Lix Levels / Re: Rubix's puzzles, migrating to D Lix
« on: November 28, 2017, 07:38:04 PM »
Played through the Pleasant and Sinister rank (as of v. 0.9.2). Attached replays to the Sinister rank; some are of older versions but should work with 0.9.x.

The levels were generally fun and I really enjoyed them. They had a really nice mix of interesting mechanics with classical gameplay. Only the crowds sometimes didn't seem to work out (though there were interesting uses as well): Sometimes at the end of a level I only had to assign the same skill over and over again.

Just for clarification:

I didn't intend to play Lix on that computer. I only wanted to test things out out of curiosity.

I try to support everything that has 4096 as a maximum length, and have rearranged very wide gadgets (NaOH's tar and tentacle hatch) to stay within 4096 width and height.

Yeah, that's actually quite nice of you. It makes it possible that I can play certain levels on my old laptop at all.

Just an addition:

I tried Lix on the very old family computer (about 15 y/o; graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X with 128 MB VRAM) and if I wanted to open/if I clicked on a bigger map like "Any Way You Want" then:

0.6.36 gave me following error message:

13.37 :0:
13.37 Access Violation
13.37 0x67301E04 in al_get_bitmap_flags
0x004A6FCB

0.9.3 gave me:

8.28 src\basics\alleg5.d:26:
8.28 Out of video memory. Can't create bitmap of size 3200x400 with flags 5120.
8.28 0x00404361
0x004C3CF6
0x004DE3D3
0x00427F5A

Smaller maps like "Canadian Glade" seem to load.

I have solved the version of Nov 24, 2017 of "Eye of the Needle".

I'm not sure if it's intended but if it is then:

Edit: Was backroute; level got fixed against this in the meantime.

Attached versions of "Korean Border Crossing" and "Abridged Version (V1)" with the upper bridges being smooth instead of shifted if that's aesthetically more pleasing + solving replays.

Maybe an update post concerning things provided after last repackage:

- attempted fix + replay to "Korean Border Crossing" (reply #176)
- another replay to "Shelf Life" (reply #176)
- Clam's intended replay collection (reply #177)
- attempted fix +replay to "Wrap Your Head Around This One" (reply #180)
- attempted fix + replay  to "Square Dancing" (reply #181)
- variant to "Korean Border Crossing" + replay (reply #183)
- variant to "Abridged Version (V1)" + replay (reply #183)

Lix Main / Re: Mass Verifier shows fail despite solving replay
« on: November 26, 2017, 03:16:03 AM »
Some replays leave stray lixes on the game field, don't nuke, and don't have a path for the lixes to exit or die. These replays will never terminate. I have to define an arbitrary cutoff, or the replay checker would get stuck on such replays.

Yeah, that was actually clear to me; I just meant something like increasing the time to 10 min instead of 5 min, to just give a wider frame of grace. But of course, it's your decision; it was just a suggestion and I know that this case is prone to slippery slope.

Yeah, I suspected that something like that could be the issue.
Hm, wouldn't it be another option to just increase the time until it stops?

Lix Main / Mass Verifier shows fail despite solving replay
« on: November 26, 2017, 02:36:33 AM »
Sorry for bringing up another thing but that just occured to me:

I solved Rubix Sinister level "Holly Jingle?" (v.0.9.3) and the replay was automatically saved in solved/rubix/Sinister.
When I mass verify it then it shows fail whereas when I look at it it succeeds.

I've attached the replay.

verifier.txt shows only 5300 Phyus but it lasted 5457 Phyus.

Lix Main / Re: Splat rulers (feature wish)
« on: November 26, 2017, 12:55:44 AM »
Only one thing I noticed when playing one of Rubix' levels:
If the background has a similiar color to the ruler, the ruler is only barely visible on that side.
But it is still visible due to having different shades. So it's maybe no problem at all.
I've attached a picture to demonstrate. (It's the upper one in this case.)
For me it's still fine since I can still see the ruler, just showing it for general assessment.

Lix Main / Access Violation Error in Allegro 5 audio init
« on: November 25, 2017, 10:50:38 PM »
I hesitated to report this since I was using one of the test versions of lix and it's as well possible that my laptop had just "hiccups" then.

But since I got an error message I could as well post it; maybe it's of interest, maybe not.

It just happened when I started the game.

Looked through the log file and a message that could be related to it is:
0.18 Allegro 5 can't install audio

This gets printed from src/hardware/sound.d:
Code: [Select]
// assumes Allegro has been initialized, but audio hasn't been initialized
    if (! al_install_audio())
        log("Allegro 5 can't install audio");

The rest from that day seems to be mostly complaining that translations are missing (due to v.0.9.2) and that I had a zip-file in the level folder, which couldn't be read.

I've used the splat rulers at times for a while and they have proven very useful for me.
I still think they should be toggleable:
I've only used the version in levels where it seemed important to know splat height since having them always on seemed a bit distracting/confusing but it was always manageable.

It looked like in the race with geoo you actually made a new time of about 16:50 if didn't get it wrong. So a 2 minute improvement; it looks almost as if a sub-15 would be possible.
