4/4/23: it is now ok to video LP this pack again, the ban has been lifted

v1.01 (5/12/20)
Fixed an oversight with the save requirement in "In A Slipstream", the save requirement is now set to 54/60
Pack cleansed

Here it is, the sequel to MegSEBytes.

Like MegSEBytes, this pack was made using the formula where one of us would create the terrain, then the other would add the objects, name the level, create the solution, skillset etc.
Whoever is named first in the author field: created the terrain layout.
Whoever is named second: adds in objects, created the solution, named the level, created the skillset.

It's been such an honour to work with Wafflem on another collaboration pack and this has been a lot of fun to create. We hope you enjoy this pack.
The pack contains 40 levels :)

Download the music pack here (141MB)

(Extract this to your "music" folder)

The level pack zip file is attached to this post at the bottom, extract this to your "levels" folder.

This pack contains 5 ranks: Slow-Mo, Speedy, Dashing, Lightspeed, Supersonic
Each rank contains 8 levels.

Slow-Mo

Jewel Quest (Flopsy/Wafflem)

Speedy

The Point of No Return (Wafflem/Flopsy)

Dashing

Don't Get Greedy Now (Wafflem/Flopsy)

Lightspeed

Let's Head Back To Camp (Wafflem/Flopsy)

Super Sonic

Take Us Home (Flopsy/Wafflem)

NeoLemmix Styles / Proposed overhaul of flopsy_starlight terrain tiles
« on: April 17, 2019, 12:29:07 AM »
Ok, as mentioned in another topic I am currently overhauling a lot of my tilesets at the moment.

Star Light is one of my weak link tilesets, I did kind of rush this one (late in SEB Lems development) and I am just now coming back to polish up the tiles in this tileset since I have improved as a tileset creator.

Here's an example

Notice all of the black gaps in the top left of this tile, it is not transparent at all and I feel this makes the tileset look sloppy.

This affects about 60% of the tiles in the terrain folder and this is probably the worst case example in the image shown, there are other tiles with gaps like this but there are less gaps.

I feel like I want to address this issue but as this tileset has been in the public domain for a few years now, I wanted to propose to the community whether this is a good move or not. I don't want to just go and do it without giving people warning first.
I think as I have not seen a great amount of Star Light levels released since the tileset's release that this would not be a great issue to many people.

If people do have levels which use this tileset, a simple fix would be to just fill in the gaps I will create by using tiles tucked behind the tiles with gaps.

I do intend to do this to flopsy_starlight soon and I just want to give a warning that I intend to do so.

One thing to note is that I will not be drastically changing the shape/outline of the tiles so for the most part this will only affect levels if the Lemmings are using destructive skills through these tiles.

NeoLemmix Styles / Mistake in flopsy_scrapbrain tileset
« on: April 17, 2019, 12:13:01 AM »
I'm currently doing a mass overhaul of all of my tilesets to improve the overall quality of them.

However in doing so, I noticed that the button for Scrap Brain has been mistakenly placed in gronkling_cyber along with the locked exit.

I have no problem with the locked exit being in gronkling_cyber since the exit animation is for the exit from that tileset which I had borrowed for Scrap Brain initially on creation (with permission from gronkling).
GigaLem came along and created an exit exclusively for Scrap Brain and I no longer required the exit from the cyber tileset.

However, the button is actually a tile I made for Scrap Brain and it is in the wrong tileset.
We could move the tile back to Scrap Brain but that would break pretty much every level which uses it and that would break an unknown number of levels. Or we could just allow a duplicate tile in Scrap Brain since the tile was originally intended for that tileset.

I would like to restore the tile to this tileset in this overhaul ideally and I cannot see the harm in having this one exceptional case of where there is one duplicate in 2 tilesets.

I intend on placing this button tile back into the Scrap Brain tileset while allowing this to exist in the cyber tileset, are there any objections to me doing so?

Live Event Scheduling / Sonic Race
« on: September 11, 2018, 08:48:46 AM »
I initially suggested this in Arty's Ocarina of Time topic but I don't want to hijack that topic anymore on this subject so I've started a separate topic on this.

