Closed / [SUGGESTION][EDITOR] Change insertion window to background color
« on: November 07, 2016, 01:21:08 PM »
Right now, the editor's background changes to whatever the tileset's background is, which is great, but I have one more suggestion, please change the background of the insert terrain/object window from pure black to the background color as well. One of the tilesets I am working on has some pure black pieces, and it is really frustrating to not be able to see which one you are selecting on the insert window. For my sake and the sake of those who use this tileset, please make this change.

Live Event Scheduling / Arty's streams
« on: September 21, 2016, 10:09:41 PM »
Since rtw hasn't done any lemmings streams in a few months (due to being very busy), I have decided to start my own custom lemmings streams. If you send me your custom levels via email (send to colorfularty@gmail.com) or PM I would be happy to play them. Make sure you include your Lemmings Forums name, the level in question, the engine it is for, as well as any others necessary files such as custom music or graphic sets. I will play Lemmini, SuperLemmini, or NeoLemmix levels, so you have some options. Replays are also useful for me, as I don't consider myself to be great at Lemmings, but not necessary. Don't be afraid to send lots of levels, as I am more than happy to archive them. :)

I stream on my Twitch account: https://www.twitch.tv/colorfularty
If you follow me, Twitch should notify you when I go live as well.

Before I do any streams though, I want to get some feedback from you guys. First of all, is this something people are even interested in? Second, what day/time works the best for the most people. I am quite flexible, especially on the weekends, but if I stream on weekdays, then I will have to plan around classes and make sure to book recording rooms in advance. I'll post a poll for which days work the best.

Closed / [BUG] Mining through 1 pixel of arrow wall
« on: September 01, 2016, 11:09:17 PM »
When recording Lemmings Plus I, I randomly stumbled across an obscure glitch. If a lemming mines through 1 pixel of terrain and said terrain has arrows facing away from the lemming who is mining, the result is the miner will fall through the terrain, but the terrain itself doesn't break. This resulted in one lemmings falling through the 1 pixel while the others were stuck up above.

Link to the glitch in question (the glitch occurs at 30:24)

NeoLemmix Styles / Lego tileset 1.3 available for download
« on: July 12, 2016, 11:50:42 PM »
I am currently making a Lego tileset for NeoLemmix, and I want some input on what to add. I am definitely  making blue, red, yellow, green, orange, purple, white, black, dark grey, and light grey pieces for the final product and I want to know, should I add more colors? If so, what colors? Adding more pieces for each color will be easy via updates, but adding new colors could be problematic due to the arrangement of the pieces in the editor.

Also, if anyone has any specific pieces or ideas for what the exit should look like, please let me know. In the case of the former, a photo would be helpful.

Here is what it looks like right now.

In Development / Colorful Arty's new levelpack
« on: July 02, 2016, 09:26:06 PM »
Hey everyone! :D

Just wanted to let people know, I have officially started work on a new levelpack for NeoLemmix! I will be posting here occasionally to let people know how progress is going.

I'm not going to say too much now, but I will say this. It will use custom tilesets as well as the main 9, I have already selected the difficulty names, and it will be very different from other levelpacks...

Also, I have finished only five or six levels for it so far, so it will not be released for a LONG while.

Levels for v10 or older / [NeoLemmix] SubLems
« on: June 27, 2016, 02:24:18 AM »
You guys wanted this, so here it is!

SubLems is my levelpack containing 130 levels that use the original Lemmings and Oh no! More Lemmings! tilesets. The pack has a gentle difficulty curve. It starts pleasant and easy, but gets very hard at the end. As such, it is friendly to new players, but also has some levels to stump the experts as well.

What has changed for this version? A few levels have been moved around due to new NeoLemmix features such as walking bombing. Several levels had to be replaced due to the solutions not working in NeoLemmix. Also, a small handful of levels incorporate the new NeoLemmix skills, so look forward to that.

:compat-ver-10-13::compat-yes:

Download instructions:

There are separate downloads for the levels and music. Each level has its own music track, so I highly recommend getting the music, even if the download is a few megabytes. All of the music should be safe to use in Youtube videos too.

Download the levelpack here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yh28vsa12m273t6/Sublems%20V2.2.nxp?dl=1

Download all of the music here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tsifask8mu6nkyh/Sublems%20Music.zip?dl=1

Install instructions:

Simply put the .nxp file in the NeoLemmix folder, select it when you boot up NeoLemmix, and start playing!

