Lemmings Main / Re: Top 5, Bottom 5

02. LoTs moRe wHeRe TheY caMe fRom (Wicked 18) - Title REALLY bugs me, the cave is evil, and I usually run out of miners by the time I get near the water. I've tried the backroute via the top of the cave and I could never pass the level that way :(
From the way some of the slopes on the top seem to be aligned, I don't think it is a backroute; I reckon it's either the intended solution (with the route through the cave, therefore, a backroute) or possibly a deliberate attempt at a level with a high road/low road solution. I'm sure I managed to get it to work at one point, although usually when I go back to it I've basically forgotten how, and end up giving up and just going through the cave...

Sunsoft 13: Doomsday
Lemmings: 50
Goal: 40 (80%)
Time: 5
Rate: 1
Skills: 20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20

Good: Looks funny and artistic.
Bad: Breaks the difficulty curve and is one of the most convincing pieces of evidence I can see that suggests that the Sunsoft rating was conceived purely as a bonus category rather than being necessarily more difficult than any other level. Seriously, though, an easy all-20 level this late in the game?? It's not the only one, too; there are two more later on. Also, I believe you have to build up from the bottom on the right a bit too much for my liking. And it feels very sloppily designed to have the lemmings walking on the letters, which I don't think happens in any other level.

You pretty much need the right-click feature from Amiga and DOS lemmings for that level; it becomes rather a problem when a port of Lemmings hasn't implemented it. It's included on the Mac, which has a key to press (which makes more sense than the right-click thing anyway), but it's impossible on the Playstation, for instance... took me ages to get past it (and on the Playstation you can't just ragequit and use a password because it actually uses saved games.... :scared:)

Win Lemmings featuring the Depeche Mode Midi Soundtrack!, looking on forums and on the many sites that host downloads, none will install or even run on windows 7, until now. I found files, made an installer, viola!

Look here, I posted videos

Viola!

(Sorry, I'm being mean, perhaps...)

Steel areas work differently on the Mac – they're less forgiving than on DOS, where they're implemented quite lazily. I don't think the level is changed at all in the data file, it must just be that the way steel detection works has changed. The lose-1 Wicked 1 solution, IIRC, involves bombing just before the OWW and then bashing through the wrong way – steel detection only occurs on a single row of pixels or something, so the basher isn't detecting either the OWW or the steel area, because the detection pixels are "lower than" the first and "higher than" the second, even though his tunnel overlaps both.

What was your solution to "Compression Method 1"? As i'm aware, this is another one in which the DOS 100% solution involves bashing away the top few rows of pixels of the steel area in a way that you can't do on the Mac.

Hard to say anything for sure about the Mac version due to the hi-res graphics, but it is at least plausible.

Unfortunately I won't be able to test as the "special" levels don't work on my Lemmings -- the background colour acts as solid terrain!
It's never done that for me...

Just held escape for longer than a millisecond and it exited the program... this should at least be disabled on the mac version, where quitting the program is universally cmd+Q. Or perhaps just making it have to register distinct key presses for you to 'escape' more than once, instead of interpreting holding it down as pressing it more than once.

Also, based on what you said earlier – that the latest version is January, the mac is a bit out of date.

The pulsating from dark to light green is a bit annoying.

As for NES and Gameboy results, I definitely am not going to spend time anytime soon going back to try and look up individual level stats, if I can't find them already available effort-free on the web somewhere.  Actually I thought Finlay compiled such stats for various versions of Lemmings in his spreadsheets, so he may be able to assist in that regard.

I don't have Gameboy stats on it, and the NES stats are very incomplete; I think the number of lemmings and the time limit on each level is there, but I only have stats information for the fun levels and their repeats, and I got that from you. :P

I didn’t even know Lemmings was made in England
It wasn't made in England, it was made in Sco— oh never mind, I don't even care anymore.

Funny how these things happen, isn't it? Finlay and I also knew each other on another forum (the ZBB) before happening to run into each other here.
You won't know him, but you may have seen Nortaneous posting on here; he's a regular on the ZBB these days too... 8) :o

On Wild 9 you can use a basher to get out of the lower area, viz. TLE:
