I have too many games but I don't play many of them actually...

PC:
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (via Project64 emulator)
Zelda: Majora's Mask (via Project64)
Sonic and Knuckles Collection
Cheapo
the older Lemmings games (via DOSBox)
Star Wars Battlefront II
and... eh... what the heck?  I thought there were more.

Gamecube:
Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest
^that's it, even though I have... 20 other games. o.o

DS:
New Super Mario Bros.
Tetris DS
Animal Crossing Wild World

Depends. I'm currently big into Stepmania -- a keyboard version of DDR. I've always been a huge fan of the Mario series, too. I beat New SMB with a "perfect" file in about 3 days.

Not much at all...Lemmings & Supaplex.
Some time ago I additionally played Pushover, before that also some other games a little. Maybe in the future again.

Ah, Pushover!

I remember wasting pretty much an entire weekend straight beating that game. A lot of fun, and a few of the levels were fiendishly clever.

Yeah, I really like it as well. And: I found out the level file format for Pushover! It's just that my C++ skills don't allow me to program an editor yet. :(
You can do it with a hex editor, but it's quite some fiddling around.
Here's the only level I made: http://207.58.177.175/~geoo89/lemmings/P04096.SCR

I remember that, I still have it on my old Amiga.
I made a style that uses the Pushover Mecanno MED, The style is currently unfinished though.

Tetris Attack (I almost forgot how good this was.)

On my Macintosh computer I've programmed a game I called Hubris, based on the puzzle mode of Tetris Attack but with my own designed levels  8)  Wish there was some way I could show you......

Anyway. What games do I play? This should be a short list:

Lemmings (natch!)
Repton 3, BEST GAME EVER! (I might be buying a new PC remake soon.... I'll be very happy!)
Minesweeper (I'm still ranked 300-something-th in the world)
Worms (just to pass the time when I'm bored sometimes)

My fianc?e introduced me to Final Fantasy (7 and 9) when I visited her last year; I enjoyed those but I can do without buying my own copies  8)

Of course you have to get a nice board to have a chance of finishing in 2 seconds -- but then you've also got to do it! Do you think most people could have achieved that time on that board?

YES

Tetris Attack is probably my favorite game of all time. I've been looking for an engine to design puzzle mode levels with.

Hahaha. I thought that one time I passed the old Beginner (10x10, not 9x9) in 10 seconds was good. I mean, I'm playing it again and I'm setting at 62-262-X. I think too much, I guess.

I'm also a big poker player, as well.

How do you mean? The link works fine for me...

I'm just bitter about the program, it only seems to emulate the Time Trial mode of play, and, unfortunately, that was the least interesting mode. :(

You're right. I don't mean to diminish the effort. Just sayin' that layout is quite generous (three clicks?)

The best I seem to be able to do is 5 seconds. So far I'm at 5-74-617, though I've only passed expert once. There's so much luck involved that it's frustrating, but "chance favors the prepared mind" or something like that. You need to be lucky to even have a chance, and even then you've got to be very fast.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The link works fine for me but the program refuses to run. Not that I really care anyway if it only has the Time Trial mode.

Scroll to the bottom to find it

You'll need a Tetris Atttack ROM and ZSNES to get it to work, though. (NOTE: I own a TA cartridge, so I have no moral qualms with ROMs in this case.)

I also can't figure out how to get them in progressive order, like in the game. I'm working on it, though.

Well, you really opnly need the ROM and emulator to play them, not make them.

@Isu: Played the levels. #3 and #5 were a bit easy. #4 was clever, though. I might have done #2 in a way you didn't intend it to be passed, though. Maybe. Solving times were:

1: 0:41
2: 2:03
3: 0:25
4: 2:55
5: 0:24

4 was my favorite, by far.

I'll put up a few of my own levels soon.

EDIT: Here they are: link

These are rather hard, in my opinion. I figure their relative order of difficulty is, from easiest to hardest, 2, 4, 3, 5, 1.

But I'd like to play yours and Isu's.

