Reloaded Expansion Game: For Lix

Status  :  Ready and very playable!   I have done quite extensive testing (gone through all maps twice and more for certain maps now)   I have replays for every map.
Only thing missing from this expansion project being 100% complete are 2 of the unique style maps which need re-creation still.   If someone would kindly like to try come up with something, then please do!

Reloaded is an expansion pack for Lix that you can download from this thread.  It will not be included directly in the Lix download file.

-A Full single player expansion pack with recreations of the original levels from the 'Lemmings' game but with graphics only from Lix
-Completely new puzzles and level names for every map.
-Reloaded uses ONLY the original 8 skills to give it the classic feel.

Statistic Challenges    If you do any better on any of the challenge stats that I have been posting, show me proof (such as pastebin) and i'll update it with your name in parenthesis ()     Just to stop having all replays available while the puzzles are fresh and new :)

Note: Fastest time challenge is the person who has the best full second time only ( we are not playing for frames ) eliminates the over-use of the replay function for sillyness!

Most Saved   |   Least Skills Used   |   Fastest Completion Time   |   or any other stats you would like included that you think are worthy of being displayed.

Additional Info About The Level Re-creations
- Minor differences that were necessary, or helped create interesting puzzles :  Trap additions / Reverse direction entrances / Lix amounts & spawn rates / Some terrain differences

WARNING:
If you are an absolute beginner, you should buy the game 'Lemmings' to have a better introduction to the game before playing this ;)

Reloaded keeps the 4 "difficulty" brackets, but don't rely on that, its more to break the levels into the blocks of 30 maps.
Basically you could find the puzzles ranging from a tricky to mayhem difficulty in each section, though degu is still the easiest set to complete.

Unique bracket naming are as follows:  Degu / Beaver / Porcupine / Capybara

Have fun

Updates & Changelog:

Nov 11:  4 'difficulty' levels now properly named.     Degu, Beaver, Porcupine, Capybara (thanks Simon/geoo for the ideas)
                Degu01 : Removed the timer.
Beaver29 : Recreated the level & puzzle with smaller red balls to match the original semicircular height correctly.

Nov 13:  Some slight modifications to a few maps in 'Degu' to make a little bit easier.
Couple maps from minimac renamed at his request
4 backroutes fixed by minimac on Capybara puzzles
Capybara 19 puzzle modified to make more difficult

Nov 14: Let's block and blow / Bomboozal puzzles added.   2 remain (unique maps to recreate)

Nov 15  Made a few minor modifications in the Porcupine set which makes all testing for reloaded finally complete!!

Status: Well tested and playable!

I love this idea! Unless you insist on doing the whole game yourself, then I'm more than happy to remake some levels. Like this one I just built: Tricky 1, "This should be a doozy!"

If you don't want me stepping on your toes, I can move over to ONML of course. (CSTame reloaded, woo! )

I'd be up for designing some challenges for this... except I'm fairly aesthetically challenged so I'd not be so good at recreating maps. I suppose if there's levels where making a challenging path is proving hard I'll see what I can come up with.

I've already remade King of the Castle and Rendezvous at the Mountain as 2p levels, so I removed the extra hatches to convert them back to 1p. These don't yet have new skillsets, but now whoever does these levels is saved the bother of converting the terrain

I still have a list of my old ResEdit levels -- a set that consisted entirely of new puzzles on the original terrains. This was my very first foray into Lemmings level design, so the majority had more difficulty of execution than genuine puzzle difficulty, but there may be a few decent ideas in there that we could use.

As I found in möbius's "The skills you don't have" challenge, Fun 4 can be solved 100% with 1 builder and 1 basher. This is also true in your version.

Thanks Mobius.

I'll take dibs on using those 2 edits and making puzzles for them.

As for fun04, I had edited it yesterday to stop any way of changing spawn intervals.  Not sure if I put that in the most recent zip on here, but its fixed for the next .zip

edit: (all changes are now noted at the top of the main post now)

Thanks!

