Lemmings Main / Lemmings 2... Beta!?
« on: June 20, 2006, 01:55:03 AM »
I was digging through my hard drive trying to find my copy of Lemmings 2, and I pulled out this.  I thought it was the actual game but when I ran it in Dosbox I was greeted with an entirely different experience!  I believe I've got a copy of some prototype or press demo, as it's quite different (and in some places much more awesome) than the game we got!

Let's begin when I first started it:

This, here, is the sound card setup screen.  This is a lot different and prettier than the final (which was a text based all around setup program) and when I chose the Sound Blaster it did not ask for address, IRQ, etc.

The title screen is arranged differently.  Now it consists of two boxes with options in them, and little red orbs.  The final is just a lot of buttons.

I tried out the map.  You can't get to any of the tribes, it just says "not yet available".  And it hovers the text over the cursor, something that doesn't happen in the final.

This is the level select, and it is very strange.  First off, the Circus logo seems to be different, and slightly ugly.  Secondly, the level is new.  Third, and this is really cool, you can scroll left and right on that little thumbnail of the level to get to the other level, as demonstrated.  There are only 2 levels.  Fourth, there's a whole skill that was left out of the final!  It's called the User.  It's apparent use was that Lemmings could only use items in the level (like the cannons, catapults, etc.) if they were Users.  Seems to have been dropped.

And here's the first level.  The HUD at the bottom seems different, and there are a number of operational changes:
1. You can't click anywhere to stop the Fast Forward/Pause/Fan.  This really threw me off when I discovered it, and it's quite annoying.
2. HUD shows 'In', 'Ou', and 'Ti'.  Those are icons in the final, right?

View of the bottom of the level.  L2!

The stacker makes a solid block, sort of like L1's builder.  No block looking things here.

I made that Stacker a Ballooner and it got stuck in the block.  Not even the Fan could save it.  The balloon may have a different color, but I didn't go into the final to check.

It probably isn't, but the Archer's arrows seem to be colored different and also have slightly altered physics.

Just in case, the Attractor may be different.  Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Seriously the best part.  The Nuke!  No more countdown.  I doubleclicked on the nuke button and all of a sudden all my Lemmings inflate then explode!  I laughed my head off.

The finish screen looks horribly unfinished (how ironic is that?) and it also seems to embrace a points system.  Interesting, I got 300 points just for nuking everyone.

Also, the music is slightly different.  Not as in different tunes, but sounding different.  Here's a comparison clip I put together.  First is the beta, second is the final.

And that's it.  That's really weird that I found it in my download archives. This thing is probably already known of, but I posted just in case.  I'll upload this beta soon, but it's late.  What do you think?

Site Discussion / Upgrade done
« on: June 19, 2006, 10:25:39 PM »
Surprise update time!  We're running SMF forum now, with a theme sort of like the old LF.  I have no time now to fix the theme up; I can do that tomorrow.

Until then, enjoy and bask in the new features! ^_^

Lemmings Main / Where to upload Lemmings files
« on: June 03, 2006, 09:37:19 PM »
If you need someplace to upload something that isn't a level (you can use the site for that), use the Lemmings File Portal instead of asking for a good hosting place.

Site Discussion / New features!
« on: May 31, 2006, 09:03:31 PM »
I've made some mods to the board, so know we're got new features:

1. The Last Post column on the index now links to the latest topic like the old LF.

2. Custom titles are back!

3. I set up user ranks, based on the Lemmings 2 tribes (going around in the order they'd be if you played L2). You start as a Beach Lem, and every 50 posts you go to the next tribe, until, at 600 posts, you become a SuperLem.

OK, that's all for now.

Site Discussion / A solution to the lag!
« on: May 31, 2006, 01:00:52 AM »
Well, not a direct solution, but Ice Eagle thought I should post this, even with my sig link.

A NEW FORUM is the solution!  Which I have set up!  I've run boards on this hosting for nearly 2 years, and I guarantee there's never been lag.  The new boards run PHPBB, and I am working on making it like these familiar forums.

So, maybe we should migrate.  I really can't put up with the lag and it's probably resulted in a few members disappearing into nothingness.  Sooooooooo....

Click here to visit the NEW Lemmings Forums!

That's all for now.  Of course, some of you will think this is senseless advertising, but really it's just me trying to help out the community.

PS.  Andi, I can make you an admin if you register there and proove you're in fact Andi.

Site Discussion / Your ideas for the new forum.
« on: May 30, 2006, 09:04:19 PM »
Well, here we are.  As this is the new Lemmings forums, it may be time for changes.  How do you people want this Lemmings Forums to be?  Any changes?  New boards? Different boards?  Heck, just tell me what you want, and it might happen.

Lemmings Main / The Lemmings Remake Topic
« on: May 29, 2006, 01:10:58 PM »
This is the official topic for the Lemmings Forums project, the Lemmings Remake.  This post will explain it in detail and will be updated with stuff.

What is it?
The Lemmings Remake (can't remember if we have an official name yet) is basically the original MS-DOS Lemmings game, except with an entirely new set of levels created by the community.  When complete, there will be 120 new levels to play in.

