Your favorite Lemmings song(s)?
« on: August 05, 2017, 03:19:02 AM »
I checked and a thread about this was made a year ago, but i thought it was ok to still post a thread even if it's obsolete (don't know if that breaks a rule) but your favorite tracks might change overtime.

Anyways, this track is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE track.

I also like these ones too.

I'm a fan of the SNES soundtrack; that's the one I grew up with. The other versions of the original songs sound kinda strange to me.

These Amiga tracks and SNES soundtrack are great. Believe it or not, I actually like the Genesis soundtrack even though that wasn't the one I grew up with, and my favorite from that soundtrack is its version of London Bridge Is Falling Down. However, I pretty much enjoy Can-Can on any version ;).

Track 13 of the Master System version. It's a track unique to that version.

Maybe it's just because I grew up with it, but I ADORE the DOS soundtrack, particularly the tracks Twang, Infernal Galop, Patience and most of all Rondo Alla Turca.

That said, I also love the SNES versions of Dance of the Little Swans, Rondo Alla Turca, and Lemming 3. Genesis Lemming 2 is also amazing, as are tracks 13, 14, and 15 from the Master System.

Like many of the above posters, I love the soundtrack of the version I grew up with, in my case the Mac:

Mac - Oh No! More Lemmings - Track 4
Mac - Track 13
Mac - What an AWESOME level

I forgot to mention "paitence" song (tim6?) is also one of my favorites. I like many of the versions too, all have different things that make them interesting.

Twang used to be my favourite, but nowadays there are some other tracks I really like as well. It'd be hard to choose.
As for versions: I really like both the Amiga version and the PC-Adlib/DOS version. The Amiga version doesn't seem to loop well, though, judging from VengefulChip's video.
I think the Atari ST version unfortunately isn't as great as it could be. :/

Well, this is definitely the WORST Lemmings track out there.

This one is also kinda bad. It's a complete change from the usual upbeat music in official Lemmings.

By the way, has anyone ever played the NES port of Lemmings? The controls and physics did get annoying, but it had a nice soundtrack in my personal opinion. These were my favorites:

Smile If You Love Lemmings
London Bridge Is Falling Down
Forest Green

The music is identical in the Game Boy version if that counts (has the same levels as the NES version).

I like the London Bridge is Falling Down track :)

Yeah, the levels were the same but I wasn't sure if the music was as well. Despite everything, those levels were pretty unique. I remember the levels either having a different name (for example It's Hero Time was Who Wants To Be A Hero?, Just A Minute was Houston We Got A Problem, and The Far Side was Calling International Rescue to name a few), the same layout but a different solution (Feel The Heat had a neat little puzzle to it that only works on Game Boy and NES ports), a repeat of a level that never had one (Watch Out! There's Traps About! and even Tailor Made For Blockers), or a completely new level (Hello John Got A New Lemming).

I like the London Bridge is Falling Down track :)

I love this track and Can-Can on pretty much every port, but my absolute favorite is London Bridge Is Falling Down on Genesis. I didn't include a link to it in my first post. My bad. Here it is.

Well, this is definitely the WORST Lemmings track out there.

Keep in mind the sound hardware of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum was apparently somewhat primitive.  For reference, here's a youtube link to a "Best of ZX Spectrum Music" playlist.  I'll admit that most entries on that playlist do sound at least a little better than that Lemmings track.  Perhaps the person who did the Lemmings tracks was not an expert with the Spectrum ZX sound hardware, and didn't know what to do and what not to do on that hardware to get the best sounds out of it.

This one is also kinda bad. It's a complete change from the usual upbeat music in official Lemmings.

I didn't realize the Gameboy Color version had such totally different music, I always assumed it had same music as the regular Gameboy version.  While the first track of the first level of the game arguably doesn't make the best first impression, it does seem to get more upbeat with subsequent tracks (2 3).

I'm still surprised they even bother to create seemingly all(?) original tracks for that version.  What's wrong with just transcribing the music from the regular versions? ??? :-\ The few I heard from that version didn't exactly impress.

[edit: having listened to those 3 tracks on GBC, I wonder if there is some sort of hardware limitation at play as well?  I noticed those tracks don't seem to have independent "voices" of music--it seems like every time a note is started or stopped, it does so across all voices, so it doesn't seem like you can, for example, sustain one lower bass note while playing a sequence of several higher melodic notes over it.

But if that's the case I think that's more restrictive than even the regular GameBoy?  I don't know the respective hardware capabilities that well but find it hard to believe Gameboy Color would be more primitive and restrictive on its sound capabilities than the older, non-color Gameboy.]

Yes. It may not be the best soundtrack ever in my opinion, but it does get a lot better. I actually like the second one a lot. As for why didn't they use the original tracks... I don't think it was hardware limitations because even the old Gameboy somewhat replicated some of the original tracks. Then again, I could be wrong.
