Help & Guides / Re: Lemmings 2 - Tension sheet - Game Boy Version
« on: May 21, 2017, 03:04:12 PM »
Your long time mystery has been solved! 8-)

My guide for the level:

1.) Send a climber+floater over the wall.
2.) Build over the first water gap.
3.) Shortly before reaching the 2nd gap send another climber+floater over the wall.
4.) Build over the 2nd gap with the first lem using 2 builders.
5.) Make the builder a blocker on the bridge when he is finished.
6.) The 2nd lem should turn at the blocker (Make a save state! My emulator was able to at least ;P).
7.) Mine down in such a way that he beaches to the lower tunnel and is also as low as he can gets (one miner swing more and he falls out of the map) ---> he still turns at the steel. So ~ only the upper part of the miner tunnel breaches to the tunnel. This is nearly pixel-precise! Normally mining on steel doesn't turn here.
8.) Make another save state! Pause exactly before the blocker and free the blocker with a miner performed by the other lem. To ease the selection: Come with your cursor slowly from the left and stop if the cross turns into a square ---> only the walker is in the selection. The 2 athletes are now safe!
9.) Make another save state! Select a right facing lem from the crowd near the left pillar and dig. Dig a bit and then turn the digger into a right facing miner ---> this ensures they all walk to the right into the prepared miner tunnel. Pausing at a moment where the other lems in the digger pit are all on one side helps selecting the digger using the same cursor technique as before.
10.) 8/8 saved! 8-)

+ I even have a basher to spare     Make sure to use the save states or you will be in replaying hell!

The code for the 5th level was in my case (I don't know if it's always the same. This was the first time I played Lemmings on a freaking gameboy :XD:): AAFBFHBG

Hope I could help you! But I still would suggest the DOS version for Lemmings 2 as not having the mouse is painful --- although with the ability to pause + select a skill at the same time I was able to easily perform a basher staircase ;)

If you want to --- try out some custom Lemmings packs here! NeoLemmix and Lix provide you with enough stuff for eternity and precise controls to make excecuting solutions easy --> your only problem is actually finding the solution!

EDIT: A neat thing I found in this version: You can cancel a miner with a basher when he is about to move forward. Also if you need a visual presentation of the solution: I could try and record a video.

Command&Conquer Red Alert was just completed and it's time to proceed to the sequel: Command&Conquer Red Alert 2 and it's expansion pack Yuri's Revenge!

Be prepared for soviet giant squids and terror drones, allied dolphins and weather control stations (yes the technology gets kinda crazy here :P)!

In Development / Re: [NeoLemmix] Casualemmings (in development)
« on: May 19, 2017, 09:06:52 PM »
Yes that were the good old Reunion (on Lemmini! :scared:) V 1.0 days. With harsh unnessesary timers on every level, precise bomber timing, hidden traps and no framestepping or true physics mode to compensate! :P
Glad over the time all these things are either patched out or fixed and mostly only some backroutes remain.

I even now have some mixed feelings about the pack as I like my current stuff for United 1000 times more and I am just seeing that everything is better now. I need to pick up level creating spped again, but university and a creative block are currently in the way. :(

Yes the feedback from us can be a bit overly direct with a bit of rage attached at times and I tend to point out more of the negative stuff as these are the things I think can be made better. The good things are already good as they are and usually don't need changes. I want even an excellent a pack to get better and better and that's why the focus lies on the non-perfect things that still can be improved.

Levels for v10 or older / Re: [NeoLemmix] LemmingBytes
« on: May 17, 2017, 02:12:56 PM »
Hi

I've tried to download this pack but the Dropbox is empty.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Can confirm that.

Until WaffLem fixes the link --- I've attached the nxp pack of the 1.1 version to my post. So you still can play it. ;)

What's the music in The longest minute? It's been playing in my head for the past couple of days.

Seems like I've made a good find back then

The Green Orbs - At The Fair

I included it in the soundrack for Lemmings Reunion back in the days and it got to be one of the most recognisable tracks from it. May the "la la la" choros drive you slowly into insanity!

Resolved namida's level.

Live Event Scheduling / Re: Arty's streams
« on: May 14, 2017, 04:03:44 PM »
It's been a while, definitely time for another stream! I'll be speedrunning Mega Man: Rock Force again at 7pm EST. Even if you saw my first speedrun, I would encourage you to join in this stream; it will be a vastly different speedrun than before.
Sry that I have not made it to the stream, but I was waaay too tired that day :P     It's still 1 am for me.

More Nepster solutions. Hopefully this time.....

2664
More replays! Got a good feeling this time with namida's level ;)

For Arty:
I have the strong feeling that all the pickup-skills and fire objects now really mess-up the scenary. I would advise turning down the pick-ups and fire objects again and carve out another solution that is not as easily backroutable and does not need all these enforcements.

In my opinion one big goal of such a level is avoiding to edit the origial picture at all, aside from adding in a hatch and an exit. This emphasizes the scenary more.

Terrain picture + hatch + exit. Only using these 3 components fits the theme best. (At least for me) And your level looks amazing when all these little fire and pick-up objects are absent ;)

So I would advise carving out a difficult open-end solution or one that is not easily exploitable (maybe swap out some skills even).

Also: I need more solution replays for my own R3 level. Currently I've got my own solution, bulletride's and Nepster's one (and I have an idea for another one), but I want more! ;P

2665
Hopefully a step in the right direction :P

2666
More backroutes (I think).

2667
And again!

SPAM!!!

Greetings from the Mad Backrouter! ;P

Arty's new version of R3 and Nepster's levels resolved.

Icho's:
I know you told me before but I forgot; what does this come from again?

My avatar is simply the logo of my favorite Melodic Death Metal band: Soilwork

The tilte of the level is simply a song they made in one of their album releases. You could also watch my video again as I mentioned it there as well. ;P

I am using a Quake 2 music track (which is roughly in the same music genre direction) as I don't want to get into copy-right things and stuff, but I guess that using an instrumental version would have been alright anyway.

I will make a montage video of all the different solutions to my R3 level alongside with the new and updated levels at some later point! ;)

Also here is an updated replay of bulletride's Frostbite level as my replay broke with the last fix --- the solution is basically the same though.

Here are the 2 updated levels + zanzindorf's new entry

The "!" on the Longest Minute is appearing and disappearing in some versions. Was there a multiple change of mind about the name? ;)

For zanzindorf's level some additional technical feedback: It looks great, but consider sacrificing the Lemmings spawn out of the mouth effect for a proper hatch as it is not clear where they spawn really. Maybe try and animate a fish mouth hatch? Also the minimap color is missing in your tileset --- simply add a fitting color for it in the GST and the minimap (old quality) is not a black void anymore ;)