How can I help?
Go grab Lemedit (or the upcoming Lemmix editor for Windows), make some levels, and post them here.  The genius level solvers will go through them and find all the problems and decide where it'll end up in the game.

What's the progress?
Heck, I'm not sure.  We're kind of stalled right now.

<<In the future, a list of where some of the levels will be in the game will be here>>

So, now, discuss this game, make new levels, all that stuff.

Site Discussion / Here we go

All righty, these are the new Lemmings Forums.  All that extra-crunchy goodness, without that troublesome lag!

I'm trying to set it up as much like the real Lemmings Forums.  A lot of the current theme is placeholder (for instance I just stole the LF logo) until I get some time to fix it up.

OK, have fun, and enjoy the non-lagginess!

Level Design / Some level problems.
« on: April 21, 2006, 10:40:12 AM »
My brother is insanely addicted to Lemedit.  So, that would all be fine.  But he's having huge problems with his levels.

First off, he made a level in the Crystal style, for his custom game using the Lemmings Remake EXE that puts the levels in order in the level packs.  I believe he also has plugged in the ONML sets as VGAGR's 5-8.  This has to do with the second problem.

And these problems are:

1. In the Crystal level, whenever he tries to play it, OMGWTF, the whole screen's graphics glitch up, except for one lemming.  We quit the level, and then the whole game's graphics are garbled.  We don't know what it is.  We've run it through the Lemedit level checker, we've replaced the Crystal VGAGR file with a version from the original disks, nothing works.

2. My brother is having special trouble with the ONML graphic sets.  He put them in the game folder as VGAGR 5-8, and he also renamed the GROUNDxo.DAT's.  He can make levels fine with them in LemEdit, except for one small problem-- on anything other than Brick, the exits do not work unless the Lemmings are falling into it.  It makes no sense-- the exit is, in fact, on the ground, and we've checked that it has a proper Y postition.

I'd upload these levels to take a look at, but I can't get into my website's FTP to upload it.  Any clues, people?

Lemmings Main / Where all Lemmings downloads will go!
« on: December 10, 2005, 10:25:06 PM »
This is probably the third time I've opened this site, but what the heck!

Everyone remember the Trapdoor, the Lemmings site that never got off the ground before?  I've figured out a way to make it easier.  I'm not going to give out Lemmings info (everyone knows it already) but instead, The Trapdoor is reborn as a download portal!  You can upload your files or download some.

http://www.ksoftgames.digibase.ca/lemmings

Note that upload confirmation is currently turned off, but if I see anything non-lemmings related or inappropriate, I'll enable it.

The interface is a little bit un-user friendly.  If you don't fill in one of the starred fields, it will most likely reload the page and empty out the fields, and after uploading, there is no message saying it was successful or anything.  It just drops you back to the upload page.

Enjoy!

Lemmings Main / A new Lemmings site has opened...
« on: September 13, 2005, 11:54:28 PM »
...and you don't want to miss it.

If anyone remembers, back in November of last year, I tried starting up a site called The Trapdoor.  It failed miserably.  Well, I just refounded it, and it's aimed to be the ultimate Lemmings site.  It runs an advanced portal with the ability for members to contribute, and it has a forum... with file uploading, the feature everyone has wanted!

I couldn't stand waiting any longer to open this, so it's a bit unfinished.  I'm still working on tweaking the forums and getting a guy I know to make a logo for me. I also need to add Lemmings info, solutions, etc.  Contribute your Cheapo and CustLemm levels to start building our download database!

And now, the link you've all been waiting for:

http://www.ksoftgames.digibase.ca/lemmings/

(Sorry that it's on my other site's space but I couldn't find another host.  Maybe I'll get a domain name later)

Enjoy!

EDIT:  Also, if the Trapdoor grows a bit, could I use the Lemmings smilies?  I like them.

Lemmings Main / New Lemmings Site!
« on: November 06, 2004, 12:09:02 PM »
Visit my (incomplete) Lemmings site, The Trapdoor.

http://dhost.info/lemmings

The forums are up, but nothing else.

I need help designing the site! My plans consisit of having two bars on each side of the site (left for navigation, right for polls and links) and a center area for site content. The news should be lifted from the Trapdoor News board in the forums. So may other sites look like this, but I'm dumb and don't know how to start. If you can help, PM me ASAP.

General Discussion / Webhost
« on: November 04, 2004, 07:54:22 PM »
I'm going to start a new Lemmings site, called The Trapdoor. (Sorry if its a crappy name)

I need a webhost for it. I've tried to sign up to various places, but either I never recieve the validation, or the signup gets rejected. I need a good host with the following:

At least 100MB space
Lots of bandwidth (At least a few GB )
PHP
MySQL
And probably some other stuff I can't think of now.

If you can help, thanks!

Lemmings Main / Lemmings MIDIs
« on: August 09, 2004, 12:02:28 PM »
Does anyone have MIDI's of Lemmings 2 songs? My younger brother ( he's about 8 ) has become a budding game creator and uses Lemmings music in all his games, but wants the DOS Lemmings 2 songs. The only ones I have found are for the SNES version, but he wants the songs from the DOS version of Lemmings 2. Does anyone know where to get these?
