I'll admit I'm not that well-versed with Kickstarter, but my understanding is that Kickstarter primarily addresses the funding aspect of projects. I don't believe financials is an issue when it comes to Lix. Making it a KickStart project does help with promotion (mainly because you are forced to consider early how to promote your project on KickStarter in order to maximize funding received), but in doing so you will also be held accountable (somewhat) to your donors for things like completion dates and promised features, which can be problematic.
