In Development / Re: NeoLemmix Community Pack
« on: November 21, 2016, 05:09:11 PM »
With the last update I noticed "Welcome to the Spiderdance broke". Altered the level and reattached it. Replay is still fine!

Also I would like to offer my assitance in taking care of the Dropbox folder. So not everything has to flow through namida's hands and would ease a little bit of work, as there is another (or maybe even some) person(s) who can take care of this. :)

Have found the issue!

I've opened my pack with the stable version and the new exp alternately. So opening a pack with the stable version after the warning has been given in the exp version resets the warning and it will be given again with the next exp opening!

Everything crash or critical wise is fine, as far as I tested it until now.     Xmas stuff is working again! Expect the skillbar needs to be updated to the new format.

The thing that is bothering me a bit:
It is warning me everytime I open a pack (even if it was build with the latest Flexi Toolkit version) that this pack might not be campatible, even though it totally is. :P

Unfortunatelly...and after making (or at least trying) what you've been telling to me, it seems that it still won't work...somehow I got a feeling that I'm forgetting something, but I don't know what.

As I said your file (even it beeing too large) is alright. I get my test levels to play it. I still assume there is some elementary wrong in your process here. Either using a wrong program or doing sth elementary wrong in the level creation process.

I highly recommend: Make your level from scratch using the latest release of the NeoLemmix editor. After that upload it here so we can check if it's alright. At last add the music track.

I/We need to see your exact progress here, as this is the first time I saw a level not loading because it wanted "levelpack1.dat", "levelpack2.dat".... (did you maybe try to remane tilesets?)

This might be a great help for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53dMYMF2LgM
As namida is live creating a level in the editor here!

Afterthought: We assume that your .it file is actually an uncompressed wavefile! That would explain the size of it!  Try to convert the original (I assume) wavefile properly to an OGG file using a music editor like Audacity.

One thing you might want to check: In the editor the music file has to be entered without the file extension, i.e. "myMusic" instead of "myMusic.it".

Thanks, but it still won't work that way. I've put the file for you attached. Gotta go now, I'll be back later.

Somehow I'm also not being able to put the file in this forum, so I've put it on sendspace for you, here it is --> https://www.sendspace.com/file/9t4q1a

A 45 MB ".it" file :lem-mindblown:

Normally these are hardly 100 KB

Even as a MP3/OGG this file size is huge for a ~ 5 min song! I think somehow your conversion is wrong, even if I can play the song. Also try remane it ahrix01, the "_" could cause problems.

My recommendation would still be: Get the levels + pack to work and then try to put in the right music as I still sense that the main problem is located there.

EDIT:

After downloading your file and creating a test level in the cavelem style (attached): I got your music to work! (without the _ in the name)

To load the level in the NeoLemmix Player put the track in the music folder (leaving out the "_" in the file name). Test playing in the editor with a testplayer: Make a music folder for the test player and put the file in there. Be sure that you have the tileset!
Try to load my level in the editor to see how I put in the music track in the level properties window!

Also there is no way the file needs to be 45MB  try to turn the size down :P

A little help for Arty evaluating the "Nightmare!" levels.

There were quite a few ones that were always backrouted, which I would love some additional input on as the intended route needs to be "fun checked" ("not fun because too hard" I will ignore as this is not a argument for me :8():)

Also I tried remembering the ones which got additional praise.

I have a file that it's not working (some .it file) when I play my level instead of playing my .it file, it plays "Can-Can" and I don't want that, I want it to play the new song (I already put the song in Flexi ToolKit, already tried to write the name of the file in NeoLemmix Editor, but nothing). Then I thought maybe I had to modify some "music.txt" file, but then I looked inside it "how am I supposed to modify such a thing if no one tells me to modify it?" so that's why I am so confused, lol.

can we have the .it file?

It needs to be in the toolkit + the level must have set it as it's track. Also the filename CAN be too long. I would recommend getting the pack to work first -- then care about the music.

Help & Guides / Re: The graphic set .dat could not be found
« on: November 19, 2016, 02:23:07 PM »
I think the problem might lay in the level creation itself and maybe misunderstanding about single levels, packs and tilesets.

I try to explain it from scratch to avoid talking around each others.

A level is created by the NeoLemmix editor in a .lvl file. In the level tilesets are used that are stored in the NeoLemmixEditor styles folder in .dat files.

The NeoLemmix Player can load these .lvl files directly, but it needs these .dat tilesets in it's styles folder as well.

If you have a lot of levels you can put them together in a pack using the FlexiToolkit. You have to give it all the .lvl levels, .dat tilesets and music you used (+ optional music and logos). Then you can save your entire configuration ("Save as") in a SYSTEM.dat file (do not rename it!). You can also load this configuration again then after closing the program. At last it can build an nxp file which you can name properly (+ optinal music pack) which the NeoLemmix player can load.