Incidentally, I'm trying to decide which of my levels to convert to this thing..... all 96 would be pointless, as they start off very easy..... and I'm not sure about the mechanics. Some of my levels took advantage of the fact that on the clone version I programmed, it was possible to have three objects in a row or an object above an empty space in the initial position and nothing would happen until after the first move. I don't know if that's even possible on the real thing.

Also, one of my levels had 6 moves, which the editor doesn't allow:

X_X___
X_X_X_

Well, the emulator is at www.zsnes.com.

There's probably a Tetris Attack ROM on the same site as that editor I pointed out.

If your 6-move puzzle is what I think it is, that it, a two-column separated by a space separated by a two column, a space, and one panel, all the same, I think it's possible in two moves, but you have to be sort of fast.

X_X___
_XX_X_  -- slide bottom panel right

X_X___
_X_XX_  -- before the top panel falls, slide the bottom middle panel right

__X___
XX_XX_  -- if done right, the three shouldn't clear first

______
XXXXX_ -- and all five are lined up

Oh, good point, that would be another mechanics difference. See, in the version I made it was impossible to move anything until a move was "complete" (until everything had come to a halt). I'll have to look through and see which of my other levels will also have easy solutions under the "real" game mechanics.

Here is where I obtained a Tetris Attack ROM.

@Isu: Played the levels. #3 and #5 were a bit easy. #4 was clever, though. I might have done #2 in a way you didn't intend it to be passed, though. Maybe. Solving times were:

1: 0:41
2: 2:03
3: 0:25
4: 2:55
5: 0:24

Yes, well I was just playing around with it. Very few puzzle levels in the original made a pattern out of the blocks, so that explains #2, but without knowing what you did (It's possible in 0:12), it's very hard to tell if you got the right solution. :winktounge: (PM perhaps?)

Yes, I agree, #3 and #5 are easy.

This is what I got for my levels:
1: 0:11
2: 0:12
3: 0:23
4: 0:13
5: 0:08 (I like the multiple chains in this one :devil:)
Although, admittedly, I already know the solutions before playing  :mikewink:.

And for Insane Steve's levels:
1: 0:12
2: 0:13
3:
4: 0:25
5:

#1 was fun, #4 was sneaky, plus, I haven't passed, #3 or #5 yet.

Well, my times were from first look to clear -- now that I know the answer to #4 of yours, I'd assume it'd take about 15 seconds or so. I don't know.

#4 of mine was just an attempt to make a really cool looking chain. I could've made it a 3 or 4 move puzzle but that'd be way too evil.

So here is a compilation of the best of my puzzles, arranged in approximate difficulty order

I've also been trying out Isu's and Insane Steve's -- solved Isu's 1, 3, 4 and 5 and Insane Steve's 2, 3, 4 and 5 so far. (With a move to spare on Insane Steve's 3, as well!) Unfortunately I don't know how to reset if you go wrong, except by pressing F4, but that also resets the timer, so I can't give my solving times.....

I just added the times when I messed up. To reset a move, A and S are used.

Ya, I found a 3-move solution to my #3, although it requires a somewhat advanced chain mechanism (that is, it wouldn't have worked on your editor). Would your solution have been possible on your editor? I also used an advanced clear mechanism on Isu #2, hence why I think it isn't the intended answer. #1 is just very difficult, for at least two reasons I can think of.

*36: 2:00
*37: 2:12
*38: 2:30
*39: 3:13
*40: 4:35

I just glanced through them thus far -- I'll probably look at 36-40 a lot better when I have more time. I got #32 practically immediately because of the way I approach the puzzles. My mind first looks for colors of panels that only have 3, 4, or 5 of a color. 32 has two sets of threes, so my first impulse is to rid myself of those, first. It just so happens that my impulse was correct.

This is also why 27 and 28 have given me problems so far.

Also, regarding #22, I think that there's a stage in the SNES Tetris Attack's puzzle mode that is VERY similar. I think it's 5-3 or 5-4, forgot which. I know I recognised that pattern from somewhere.