This is more of a topic to see if there is any interest in doing this at some point in the future.

This is more or less the same thing where we voice chat to one another while doing the race and record our own attempts then I can make the attempts into a split screen video using my video editing software.

Anyone is welcome to join this provided they are able to record their race footage and even if you've never played the game before that's fine, to be honest blind attempts are more interesting to see than attempts from those who have played the game 50 times.

I also initially suggested racing Sonic 3 and Knuckles but I suppose any Sonic game is on the table potentially however I am only able to race a Sonic game which can be downloaded on Steam and I think that would be easier for everyone involved if we kept it limited to Steam downloadable Sonic games.

That means potential candidates are:
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Sonic Adventure (Story run - all characters except Big perhaps?)
Sonic Adventure 2 (Story run - Hero, Dark and Final story?)
Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles - all in one go
(open to other suggestions)

Other Rules

I suppose as it's a race, Emeralds are optional. In cases where Super Sonic can be achieved, it is down to the player to decide whether the Emeralds are worth the time due to the time Super Sonic could save later on in the run.

If multiple characters could be chosen, I suppose the obvious exclusion is Knuckles in S3&K unless we all choose to play this character.

Whether Tails alone is allowed is to be debated because I think Tails can be quicker than Sonic in some areas, however Sonic has shield abilities.

I would like this to be an authentic race where you actually play the game as intended and run through the levels so speed running techniques like level wrapping and terrain manipulation will not be allowed.
Similarly, in Sonic Adventure, death barrier manipulation techniques will not be allowed (most commonly used in the Final Rush stages).

If there are anything else which you think is important then mention it :)

Anyway, is there any interest? :)

I feel like the time has come for me to try and reignite some passion into recording Lemmings again on a more permanent basis so I feel hosting a custom level stream is a good way to help me accomplish this. I immensely enjoyed the last custom level stream and some great submissions were submitted last time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-agIOIKnhk

I'm planning on holding the stream on cancelled

And possibly important for some, I can host this one on YouTube, the reason for this is because I can stream content on my laptop directly to youtube, I just can't do console content on YT and have to use Mixer for that.

So level pack creators, are you working on a pack and want me to test a level for you live on stream? Send it at me, I'll take anything (new format of course) and give it my best :)
It'll be a good advertisement for your pack if anything!

So as before, please only send me new format NeoLemmix content, if there is a custom tileset used and it is not publicly available in the styles download, I'll be needing that as well.
I already have grabbed some levels from the Random Level Sharing Topic (see list below) so I already have some levels to play (however if you don't want me to play one of the levels listed and you're the author, please let me know!)

Please PM your submissions to me on the forums and try to use .zip format if required (and not .rar)
Also if you can't make the stream for some reason, I will NOT play your level unless you specify I can :)

Cherry picked from the Random Level Sharing Topic:
Bad Pick Up Skill (GigaLem)
Down Fall Lemming (Graeme)
Pipe Pits (Graeme)
Raymanni's Factory (Nessy)
Stairway to Death (grams88)

In Development / [NeoLemmix v12] Lemmings: Gotta Go Fast [187/188]
« on: June 27, 2018, 05:31:41 PM »
Update 4/8/21

This pack is getting close to release now, all the levels are done, I think there is one more level I want to add to the pack as an ultimate finisher to the Toolkit rank in the pack. Other than that, it's just tileset aesthetics and getting things up to scratch with the recent version of NeoLemmix.

So the pack now has 9 ranks, I have removed the Special Stage, Competition and SEBSegabytes rank and replaced them with one rank called Toolkit.

