Where are we all?
« on: May 29, 2009, 01:47:02 PM »
Solely out of curiosity, I've wanted to find out where we're all based for quite a while - I said in another thread that Lemmings seems to be mainly British, but I'd like to see if this is true.
If you want to vote anonymously, that's fine, but I'd appreciate it if I could hear where you're from if you do select 'Other'. =P

Well, where-ever you're from, you can't deny that Lemmings being a British creation made for some interesting ideas.

My favourite being the Highland tribe in Lemmings 2. Who else'd've thought of that one but an actual Scottish development team!? It's so charming. They're even gingas, and drunkenly fall into the a telephone box backwards.

Then again, I'd also like to have seen American Lemmings. Just think "My forefathers fought for this flag ... and now I have to twister through it!" O_o

True.  I really want to know this one.  Why is it that us over here in the US got a Doke Doke Panic (or whatever it is) remake with Mario characters instead of the actual Mario 2?  Games made around here commercially almost always suck. :P

The real Super Mario Bros 2 (what we know as the Lost Levels or For Super Players) was sort of like what Oh No! More Lemmings is to Lemmings: an extension for players who need more of a challenge.

I'm also supposing the PAL/NTSC-US territories got the Doki Doki Panic remake because Miyamoto-san didn't like SMB2 (he wasn't part of its development, after all... and he was a part of DDP development ... and of course, they could have remade any game, but they remade one that he was a part of).

I rather like our DDP/SMB2 anyway. I love Shy Guys and Snifits. :P

That is a good part, I suppose.  At least there are ways to get to play Lost Levels.
Or, as I like to say, the REAL Mario 2!

From Mike Dailly's history of lemmings? Something like five guys in an apartment somewhere in Kent, UK, I think.

Just out of curiosity, is there a way to get that level editor they used?

I doubt it, and Lemmix will probably be way better when it's finished, but, no point in not asking.

Mike used to frequent the previous forums and the LemmingsWelt forums before that. If anyone knows how to get a hold of him or to let him know about these forums, perhaps he's the person to ask.

Now hang on just one second. If you go to the DMA site linked in this post on the first page of this thread:

You can read the story of DMA Design at http://www.dmadesign.org/.

You can read the story of Lemmings at http://www.javalemmings.com/DMA/Lem_1.htm.

Hidden away at the bottom of the page there is a link... to a blog. Could this really have existed for 3 years without any of us knowing about it? :D

It has definitely been around for a while, because I have been keeping an eye on it for almost a year now. It is a very interesting read, especially if you're interested in retro hardware. ;)

Oh yeah, and he's also on Flickr. Wonderful Lemmings stuff to be found, including an old Lemmings 2: The Tribes map.

Quite interesting, but I get sent to Mike Dailly's home page. :P It can be hard for some people to see the lemmings bit (Not me though, all sorts of stuff in there). Could you try modifying the link a little bit? It is hard to memorise.

Well, I linked to that page on purpose because there's more to it than just Lemmings.:P But, i'll jump to the good part.

Mike Dailly's Lemmings page on Flickr

And as for modifying the link, what do you mean? Changing the URL? I cannot do that. I'd recommend bookmarking the page if you want to access it in the future.

I don't remember exactly when (my best guess is 3rd grade), but when I was younger, I had to do a poster about a foreign county.  I recall the teacher had a bunch of papers, and you had to grab one to determine which country you would have to do a poster about.  I ended up having to research about Chile.  I don't remember any of it though.  Hmm, maybe I still have the poster somewhere.

I think I already said so, but I live in the US.

IF I still have it...  I think I have a few posters in my closet, maybe it's in there.  If I find it, I'll take a picture.  Come to think of it, I don't remember is we ever got those back...   it's been a few years, so I don't remember much (if any) of it.

Oh wow, you also live here. :XD: It's been pretty interesting to find out that many Lemmings forumers come from here (I think I know at least 5 people now for sure). That's odd that I don't know any Lemmings guy who would live in other Nordic country than Finland. :-\ I voted for "Europe" option already when I registered these forums a while ago. Some interesting choices there also, for example the Netherlands being separately.

Hi Clam Spammer

Back in the early 1990s my dad really wanted us to move to New Zealand but on the other hand my mum would of been upset because of not being able to see her family as much.  My feelings at the time were a bit in between.

My dad was saying he would move in a minute to New Zealand.

Were you in the Christchurch area when the earthquake happened? Scary

It also presents a small problem with posting on the forum, as its always a different time than everyone else. Which means that for example if I need to ask about something, I will be waiting a little while for the answer :P

slightly off topic but the finnish talk reminded me. Try using google translate for.. anything and get a laugh  :) It's worst with Asian languages; at least the point gets across.

what minimac said:
"This is amazing! I am sure that you and the shaft would make great friends ..."
"the shaft" being Akseli  :-\  :D

ever more unrelated; recently a New Zealand comic was on @Midnight with Chris Hardwich ( a U.S. comedy show) he was very funny.