If you downloaded the .zip file with all of the music, extract it all into the folder titled "music" (without the quotes) in the main NeoLemmix folder, and the music should automatically be played in the pack.

Have fun, and all feedback is appreciated! :D

Here are some sneak peaks at the various difficulties in SubLems:

Newbie

Are you new to Lemmings? Is this your first custom levelpack? Do you want a refresher on the basics of Lemmings? Do you want to get to know NeoLemmix? Do you want to appreciate architecture and/or great music? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you should play this difficulty. This has 10 tutorial levels that introduce you to the basic mechanics of Lemmings and SuperLemmini. Even if you are an expert, I still recommend you play this pack; it is really short, has great music, and at least one level returns in a later difficulty.

Just don't expect all of the levels to be walks in the park

Difficulty: early Fun

Sweet

The first of the main difficulties, which all have 20 levels! Sweet is a warm and inviting difficulty, which builds on what you learned in Newbie. You'll find beautiful architecture and music, as well as simple levels that can be easily solved. Sweet also rewards players for their intelligence; a smart player can use more advanced techniques to solve levels more quickly and easily than beginners. Also, don't expect all of the levels to be easy as pie; the levels get challenging at the end.

All aboard the SubLems express!

Difficulty: Fun-Tricky

Scary

Gone are the warm and inviting levels of Sweet; these levels are starting to get intimidating. Suddenly, environments are more hostile, traps are starting to pop-up, and tasks are getting more scarce. The levels may start as easy as Sweet, but they quickly climb in difficulty, which will give players much more challenge than the Sweet levels. This is also where you will start to encounter puzzle levels, which force you to find new ways of using these tasks. Get that brain working; you'll need to...

It looks peaceful, but that might change when you see the skill set...

Difficulty: Tricky-Taxing

Chaotic

As the name implies, this is where the levels start to get chaotic. Now, skills are even more limited, the release rates are high, more and more hatches need to be attended to, and now, time isn't always on your side. You'll encounter even harder puzzles now, and they only get harder from here on out. Think hard, and get used to hitting that pause button; it will become your best friend before this difficulty is over.

If you want to go through the fire and flames, you'd best do it quickly...

Difficulty: Taxing-Mayhem

Insane

This is where we separate the boys from the men and the girls from the women. No more punches are pulled; these levels are downright diabolical! Highly advanced tricks are needed for these levels, as well as speed, patience, and extreme intelligence. These levels will give even experts trouble, and novices have no chance, since Insane demands tricks even more advanced than those used in the official games!

I AM PIPE MONSTER! I WILL DESTROY YOUR LEMMINGS AND HOPE!

Difficulty: Mayhem-Sunsoft

Hellish

Welcome to Hell. Abandon all hope of leaving unscathed. This is where the game shows its true colors. All of the most diabolical and devious puzzles have been saved for last. Experts will tremble at the might of Hellish! Even the music is showing how tense the levels are now, and the environments are as crazy as the difficulty. Do try to finish, as the final level is quite spectacular. Prepare to be here for a while, possibly FOREVER!

You thought Lemmings' Ark was hard? Try beating it with only ONE miner!

Difficulty: WELL BEYOND SUNSOFT!!!

Retro

Bonus time! Savvy Lemmings players will get deja vu here, as this difficulty contains an extra 20 levels from Lemmings and Oh no! More Lemmings! with different skill assignments. This has its own difficulty curve, and while it starts easy, it becomes brutally difficult at the end.

Don't let nostalgia cloud your brain, you'll need the neurons.

Levels for v10 or older / [NeoLemmix] Reverse Lemmings
« on: June 11, 2016, 02:40:31 AM »
It's finally here!

Reverse Lemmings is a levelpack containing the levels from the original DOS Lemmings with the exits and entrances swapped and different skill assignments. Have fun solving these classic levels in a totally new and (hopefully) interesting and fun way! The difficulty is similar to the original Lemmings, but expect quite a few really hard levels in the earlier difficulties and several very easy levels in the later difficulties. I did my best, but some levels are very difficult to make hard.

As an added bonus, the NeoLemmix version features a few levels that include NeoLemmix-exclusive features, such as platformers and pickup skills.

I highly recommend the DOS music for this pack, but it is far from necessary. You can download it here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/twepi07aesocdl9/DOS%20Music.zip?dl=0

Let me know what you think, and above all, have fun! :D

Help & Guides / SuperLemmini lag
« on: May 26, 2016, 02:41:33 AM »
For those of you who watched my Lemmings Let's Play or are watching my SubLems Let's Play, you can attest I am having some serious problems with SuperLemmini lagging. When I play casually (not recording), it runs perfectly, but when I run it with Open Broadcaster and Audacity in the background, it begins to run at half the speed it normally does (no joke). Does anyone have any suggestions to eliminate or at least minimize the game lag?