Each rank has now been increased to 21 levels because I have 21 tilesets which I want to use in the pack now after creating one more which I felt was missing. All will be revealed when the pack releases :)

Rose - Named after Amy Rose, nice and relaxed difficulty level like Team Rose was in Sonic Heroes, mostly X of everything levels but it's not overly generous (first difficulty rank, 21 levels)

Shield - Still shielded from tougher levels and have plentiful skillsets to hand. (second difficulty rank, 21 levels)

Ring - Onto the easier puzzle type levels and earn those rings! (third difficulty rank, 21 levels)

Sneaker - Getting more difficult, get those Super Sneakers on and carry on, Gotta Go FAST! (fourth difficulty rank, 21 levels)

Emerald - About as difficult as getting actual emeralds in the Sonic games (fifth difficulty rank, 21 levels)

Super Sonic - You have all the Emeralds now, time to morph into Super Sonic (sixth difficulty rank, 21 levels)

Chilli Dog - You have fought hard, you have beaten some tough levels to get here, can you finish the job and earn the Chilli Dog! (seventh and final difficulty rank, 21 levels)

Encore - A Flopsy/Wafflem collaboration ENCORE! With some levels from other special guests! (a collaboration rank, 20 levels)

NEW Toolkit - This rank is basically home to a unique level type which I feel some people dislike but for the sake of being fair, I am still including them for those who enjoy them but in a separate rank.
Toolkit basically means that, you have a larger skillset to deal with a more complex level. Some of these levels can be extremely difficult and have high entropy. (toolkit levels, 21 levels)

I have some early level images anyway of some of the entirely new levels.

While I have tried very hard to make sure replays are preserved, there are a handful of levels where all of the replays will be broken so be sure to check your replays for solvability after upgrading from the old format!
Apologies for any inconvenience regarding broken replays, in the majority of cases it means your solution was a back route though.

General Discussion / Buying my first Desktop PC
« on: May 04, 2018, 02:04:22 PM »
I've had a look into this recently and discovered that there is a lot of things now to factor in when buying a Desktop PC.

I'm looking to stop relying on laptops for power now and look into buying a more powerful machine.
My current laptop is: Intel Core i5-7200u (7th Gen), CPU 2.50GHz  2.71GHz  with 8GB RAM but that is not powerful enough for me and I feel I want to upgrade to an i7 at the very least or equivalent with at least 16GB RAM.

I would also like it to be a Desktop PC (or a Gaming PC) and I am willing to splash out on it if necessary but I want to make sure I make the right decision before I bite.

I'm not the biggest tech geek out there when it comes to computer specs and some things baffle me.
- I'm not sure what the difference between a SSD and a HDD means, some even have both!
- What would the advantages of having a Gaming PC over a standard Desktop PC be?

I'm reaching out to those who have bought powerful computers already and I would like to know what kind of spec I'd need to never have any issues with streaming, recording and just never having slow down. Obviously I would make sure it is up to date with antivirus and such.

Here's some examples of PCs I've come across and like the look of

HP Pavilion 27-r007na 27" All-in-One PC - Blizzard White
Windows 10
Intel® Core™ i7-7700T Processor
RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 2 TB HDD
Quad-core
2.9 GHz / 3.8 GHz (Turbo Boost)
8 MB cache
(A typical Desktop PC - Monitor and stuff included)

HP OMEN 880-112na Gaming PC
Windows 10
Intel® Core™ i7-8700 Processor
RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 2 TB HDD & 256 GB SSD
Hexa-core
3.2 GHz / 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost)
12 MB cache
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
(A typical Gaming PC - just the tower)

Both are around the same price (£1299-£1349)

So what do you lot think, are these specs good or should I keep searching?

Live Event Scheduling / Flopsy's Streams
« on: April 13, 2018, 09:58:30 PM »
The only requests I'm going to make are:-

1. I have to have not played the level before, most of the level packs I have played are LP'd on my Youtube channel but chances are you'd know if I LP'd your pack so I'd expect you to know if I played the level already.
Please don't submit levels from packs which you know I'm LPing and they are currently in progress.
However, there's one exception to this, if I have played the level before but back routed it on my initial attempt and you have since fixed this back route then you are perfectly free to send this level for me to play on stream.
You are even free to submit levels that have been submitted before also if I back routed them on stream the last time they were submitted.

2. I would also like to request that the levels are New Format only, if you have created a level in the old format and sent it to me by mistake, I may convert it myself but please make sure they are new format please.
If you have made a new tileset in the new format and this is not part of the styles download then make sure you send me this also.

Please PM your submissions to me with any custom music the level may have and any custom tilesets the level uses if I won't already have them.
Please compress everything into one zip file if there are a lot of files to send me.

