NeoLemmix Levels / Re: [NeoLemmix] NepsterLems
« on: August 09, 2018, 07:41:00 PM »
Another pack I'm revisiting now in new formats, I beta tested NepsterLems in January 2016 and played it to some extent after the initial release if I'm deriving my replay time stamps correctly. Now after loads of backroute fixes I've solved 79/111, replays attached. This is the first time I played Moon levels 7-15, they looked a bit daunting at first but turned out to be a lot nicer in the end. I didn't attempt Black Hole levels, because I have still 12 levels unsolved before that final rating, but I still thought of dropping my solutions at this point so they're at least saved here in the forums before my hard drive dies or something. :b

Levels I suspect backrouting: Planet 16: Dying Dream, Neutron Star 10: Broken Pillars, Neutron Star 16: On the Edge of Death

Not quite sure about even some early Planet levels, I'm interested to hear about my solutions when the time comes.

NeoLemmix Levels / Re: [NeoLemmix] Lemmings Reunion
« on: August 01, 2018, 01:36:23 PM »
I played Lemmings Reunion three summers back then in its initial release (V1.0) solving 148/150 first levels in the pack and I always thought of revisiting it. Now, after a loads of backroute fixes and moving to the new formats, I finally decided to play this great pack again.

There was an issue that I didn't think I have to take into account. Sadly, my replays were saved in lrb-format, and they didn't work anymore in current NeoLemmix. Fortunately Nepster provided me NeoLemmix engine that could play lrb-replays but save them in nxrp-files, that are used these days. Still, it was lots of work and some solutions were broken because of physics changes, so I needed to resolve some levels even though they virtually had the same solutions than already in the initial release. This is my fourth day of re-playing Lemmings Reunion, saving working nxrp-replays for 147 levels out of 150, that are attached to this post. Old replays not working in the new engine is a bit unfortunate, and can to some extent reduce motivation to play again old packs, that might have backroute fixes, new levels and such after the first playthrough ages ago. I'm hopeful that I won't enconter this many more times, but it might take a while when daring to have my second go at packs like namida's older Lemmings Plus packs and NepsterLems, where I saved my solutions in lrb-files.

Anyway, levels I didn't yet solve this time after a solid amount of time (I really like to move forward on to new packs):

Nightmare! 4: Stop And Go! - No idea so far.
Nightmare! 21: Rockbiter - So far my solution fails barely due to some pixels/one skill too much used/one lemming too much lost.
Nightmare! 29: Lemtris Version X - This is the level where I got stuck in 2015 and I didn't even try it again... yet. :P It's a beast, yes.

The last level, Nightmare! 30 was fun even though really exhausting, I polished my solution for it for over an hour last night. I never took a look at this level before just now! Really an epic feeling pack finisher level.

Thanks for this pack as always, IchoTolot. :D It's lots of fun just like I remembered! Let me know what do you think of my solutions and which are backroutes.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Re: Block-Man
« on: July 02, 2018, 11:53:02 AM »
Yes, I remember playing this in my childhood reaching level G (seventh) and this decade when re-playing games from my childhood I reached level I (ninth). Now today just resolved A-H again, and my previous save (access to these levels) was existing, still. It's a nice puzzle game, though yea it can get a bit grindy.

I wasn't familiar with Blockdude, though quickly googling it has some of the exact same level designs. Also I remember playing Mice Men like grams88 and Bolo Adventures like ccx, but quite briefly.

Yeah, you're right. My bad, I have no idea how I missed scoring discussion at the beginning. :lem-mindblown:

Ohh, in the original Drawful game you get points for answering the correct answer, not the most guessed one. That's why everyone were supposed to make plausible answers, so that people would choose their answer. Person whose wrong answer is guessed by someone else, gets also points.

In Jackbox games you get 1000 points for guessing the correct answer and the person who drew the picture gets 1000 points times the number of people who guesses the correct answer. The person whose wrong answer is guessed gets 500 points times the number of people who guesses that wrong answer.