Lemmini / [SuperLemmini] SubLems
« on: May 12, 2016, 12:46:34 PM »
Finally, after 2.5 years of making levels, editing them, finding music, testing, tweaking, and perfecting, SubLems is finally available for release!

SubLems is a large pack with 130 levels across 7 difficulties exclusive for SuperLemmini. The pack has a very gentle learning curve, so even beginners can play and have fun. But be warned, don't take the pack too lightly; the later difficulties have levels hard enough to stump even the most skilled Lemmings experts! Each level has its own unique music track that plays only on that level, so boredom will never be a problem! There are also BOSS FIGHTS! One per main difficulty.

Download instructions:

Download the full version of SubLems here (I highly recommend the full version as it features great music that perfectly fits every level):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bmdia0aioqupxm1/SubLems%20Full.zip?dl=0

If you don't want the music (which massively cuts down the download time) you can download SubLems Lite here (Recommended if you plan on playing this on Youtube, since you won't get copyright claims):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3yujapvjh82l0hr/SubLems%20Lite.zip?dl=0

If you downloaded a previous version and just want the updated levels, download them here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/93xc1q3gwqj3450/SubLems%201.2%20levels.zip?dl=0

Install instructions:

Step 1: download the latest version of SuperLemmini at http://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=1793.0
I'm not sure if it will work for early versions of SuperLemmini, but I know for a fact it works on versions 0.102a and 0.102b.

Step 2: extract the folder titled "SubLems" (without the quotes) into the "levels" folder in SuperLemmini.

Step 3: extract the folder titled "sublems music" (without the quotes) into the "music" folder in SuperLemmini. (Only for the full version of SubLems)

Step 4: extract the folder titled "all" (without the quotes) into the "styles" folder in SuperLemmini.

The folder titled "SubLems Replays" contains all of my replays for every level, which contain the official solutions to each level. It is not necessary to extract it to play SubLems, neither is the README file.

And that's it! Have fun playing! :D

I want feedback! I cannot tell you how much I want your feedback on this pack, both good and bad. Tell me what you liked, what you didn't, what I could do better, and why. I want to know your favorite and least favorite levels so I can learn to be a better designer. Also, if you solve a level and think you backrouted it; please send me a replay or a link to a video of said solution. I know there are a lot of backroutes in the game, and I intend on releasing updates to patch backroutes.

Here are some sneak peaks at the various difficulties in SubLems:

Site Discussion / Trouble making a large post
« on: May 12, 2016, 05:01:05 AM »
I'm ready to release SubLems, but for some reason, the site will not let me post it. Whenever I try, it spends about a minute or two processing, and then brings me to a new post page with everything empty. I think this is because my attachment size is too big (it is over 200 MB, due to the music which ARE in .ogg form). Is there anyway to post something that large?

Lemmings Main / What should Colorful Arty play?
« on: April 07, 2016, 09:56:33 PM »
Hi friends!

I'm thinking of doing a Let's Play with commentary on Youtube of a custom Lemmings levelpack. Any suggestions which one I should play or which ones you would be interested in seeing me play? Right now, I'm contemplating either Reverse Lemmings (my own creation) or Pimolems (which I have beaten). Please let me know what pack you want me to play if any, but keep in mind if I'm going in blind, I don't want to play a pack that is insanely difficult (it would take me months to beat it if so, and/or I will have to look up solutions).

Lemmini / [SuperLemmini] Reverse Lemmings
« on: April 04, 2016, 12:15:18 AM »
It's here! And much sooner than I expected! :D

Reverse Lemmings contains all 120 levels from the original Amiga Lemmings, but with a new twist; the entrances and exits have been swapped! With this simple gimmick, you can also expect to see different skill sets, time limits, release rates, and maybe even number of lemmings on a given level. You can expect to visit parts of the levels you never had to in the original game! (I also tweaked a tiny bit of terrain on a small handful of levels, but only the eagle-eyed will ever notice, and believe me, it was in everyone's best interest that I did so.)

Reverse Lemmings has a difficulty much more close to the original Lemmings than to your typical custom levelpack, but there are a few good puzzles in there to throw you off. Also, the difficulty curve is all over the place, since there are some levels in the late game that are almost impossible to make difficult, while some levels in Tricky and Taxing are much more difficult by comparison.

