Lix Levels / Chicago-Themed Terrain
« on: November 13, 2020, 08:38:21 AM »
Today I started making a Chicago Elevated Rail terrain set, and I wanted to put a level I made with it out here! It's not super complicated, but I had fun making it!

I'll be busy with other stuff for a couple days, but I'm pretty happy with how the train cars themselves came out in this pack. The ones here are the 2400/2600 series Chicago El rolling stock; I think next I want to make some sprites for the 4000-series cars; they ran from 1914 through the 50s mostly, but weren't completely retired until 1973. The 4000-series cars are my favorite Chicago El rolling stock. Everyone should have a favorite Chicago Elevated Rail rolling stock production line. But anyway, Lemmings! Or in this case Lix! Let me know if anyone wants to see more Chicago terrain stuff!

General Discussion / Evidence is a NOUN, NOT A VERB >=E
« on: March 14, 2009, 02:43:47 AM »
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/evidence

It's not fair... It's a noun, not a verb. You can't just go change it because people feel like using it as a verb. X_X

If it's supposedly a verb used with an object, then what's the Present tense form? Evidence? It just doesn't work as a verb..

Please tell me I'm not insane, that someone other than me cares about this injustice. That someone else knows what 'corroborated' means. And the dictionary.com definition there skews it a bit I think. They say both meanings, but they put emphasis on the 'confirm' part of the meaning. I've never seen corroborate used in a way that means anything but 'prove.' >_<

Sorry for making a poll with a predetermined set of results, but I saw the poll option as I was making the thread and thought "Why not..." So anyway Proven by or Corroborated by would both work depending on the situation.

General Discussion / Britain's new Prime Minister
« on: July 24, 2007, 05:28:04 AM »
Since everyone was in an uproar when the cameras went up, "1984 in the making?" I thought someone might find it interesting that Gordon Brown is now the British prime minister. In an article about the recent flooding on the Thames, I saw a mention "Britain's new prime minister, Brown..." andI wondered if it was the same 'Brown.' So I came here and checked the topic. It was the same person :o, so I decided to check what everyone here thought about that.

I thought he was losing votes?! :scared:

General Discussion / Negative mass?
« on: November 24, 2006, 04:40:53 PM »
I was in a restaurant, and I was thinking about random stuff. Then, my mind reached out and plucked something, I presume, out of my subconscious. I started thinking about black holes, and then a thought came in: "could there have ever been anything that had negative mass? And if there ever was, why isn't it in plain sight now?" Then I realized that if there was negative mass, then the gravitational effect would also be reversed, because of how gravity works (still no idea why it works.) Then, I thought about Einsteins theory with the space fabric and came back around to black holes. If this is a black hole,

_____     _______
        |   |

and it sucks everything in, then would something with infinitely negative mass be like this?

_______|   |______________

(mind that you think of this on a 3D type way)

and push everything away? Then I got to thinking about how two negatives would attract and stuff like that. I got home, and decided to look this up and see if anyone else had thought along the same lines as me.

Einstein and Newton beat me to it.(I should've known, it seems sometimes, like they both had time-travel/thought-reading machines)

Antigravity and conventional physics

In both Newton's law of gravitation and the general theory of relativity (Einstein's theory of gravitation), a requirement for antigravity to be possible is the existence of negative mass. Most scientists regard negative mass as a purely hypothetical concept with no basis in reality. However, there is nothing in physics to say that it is actually impossible. A related idea that has been discussed by theoretical physicists involves gravitational shielding.

"Antigravity and conventional physics

In both Newton's law of gravitation and the general theory of relativity (Einstein's theory of gravitation), a requirement for antigravity(my earlier, depending on what you mean by earlier, idea that negative mass would go away from positive mass) to be possible is the existence of negative mass."

Share your thoughts on this matter  please.

Negative inertia- How might this work? Things that want to slow down if they're moving and vice versa?

Negative infinitely (un?)dense mass- white holes hills(in the generic stuff we label as space fabric)?

Negative mass through gravitational shielding- Possible? or not?

What would happen if you had a cup of negative water and positive mass water, and you mixed them.

Is that last question possible, or would you have different elements on the periodic table that go back past hydrogen that are negative.

This would make my science teacher's head hurt, everything else seems to, but I think she just says that without meaning it. Not making any conclusions about that though. anyways, I think it'll be interesting to see what you think on this matter.

BTW: Just wondered what these looked like:  ;D  :D  :-*  :-[  :-X  :embarassed:
                                                       EDIT: ???     ^

You build a village, and you do stuff with it. Does anyone else have a village? I settled in the north east, and so did Timballisto.

