Race Results: Clam WINS! (5 map speedsolve comp)
« on: February 11, 2014, 02:55:25 AM »
Doing a puzzle solve race for 5 of my 10 new maps
edit:  Added the 5 maps as an attachment now that the race on first 5 has been played.

RESULTS:
clam       :    36m 42s     Speedsolve champion pack #1
proxima  :    39m 02s
geoo      :     42m56s
Akseli    :     56m 22s
Simon    :    66m  (day after competition solve time)

geoo had a very fast 4 maps done, but caught up on the last map, unlucky!
Grats too all , solving all 5 under my pre-estimated time of 68minutes.

When:  Saturday 22nd Febuary at 9PM UTC
Where: BE ON IRC   irc.quakenet.net  #lix
What Game:  Lix of course!
How : A link to the map pack will be released in IRC when everyone's there and ready, and the race to solve all 5 maps will start.

The first person to send me the 5 replays by email rubix01(at)gmail.com
                                      or
The first person to pastebin the 5 replays on IRC in a private message
(And I check for completion /  even if you find a backroute.   Still accepted)

wins the title of 'Speedsolve champion pack #1'

GMT/UTC Clock:  http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_UTC.aspx

-The maps are about mayhem difficulty, but surely easier than the parallel universe maps.
-No maps have a timer
-No maps have any possibility of flinging (sorry Clam)
-All are just staight up clean puzzles.

Here is a look at the 10 maps.  First 5 are 'pack #1'
If this works out, we can do the other 5 as a solve race competition on another weekend.

Pack #1

Quarantine

Let My People Go

The Art Of Misdirection

Baywatch

Unstable Experiment

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pack #2

Hunt the....Polarbear?

Central Cavern

Make Haste

Sending Our Love Down The Well

Bangarang Peter!

I have to admit the levels look fun and I'm intrigued.  Although I have my doubts whether I have the time this week to join. :(

The idea is to only install them, but not look further at them at all until everybody starts solving?

I'm in unless my all-too-proper German sleeping habits (21 UTC to 6 UTC) get in the way. I'm also reallife-busy on the next two Fridays & weekends. >_>; You don't have to reschedule just for me, though.

Interesting use for the floppy grass as polar bear teeth!

Yay! Now we get a chance to experience the thrill of racing like Simon and geoo did. Count me in for sure 8). If it's successful, maybe this could become a semi-regular thing, substituting for multiplayer sessions when we get tired of those. Along those lines, I'd suggest to hold the race at our usual time of Friday evening (GMT).

I suggest my easy "Flower" rating will be ideal for racing, if/when I finish it. (Target: 30 levels (I've just decided on this); completed so far: 7. It may be some way off :P. And no one gets to see the other 23 until the race ) Easy levels mean no one gets stuck for an extended time, and you don't need to be a great solver just to finish.

One question: How will the start and finish work? I imagine it'll be something like: host posts a link to the maps on IRC at start time (and not before, so no chance to practice), and "finish" means uploading a complete set of replays and posting the link to IRC.

Yea thats right - I will be posting a link to the first 5 maps seen in the pictures on IRC, no one will have any chance to play them before
(with whatever time/date works best for people)

Then you guys just go ahead and work on it, and first to send me 5 finished replays wins.
Just for fun!

And bragging rights.  :D

Rubix and I thought up a fun means of participation for those who aren't available to race:

Guess the winner's time!

After the race details are officially announced, PM the host with your guess.

This was amazing fun! I'm already looking forward to the next race with even more contestants ;) plus hosting my own one of course.

The levels look really nice, and despite backroutes were solid difficulty too. My favourite was Quarantine, the solution is really sneaky and I was way off for a while :D
