Lix Levels / Re: Lix Community Level Set
« on: April 08, 2012, 05:32:00 PM »
I know I said I wasn't going to make more levels to distract you with for a while but these 2 I started working on a while ago, (a month or two ago actually, hopefully that means something (doubtful)).
I used the circus set for some variety.

EDIT: I beat Leap of faith, I like it a lot :) good level. I still haven't beat Path of Wickedness

here's a replay of throw the switch. I didn't use all the skills.

so far I'm playing through Humane and they are all of similar difficulty imo. I can't yet imagine what your hardest difficulty is like.

called in the wrong squad. Do I have to 'fling' the lemmings up to the exit? I ask because honestly, this is the one (and basically only) new skill of the game I don't really care for.

Lemmings Main / Re: PSP Lemmings

thanks for this. It's nice to see it myself, since I'm probably never going to get a PSP. It'd be nice if they released this version on Steam or something like that. I'd think it would sell well. (Clones did after all didn't it?)

I noticed that Steel works is like the Windows version. They survive the entrance fall! I also noticed it seems like there are some changes to the levels, notably they are easier. On It's hero time, the RR is lower and you have more time.

I liked your solution to the great lemming caper! mine was completely different.

whoops I made a mistake on Division of Labor (which I fixed here) the one I posted yesterday may be impossible. If this one still yields back routes I'll just go with it or the older version I said was final.

the only one left of mine is soulful bounding leap. If you like one of the version I posted a while back, you can use that one for now. If I improve it I'll just post about it later. For now I can't improve on it.

Then, I have another Tseug adaptation.

Right now I'm working on improving my earlier levels (graphic and neatness wise) Before I understood the program as well. They could use some finishing touches. (only two levels so far idk If I'll revise any others. I'm notorious for making something worse if I fiddle with it too much)

Also division of labor fixed so yet another backroute by geoo is gotten rid of (however they are steadily getting closer to the intended solution)

I appreciate the help for Four Lixes and a Funeral, your doing a better job of getting rid of the backroutes than I did. :P

I solved Impossible dream. I'm gonna guess it's a backroute unfortunately (mostly because of the way I used the miner). I like this level even so. I didn't get a chance to play any other new levels yet.

oh something geoo told me; from now on if I upload some levels into a folder like this it's just to make it easier to move them around. When you put them into your folder put them into where ever you normally do (u don't have to keep them in the folder I did) In this case, the revised levels should just replace the old ones (individually)

thanks a lot for that information. Do you think this would work with Ubuntu? That's what I used in the past and liked it alot, it's basically mostly the same as Linux isn't it? [It's a spin off of if I thought] If only I had two computers. I'm reluctant to do partitioning, I've had such computer problems in the past that I treat everything with extreme caution and care now. But all is not lost!

you can pan without the mouse by pressing backspace, but that rotates you 180 degrees quickly, in other words in will only put you on the direct opposite side of the level.

EDIT: there is one other option I didn't see you mention; Windows 7 ultimate edition which has "XP mode" or something like that is similar to a virtual machine but I think it's a little different. I tried upgrading to it a few months ago (I have home edition) but Microsoft is a little %#^* and gave me a hard time about it.

There's little question that if one were to consider adding more features to Lix gameplay, there are far more low-hanging fruits than gravity.  Things like pick-up skills, exits with a max limit of how many Lixes can go in, pre-placed Lixes, uncontrollable lemmings (in Clones they come up as differently colored, they can still exit and be counted, but not assigned skills to), and much more.

I really like these ideas.
What do you mean by pick-up skills?
-skills that a lemming/lix can only learn when it walks across something in the level?

maybe if/when we get a group of 100~whatever levels in this community set; you can call this one a "game"   Then work on a second levelest with more features and call that game 2.  That would organize it a little better if you ever add more features. (and why stop with one levelset?  ;P)

I just discovered stopping two miners facing the same direction with a basher is possible. (e.i. Tseug's miner trick)

Havoc 8: Lemming About Town

Lemmings: 40
Rescue: 45
Time: 4 minutes
RR: 1
Skills: 1/1/0/0/6/0/4/1

Good: Well I like this level, it's harder than it seems at first. This is one of the one's I never solved years ago. Idk If I actually solved it correctly, but the way I did, I build up to the ceiling at the end and had one mine threw it. I also like the digger trick you can do on the left.
It seems like a level that has some other solutions I haven't found yet.
I also want to mention the decoration is really nice in this level. I love the thick poles on either side

Bad: too many brick levels? ...that's all I got.

