Yeah, another idea I just got.
For this one, you may use as many skills as you want, BUT you may only use one skill on each lemming.

I've already done Fun, and all of them except 4 and 26 are possible.

*I have added any level which showed up in my previous topic as being possible with either Climbers, Floaters, Bombers or Blockers to this list, as well as any from the Minimum Skills that can be done with 0 or 1 skills, as these ones are obviously possible under this challenge*

Original (86 of 120 levels)
Fun: All except 4 and 26 (total: 28)
Tricky: All except 6, 12, 19, 23 and 25 (total: 25)
Taxing: 2, 4-6, 9, 15-25, 27, 30 (total: 18)
Mayhem: 2, 4-5, 7-9, 11-12, 15-19, 24-26 (total: 15)

Oh No
Tame: All
Crazy: 2-3, 5, 8-9, 11-15, 19
Wild: 1, 3-4, 7, 9-11, 15, 17-20
Wicked: 1, 4, 6-7, 13-14, 16, 18-19
Havoc: 6, 10, 16

Holiday
Frost: 1-5, 7-9, 11, 13-15
Hail: 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10

Level Design / Cheapo Level Pack File Format!
« on: August 04, 2009, 04:56:08 AM »
It's quite simple, for anyone trying to extract a level.

The first four bytes are the size of the level file, including these four bytes themself but excluding everything past the last level file.
After this, each level file is stored one by one. The first four bytes of a level file is the size of the file, minus 32.
Immediately after the last level, is the name of the level pack, followed by 00.
The next two bytes are the number of levels in the pack.
Everything from there on is the adress within the file at which each level file is found.

Quite a simple one, so extracting levels is very easy. It's not encrypted in any way.

798
EDIT: Renamed it "Project" rather than "Remake" since it's turning out to be mostly original levels, with a few remakes of Lemmings Plus classics.

Number of levels completed so far, as well as how many are original, repeat, or unique. The difference between "original" and "unique" is that those classed as original have a repeat version of them later on, those classed as unique do not.

Mild: 30 of 30 completed (22 original, 0 repeat, 8 unique)
Wimpy: 30 of 30 completed (21 original, 4 repeat, 5 unique)
Medi: 30 of 30 completed (9 original, 12 repeat, 9 unique)
Danger: 30 of 30 completed (2 original, 19 repeat, 9 unique)
PSYCHO: 30 of 30 completed (0 original, 23 repeat, 7 unique)
Total: 150 of 150 levels completed (54 original, 58 repeat, 38 unique)

Attached file is the official 10 level demo, containing 2 levels from each difficulty rating.
Mild: "Heading On In" and "Up, Down, Round & Round!"
Wimpy: "Life, The Universe & Everything" and "One Step At A Time"
Medi: "The Long Road To Lemming High" and "Die The Death Of The Damned"
Danger: "The Buildo Station" and "Bullet Lemming"
PSYCHO: "Coalburner" and "No Salvation"

Modifications: "Up, Down, Round & Round" has been moved to Wimpy. "Die The Death Of The Damned" has been moved to Danger. "Bullet Lemming" has been moved to PSYCHO and has one fewer builder.

Now attached: A second 10 level demo. It also contains 2 levels from each difficulty.
Mild: "Farewell, My Lemming" and "Across The Ditch"
Wimpy: "Backdraft" and "Get up, up, up!"
Medi: "This Is..." and "Eye of the Lemming"
Danger: "In the life of a Lemming" and "So That's The Plan..."
PSYCHO: "Lightspeed Lemming" and "No Time To Die"

Modifications: "Backdraft" moved to Danger and no longer has a builder, plus numerous backroute fixes (since terrain changes are involved, a modified LVL file is attached). "Eye of the Lemming" now has 10 lemmings instead of 2 (still requires 100%).

Third (and absolute final!) demo now available. Again, two levels from each difficulty.
Mild: "The Graveyard" and "You Just Lost The Game!!!"
Wimpy: "Just For Fun" and "Only One Place To Go!"
Medi: "Bob's Mistake" and "Take A Dive"
Danger: "Circular Wavelength" and "The Hideout"
PSYCHO: "Not gonna work." and "A Perfect Nightmare"

Modifications: None yet.