I'll likely be too busy in real life for the next few weeks to do much on this but it is intriguing anyway, and is probably perfect for the aesthetically challenged like me since the look of a level is already pre-determined. ;)

I'm still a little confuse though as to what modifications are okay and what aren't.  What Rubix explicitly called out on the first post are only 3 things:

- can change number of lixes
- can change spawn interval (which I take to mean all 3 values [initial, max, min] can freely deviate from original)
- can add new traps (!)
- must stick to classic 8 skills

Not mentioned but presumably necessary to actually get fresh puzzles out of at least some of the levels

- change skill counts freely (can add and remove number of skills from original version, including changing both to and from a count of 0)
- change save percentage
- titles can change (this is too obvious to mention)

Not mentioned and unsure of ok or not:

- time limit? (besides necessary in some case for backroute prevention, also known to be unpopular amongst some people here; on the other hand, is it too drastic a change in "feel" if most levels have no time limits anymore?)
- adding new entrances and exits? change their positions from original version? spawning lixes facing left?
- additions, removals and position changes on existing objects/traps?
- what do we do with one-way walls?
- I'm guessing you won't get a one-to-one mapping of traps from original styles to Lix styles.  Even on a pure functional sense, a triggered trap in original style may animate in an amount of time (and thus safely passable for that amount of time) that matches none of the triggered traps in Lix style.  Presumably this is okay anyway?
- I'm assuming for repeats, we want to stay true to the original's way of doing repeats, where all terrain and objects must stay exactly the same, but "stats" like number of lixes, how many to save, time limit, and skill counts can differ?
- Limited additions of steel, which doesn't really add new terrrain, but only to prevent certain traps/objects from easily bypassable, say?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All of the above is completely fine to change.  Really all I am trying to get at is that we try replicate the main look of the level, then create a new puzzle and find new ways of using terrain in those maps.    Your own Lix amount, skill uses, spawn intervals, hatch direction, time limits are all free to change as needed to make a new puzzle out of the original level style.
Adding in extra hatches/exits I feel is also fine if it can make a great new puzzle, then sure why not.  It's all about using the available terrain to create new fresh puzzles.

-I have been remaking some of the maps already with and without time limits.   This is ok.
additions, removals and position changes on existing objects/traps?  Trap locations I feel can be changed.  It's still more about the actual look of the level, than the designed functionality within.
-One way walls came up, and we need to just design puzzles as if the map did not have any one-way walls.    Not much choice here.  I'm sure we can still make something fun.

Thanks, i'll add most of this up in the top post to help clear things up.

Could we not use substitutes for one-way walls as we've done in the community set, for instance Exit, stage right?

Your Fun 7 has a backroute similar to the Fun 4 one; this time just two builders.

yep, this has already been rebuilt.  The info is up top about that map already.

-as for one way walls, I haven't seen how they have been substitued, but if you know a good way to work around it, go for it! cool.

I remade We All Fall Down, using Lix's winter terrain (!) instead of the underworld style. (You could call it the "hell freezes over" edition ) I chose winter because it has spikes, which underworld currently lacks, and which are essential to some of the puzzle ideas I had for this map. I've attached the map with two different puzzles of my own invention. They still need titles, but I'd suggest waiting until we have all four made and then doing one title for all of them.

I also rebuilt Tricky 3 / Taxing 29 (A ladder would be handy / How do I dig up the way), but no puzzle for it yet.

Just did 3 of your remakes.
Good fun, able to save the climber on the 'a ladder would be handy ' remake.

WAFD-1 - Great puzzle too.  This actually had me stumped for like 20 minutes till I realized the only way its going to work is by blocking right at the dam end of the platform hah.

WAFD-2 Working on it..  Interesting.

---------------------------

Name possibilities:

3         A ladder would be handy -----------> Delaying The Inevitable
                                                                    How to get ahead?

29        How do I dig up the way ? --------------> Detonation Expedition
                                                                            Bangarang!
                                                                           Tunnel Tactics
                                                                           Softening The Blow

------------------------------------------
We all fall down remakes

Just wondering which difficulties you are putting the first 2 of those in?  The first one is definitely not 'fun'  so tricky or taxing either would be fine.  Im still not even sure what to do on the other one, so im already thinking you could easily just have these as taxing/mayhem ones and then make fun/tricky still.

WAFD More FUN - Fall Down
WAFD More Tricky - Down We Fall!
WAFD More Taxing - We Fall Down ?
WAFD More Mayhem - All We Fall

? Silly, but keeps the basic idea of We All Fall Down going? i dunno.

New Update released.  (Some names temporary in the list above, till we get some good names for them)

Made 2 nice puzzles out of your recent edit (Clam: Looks beautiful btw!) by reversing the entrance direction, gave a simple looking build map much more entertaining puzzles. check them out.

Mobius, I can't load 'rendezvous at the mountain'  it'll crash when you attempt to play it.  Any ideas whats doing that?