There is no limit to how much content you submit to me, however if you send me a lot of levels, please highlight the levels you'd like me to attempt first in the batch because I won't play all of the levels in a single stream and to be fair to everyone else, my aim is to play at least one level from everyone who submitted a level to the stream.
If you submit a level, rest assured I will play it at some point ;)

Also, goes without saying but if you aren't at the stream yourself then I won't play your levels so don't worry if something goes wrong and you can't make the stream. I won't play the level without you present unless you consent me to do so ;)

In the unlikely event that I don't have enough levels to do a stream, I'll have some back up packs to play which I am very unlikely to LP on my YouTube channel.

Closed / [Bug][Investigation] Multiple Talismans in a single level
« on: April 12, 2018, 04:13:54 AM »
Quote
[03:38] <Flo_> Can you put Talismans on one level?
[03:38] <Flo_> two
[03:38] <Flo_> ^
[03:39] <Nessy> Not sure. Let me try that.
[03:40] <Nessy> Um I don't think so.
[03:46] <Nessy> Yeah you can't have two on one level.
[03:46] <Nessy> You can have one talisman with two different "restrictions" like 100% AND no blockers for example but not two separate talisman.
[03:49] <Flo_> namida had 2 talismans on the last level in LPV in the old format, that's a shame
[03:50] <Nessy> I have an idea: let me take a look at his conversion and see if he carried that over.
[03:57] <Nessy> Flo_ yes you can have more than one talisman, but they need to be the same ID
[03:57] <Flo_> ok interesting
[03:58] <Nessy> Still not 100% sure how it all works but that is what it looks like for now.
[04:02] <Nessy> Okay nevermind. It looks like they don't have to necessarily be the same ID -
[04:02] <Nessy> --_
[04:02] <Nessy> -_-
[04:03] <Nessy> Yeah you can have the same ID if one is Silver and the other is Gold, but for two different talimans on the same level you can have different IDs
[04:04] <Nessy> But they both don't show up though and the second one doesn't show up even if you get the first one.
[04:04] <Flo_> well I am trying to get a Silver and a Gold but it's not working
[04:04] <Flo_> oh well, I'll just leave it
[04:05] <Nessy> Do they have the same ID?
[04:05] <Flo_> I've tried same and different
[04:06] <Flo_> I either get an error or the Talisman displays both requirements in one of the Talismans
[04:06] <Flo_> the Talisman displayed is always the 2nd one mentioned
[04:07] <Nessy> I got it to work on my side. Do you want me to send you the file to compare?
[04:07] <Flo_> just paste in here what you wrote
[04:07] <Flo_> no point sending me the file
[04:09] <Nessy> $TALISMAN     TITLE One    ID 1    COLOR Gold    WALKER_LIMIT 0  $END
[04:09] <Nessy> $TALISMAN     TITLE Two    ID 2    COLOR Gold    BUILDER_LIMIT 0  $END
[04:12] <Nessy> But if they are different colors:
[04:12] <Nessy>  $TALISMAN     TITLE One    ID 1    COLOR Silver    WALKER_LIMIT 0  $END
[04:12] <Nessy>  $TALISMAN     TITLE Two    ID 1    COLOR Gold    BUILDER_LIMIT 0  $END
[04:13] <Flo_> it worked for me in both cases
[04:13] <Flo_> ID doesn't matter
[04:14] <Nessy> Okay thanks. I wasn't sure myself.
[04:14] <Nessy> Does the second one show up after solving the first?
[04:14] <Flo_> Not sure
[04:16] <Nessy> See I can get it to show the second one after the first one if I use the SAVE requirement. The skill limits are what get me.
[04:16] <Nessy> But SAVE doesn't work if the IDs are the same.
[04:20] <Nessy> Okay so yeah the IDs need to be different so that the second one shows up after the first one.
[04:23] <Flo_> Not working
[04:23] <Flo_> One is a Save requirement then the 2nd one is a skill limit
[04:27] <Nessy> Try something like this:
[04:28] <Nessy> $TALISMAN     TITLE One    ID 1    COLOR Silver    SAVE 1  $END
[04:28] <Nessy> $TALISMAN     TITLE Two    ID 2    COLOR Gold    WALKER_LIMIT 0  $END
[04:29] <Flo_> I need to delete the talisman completed data now
[04:29] <Flo_> because it's perma ticked
[04:29] <Flo_> or the level cleared data, what it is
[04:30] <Nessy> You might have to go to settings/userdata and then scroll to the bottom and delete the level info.
[04:33] <Flo_> Nope, didn't work
[04:33] <Nessy> The talisman?
[04:33] <Flo_> the 2nd one still doesn't display
[04:33] <Flo_> it shows up in the Talisman menu
[04:36] <Flo_> in fact even worse, it says both talismans unlocked when the 2nd once should not have!
[04:37] <Flo_> I'm just going to remove it
[04:38] <Nessy> Wow this is confusing to do manually.
[04:39] <Nessy> Tell me real quick what the two talismans are so I can reproduce exactly on my side.
[04:47] <Flo_> ID 1  COLOR Silver  SAVE 49
[04:47] <Flo_> ID 2 COLOR Gold  BUILDER_LIMIT 9
[04:52] <Nessy> Okay it seems that making them the same ID solves the problem of not solving two in one.
[04:53] <Nessy> It still doesn't show the second.