I also tend to have a hard time with "tall column" stages, like #6.

So... 29/40 solved on my first glances. Although 36-40 weren't passed immedately... can't say which is my favorite yet because I have a feeling that one of those I've yet to pass is going to be my favorite.

Overall, though, a very nicely-made set of puzzles. I mean, the solutions have been clever -- these puzzles remind me a LOT of the later stages of SNES Tetris Attack's puzzle mode. Just, in design and in how the solutions are obscured. I'll take a better look at the later puzzles sometime.

Only minor gripe is that I'm not a fan of the "start with 3 or more of a color in a row" puzzles (30). Personal preference, that's all.

Ouch, I'm impressed -- you've already done a lot better than anyone else I've shown these to.

#22 was indeed inspired by an original level (6-8 in fact). Several of the others were too  :cool:  but they might not all be so easy to spot.

How did you do #7 in fewer moves? [EDIT: never mind, I figured it.] I know it would have been impossible to do this on my version -- I programmed an analyser to check all the solutions for uniqueness. Were all the other solutions you found ones that would work on my version too?

Huh... I was almost certain #22 is similar to a stage in world 5, not 6...

As for #7, I did find the 5-move solution that works on your program. The 4-move one would not.

1) Swap right-yellow with red to remove 3-clear
2) Drop red that's third from bottom in the tall column to the left
3) Undo what you did with move #1 to clear the yellows
4) Quickly move cursor to the lower left corner and time it so the red piece slides into the clear and 5-clears the reds (instead of four-clearing them)

I've since cleared #6, #13, and #18. My solution for #6 wouldn't work on your program... so I'm still working on that one. #18 was clever -- I just have a really hard time working with the blue pieces here.

I think there were a couple of stages that I worked with solutions that require movement while pieces clear. However, I think that I could've changed the order and cleared them in the same manner.

And I've cleared all 120 stages in Tetris Attack puzzle mode in one sitting before, so the reason I think I'm doing well with your puzzles is because I used to be really, really good at the game. I think my time trail record is 42,7XX and my fastest time to 99,999 in endless is 5:13. A bit off the world records in both, but still pretty good, I think.

I see. If you can remember which those were, I'd be interested if you could go back and check whether you can find solutions that would work on my program, but I don't want to make this into a chore. I'm particularly interested in how you solved #30.

I see my little trick on #8 didn't fool you for very long  :tongue:  That one had stumped quite a few of the better solvers before now.

PMed #30.

Ya, when I worked #8, I was wondering if that was intended or some odd alternative solution.  :winktounge:

Oh, I've completed all but 36-40 now. I will say that I really liked #26-#28, especially #27. #27 was clever in how it was initially presented, and how the solution actually goes... but this stretch of three were all quite enjoyable when solved.

OK, your solution for #30 is the right one. (With so many lines on this one I wanted to double-check that the different game mechanics hadn't introduced an alternative solution.) That's another one that most solvers I've tried it out on have a lot of problems.

I agree with you about ##26-8; those are among my favourite levels too, and #27 is one of the few that always stumps me when I revisit it, even though I made it! (Along with #37....)

Let's see how you get on with those last few now..... they definitely are the hardest!  :laugh:

Updated times/solve status -- again, * denotes not cleared yet:

6: 3:15
13: 2:42
18: 4:30
26: 4:59
27: 3:50
28: 4:07
*36: 7:26
*37: 6:05
*38: 3:51
39: 6:05
*40: 11:31

So, 36, 37, 38, and 40 left. Is 36 really that hard? It doesn't look that bad, but I can't find anything that really works.

39 was cool. I think what happened was I figured out the two important moves an the tweaked the rest of the stack to clear everything.

I have work today and tomorrow, so progress may be halted somewhat.

#36 is one of those ones where either you get the trick to it or you don't  :cool:  In my opinion it's easier than the rest of the last five just because there are fewer options to try. Well done on getting #39 though.

I also used an advanced clear mechanism on Isu #2, hence why I think it isn't the intended answer.