As I have lix and that it has been updated recently I'm also stating to take an interest in this project. I have attempted to remake some levels, especially those in the late Mayhem category, but what I can't do is load whichever level I want directly onto the Lix editor. As I can't see a load button there how is this method possible?

Select the level via the singleplayer browser, then hit Edit.

The current version is still from August 6th. Based on your post, people might expect something much more recently. ;-)

Sorry, I should've clarified what I said. I meant if there was a way to download a level from the original lemmings game onto Lix then that would've answered my question.

Anyway, I have made remakes of Mayhem levels 21-28 (Edit: not 22 though) so far.

OK, here are downloads to some of the levels I've worked on. For 21 I decided to mix the goldmine set with yellow marble just to reflect the "Bitter Lemming" idea. It may look disgusting but I hope I haven't broken one of the rules.

Yes, I have proved that it is correct. Here's a small hint:

Take the outside route. When some lemmings are saved, any skills that you have left may be useful

I have a week off college, so I will be much more active this week until I return on 6 November. So far I've not only done the levels I've talked about but also Fun 21 and 30, Tricky 11-13 and 24, Mayhem 16, 18, 19 and 29. I've attached a zip file containing these levels. I'd like to work primarily in the Mayhem section, but if you have ideas for any of the Mayhem levels I'd appreciate your input.

Lemmings in the attic, mind the step and save me look fantastic!
I'll be trying them all soon also.  I'll update the reloaded.zip with those additions for now though.

I'll add a note to the main post for people to not work in the mayhem levels for now, as you may be busy with them this week.

Still unable to complete: With a coating of lemon paint please

44/45 saved, and I have 3 climbers, 2 blockers and a basher remaining.   I'll let other people try solve it before you give any other hint.  This is intriguing.

A Spoonful of lixcurd = Amazing!

Easily one of the top 'classics skills' puzzles ever I would have to say, people have to try this soon.

The only issue with it is:  It's a lot harder than 'tricky'  that is for sure.  Took me about 20 minutes to work out, saving the 19th lix got me confused for a few minutes also.  Got myself into a loop, had a cup of tea and realized how obvious it was to save that one suddenly hehe.

Love it!  GG

Just 2 minutes : This must be a backroute as I finished it immediately with lots of time and skills remaining.
replay attached.

Carnival playhouse took a lot of trial and error to stretch the bridge supply out.  Very enjoyable, much more than the original map was

will try the others tommorow.

I did the same (minus the cup of tea), good catch :D

I've played the new batch of levels, minus the builder-heavy Mayhem ones. I'll see if I can get those done and post up some replays.

Good news everyone! I've re-created all the levels in the Mayhem category. I've added three more fun levels too in this download. Any feedback on any of these levels would be greatly appreciated.

Really great work man.   Looking excellent at first glance.   Nice look for the 'beastII of a level'
Are you up for doing the other 3 unique levels?    ???

Im actually going to be continuing making more maps before solving the newer ones.  Looking forward to doing the whole game from start to finish later!   We will be doing some solid backroute testing and all that fun once we have this all complete.

Reloaded is looking fantastic already !
Thanks for the great help minimac.

:agree:, these look fantastic!  8) Nice job incorporating the flingy objects too, I wouldn't have thought of that.

I reserved a couple of levels (well, one level plus repeat), I have something fun in mind for these :)

Minimac:  You have some other maps which have repeat levels which you have already done the level recreation part.
I have put your name as MAYBE RESERVED - MINIMAC's LEVEL on the original post for those maps.

Not sure if you were planning on doing the puzzles for the repeat levels that you have already recreated.
If not, let us know ! Thanks.

I'm quite impressed that this project is almost completed. Staying close to the given terrain seemed very restrictive at first, especially if you want to design two different puzzles on repeated maps. Nice work!

I'm impressed too! And to complete the Tricky set I have thought of an interesting idea for menacing, replacing a bloody theme with an oriental theme, a graphic style that we don't use very often.

Sooo just 4 left to do!

Let's Block and block and its repeat level (reserved by clam)

And the other 2 unique maps.
I'm going to tackle 'What an awsome level'  from taxing next.   Probably start that tommorow.

Ok had 3 different attempts at re-creating 'what an awsome level'  and i'm useless with this type of artistic re-creation.
The last 2 unique maps are open to anyone to come up with something.  Thanks very much.

I'm now starting to do extra testing on all maps.
See Below

---------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------
Capybara #4 : Construction works
This one really made me think hard.   Really nice idea !