But we're still going for the Family Feud scoring trying to get the most popular answer?

ccx has sensible-feeling reasonings, my previous Feud indeed had short questions. However, Simon guessed 80% right.

1. Name a metric unit prefix. - Akseli
2. What's your least favourite skill in Lemmings 1? - geoo
3. Name an animal with 4 letters. - geoo
4. When will Simon get his PhD (he's currently finishing his thesis)? - geoo
5. Name a Justin Bieber song. - Akseli
6. Name a Greek goddess. - Akseli
7. Name a Lemmings Forums member that hasn't been active for a long time. - Akseli
8. A policeman caught you crossing a red light. What do you say to him? - geoo
9. Name a Finnish word. - geoo
10. Name anything that could distract Simon during his Jazz Jackrabbit speedrun attempts. - Akseli

My comments:

Q1 - [20:18:09]    <SimonN> "metre" wtf, and it got several answers
Good variety in answers, even though I thought this to be "an easier" question and set it as a number 1. I am a natural sciences student, I like unit prefixes. :P

Q5 - I got this "aha moment" from the discussion about my 2015 Feud from #lix IRC channel Monday the 26th of January 2015:

[23:05:31]    <mobius_> Minim should be banned for mentioning One Direction
[23:06:16]    <Akseli> mobius_: I was thinking of putting in my next Feud a question: "Name a Justin Bieber song."
[23:06:38]    <geoo> ok we'll make sure you won't become quizmaster ever again

Q6 - [20:23:54]    <SimonN> wtf Hera is minimum answer, what has everybody been smoking
Another standard question. There was the risk of answering Roman equivalents of gods for example, like ccx mentioned, or seemingly even male gods, like grams88 answered. I agree with Simon, I briefly considered Hera, she's the queen of Greek gods after all, but thoght that Aphrodite would be better known for her relation to love and planet Venus, for example. I'm surprised that Athena got that many answers.

Q7 and Q10 - Deviant questions compared to my earlier Feud questions, now forum related ones. People were marveling the enormous diversity in answers that Q10 generated in the lix IRC chat, I concur.
[20:29:10]    <SimonN> Eva Earlong is quality answer
[20:30:35]    <SimonN> I'm surprised how inventive people are here
[20:32:04]    <SimonN> the pizza delivery is a strong answer but I have deliberately never ordered Pizza immediately before the runs, only once before the Lix
[20:33:39]    <SimonN> earthquake, there are no earthquakes here; and computer crash and antivirus are unlikely on Linux
[20:34:04]    <SimonN> not even a power outage cut my computer time within the recent 10 years, it's really rare
[20:34:20]    <SimonN> Lix fanfiction is strong because it's true

geoo's Q4:

I refrained from answering "never" wrt Simon's PhD since that felt more like the old, long-running in-joke amongst the long-timers here (and the parentheses in the question would especially seem to suggest to new members here that Simon is indeed close), and I expected there would be a lot more non-long-timers participating this round.  But I should've figured that the people who didn't answer "never" would have too much a spread of different answers compare to those who stuck with "never".

[21:17:28]    <Akseli> I think that if and when next time a Feud question begins with a word "When", "never" should be not allowed to answer
[21:17:54]    <Akseli> too dumb a shortcut for a questions about time
[21:17:56]    <SimonN> because it's so compelling? Hm
[21:18:31]    <SimonN> "name a state in Cntral America", that's easy, Mexico, "Hint: Mexico is not part of Central America and can't be an answer."
[21:20:06]    <SimonN> It's certainly possible to forbid answers and threaten with zero points
[21:21:10]    <Akseli> I don't even know if it's allowed
[21:21:38]    <Akseli> the most popular answer is the most popular even if it would be a factual error or something else
[21:21:38]    <SimonN> the Quizmaster can bend the rules as long as he explains everything nonstandard thoroughly
[21:22:35]    <Akseli> you asked "Name a jump and run game other than Super Mario" I guess
[21:23:33]    <SimonN> yeah, I ran a round where I thought of questions with obvious first answers, and then forbid those answers
[21:23:44]    <Akseli> yes, good

geoo and I have the password for Quizmaster if someone wants to host next round, I'm not that willing to do it immediately again even though I ended up at the top of the scoreboard in half my own Feud.. :o

