Do you aspire to make a website out of them with one section per webpage, possibly even with cookies tracking the statistics? If yes, turn to 372.

Text files or HTML are easier to read than a PDF. If you wish to scan the books, then of course release the images or a PDF as-is.

That's exactly what I was planning, yeah (although I would need help with something like cookies). The reason this came about is because I've been reading Ryan North's excellent Choose Your Own Adventure-style version of Hamlet, called "To Be or Not to Be". In ebook (kindle/mobi) format, the sections can be linked like a webpage (I'm pretty sure you could do the same thing with a pdf), so I've been reading it by tapping away on my phone's kindle app, if that makes sense.

As for the images, I actually don't have a scanner to hand, but there are a couple of options for that: I think Japanese convenience stores offer the facility in their printers, or if not, I can photograph the images, or I can ask someone else on here to do it. But let's not jump the gun yet...have to actually get the books here before I can do anything with them, and when I get it I'd rather transcribe the text before the images anyway.

So I'm gonna get my mum to post me the old Lemmings gamebooks I have in my bedroom back in the UK. I have a vague plan that I'd like to transcribe them into some kind of digital format (eg pdf, or simple html), since as far as I know, they don't exist in a digital format yet (at least, a google search and a search of the forums turned up nothing, so let me know if I'm incorrect!). Would you be interested in seeing them if I did that? ???

By the way, how do I get this thing to notify me? When I logged on I had two PMs from over a year ago, and even though I've selected notify me of this topic, and notify me of PMs, it hasn't sent me any emails. Yes I've checked my spam box.

Yeah, I am. That's partly why I don't have the free time – got a job and all that... :( (Also been exercising a lot in the evenings instead of playing computer games)

Anyway yeah, I hadn't heard about a new game. I had the PS2 version back in the UK, and never got around to properly trying the eyetoy version beyond the first level (I think it didn't work very well). And while I'm sure I could find a PS Vita fairly easily, whether I'd want to buy it solely to play Lemmings is another question...

Also I still use macs instead of windows, so I think some things never worked properly for me.

I got distracted doing something and ended up here. It's probably been a couple of years since I was last on here. How's everything going? I don't know if I can really stick around – my free time is taken up with other stuff at the moment and I've forgotten how to run Lemmings on my computer (or in fact, I don't think I've ever run it on this machine).

Any news? 8)

There. It still exists! Sound quality's not great; it was a recording via an emulator (because my computer now is too new), so there may be a little bit of skipping in the music, but tbh the quality was never amazing to begin with.

I think I tried to make each track run twice through completely before stopping the recording (but it will just stop suddenly after that). I can't remember if this was exactly how it happened, but I do remember downloading someone else's recordings of the L1 music and finding that they'd cut off one or two of the tracks before they were actually finished; only by a second or two but enough to make it useless for me.

I think i did this for onml. it's probably somewhere in the archives or something.... :XD:

Level Design / Re: No Builders
« on: August 29, 2012, 03:05:29 PM »
I'm honoured you think i'm a "great" level maker ??? that's not a particularly "great" level though, it was something i threw together with only bombers – it's all obnoxious bomber timing/hidden trap ideas.

the level I posted here: http://www.lemmingsforums.com/index.php?topic=563.msg11839#msg11839 is a better example of a builderless level that I've made, I think. I can't remember if I released it as a pack or if it was only as a single level file though. It has some placeholder name like "it's a long way to the top".

anyway i should check back in here more often, i think.

Bad:
-the steel extends out too far on the steel block at the top. (though it doesn't matter that much)
-there's a pointless trap in the lower left corner area. there's no reason to go there other than to explore (I only found it in Lemmix)
-(I could say this for many levels but) in DOs and Lemmix picking the right direction lemming is MAJOR pain
May I just add that it's also the location of a lesser-known graphical bug on the mac, wherein the little wall near the top isn't straight, and a climber will stop climbing halfway up. If he manages to place a single step before falling again, which is slightly difficult because you often miss the chance, the wall becomes climbable, but it's a particularly annoying extra step!

