? Probably a tie between Cheesy on the PSone and Bubsy on the SNES. The problem I have with Cheesy is the confusing control scheme, and the problem with Bubsy is that enemies seem to pop out of nowhere thanks to the bizarre resolution choice of the graphics.

Crash Bandicoot is one of my favourites. :P

Worst? Hm... not sure. Pretty much any sports game I've touched.

I would have to agree with namida on the sports games being some of the worst. Except for some. Many of the Mario sports games, particularly Mario Power Tennis I have liked alot. Since wrestling can be considered a sport, Ive liked some of the WWE games as well.

Probably Space Ace for the SNES even though I enjoyed that game when I was younger but now that i'm older, I realized so many flaws it has.

This isn't the WORST game I've ever played, but I think Mario Kart Wii may manage to begin the end of the era of Mario Kart.  They managed to mess it up, and Nintendo doesn't seem to care that there are cheaters on online play.

I don't know about you, but I don't like doing online play against people who are too lazy to win through skill and not through their stupid cheat codes.  1 player games with cheats are one thing; online multiplayer with cheats is a whole different thing (if anyone doesn't think that cheats are making some people move at a noticeably faster pace than everyone else, please offer an explanation!).

People shouldn't play online if they can't win with skill alone. Nintendo doesn't care what you do online. They just want your money.

I know!  That's why Mr. K and I dumped Nintendo and he asked for an XBOX 360 for Christmas.  It's about 9,000 times better than the Wii, even though isn't it a Microsoft product?

I dunno, I like that Nintendo doesn't charge for online access to Wi-Fi Connection. The cheaters are annoying, and they're not patrolled as much as the other network, but I think that might just be because Nintendo products are traditionally those that you go for the first party titles rather than any other. The first party titles normally have engaging storylines, such that online play doesn't make sense.

Games that you play through and move on to the next are my favourites in that regard, and online games don't rank on that chart at all. I will add things like World of Warcraft therefore to my list of despised games.

This is true. My flatmate constantly talks about how he went up a level in the level of Eternal Servitude of the Master of Potato Peelings; how his Banana of Justice won't let him take his Wolf into the Fortress of Inconvenient Cheatcodes; how his experience points are depleting because when his character is revived from the grave, he only gets half of his Attack Points of Destiny ...

It all sounds like drivel to me, and I'm not one to accept <noun /> of the <adjective type="dramatic" /> <noun style="essence:abstract;"> written in pseudo-Gaelic as something worthy of my attention.

Now, you say to yourself, the idea of humanoid creatures falling out of a trapdoor to find a door which doesn't seem to go anywhere is even more absurd then having animals with magical powers with sentience enough to accomplish dangerous quests while flying on Gryffons competing or co-operating with/against people whose usernames reflect an unhealthy addiction to 4chan ... well, go stick it in your ear. :P

Truer.

People who love WoW seem to hate it when someone doesn't care, but then they don't care about what someone else is saying.  By golly, if you can talk about WoW to me I should be able to talk to you about SPORE or my computer problems!  I tried to do a comeback by talking about SPORE or complaining about Windows/Microsoft/IE, and he was not happy about it.  Into the pile of "comebacks that suck."

I can tell the worst game ever. Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing back in 2003. It scored 1/10 on Gamespot and 8 out of 100 on Metacritic.

My worst video game that I've played was a skateboarding game for the dreamcast.
Speaking of dreamcast, that was a long time ago. :)

What, don't you get it?  If the arcade machine is broke, you can't play it, so therefore it basically sucked because it was unusable.

Actually, yes.  Though I seem to recall it actually being a pinball machine, but a broken arcade machine is just the same, I guess...  Or maybe it was just off, I forget.  It was mainly just a random idea that popped into my head for this discussion.

The worst game I've ever played is Action 52, for the NES. Never played it on the NES though, only in emulators.

Here's a review, which you MUST see to realize how bad this game is :P

People who love WoW seem to hate it when someone doesn't care, but then they don't care about what someone else is saying.

That's because they are truly addicted, and they have nothing else to talk about. I like World of Warcraft, but I have many other interests I have not abandoned, one of which is Lemmings. :D

My least favourite game of all time is Back to the Future III for the Master System. You can beat the game, upload it onto YouTube in one video, and still have time for a rickroll. And then beat the game again.
SEGA Master System version
100% on 110/120 levels (92%). Other levels [Lemmings lost]:
Fun 03 [3], 06 [2], 18 [5]
Taxing 19 [5], 27 [1], 28 [3]
Tricky 15 [5], 17 [2]
Mayhem 19 [7], 26 [10]

I was compiling a list of "100 NES games worse than Deadly Towers". Because Deadly Towers isn't terrible, never mind that some people think it's the worst game ever made on any system ever.