You can also download all 3 demos in a single Lemmix player. Link: http://rapidshare.com/files/307219411/LPDOSDemo.zip
This player also has the orders changed to reflect reorderings for the final release, and has the updated versions of Bullet Lemming, Eye of the Lemming and Backdraft. It also contains all of ccexplore's updates.

Quote from: Hints for demo levels
These hints are updated to reflect any fixes or changes made after the releases of the demos.

First Demo
Heading On In - This level is quite straightforward and should not require a hint.
Up, Down, Round & Round! - Take care not to create any fatal drops, and you'll be fine.
Life, The Unverse & Everything - This level is quite straightforward and should not require a hint.
One Step At A Time - As the title suggests, just deal with each obstacle individually as you come to it.
The Long Road To Lemming High - You may need to go outside the playing area in order to create a path (although it is possible without doing so).
Die The Death Of The Damned - You have no spare skills, so you'll have to find a method of crowd control that doesn't use skills. Think of what else you have that can control lemmings to some degree.
The Buildo Station - Set the Release Rate to about 80, and you should have no problem.
Bullet Lemming - At one point, you need to turn the worker around, but you can't do this without running out of builders. Is there a way that you can turn a lemming around with a builder you need to use anyway?
Coalburner - Don't assume terrain is purely for decoration just because it looks like it is.
No Salvation - Place your skills very carefully in order to create a path up the staircase. The other parts of the levels are purely distractions.

Second Demo
Farewell, My Lemming - Block off the left side, and it's easy from there.
Across The Ditch - This level shouldn't need a hint.
Backdraft - The easy part is working out how to turn a climber around, the hard part being how to get the crowd out of this turn-around.
Get up, up, up! - The tight space of this level shouldn't matter much.
This Is... - Most parts of the level are unused.
Eye of the Lemming - Instead of trying to stop the crowd from getting stuck, try to release them from where they get stuck.
In the life of a Lemming - The flag-like structures are most certianly not just for decoration.
So That's The Plan... - Blockbomb your way past the flamethrower, and it's smooth sailing from there.
Lightspeed Lemming - If a basher has two other bashers in front of him, he'll start walking again and overtake both.
No Time To Die - Use different lemmings to make different parts of the path at the same time.

Third Demo
The Graveyard - This level is quite straightforward and should not require a hint.
You Just Lost The Game - There's quite a few ways to approach this one, just choose a path and solve it, they're all pretty simple.
Just For Fun - This level is quite straightforward and should not require a hint.
Only One Place To Go - For the most part, you should try to solve the level backwards.
Bob's Mistake - You must go the wrong way first.
Take A Dive - There is a way to get lower, think carefully about what it may be.
Circular Wavelength - Send two lemmings over the top, and have one more mine down. Once you do this, the rest isn't too hard.
The Hideout - Your worker should come from the right side, but the first thing he should do is save the left.
Not gonna work. - The 20th floater is used on a lemming before it falls off the starting area, but it's not the 20th lemming.
A Perfect Nightmare - You need to do something a bit unordinary to contain the lemmings, as any ordinary trick will fail.

I've also now uploaded a spreadsheet that contains a full level list (with gaps on levels not yet made, of course), as well as:
- Which style each level uses
- Whether the level is original, repeat or unique
- If applicable, where the repeats/earlier versions are
- Maximum possible %
- Minimum skills to complete
- Minimum skills to acheive maximum %
- Whether or not the level is possible in the following challenges: Single skill type, 1 minute, Release Rate 99, one skill per lemming, one lemming performing skills only

Due to 4-attachment-per-post limit, the third demo is attached to a message just below.

Forum Games / The serious 5 word story.
« on: July 25, 2009, 11:44:52 AM »
The rules are the same as 5 word story, but with one twist:
Instead of trying to be random, you have to try to make sense and keep it serious. As in basically, trying to write a completely normal story, except for the "five words per person". I'll start:

Melissa woke up from her...

Lemmings Main / FINALLY.
« on: July 24, 2009, 12:51:24 PM »
I finally managed to acheive 100% on Cascade! Go me!