Weird story Idea

Dillon had been feeling what some people would call under the weather for a few days, long enough to take a trip to the doctor he thought. So he did.
]Ugh, what\s wrong with me?^ he thought as he was subjected to a series of tests for different things, all of which he was sure had nothing to do with whatever he had but the one he found most pointless was the DNA test. How does your DNA just go change? Sunrays might affect it somewhat but how would he be getting too much sun, he lived in Michigan. His attitude changed from indignant irritation to a state of slightly worrying when doctor Silgan came back in wearing an odd, puzzled expression.
]MrU.Hockey?^
Once again annoyed, Dillon replied, ]It\s HAKI, haw, key. Why does no one pronounce my name right? Anyway, what was it that you wanted?^
I wanted to tell you why you aren\t feeling good, it\s your DNA.^
]What\s wrong with it? Did it unwind? Is some cell using it as a clothes line or something?^ Dillon said.
]No, not exactly,^
]Not exactly?^ Dillon thought. Doctor Silgan continued,
]You are familiar with the four chemical bases in DNA that make up the rungs, Thymine, Guanine, Adenine and Cytosine, right? How these are the only ones that work?^
]Yes I know about the whole A, T, G, and C thing in DNA, what about it?^
]You seem to have some E\s and D\s and a 4 in your DNA.^
An odd silence emerged from the conversation. It was broken by Dillon,
]Ok, seriously what\s wrong with me?^
]Exactly what I said was wrong. You have a wider range of letters in your DNA^ Doctor Silgan assured him.
]Ok, then what chemical bases do these letters represent? If we figure that out, maybe we can figure out what matches up with them on the RNA, and study what amino acid that would produce.^ Dillon was  a little worried about what this new DNA trend might cause and it compelled him to speak rather quickly and less articulately than he might have otherwise.
]We think that they\re just a bunch of E\s D\s and a 4 although no one has any clue as to how or why. As for the RNA thing, we think that following the alphabet, E would pair up with F and D would pair up with E but that makes no sense.^ It didn\t make sense and the whole affair was wearing on Dr. Silgan\s nerves slightly as he became aware that he was speaking to someone with a 4 in his DNA.
]Will I still live?^ asked Dillon hopefully.
]No, you\re scheduled to die in aboutU you\re about thirty and the average life expectancy is about eighty here so, I think that you only have fifty years left to live.^
At this Dillon came close to panicking as he realized that he only had a limited time to live.
]Well, thanks for warning me of thatUI think. What should I do? How can I make it go away?^ Dillon asked, at which point the doctor responded,
] You can get rid of the cold type feeling by drinking more orange juice but I don\t know about the DNA thing. Perhaps you shouldn\t eat as much alphabet soup and maybe letters won\t show up where they shouldn\t, like the E\s in your DNA. Do you like the E\s in alphabet soup?^
Dillon answered, ]Yes, they\re my favorite part of it, how\d you know I liked alphabet soup so much?^
]It\s really just a coincidence that you like the E\s but I was just curious.. I think it is anyway, you don\t like the D\s do you?^
]Nope, hate e\m. Well, uh thanks, I guess. Bye^, Dillon said. Then he left and went home. The prospect that he was running out of time to live caught him off guard and he was so nervous that he ran into a stop sign, rolled down his window and said ]sorry^ to it. Upon arriving home, Dillon drank a glass of orange juice. Then he reconsidered it and drank the whole carton of orange juice and threw away all the alphabet soup in the house.

General Discussion / Dora the explorer in Mexico
« on: May 18, 2006, 11:57:13 PM »
Just a question I had, how do they (or do they have it period) do Dora The Explorer in Mexico? Half the shows popularity(to the parents atleast) is that Dora speaks Spanish. If the show is shown in Spain or Mexico or any other Spanish speaking country I might have missed, whoopee, big deal, she can speak spanish. How do they do it in Spain and Mexico? do they have her speaking English then? :P

How's it work?

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Sim City 3000! HELP!
« on: March 26, 2006, 12:05:04 AM »
Sim City 3000's building architect is not working! I make the buildings, replace the programs buildings and save it, then I load the set of buildings in the preferences thing and about half of the modifyed buildings are actualy changed. Can anyone help me with this? I asked Timballisto and he didn't know. That was annoying because this is the first time I've ever asked him a computer question he couldn't solve or didn't know.

General Discussion / a question including lemmings and German
« on: December 11, 2005, 03:53:48 AM »
Andi, I've recently learned that "Ach nein! Bogenshootzen" (I am almost sure that I spelled that wrong.) means "Oh no! Archers!". Does this mean that the German version of lemmings has the lemmings say "ach nein!" before they explode?
