NeoLemmix Levels / Re: [NeoLemmix] Lemmings Reunion
« on: December 01, 2016, 10:44:15 AM »
Update 2.3 is out!

Replaces the music pack with the single music files, which have to be put into the NL music folder! So update recommended!

Also removes the debug mode.

Version 1.9 is out!

Disables debug mode and replaces the archive with only the nxp for download, as I don't think an extra ReadMe is still nessesary.

When editing levels in the levels tab: It would be a lot quicker if you don't have to double click on every level in order to edit or just even see the level details in a pop up window.

Why not make the Toolkit window a bit bigger and put that information to the side to see + edit everything on the fly and not relying on an additional pop-up window?

Alright then I missed that! :-[

Mass deleting + the Graphic Set tool mass adding/deleting would still be helpful though.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Möbius already showed you the complete level pack list that should link to all the relevant topics.

So if you want to edit your own levels on top of that: Both Lix and NeoLemmix have editors for that.

NeoLemmix editor (+ everything else :P) download: http://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=2979.0

Lix has it's editor already in the program.

All NeoLemmix custom tilesets are located in this board: http://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?board=25.0

Have fun playing (+ maybe creating) a ton of levels!    If you want some recommendations for beginner friendly/very difficult packs or just general help --- just ask! ;)

« on: November 29, 2016, 07:35:39 AM »
With the soon to be happen switch from music packs to the music folder --- I have to re-add all my Reunion + PimoLems level again as back in the day I only added the music tracks in the Toolkit.
As I need to rename all my tracks for this, because furthermore track1 - trackX will most likely become problematic with duplicates I assume, I need to re-add all levels after I gave them their specific tracks in the editor finally.

Adding 150 + 145 levels is no fun in the Flexi-Toolkit currently!

It would be a blessing if I am clicking on "ADD" I would be able to choose multiple levels! In my folder all 150 + 145 levels are in the correct order - so beeing able to select 30 or 20 at a time to add a whole rank at once would greatly speed up the process!
If I hadn't somehow missed the addition of this feature in the past of course ;P

Hint: This could also be a great idea for the Graphic Set Tool. Mass add your tiles with "Alphs Channel" as standard and choose the transparent parts later.

If we are moving away from the music packs soon and simply relying on the music folder, then it would be a blessing if the player+editor support longer and more complex music file names.
This would further reduce the problem of having 2 or more music files with the same name, as the naming in general is less restricted. Also the names can be more fitting and specific, which is a good thing with naming music tracks.

For example : Let's take a contest entry from me    "Welcome to the Spider Dance !"

I had to rename the music track from "Toby Fox - Spider Dance.ogg" to simply "spiderdance.ogg" to get it to work.

So it would be a big improvement for the future if player + editor can correctly dedect long music file names that also have special letters like - _ / ( )

If other people can still enter-----then let's simply extend the playing phase starting from Dec 1 for example.

An nxp pack with all the levels (+ working custom music ;)) would be nice to have again. :)

Why should it be wrong to edit with custom tilesets? I never said or indicated it in my post :lem-shocked:

With the underlined statement I just wanted to stress the following:

If you have downloaded all the tilesets, that's good. Then you should be able to play all levels created with them + create new levels with them.

A freshly downloaded NeoLemmix player only should have the original tilesets + the Lemmings Plus series ones. That means other players that may want to play your pack could not be able to play it, because they are missing some of the custom tilesets you used.

---> That's why you need to add them (the .dat files) into your Pack in this tab (Graphics sets tab). This ensures that every NeoLemmix player can/should be able play your pack, regardless which tilesets the others have downloaded.

I can confirm this as well. The first stoner is solid and after that even with pressing "R" for a replay all other stoners will not be solid.

Going out of the level resets this.

EDIT: Checked the older exp version again ----> the bug is also present there!

Out of my mind: Nepster said sth about increasing the performance through decreasing the terrain/map updates some time ago. Maybe he decreased it too much? That would be my guess. Rather a few checks too much than too less. I am ok with waiting another part of a sec.

I would also be for namida's way here.

Take all the time needed to get everything right. When the format changes we cannot risk splitting up content + relying on not 100% finished code. Let's rather stay longer at the old working format until the new one is 100% ready to go with everything that comes with it.

Great!

Will give it another go when I have the time ;P    + maybe make another video series ar some point.

But first, I have stuff to create at the moment.

However
Side effects include: Lower Forum activity

Another side effect similar to that would be the activity on Quakenet would go down; may even become unusable if we all relied on Discord to chat.

I would not be very afraid of this. I think most of the stuff will still be in IRC or the forum.

You could even say IRC is bringing down the forum activity with the same argument ;P

For quick chats which are not worthy of creating posts or topics these alternative methods are way more handy. It could also increase the overall interactions and "bounding" between forum members.

As a matter of fact, I do think walkers should be able to turn gliders and floaters.

Ok, here I need to step in.     I am ok with the decision to keep the exiting behavior even if I prefer the other way.

But this would crush everything!   Gliders with walkers would be the most overpowered skill of them all. As soon as a level needs both skills the backroute world is open to the glider. Even now the glider is very powerful and can easily backroute things. But being able to activly control the glider midair would make it beeing able to reach nearly every place.