^This statement sounds like you have the correct solution to #2, as that is what I intended.

#22 was indeed inspired by an original level (6-8 in fact).

Onto Nuntar's levels, Assuming you mean the extra set of levels, the Gameboy version of 6-08 (not sure if its the same for SNES) was the hardest level of the game. I must've clocked excess of 40 hours trying to solve it, and now you say #22 is inspired by that level, well that's just great...

Lets issue my times for Nuntars levels now:
(Note, these are actually now solve times, as opposed to how long it would take me to execute it.)
1: 0:20
2: 0:15
3: 0:06
4: 0:21
5: 0:17
6: 1:08
7: 1:35 (wrong solution though)

That's it for now.

EDIT: Oh, and I just cleared Insane Steve #1!

It would be best if a mod could split it off from the topic, but we don't have a mod for Other Games yet.

I didn't mean the extra set of levels; I would have specified if I had. I've never even played them..... maybe now that I have the ROM I'll take a look, if I can work out how to access them.

EDIT: wow, the extra levels are cool. I beat the first "world", but they are hard -- took me 13 minutes to get that far. I'll try the rest another time.........

EDIT: It appears the only mod power I have, at all, on these boards is to stick threads. I can't even edit other posts. So, I can't split this off, sorry.

Nice work passing #1, Isu!

Oh:

37: 15:21, but my solution uses a move while other pieces are moving. Can't find one that doesn't yet.

So, any DS owners here?

I've recently bought a white Lite (Just released here in Europe), and it's slowly but surely becoming my favourite console. I can't stop playing it! There's so many games I own for it, most of which get regular play. I can't wait come next week, New Super Mario Bros! ^_^

Yep, I got a DS. I have and already have a perfect file on New Super Mario Bros. -- It's a really, really fun game, albeit a bit easy at times because there's a few too many power-ups.

Still, highly recommended.

I never liked S2 for some reason.  Only S3 (&K).  And Rush was waaaay to easy.  AND it was not very good.  The music, while at first good, becomes annoying fast.  The levels are like they took Sonic 3 and Sonic Advance 2, and put them in a blender... meaning they suck.  That game was not what I would have hoped for.

If only they'd remake Sonic 3 for DS.

Yes, it is indeed. It's just that there's no editor for it, i.e. you have to do it with a hex-editor. But, hey, why don't you write one? :wink:

FWIW, here's the information I figured out about the Pushover file formats (*.scr, *.bcx, *.plx, *.pal):
First, all files except for the *.pal are compressed with RNC_ProPack by Rob Northen with the key 0x1984.
(Use command "PPibm u -k 0x1984 filename.ext" to unpack)

A friend of mine, blackhole89 has written a program to display the information of the *.bcx/*.plx files on the screen: http://207.58.177.175/~geoo89/lemmings/displ.zip
Source is included. Rename the respective files for the themes (styles) to whatever.ext and decompress them. Sample for the aztec style is included.

Herman Perk worked out some information about the codes and the levelfile names: http://www.infordigital.com/Forum/f42/flash-game-puzzle-18179/#post31545

As for my part...First the uncompressed *.scr format:
decompressed file size: 3958 bytes

consists of 3 sections:
section 1: 0x0000 - 0x0617 (1560 bytes) - game field information
section 2: 0x0618 - 0x0775 (350 bytes) - general level information
section 3: 0x0776 - 0x0f75 (2048 bytes) - unknown

section 1:
gamefield consists of 20 columns * 13 rows = 260 fields (13th row is only half-visible)
1 field = 16 * 16 px
the information for 1 field takes 6 bytes
Code: [Select]
first/second byte: background sprite to be displayed - see displ (part 1)

 third byte: foreground - see displ (part 2)

 fourth byte: stone located in that field
  0 = none
  1 = Standard
  2 = Stopper
  3 = Splitter
  4 = Exploder
  5 = Delay
  6 = Tumbler
  7 = Bridger
  8 = Vanish
  9 = Trigger
  A = Ascender

