Lemmini / Re: SuperLemminiToo v1.01
« on: October 09, 2021, 04:39:06 AM »
Hey, great work! I am one of the old style players! Welcome back, timed bombers!

I will try and give feedback to this new engine as soon as possible. :D

I think the solution for Aries 1 is this, but I'm confused about...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Got me thinking for a while. Nice level, a bit hard -only for me, since I am still not used to the new skills :-[-

Wouldn't it be great to have Lemmings dressed as Scots with kilts and bagpipes marching through the levels?

Hey, at least the Attractor is 100% dressed as an True Scotsman!

Now, it's my turn to create a poll! There are a lot of Lemmings 2 versions -less than for Lemmings 1, yes, but still a lot-, and some of them have unique music for some tribes. In comparison with Amiga soundtrack, SNES, for example, has the traditional folk song "Country Gardens" (by Percy Grainger) as the main theme for Outdoor Tribe, as well as different melodies for Cavelem, Space, Sports and Classic Tribes, whereas the Mega Drive/Genesis port of the game has unique songs for almost all tribes: Classic, Outdoor, Sports, Medieval, Cavelem, Shadow and Beach.

Maybe those ports deserve a separate poll, but meanwhile, which Lemmings 2 tribe music from the Commodore Amiga is your favourite?

I would say Sports Tribe Theme in first place: I like its vibes, and I think it fits perfectly the dynamic spirit of sport. Cavelem Tribe Theme comes second in my preferences: maybe it's the more "tribal" music of the game. And in third place, I would say Highland Tribe, because I like that lovely medley of "Scotland The Brave" and "You Take The High Road".

Lemmings Main / Re: What lemmings games have you completed?
« on: September 24, 2021, 10:18:09 PM »
I was thinking "why this topic is not yet another poll?", and then I remembered there were a lot of ports of Lemmings 2 alone!

I completed:

Lemmings (Mega Drive, Master System, NES, MS-DOS, Amiga, Windows 95)
Oh No! More Lemmings! (MS-DOS, Amiga)
Xmas/Holiday whole saga (MS-DOS, Amiga)
Covox Lemmings (MS-DOS)
Lemmings Companion (MS-DOS)
Lemmings 2 (Mega Drive, Master System, SNES, MS-DOS, Amiga)

I played 3D Lemmings on MS-DOS and PlayStation, but I never liked it, nor I never liked ANWOL/Chronicles. Never managed to solve any level on any of them; I find them too complicated, and even boring.
On the other hand, on Lemmings Revolution for Windows, I solved a lot of levels, but nevercared enough to complete it.

A few tries to a demo of Lemmings Paintball, but that's all.

Lemmings Main / Re: [POLL] Your Favourite Lemmings 2: The Tribes tilesets?
« on: September 23, 2021, 01:03:33 PM »
Never thought about this, but I am very fond of Egyptian sprites. However, it's not my favourite tribe (hey, here is an idea for another poll!). In second place I would say Medieval, which is very rich in middle age details, and very colourful. And in third place, the sprites for Circus, which is my favourite tribe (and also the easiest by far, but that has nothing to do with my choice).

I voted for Brick. Brick and Bubble have a lot of color harmony.

By the way: is Bubble the only tileset without steel terrain sprites? I don't remember any level from ONML with steel plates. Which is quite strange, isn't it?

The Mega Drive/Genesis Lemmings is the better port of all. The ultimate version, the one with the best and most puzzling levels.

Bold statement! Can you elaborate on why you think it's the best of all?

The unique levels it has are of a superb quality. It's a wise decision that some of them replace here and there some of the less interesting levels of Original Lemmings. For example, between Steel Works and Let's Get Together, I obviously prefer the second one. Sega Genesis has not only one unique and full difficulty level, but TWO! Sixty brand new levels, plus the ones scattered along the other four difficulty levels.

Sega Genesis Lemmings has at least 4 of the best and most original levels ever made for the original 8-skill engine: "I Am A.T.", "Lemmings Ark", "Private Room Available", and the two "Fall And No Life" versions. Also, it has "Let's Go Camping", with its childish and unbeliveable backroute, yes, but also with the most elaborated intended solution I've ever seen! And I'm sure I'm missing a lot more to make a point!

Other highlights: "No World Without You", "Anxiety", "Evil Whisper", "The bridge is breaking down"

Lemmings Main / Re: [POLL] What is your favourite original tileset?
« on: September 20, 2021, 12:52:31 PM »
Marble is the prettiest tileset of the Original game; I vote for it. Crystal is also beautiful, but a little dark. But the most iconic and popular for making levels I think it's Pillar. It's not surprise it was the chosen one in Lemmings 2 for the Classic tribe, due to the clean and clear shapes it has.

For me the original Amiga version is the ultimate version. I don't know how you can play the game without a mouse, especially the harder levels.

I think Lemmings and Lemmings 2 could be played on Mega Drive via Sega Mouse, or something like that. But I was referring to the rich and huge variety of levels and clever solutions they have. In my opinion, Mega Drive has the best collection of intriguing levels of all ports, hands down.

I think Lemmings 2 are superior to the Original Lemmings, and on par with Oh No! and Xmas/Holidays, since their variety and difficulty are better than in the Original Game. However, the Mega Drive version of the Original game is outstanding, the ultimate Lemmings I version.

In Development / Re: [NeoLemmix] The new NeoLemmix Community Pack Topic
« on: September 15, 2021, 11:26:01 AM »
Hello there! I reworked and released last year, in my first levelpack, the levels I posted some time ago in the former NeoLemmix Community Pack Topic. But I still have three levels that didn't make the final cut. Since they require some stage improvements, I am not going to publish them yet. They were intented to be played on Lemmix, but I think they could be somewhat fun and easy enough to be included in the easiest pack(s) of this NeoLemmix project. Of course, I will also release their Lemmix and SuperLemmini versions.

Just give me a few days to retouch the levels. Meanwhile, here are the working titles:

-Down To The Bone
-Black Lungs
-Orpheus Had Eurydice

They are in Lemmix format.

It is still possible to load and convert them to NeoLemmix format with the new version of NeoLemmix editor?

Lemmings Main / It sounds similar, isn't it?
« on: July 08, 2021, 06:40:04 PM »
Lemmings saga is well known not only for its original gameplay, but also because of its outstanding soundtrack, with both original and arranged tunes.

And also because of its songs inspired by other ones? Well, maybe. There are some parts of the first ever tune in Oh No! More Lemmings! (i.e. the tune in Down And Out Lemmings) that sound very similar to the keyboard intro and interludes in "Always The Sun", by The Stranglers. At least, it reminds me of that beautiful song.

Lemmini / Re: [SUG] The re-introduction of Timed Bombers
« on: May 05, 2021, 01:59:37 PM »
Thank you for showing interest in this feature. I think the third option is the best for preserving the legacy of the original game, but also offers the possibility of designing levels with no timed bombers at all. The check option for the player of having always no timed bombers instead of timed ones (even when the designed level requires timed ones) may put an end to these controversy; to each his own.

Perhaps you could create a poll about this. I'd vote for the third option.