Tech & Research / Re: Version Differences
« on: April 18, 2012, 12:25:49 PM »
Mac
- High-res graphics (with occasional large effects on gameplay, e.g. Mayhem 26)
- Max # of Lemmings reduced to 80
- I haven't played DOS Lemmings to compare, but I believe the musics are in a different order?
The music on the Mac sounds almost indistinguishable from the Amiga version (there are a couple of minor changes that I only notice because I've played it a million times), and they're in the same order. DOS lemmings is the one with a different order.

ccx also mentioned the Atari ST version; as far as I know, this is the most similar to the Amiga version out of any of them, and the biggest difference is that a) it used a different set of passwords for levels and b) you had to use a joystick for player 2 in the two player game. The Amiga is still the only system I know of that's ever supported dual mouse control in this way (if you attach two mice to a modern PC they can only control the one cursor), and I believe that's part of the reason the two player game was never ported for other PC systems like DOS, Mac or Windows (the other being memory constraints, probably, since a two player level could support up to 160 lemmings, 80 for each player). Now we accomplish two player games by networking multiple PCs together.

There's also the PS1 version, which was very similar to the Windows version and was a single game consisting of L1 and ONML together. The main differences were obviously using a controller (although the box said you could get a 'playstation mouse', whatever that was) to select things, and the fact that you're using a TV screen to view it on. The music was like the Windows version but rendered in high quality and recorded as CD tracks instead of being kept as MIDI files. There was an opening animation in which some Lemmings dancing the Can-Can in a theatre accidentally hit a level and fall through a trapdoor. As for the graphics, they always felt stretched out compared to other versions. Also, I don't know if this happened in Windows too, but there were a few odd behaviours thrown up concerning certain skills, builders especially; particularly, it was always incredibly difficult to get them to build up to a wall and bash through without turning around, and usually you had to somehow get him to finish the bridge - he wouldn't turn around immediately if he was finishing. And if you built too near the ceiling (but further away than other versions), your step would be deleted and the lemming would transition to walker; this becomes a problem on Taxing 5, where you need to stretch your bridge - but because you're viewing it on a blurry TV, it's more difficult to stretch the bridge. As for blockers and bombers, there was some issue in which exploding bombers acted like blockers, or something; unexpected behaviour. Phrases like CLANK or YIPPEE never appeared above their heads, incidentally.

Well, this post hasn't been moving for a while. Anyone mind if I continue it ;P?
A while?? It's only been two weeks. I can remember making that last post.

"A while" on quiet forums like this one tends to refer to rather long periods of time...

(In L14, each entrance has another one behind it.  ??? Since there are only two lemmings, this is totally useless (but it would be useless anyway wouldn't it?)
You mean on Lemmix? That could be to force the lemmings to come out in the correct ABAB order (on the Mayhem version where there's more than two lemmings) rather than the weird DOS ABBA order. Basically if you have extra entrances which are in the same place, they're effectively invisible but will change the order in which lemmings enter the level. I used it on a custom level with 4 lemmings, where I wanted 3 lemmings out of one entrance and 1 out of the other – I just placed three entrances overlapping.

You can download Covox lemmings from (I think) the Lemmings Universe website (so yeah, we know about it!). And yeah, Covox was a company. From the same website you can get the Official Companion Demo, which I think was released along with a guidebook, and has the 'Prima Publishing level' after the name of the publishing company that released it. However, unlike the Covox level, which actually looks nice, this is a three-colour bashfest and is really boring.

Yeah, here: http://lemmingsuniverse.net/downloads.html#games
About halfway down, savelem.zip and lemmcomp.zip .

I played it about a year ago; I think IceTown was my favourite, because it's actually challenging and looks artistic (ie, like a town!). Some of the rest are really boring levels with just a few brick blocks or something like that.