 fifth byte: unknown - only used in the option levels

 sixth byte: unknown - only used in the option levels

section 2:
Quote
0x0618 - 0x061F = Style name
0x0620 - 0x062B = string "  SILENCE   "
0x062C             = x-pos entrance
0x062D             = y-pos entrance
0x062E             = x-pos exit
0x062F             = y-pos exit
0x0630 - 0x0773 = some text
0x0774 - 0x0775 = time (minutes/seconds)

section 3:
unknown - used in the levels, but doesn't seem to have any function

The uncompressed *.bcx resp. *.plx format:
graphics for background resp. foreground, 16*16 sprites
Code: [Select]
1 sprite: 160 bytes
 information is split up into 5 layers of 32 bytes each (1 layer = 256 bits = 16*16)
 5th layer is always empty
 the 4 bits at a position 'n' make up a 4bit value for the pixel 'n' within the sprite
 the 4bit value defines one color for the pixel at the position 'n' taken out of the palette
My explanation is crappy, here's an example:
Quote
8A      AA      5x  ...
92      B2      Ax  ...
2A      A1      5x  ...
55      25      5x  ...  = hex code, each string = 32 bytes
10001010101010100101...
10010010101100101010...
00101010101000010101...
01010101001001010101...  = bin code, each string = 256 bits
--------------------
3849587870F2183C3D3D...  = color for pixel

the *.pal (64 bytes):
Code: [Select]
0x0000 - 0x001F defines palette of 16 colors
 2 bytes each for defining one color:
  first four bits empty
  four bits for each RGB component
0x0020 - 0x003F empty

And I'm close with the format for the domino graphics, the last(?) thing that would be required for an editor (Although it would most likely be easier to create a separate file for those 11 stones).
Bah, code tag doesn't even have fixed font...

Oh, and there's a style that wasn't used in the game: CAVERN. I just look at it with Displ and the style is so sweet! :thumbsup:

-The Sims
There are some cool cheats for that game. I say this because I thought you guys wanted to hex edit the Sims for a moment, and I thought I might point this out.
practically infinite money, Expand your lot,̆ get the ability to Move people, maiilboxes, cars, literally anything, except walls, which you can move anyway. You can just delete any trash your sims leave lying around. XD

- No mailbox=no bills :laugh:
But i'd suggest keeping it, as you can't get it back and if you don't pay your bills, some idiot coes and takes some stuff from your house." Hmm, I think I like this widecsreen TV. this couch, and this bed." *take*

I found the whole living part of Sims (2) to be actually boring.  You waste a huge amount of your time getting your sims to the top of the career tree, raising kids, making sure those kids get married, etc.  And then they die.  However, building houses is quite fun.  I've made some pretty weird things.

My sims can never get to the top of the career tree, The kids go from baby to kid, but they never actually grow up :XD:

Maybe that's because you have an expansion pack. also, my sims don't die  :laugh:-Unless they get caught in a fire or if you put them in a swimming pool and take out the stairs :shocked:

They can also starve to death, but otherwise, they're like the fish in the aquarium, feed them occasionally and they will walk happily in circles forever. :tongue:

For these that enjoyed playing Push over, there's another puzzle game made by Ocean that took the character of the Dog (Colin) from Push over. The game is "One Step Beyond" (a few called this game "Push over 2", but it isn't the concept of dominoes in this game). I'm trying it and it is nice!

I heard of it, but it was said it is not as good as the original Pushover. I downloaded the music and it is not as nice either, but that doesn't say anything about the game.
It's only available for Amiga, so I need to get WinUAE, is that correct? Maybe I should try it.

It is available for PC too by using Dosbox (of course). Check on Abandonia or on Lost Treasures FR websites.

:agree: It is not as good as Pushover, but it's quite fun anyway. I'm now on Level 61! I just finished the 6th Quaver Zone!