Sorry to copy and paste the IRC in this post but I think it explains the situation pretty well.

Me and Nessy were investigating Talisman behaviour in the New Format NeoLemmix (v12.1.0).

My goal was to have 2 talismans on one level where the first Talisman is a Silver Talisman and a Save 49/50, then I would have hoped NeoLemmix would display the 2nd talisman after completing the first as it cannot seem to capably display both at once on the level preview screen.

Take note of how the ID could be the same or different and it didn't really affect the results much.

We could not get the above to work in anything we tried but I could get the 2nd Talisman to show in the Talisman list (F4 menu).

Just thought we'd post our findings to see if anyone has anymore to input into this investigatory behaviour.

Closed / [Bug] Pack Toolkit will not save pack contents
« on: March 01, 2018, 01:45:09 PM »
V1.3 NeoLemmix Level Pack Tool

Perhaps not a bug, I might not be doing this correctly but I cannot find a way to do this correctly.

I have compiled a pack using the toolkit and I have come to saving it.
I have put 40 levels in the pack (5 ranks of 8 levels each) and I have put 5 custom rank images into the pack.

When saving it says "Please select the folder to save the pack in", it doesn't seem to matter what folder I select I get the error message
I usually select the folder or open it and then click Save when I get the option to instead of Open

"Could not save the pack: The given path's format is not supported"

It means I cannot make any packs using the tool at the moment and I don't know why this is. I might have to compile it manually.

Due to the overwhelming success of the session on 13th January, I thought I'd start arranging the next session.

Nessy and spacetag had their first sessions and really enjoyed them immensely and Arty showed off a few new levels as well as Raymanni :)
We had so many players that 8 colours just doesn't seem enough anymore!

I understand a few people are having exams at the moment and that is why I missed out this week and put it on the following weekend so if 27th January is not late enough to allow you to attend please speak up and we could move it back a week again :)

So usual time 6pm UTC on Saturday 27th January, what does everyone think?

Again, please respond if you think you "can definitely make it" or "possibly can make it" (or even "can't make it" if you usually play)

Definitely
Flopsy
Simon
Raymanni
Arty

Possibly
Nessy
SQron
Yung_Gotenks
Mobius
Rubix

Cannot

After a bit of discussion in the IRC and new users asking about when we are going to be playing next, I think it's time for another Lix session.

The date we've settled on is Saturday 13th January 2018 at 18:00 UTC (usual time). I am on UTC time myself and at the time of posting this message it is about 5.20am

Can you please reply in here if you can or possibly can make the session :)

On trying to open the editor, I'm presented with this error message.

I didn't even have the editor open previously and I am unable to open it. Selecting Yes or No just closes the error message and does not open the editor.

I have tried redownloading the editor also and it does not solve this issue.

EDIT: attached the error log for more information on the issue.

EDIT2: Solved, see post below.