Download instructions:

1. Click the download link in the attachments below
2. Unzip the file and put Reverse Lemmings into your SuperLemmini "levels" file, and replace the "mods" file in SuperLemmini with the "mods" file you download. (Or add the contents of the downloaded "mods" file into your "mods" file) (Thanks IchoTolot!)
3. And that's it! Just launch SuperLemmini, and Reverse Lemmings will appear in your levelpacks when you hit select level

I did not include music for this pack, but I would highly recommend the DOS soundtrack for these levels. ;)

Please give me feedback on the levels by posting in this page, or by private messaging me! I would love to hear your inputs! :D

Also, I doubt that anyone playing this pack will get stuck, but if you do and really want help, by all means, private message me which level you are stuck on, and specify whether you want the complete solution, or just a hint or two, and I will be only too happy to comply! :D

I think that's all, so enjoy Reverse Lemmings! :D

In Development / Reverse Lemmings: "Custom" levelpack
« on: April 01, 2016, 06:51:56 PM »
Hello, friends!

For those of you who aren't familiar with this pack, Reverse Lemmings is a pack containing the 120 levels from the original Amiga Lemmings, but with the entrances and exits swapped and different skill assignments for the levels.

Development for this pack is slower than I thought. I made these levels originally for LemmixPlayer, and then just transferred them to Lemmini, and now SuperLemmini. Somewhere in the transferring process, some things got messed up. Here are the things I still need to do before I can release this pack.

First, I need to remove all of the unused space from the levels, simply for the sake of making them prettier. I also have to make sure the level starts focused on the new entrance rather than the original entrance. These are both aspects I did not expect I would have to do, because the levels were focused for LemmixPlayer, but SuperLemmini has a higher pixel density, making the screen start WAY OFF sometimes. SuperLemmini also allows for customizable level sizes, so I want to remove as much extra space as possible, since that's the way people like it. :)

Finally, when I made these levels, I was still a Lemmings novice. So now, playing through these old levels, I am finding tons of backroutes, thanks to my new knowledge, as well as the precision you can perform in SuperLemmini. (I designed the levels to be completed without being able to select a specific lemming out of a group or replaying levels) Needless to say, this has made for some levels being ludicrously easy, even in the Taxing and Mayhem ratings, which I will try to fix.

That said, most of the changes are minimal, but will just take some time, and with me trying to juggle this, SubLems, my Let's Play channel, and college, it may be a while before this pack comes out. Fun and Tricky are pretty much finished though. :D

In Development / SubLems: Large SuperLemmini levelpack
« on: March 23, 2016, 11:33:57 PM »
I was told to create a separate page for this, so here goes:

In fall 2014, I started dabbling in Lemmings level design, making levels originally for LemmixPlayer, then Lemmini, and now SuperLemmini. Fortunately, most of the levels I made in Lemmini transferred over to SuperLemmini without a hitch. (Mostly...)

Although it is not complete yet, I am proud to announce my levelpack: SubLems! (The name has nothing to do with my name, it's a play on sublime)

Thus far, SubLems has 7 difficulty levels: Newbie, Sweet, Scary, Chaotic, Insane, Hellish, and Retro. The middle 5 are the main difficulty ratings, having 20 levels apiece, with a gentle difficulty curve, while Newbie has 10 tutorial levels, and Retro contains 20 levels from Lemmings and Oh no! More Lemmings with different skill assignments. If I stick to this, SubLems will be ready to play fairly soon (although exactly when, I don't know). Now that that's done, I have some questions I would like some feedback on.

Question 1: am I allowed to put copyrighted music in the game? Right now, each level has a unique music track that plays on it, but lots of them are copyrighted in some way.

Question 2: Should I up the amount of levels in the 5 main difficulties to 25? Doing so would make a better learning curve, but it would mean SubLems would not be available for a longer time.

Question 3: What advice can you give a relatively amateur Lemmings level designer. Plenty of my levels are lacking in the scenery department, and most of my levels are quite small.

Question 4: Are any of my difficulty names used by other packs? If so, I have some backup names.

With that, I leave you with these screenshots of some of the levels I have completed! :D

Level 1 of Sweet: "Piece of Cake!" (Not all levels in Sweet look like actual sweets though)

"It's a hot one!" A level from Scary. (The exact level is still to be determined)

Did I mention this pack has BOSS FIGHTS!? Because it does. One for each of the five main difficulties.