The concept is simple: You start on the START QUAVER platform and you must close all other platforms and reach the EXIT QUAVER platform at last. Colin (the one that we control) can jump sideways, diagonally up and down and straight down (not upward, you can't). You can also do a super-jump by holding the Action key. You'll jump two platforms away instead of one (it also works in diagonal). Each time you get off from a platform, it closes.

There are also special platforms that do special things like: jump automatically in a direction, open or close horizontal row of platforms, close "diagonal" row of platform, timer platform (that closes after a while) and shifter platform (that constantly open and close each 5 seconds). Combine all that, and you'll get some crazy puzzles.

There's a manual in English for this game on Abandonware Manuels website.

Regarding Pushover, I managed to display the dominoe#.spx graphics now.
Those and the sprites for each style are included in the archive (.png images): http://207.58.177.175/~geoo89/lemmings/pushovergfx.zip

I recently purchased Sonic & the secret rings, and had it finished within a few days, although now I need to unlock everything, which could take a while.

You know things are bad when you log into a lemmings forum to talk about a game that actually isn't related to it.

Secret Rings was better than the other recent Sonic games but I didn't enjoy it.  The storyline was retarded, the music annoying, and the gameplay was rather awkward in my opinion.  Everything Sega makes these days is scorched with suckiness, it seems.

Yup.

the music annoying,
Not as good as previous games I agree.

I actually think SA2 set the standard too high. SA2 almost seems like a freaky fluke (well, the orignal SA was also good, but annoying at times).

I play mostly strategy games, plus the odd puzzle game. Civilization 4 has occupied a lot of my time lately (which explains why I haven't posted much since uploading my levels). Besides that, I like:
- Age of Empires 2
- Age of Mythology
- Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (star wars version of AoE2)
- The Incredible Machine (1 and 2)

Do you guys know about the special parts that show up on TIM2 on certain days of the year? They are hilarious!

Yup, I know them (they're also in TIM3, ROTIM : Contraptions and TIM : Even More Contraptions):

Santa Electrical Lamp (can be used as a light source): Christmas
Boris the Bat (fly when bumped) : Halloween
Leprechaun (dance when bumped): St-Patrick's Day
Cupid (reacts like a blimp but can also pop balloons with its arc): Valentine's Day

There are also those in the first TIM or in TEMIM :

Christmas Tree (a single obstacle): Christmas
Pumpkin (a single object): Halloween
Clover (a single object): St-Patrick's Day
Heart Balloon (indestructible, which is quite nice): Valentine's Day

I haven't seen TIM3 or those other two, are they worth getting?

TIM3 is the complete same thing than TIM2, excepted that this version is for Windows instead of Dos. Levels are the same, musics too, but there are just one difference : you can expand the play field in Freeform mode so that you can build larger machines. You can get it for free on Lost Treasures FR in Image CD format. The website is in French, but the game is multilingual.

Return of the Incredible Machine : Contraptions is the same thing than the previous two games (TIM2 and TIM3), but with a few more things : new musics, a little bit of new puzzles, improved graphics and a new interface. The other levels are the same and the parts are still the same. My personal opinion : don't buy it. Instead, find for it and download it as buying it is a waste of money.

The Incredible Machine : Even More Contraptions is the best TIM ever. LOTS of new really hard puzzles with some more musics included. Interface is the same than ROTIM, but... anyway. This one is a must!

I just got TIM:EMC. The 3D graphics are a huge improvement and some of the puzzles are hilarious. And much harder. Could just be because I haven't seen them before (like I had when I came back to TIM2) but they do seem to be actually more difficult.

This one will keep me busy for a little while. Great stuff :thumbsup:

If you played TIM : Contraptions, you'll notice that nothing really changes between the two versions, excepted the new levels and soundtracks in TIM : EMC.

And yeah, this TIM is excellent.

But there are new TIM-like games that are taking my attention. Does somebody here have played Crazy Machine 1 or 2? Here's the official website.

I'm trying to beat the Cave Story hell run. It is very hard. The farthest I've made it is getting a couple hits on on Ballos' second phase.

Trust me, don't look on YouTube to get an idea of the difficulty. They'll make it look easier than it is.