All in all:

The player loads packs (.nxp) and levels (.lvl). It needs the tilesets (.dat) in a styles folder (+ optional music in the musics folder). It can save replays of levels (.nxrpl).

The editor creates levels (.lvl) using tilesets (.dat) in the styles folder (+ optional music). It can also testplay levels directly by placing a NeoLemmix player in it's folder.

The FelxiToolkit creates and loads pack configurations (SYSTEM.dat) using levels (.lvl) + tilesets (.dat) + (optional music and logos in .png). It can then build these configurations into packs (.nxp) and optional music packs which the player can load in.

Maybe join our IRC live chat #neolemmix for quicker investigation. Or give me all your loadable .lvl files and I try building a pack from scratch and I see if the levels are created wrong or if sth you did in the toolkit is fishy.

EDIT: Ok wrote this before you wrote your last message, but I think it is still worthwhile posting :P

Just one thing I noticed. NeoLemmix Editor also comes with an option to download some graphics which I used for my 1st level (Space (Lemmings 2) and Crystal (Lemmings 1) based), so basically it is a mix of both, the song is the instrumental from the pop song "Sarsa - Naucz Mnie". Does this count as copying from NeoLemmix? And if it does can you please give me some link to a software where I can create my own graphics or something like that? I already tried to search something here, but nothing. And if that's not that easy to find (or to do), at least maybe some cool graphics available I could download from outside.

Regarding of the song:
I don't know that song, but be a bit careful with using copyrighted music. This can get problematic. I recommend copyright-free stuff or old video game music.
Also if maybe some users here want to do a video of them playing your levels with uploading it on YouTube or similar this can get problematic.

Furthermore if you have only a few (~ 5 let's say) levels you may also thinking about releasing them as single levels only. For a bunch it is better though to pack them together in a pack.

No that's not what I meant:

NeoLemmix has the standard original tilesets included in the executable itself, but the custom created tilesets are not naturally included so they needed to be added in this tab or manually downloaded in the NeoLemmix tileset folder.
As most users who play your pack would not want to manually download every custom tileset for their NeoLemmix version you used for themselves, you put them directly into the pack.

First of all: Welcome to the forum! :)

So I assume you want to build your own pack if you want to use the Flexi Toolkit.

For the music: You actually just need to convert mp3 to OGG, as NeoLemmix also supports OGG's. Today a huge percentage of the custom tracks are in OGG format.

I assume that creating ranks, putting levels into them with the custom music included and maybe adding post/preview texts was self-explaining. (Levels Tab)
Also the general settings (Settings Tab) should not be the big problem I think.

So only to make sure:
- To manually add tilesets which are not the basic ones directly included in NeoLemmix (Graphic Sets tab)
- Put in all your music you wanna use + Maybe outsource some OGG tracks into a music pack if the nxp pack's file size is growing too big. (Musics tab)
- If you want import some custom graphics like logos or fitting rank signs in png format (Other Data tab) (Optional as a pack can simply use the default ones)

When everything is ready: Save it as a SYSTEM.dat file and then build the nxp.

And yes the guide to properly using the tool needs to be updated on the NeoLemmix website!

Closed / [BUG][FLEXI-TOOLKIT] Option "Always Xmas" not working
« on: November 17, 2016, 09:24:00 PM »
So I promised a friend a little christmas pack with some of my "best of" snow levels for the end of November. I also put in some "special" levels in other tilesets and I thought turning on the "Always Xmas" option in the Flexi-Toolkit would change my Lemming sprites + skillbar for all levels into the Xmas ones ------ no. Everything stays normal and no Christmas Lems or skillbar at all.

Would love a quick fix here as I kinda want to hold my promise of a little Christmas "best of" pack before December :).  Sry, I did not count in this problem at all.

Changing the main tileset to Christmas gets me at least the Xmas Lem sprites as a workaround, but that would also change bridge+map colors and stuff which is not always fitting + manually editing every single level again is not fun :(.

After my internet is up again, I finally begin to upload my playthrough (With commentary!!) of Command&Conquer Tiberian Dawn. :)

Got everything recorded already (70 Parts in total) where I will be covering the 2 main campaigns, the secret Dinosaur mini-campaign, all of the add-on mission CD missions and the exclusive N64 + PSX missions. Great thing that cncnet.org included those as well ;)

Link to the first video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVl9Twp8VWs&t=456s

I also started recording Command&Conquer Red Alert while my internet was down, so I already got a project when this is finished ;)

Have fun with my let's play of my most favorite game-series alongside Lemmings! :)