------------------------------------------------------
Capybara #6 : Walking Away From Danger.  Solved on second try.     This one felt very easy.

My repeat level of your map [Beaver #9  (Keep Coming And Pay The Price)]  I actually felt its way too hard for 'tricky' and really felt it's more like a late taxing or mayhem difficulty , so this would be a good place for a switcheroooo.

Anyone care to try the 2 maps and post their thoughts?  Maybe you will see things differently?  Always good to have someone who doesn't know either of the two puzzles to post their findings.
Thanks.

----------------------------------------------------

Capybara #8 : Slow Release Energy

I Believe that I backrouted this, unless the climbers were there to add confusion to it.
Backroute or alternate route, its still good, unless you want to force your real route ?

Didn't solve it fast anyway.  Took about 10 minutes of testing.

Replay attached.

---------------------------------------------------
Capybara #9  - Going Underground
Awsome, way more fun than the original.   This had me really confused for a good half hour actually, until I realized what climber #2 was for.

I hated the original mayhem level of it (curse of the pharoah's)  It was always boring I thought.

----------------------------------------------------
Capybara #12   -   Cold Feet
I would estimate this as late tricky or taxing.   You know what to do right away, but it looks like a hard one to come up with a hidden puzzle with the limited terrain and steel forcing it's obvious route.   Lets keep this in mind for later though, incase we can make something else of a harder puzzle.

------------------------------------------------------
Capybara #13 - Halfway Through The Ruins

Pretty sure I backrouted that.
Replay attached.

------------------------------------------------------
Capybara #14 - A Portion for 1000 Lix

Tougher than it first looks.   Nice
Such a great remake visually too.

------------------------------------------------------
Capybara #16 - Just Two Minutes

Surely backroute, mentioned this when first playing it though.
Replay attached

----------------------------------------------------
Capybara #17 - Hopping On The Steppingstones

#2 priority map to strengthen the puzzle for mayhem standards

Probably backroute.   Maybe given just too many bridges.
Might want to watch the replay.   Was far too easy with all the skills given to get 100%.    Like the use of the springs though

----------------------------------------------------
**Capybara #19** - Security Level Upgraded

#1 priority map to strengthen the puzzle for mayhem standards.

Yep, this is far too simple.   This security system will need another upgrade
Lots of abilities, very easy to get more than you need, and you can basically use the same method as the repeat map.

-------------------------------------------------------

Capybara #21 - With a coating of lemon paint please.

One of my favorites of yours.  I even had to get a hint from you on this one when you first posted the map, remember.    It really confused the hell out of me lol.

Thanks for the feedback on my levels. I've looked at all your solutions and noticed where I went wrong. I've made some changes which will hopefully eliminate all potential backroutes. Here are some changes:

8 and 13: Added steel in certain places
17: Lowered the number of builders to 14.
19: There is now 3 of each skill, rather than 6. The solution required to solve it would still look like a backroute, but it actually isn't.

I decided not to changing level 16 though. Luckily that solution of yours couldn't be possible in under one minute.

Also, can I change the names of some of the levels? I'd rather call Capybara 7 "Have some redsticks" and Beaver 14 an "Oriental Excursion" rather than their initial names.

cool.

Ok heres what i've done with 3 of those.

Halfway through the ruins  :  The solution im now doing might be an alternate route?   Its good, if still an unintended route.

Slow release energy : Not sure if im backrouting, as I still havent found a use for climbers here ?    Again, it still feels quite hard if im using alternate route anyway.

Security level upgraded : Finished first try again, taking the correct route.   I'll try think of a way we can make it more difficult also.

Hopping on the stepping stones : IM STUCK!  good thing heh.   I'll try again some more a bit later.

Thanks for the updates minimac  8)

Midnight Dash : Really awsome, took quite a few tries.  The timer was definitely needed here in my opinion.

Stinky Pinky factory :

One minute is too much : Feels much more rewarding to beat than the other.   I like it.

Take as long as you need : This took me a LOT of re-planning.  First off I kept always missing completion by 1 bridge however many ways I tried to do it.  Figured that out, and  then realized I was always 1 lix too short.   Finally I had a pretty sweet idea and saved 1 extra , and went for a really great quick-run time.

(btw my stats are posted on the main post for maps I have been going through)

Ok, still unable to complete hopping on the stepping stones, after about 3 hours of trying now lol.