After this, I promise that for the next seven days, I will not solve anyone else's levels, all my Lix time will be devoted to building  ;P

then I promise to not build and solve your levels (and other people's) (watch that fail miserably)

FourLixAndAFuneral10- (sigh, I'm just getting tired of hearing that). Good job Proxima, that's pretty much the intended solution. However I have a feeling geoo or some one will still find a backroute.

Stuff In the way- Proxima's thrid solution is pretty close to the correct one. (Remember this was a level by Tseug, no breaks here.) In the original you have 2 minutes. The only thing to do differently, is you start the digging/building/bashing in the beginning area sooner and the two builders that build toward each other go back to the exit from there. The left has to build higher so the right one hits him and turns around, just enough to bash through the final obsticale and nobody turns around.
Clam's solution deserves an honorable mention however, it came within seconds. And I like that trick you used. I attached the version with 2 minutes in case you decide to use it.

Lixes in Arms- Proxima's second solution is good enough. Geoo got the exact route. and for the record, I guess I won't consider your first a backroute since it doesn't save the same amount. And maybe somebody playing would go back and try to save more and realize the other solutions. I don't know how to get rid of it anyway.

Is there a Lix in the house- those are all fine. This was supposed to be an early "trick" level for beginners, that seems more complicated than it really is. I don't know how well I did.

thanks for this. (27a [under Proxima's upload] is the one that's my favorite)

ya know, somewhere... (it had to be someone here or at Lemmings compendium or some Lemmings site. I got it in the past few months) I got flac files of really well done remakes of all the original songs (beast songs were my favorite). I'll post the link if I find that.
[flac files need a special program to run, VLC media player is a good one]

<And lix is a total user made program by Simon, Geoo and a  bunch of other people here. It's a lot like lemmings but completely different. (not really) I recommend it.

I would be interesting in hearing that. A sound card changing the way a song sounds drastically (in a good way at that!) Is tune 3 the one with a "mysterious or urgent" mood? that's my favorite song.

sorry, I can't help you with finding the files.
("you could write a program?" How come so many smart people or should I say; programmers come here?  :-[  :D)

(In L14, each entrance has another one behind it.  ??? Since there are only two lemmings, this is totally useless (but it would be useless anyway wouldn't it?)

Genesis Sunsoft 16: Here is Mr. Lemming's House

Good: an interesting level that requires a little thinking. There's a bunch of different ways to get around the one-way obstacle. You have plenty of skills except no climbers or floaters which makes it a little interesting. The decoration is also good.

Bad: It's more like tricky or even fun difficulty.

yeah, I didn't spend enough time on that, obviously. If you think it's good, you can keep but I... idk, I think I'll give up on doing remakes. I seem to have a much better time making my own levels than doing remakes...  So far not a single level I remade of some one else has turned out very well (initially at least) And I'm much more proud of my own levels than the remakes.

Quote

about Four Lix; in pieuw's solution, he has two lemmings go below while one stays on top and bashes across the entire top platform, until the builder below is done. In Zurlinden's version you have to mine down the steps you build to waste time. If you played both of their levels now however, apparently you and geoo would find other solutions.  And nothing I try to do seems to work. so... I'll go along with what you said.

-and for your recent solutions; IS's level is easier than intended.
-Lix in the house is harder than expected, there's a actually a quicker way to go about it. I'm not sure about this level, if it's any good or not. Idk why I uploaded it actually.
-finally, for Lixes in Arms, it's kinda of a backroute, basically it should be that it doesn't work when all the lemmings are roaming about like normal in the bottom area.