Lix Main / Re: Lasers, how to animate
« on: February 08, 2018, 11:29:49 PM »
From #lix IRC channel:

[01:04] <Akseli> SimonN: the latter but a lot slower anim
[01:11] <Akseli> then it would be clear that it's lethal, but the animation doesn't need to be epilepsy-causing :P
[01:11] <Akseli> one cycle per second or even slower

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Re: Level Designing of a different kind
« on: January 16, 2018, 05:51:35 PM »
Commander Keen is my second favourite DOS game series, also the only one in addition to Lemmings whose user made content I've really played. Unofficial The Universe is Toast trilogy is somewhat well-known even outside Keen community, and especially its last episode is phenomenal. To date maybe the biggest and most awaited mod has been Atroxian Realm, which I played a year ago, and I myself rated it the best game I've played in years. Commander Keen obviously is highly suggested if you're into old school jump and run games, and those mods are highly suggested if you love Commander Keen.

NeoLemmix Levels / Re: [NeoLemmix] Lemmings Plus Series
« on: January 08, 2018, 09:33:42 PM »
I guess this is the topic to post replays and discuss any of Lemmings Plus levels nowadays, so they're all collected in the same topic (?).

When nominating 'Level of the Year' levels and looking at level packs released in 2017, I realized that I somehow never played LPOII after I pre-release tested the two highest ranks, so last Christmas holidays I finally tried the levels that weren't in my pre-release testing ranks.

I have attached my solutions in this post, so if you namida have time and interest to watch these at some point, I'd like to hear if they're acceptable solutions or so. The replay package also contains those solutions of the higher ranks I recorded back in the pre-relase test that work still in the newest version, though some of them I needed to re-adjust a bit (for example, check out Sharp20: The Lem Goldberg Contraption, I again did the ending part a bit differently now).

I'm especially interested in my solutions for the following levels:

Fluffy6: Yes We Can! - Found a pixel precise solution rather than a clean one.
Coarse3: A Mind Of Their Own - A certain skill saved, and this was a tricky solution in this part of the pack.
Coarse12: Lemming All-Sorts - Wow, amazing level but really tough (for its place), if my solution is the intended one, see that certain trick there with my third last skill assignment.
Coarse15: The Troublesome Trio Strikes Back - Seems to be a shortcut, seems that there's many possibilities for this kind of stuff.
Spiky2: The Space Bar - Tight in many places, I'd believe this is not the intended solution?
Spiky13: Zombie Fence - Didn't use all the skills, still could be intended, great level!

Levels for v10 or older / Re: [NeoLemmix] SEB Lems v1.9 (175 levels)
« on: January 02, 2018, 10:35:49 PM »
My solutions attached so far, better sooner than later, I'm not sure when I'll have more time and energy to continue.

Pre-release testers and other solvers have obviosly done good job, solutions didn't feel backroutey and like people have implied here and in IRC, levels get hard much earlier than one would think, they aren't exactly very quick and small either, and there's lots of them. :) So far my favourite is maybe Bittersweet 19: The Friday Feel Good Lounge with its delightfully dynamic solution with effective and diverse skill usage.

Okay, solved 37/40 of them now, my solutions are attached. Mostly backroutes I guess but still pretty enjoyable pack so far!

NeoLemmix Levels / Re: [NeoLemmix] Lemmings Migration
« on: October 08, 2017, 10:29:45 PM »
My solutions for Migration V2.1, didn't yet solve Migraine 2: The Abandoned Sanctuary, Migraine 4: Six Days Without An Accident and Migraine 10: One Way Civilization. This replay package doesn't include replays for those levels that my earlier replays solved again in V2.1.

Headache3: Prisoners and Headache 6: You Know The Drill I solved later than other levels in the first 3,5 ranks, I found those tricky but I loved the solutions I finally found for them! Also Irritation 5: An Incident In The Mine felt a bit hard for its place.