Can you double check it works after you made changes to it.   Everything I have tried, stretching bridges out to the max etc, im a single little step off of being able to complete it, if I modify the path a tiny bit, I can then get lix into the exit (56 of 57) but then i need another bridge to get the last lix turned back around instead of just dying.

Very confused indeed on this ^

Overall, I really like what you have done in the mayhem AKA Capybara set!  fun stuff.

Replay  for Mayhem Capybara 17 (stepping stones). I doubt this is the real solution, but I do have a suspicion that you're supposed to do what I did at one point:

Quote from: spoiler
drop two lix on the spring at the same time so one can build. I can't see how you'd do this twice though, without losing too many lix...

GJ :S  if that's actually intended route, its evil!    But minimac, don't change anything.   That's a hell of a hard puzzle actually.

Now i'll post my replay, see if this is actually the intended solution or closer to it, keep in mind it isnt full completion.   I couldn't get 1 more lix in haha.

Here's the map for Fun 18 / Taxing 19. I stared at this for a while and nothing resembling a puzzle jumped out at me, so I'll throw it out here and see what others can make of it. I haven't tried making more than minor changes to the terrain, so maybe that's the way forward. It's made of bamboo (Bamboozal! :D), that's all I really wanted.

Also I went back to do something on the first map I did (Tricky 1) and found that you can just bomb through the middle of the mound and you're done. That won't do – even if it is hard to do with bomber timing! It's probably fixable with a bit of steel or a change to the terrain shape. But, I also want to avoid making the intended solution harder, and also add more skills to make it easier. I'm posting this mainly to remind myself to fix it :P, but if you have solved it the right way (I don't want to give it away still ;)) then feel free to try and fix it.

Great!

I have made puzzles for them now.

Can you at least try the bamboozal version soon Clam.   Theres huge potential for backrouting in a map like this I find.   If you arent able to backroute, you'll probably be pretty amazed at the puzzle i've come up with.  Had to add extra hazards to hopefully make the route solid.

As for 'This should be a doozy'   don't change anything.  It actually took me a while to get that completed.  It's fine for a 2nd difficulty puzzle the way it is, even if you can do a quicker bomb timed route, its not going to make it easy to do.

-----
Can you also try these 2 maps please:

Beaver #9  Keep Coming And Pay The Price
Capybara #6 : Walking Away From Danger.

minimacs 'mayhem' map, then I did the remake puzzle but for 'tricky'
I'm pretty sure my map is harder, if you feel the same way after trying both i'm just going to switch them with eachother.

If not, i'll just leave them as is!

Thanks
Rubix.

I started playing through the set now. I finished the first two stages, and I'm 10 levels into Porcupine.
Not sure whether I'll have the chance to continue during the next few days, so I'm attaching replays of my progress thus far.

Mostly nice and challenging levels, though there are also a few where the solution is mostly just technicalities, and getting the details of the execution right. But I guess the terrain being fixed is a bit of a limitation on what you can do design-wise at times.
On my list I marked a few that I particularly liked: Beaver 6, 29, 30, Porcupine 9, 10 (I probably forgot a bunch, but I only marked when I remembered to :P).

I've completed the Degu levels (and a random handful from the harder sets). Here are my replays for all record-breaking achievements.

Overall, this is a really nice set; it starts easy and gets tough much faster than original Lemmings, so there's some excellent material for Lemmings veterans to get their teeth into. Level 24 took me the longest to solve, and Level 11 is definitely the hardest -- a very nasty use of time limit there, forcing the player to find the absolute fastest solution. (At least SI changes are ruled out, so it didn't take that long as there was very little else available to try -- still, an extremely frustrating experience.)

Capybara replays. I've solved all levels except 17, which is just the sort of thing that shouldn't be allowed in the game. As before, only replays that break records are included.

For the most part, this was another very enjoyable set. I loved 6 (excellent puzzle) and 24 (reminiscent of a certain DoveLems level but far less annoying). 11 was almost exactly the same as what I did with We All Fall Down in my ResEdit sets :)  18 was a lovely challenge, and 21 was another very clever misdirection level. But there were some less good levels. Besides the aforementioned 17, there was 10 (fixed S.I. and not enough time for all lix to enter the level!), 15 (nearly invisible lasers) and 25 (would be fine, but it's the wrong way round with its repeat). And I have very mixed feelings about 2, which turns out to be a mostly fair puzzle when you know the solution, but that isn't enough to overcome my dislike of anything involving fling objects.