801
RULES
1) You must use only one type of skill.
2) You must not use more of that skill than the level actually gives you.
3) You must save at least the required %, in the set time limit.
4) Glitches present in DOS Lemmings are allowed. Glitches unique to Lemmix, if any, are not. However, glitch solutions must be stated as such.
5) A level that has already been solved with one skill may be attempted with another.
6) Please state if 100% is acheivable.
7) Only the DOS version, or versions 100% true to DOS's mechanics (as far as I'm aware, that means only Lemmix) are allowed.

LIST SO FAR

Please note that "no solutions found" may, in some cases, simply mean that such a solution has not yet been discovered but does exist. Likewise, even if a level states that a glitch is used, there may also be another solution that doesn't use one. The *GLITCH* tag applies to the skill next to it only. For example, if a level says "Floaters, Builders (glitch)", this would mean it can be solved with floaters without using a glitch, or with builders using a glitch. The same applies to the 100% tag.

Random Trivia
- The level which inspired me to create this topic upon discovering the solution to was Tame 7, with builders.
- Two levels can be beaten with no skills at all, those being Wild 9 and Hail 6. The former requires a glitch to do this, the latter does not.
- There is no level on which all 8 skills, or even 7 of the skills, have potential solutions. However, there are two so far which 6 different skills offer potential solutions (in both cases, Floaters are one of the skills that do not, one of the cases has Climbers as the other skill and one has Blockers). There are plenty of levels for which 5 skills offer solutions, in the majority of these it's Climbers, Floaters and Blockers that don't.

Another favourite of mine, which I'm surprised hasn't been started here yet.
The title pretty much says it all. The answers obviously shouldn't be serious, and don't have to be truthful in any way.
Once you answer the question, ask the next one.

Q: Why do lemmings have green hair?

Lemmings Main / Lemmings Trivia Topic, Part II
« on: July 20, 2009, 01:07:16 PM »
Yeah, obviously if Jason's "out of here", no one's going to be updating the score board on his new topic.
So, time to do this fairly, while sticking to the previous topic as much as possible.

Rules:
- You gain 2 points for a correct answer that is not "extra credit".
- You gain 4 points for a correct answer that is "extra credit".
- You lose 1 point for a wrong answer, extra credit or not.
- You may attempt an "extra credit" question at any time, whether or not you're also attempting the current question.
- You do NOT lose points for the way you post, just to make this clear. However, please try to make it visible which part is question and which is commentary.
- When you answer a question, post the new one straight away.
- If your answer is later found to be wrong, and no one has answered your question correctly, the question must be removed and considered void. You may, of course, re-use it later.
- If your answer is later found to be wrong, and someone has answered yours correctly, the question you incorrectly becomes extra credit.
- Any objections to an answer must be raised within 24 hours of it being posted. It does not nessecerially have to be from the person who posted the question.
- If a question is not answered correctly within 24 hours, it becomes extra credit.
- Any rule that in general is found to be unfair (by multiple people, not just by one) may be changed, depending on the reasons and how many people feel that way. I'm not in favour of a dictatorship here. The only exception is this next rule:
- Any rule changes are NOT retrospective. They only apply from that point forwards. This is to ensure you can't suddenly get in trouble for a rule that didn't exist at the time you broke it. This rule cannot be changed or removed, and it overrides all other rules.

Extra Credit:

Since Jason attempted to start a new quiz, but unfortunately did so with no structure, I'll repost his question here:

Just so you know... although I can't really say I've done any more work on it... I still plan to finish it and no data has been lost AFAIK (I'm not sure where the backup CD from my last reformat is, but I know I've got one with LP4 on it)

Assuming the post on the old site was up to date:
Difficulty 1: 13 of 30 levels completed (11 100% optional, 2 100% required, 0 100% impossible)
Difficulty 2: 13 of 30 levels completed (10 100% optional, 1 100% required, 2 100% impossible)
Difficulty 3: 19 of 30 levels completed (8 100% optional, 7 100% required, 4 100% impossible)
Difficulty 4: 16 of 30 levels completed (2 100% optional, 7 100% required, 7 100% impossible)
Total: 61 of 120 levels completed (31 100% optional, 17 100% required, 13 100% impossible)

In almost every country in the world, a chemical known as "dihydrogen monoxide" is legal. The dangers of dihydrogen monoxide include:

    * Also called "hydroxyl acid," the substance is a major component of acid rain;
    * Contributes to soil erosion;
    * Contributes to the greenhouse effect;
    * Accelerates corrosion and breakdown of electrical equipment;
    * Excessive ingestion may cause various unpleasant effects;
    * Prolonged contact with its solid form results in severe tissue damage;
    * Inhalation, even in small quantities, may cause death;
    * Its gaseous form may cause severe burns;
    * It has been found in the tumors of terminal cancer patients;
    * Withdrawal by those addicted to the substance causes certain death within 168 hours;

Nevertheless, governments and corporations continue using it widely, heedless of its grave dangers.

PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO GET THIS SUBSTANCE BANNED!

Lemmings Main / Cheapo Super-Pack Level List
« on: March 17, 2006, 05:10:07 AM »
I thought it'd be a good idea to keep the small and large packs seperate.
So, we'll use this topic for the big packs (like IS Notebook and the Lemmings Plus series).

I'll repost my review of IS Notebook Set #2 level 1:

I.S. Notebook Set 2 - Level 1 - "And They're Off!"
Lemmings: 30
Save: 30
Time: 1:21
RR: 99
Skills: 1 of each
Good: Quite simple, without being blatantly obvious.
Bad: Dunno really.

Level Design / Graphics

A lot of you are probably like me - want to be able to do good graphics, but don't have(and don't want to get) a proper graphics program.

Well, here's your solution:

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

It's a free, very powerful, fairly small file-size graphics editing program, capable of very good results. Have fun. ^_^

Lemmings Main / Lemmings 3D File Format
« on: March 10, 2006, 11:42:39 PM »
The subject came up in an AIM conversation between me and Shvegait, and I then went to Lemming Crazy to relook at my data... and found the link to be broken! (the images work, but the txt file doesn't!)

So I'm going to repost it here, as well as save it on my hard drive.

Code: [Select]
This is the currently known information about L3D Levels:

The level is stored in the "LEVEL.???" file - the "BLK.???" files contain the tileset - I don't know exactly how BLK.??? files work.

In the FIRST level of Lemmings 3D Winterland, "3FA0" is a solid block.

The level name is stored near the start of the file.

How the time limit is stored is unknown. The number of lemmings, lemmings to save and release rate are stored near the level name.

The tools are about 12 bytes into the file.

The camera positions are a bit after the author's name - which, by the way, doesn't seem to effect the game.

Blocks found in first level of Lemmings 3D Winterland:
(Key: North is straight ahead from Camera 1, East is to the right, West is to the left, South is backwards)

3F A0 - Full Block
3F A4 - Full Block
3F 6C - Different Full Block
3F xx - Various Full Blocks (?)
2F A0 - Buggy Full Block(the camera can go through it - don't know if lemmings can)
7F 6D - Diagonal Block(North low, South high)
xF 6D - Various Diagonal Blocks
3F 6D - Stalagtite Block
3F 6F - Corner Block(between North low/South high diagonal block and West low/East high diagonal block)
xF 6F - Various Corner Blocks(they go as low as 0F 6F!)
FF A1 - Turning Block(turn to North or West)
xF A1 - Various Turning Blocks
1F 04 - Exit
xF 04 - Various Direction of Exits
xF 05 - Stalagtite-Shape Exits
53 94 - Snow Pile(like on top of exit)
5F A2 - Bottom of level tile (?)
1F 68 - Water Hole

In the terrain, first a row of blocks are stored. They go from east to west. Then comes the next row - each row is in order from the top one to the bottom. These rows make up one square(or it might be a rectangle). Then, all of the squares put together(from North to South) make up the entire level.

UPDATE: It seems the rows are stored from bottom to top.

It seems that the two bytes are actually to define different things about the block - both have the shape of it, and the second also seems to have the type of block.

UPDATE: The last byte definately has an effect on the shape - try using 05 or 06 instead of 04 for the exit(the exits won't work, but try them!)

Seems to be that each row has 31 blocks.

General Discussion / Guess who the next poster will be

Here's a fun one. Make a guess about who the next poster will be. It's pointless but fun.

I'm guessing Ice Eagle for some reason.