The answer is Pachi-Com, an NES game released in Japan. You hold down a button. Balls go into a machine (pachinko) and your score points if they go somewhere. That's it. That is the whole game. You hold down a button.

Action 52 is terrible too but at least you can laugh at it. Same with Big Rigs. Pachi-Com is just horrifying.

Although I've rarely played any games that are really bad.

But I must tell you. The game on the Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire DVD, I got really angry on when the timing is off.

And the Yoshi's Story game also I thought was pointless.

And I should agree that although I have never heard of this one, the Bebes Kids Game was really bad. And somehow, it smells bad like the movie. I haven't seen it.

The game ODT never got much good reviews, I admit I kind of like ODT which stands for (escape Or die Trying) The game itself seemed not bad as you can pick from a selection of four characters. I remember one of the characters had a bird on his shoulder.

Not that I'm disputing the assessment (and apologies for bringing up super-old topic but hey grams88 started it :P), but I think some context is in order.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachinko

It sounds like pachi-com is basically a Pachinko machine simulator.  And Pachinko seems kinda like a Japanese analog to casino slot machines.  So I think pachi-com is not all that much different from playing a casino mobile app/video game that includes slot machines as one of the games, ignoring the fact that you don't actually win or lose any money on NES.

The way I see it, this is about as bad as a slot machine video game.  I don't think that excuses its terribleness but the context does help explain why the game would exist in the first place.

I've since changed my mind on Pachi-Com because of what is quite possibly one of the best programmer comments ever:

It literally takes up 5% of the game's entire ROM image. (Slight bad language)

Haha, that rant within Pachi Com is quite amazing :P

I've got quite some bad games for Atari ST, I think, but I haven't cared about them enough to remember their names.
There's one Nintendo-licensed game I really dislike, though. Of course, I don't buy games I'm likely to dislike, but my friend once found this in his room, didn't care about it and gave it to me.
It's Star Trek 25th Anniversary for Gameboy. Watching a longplay, there's more to the game, but I have never been able to make it through the first part, with the space shooter thing. It's just so tedious and boring, that I start losing my concentration and don't take enough care, take a hit too many, and have to start all over again. No, thanks. I'm not playing this again :P

That game you posted about Ben H does not look good at all. :lem-mindblown:

I remember playing a game a long time ago where you hit the spacebar to crush the car that is going by. That what the game was all about just hitting the space bar everytime you saw a car go by. I think the cars went at the same speed also so it was probably one of those games that gets boring quickly.

I think a lot of people mentioning about tomb raider the Angel of darkness not being as good as the other tomb raider games as the controls and feel of it didn't seem right. I have to say that it actually turned out not a bad game.

I think at the time the game was rushed by the developers as they were trying to get it out fast, I think they might of been a dispute or something related to that. Hey I want to stick up for this Tomb raider angel of darkness game, it is actually not bad, I managed to complete that without the use of a walkthrough, last year. (The puzzles were great I felt)

I've played my share of outdated games in my life as a Sierra fan. I've played through some crappy stuff because I liked someone in the cast. I've played live action adventures as a guilty pleasure.

None of those could be as embarassingly bad as Mozart, the Conspiracy of Prague.
Mozart the bomb-defusing superhero.

Every once in a while I like to play some older games I haven't played in a while. With PC games, this can be a little iffy sometimes, what with compatibility issues and everything.

That said, I think Maxis wins the award for "Most Crashy Development Studio" of anything I've ever gone back to. Recently attempted to play SPORE and SimCity 4, which will run for maybe about 30 minutes to an hour before they crash. This is in contrast to most compatibility issues I've had, where the problem presents itself almost immediately, or the game just flat out doesn't run. And, to be honest, I can't exactly say I remember either of those games running very well back when I was running XP - I mean, they'd run a little longer before crashing, but you know what? Of those that are recent enough to run without an emulator/virtual machine, I can't think of any other games in my library - any age - that have crashing issues *at all*, with two exceptions - one crashes upon entering gameplay if nothing is plugged into the microphone jack (weird compatibility issue with newer versions of Windows, apparently), and the other is heavily modded.

I'm dying to know, is this Star Wars: Battlefront II (2005)? This is the only time I've ever seen this issue and until I encountered it with this game I would never have even considered this could be a possibility. I always leave headphones plugged into my desktop's microphone port for this reason. That game is haunted.
