Reviews / Re: Oh No! More Lemmings - Level Reviews
« on: July 10, 2012, 01:58:42 AM »
Yeah, ONML level reviews finished :D !

I have a few comments regarding the game as a whole:
-first of all; what's with the rAndOm cApitaLIzaTioN in some of the titles?? I don't get it at all  ???
-In Original Lemmings a large number of levels have all kinds of fancy decoration on the unused portion of the levels. They didn't do this at all in ONML.
-I like that [unlike OL] they pretty much utilized all of the graphic sets to their potential.
-Quite a few levels especially in the middle felt like just filler to me. I didn't get that impression with any levels in OL.
-There are no 'repeats' like OL at all.

-----------
Now I'll get to see what Lemmings 2 the tribes is like.....  :XD:
That would be the next game to review I'd think after Genesis is done. (I might even get it eventually)
Of course if anybody wants to review a different game like Revolution I'd be glad to ;P

Lemmings Main / Re: Re-uploaded July 7: Lemmings (and Oh No) CD Audio

Then, apparently there is yet another version of the DOS game with slight variations on CD (as opposed to the floppy disc version)
Here is audio from the floppy version which is clearly different:

That's interesting. The MP3 files (I didn't listen at the others yet) aren't the same files used in the DOS game. Did this CD come with the DOS game? I've never heard this version before.
Soon I'll have to make a thread for music versions :P

EDIT: once I listened to one I realized I did hear this before. But I couldn't find the thread here again  so I still don't understand what this came from.

Does anybody know anything about Windows music?
In the windows version there are 10 or so MIDI remakes of the songs which are really nice but not all of the songs are there. For example The March of Days isn't there as well as all the special levels. And none of the ONML songs are present. Is there a version of these songs somewhere? Or were they just never remade?

 ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley" /> there I go *again* always cutting corners and I always waste my own time doing so.

I should have originally put steel across the whole top. Anyway, another good solution. :) (the anger is pointed at myself)

anybody here have Lunar Magic? (the custom level maker program for SMW)
I've recently got interested in using this again (I barley used it at all since I got it a year ago) and  I might make some levels.

those are nice solutions, but try it now.
note: I didn't have time to extensively check this for backroutes sorry. In any case this level has turned out to be great for challenges and inspiration. by other people too apparently.

interesting about Scale that wall. I still have to try your solution minimac.
I don't think I would really call this level flawed with 'backroutes' though. I think these solutions are much harder technically and somewhat harder to see than the intended. I said this in another thread but I think the game designer may have intentionally left other possible routes in for 'further play enjoyment'. (I know I would do that if I was a game designer, anyway)
Especially because some of them in other levels are ridiculously easy to see. (Goonies)

Lemmings Main / Re: Share your roadblocks!
« on: June 27, 2012, 03:26:14 AM »
I had DOS when I was a kid.

now use miners and climbers - when I first played I think I didn't look at the skills and see the miner right away so I was stumped on this for a little while :D

worra lorra lemmings - It was just generally 'taxing' for me and I usually ended up messing up right near the end so I had to start over so many times I eventually gave up and stopped playing.

Lemming Drops - same as above

Postcard from Lemmingland - This is the roadblock which prevented my solving the game until I was a teenager.

From the Boundary Line - I just couldn't think of the possibility that you need to lose a lot of the lemmings in the beginning.

The Prison - another just taxing level I never really liked much

Steel Works - I had no problem with the first part (taking care of the high up entrance) the building was difficult. i always ran out of builders  ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley" />

the great lemming caper - a tough puzzle level for me, though I liked this one a lot.

no added colors or lemmings - same as above

A lot from ONML. Notably; Lemming Express, And now the end is near (for reasons I mentioned in another thread; Windows version makes it hard), Lemming Rhythms, It's a tight fit. Lemming Tomoato Kechup Facility, Pop your top(s).

Lemmings Revolution;
How do we get up there?

Can't get there from here - I actually solved this level before solving 'Time to get up!' in OL, so after wooping this level I went back and solved that. (discovering the climb/bomb trick)

Bridges - the thing with acid lemmings walking on an empty pool is just weird and not at all logical imo so I had trouble figuring this out.

Just you wait, My Finest Moment, Nice Shootin' Tex, Hit n Run, Don't Let Them Out!...

here's a challenge alternate version of Patience.

EDIT: I forgot to attach the level  :XD:

--
I haven't solved the above challenge yet.  [Solve 10.5 (Scale that wall) in under 2 minutes.] but I think I have a way it might be done;

Quote
block the lemmings on the door above the balloon. Have two or three go left and blow a hole in the floor and have one bash under the tall door then all the way left. Then build to the wall on the left, climb and build over to the switch. build to turn him around then he flips the switch.

Like I said idk if this works or not.

I haven't even finished Pokemon Heart Gold or Pearl.  :XD: (which is nothing new, I'm notorious for playing a game till half way or near the end and then never finishing it)

Was Black and white good? Do you recommend it?

fix to cold irons bound. As a side note there is another backroute which Proxima found but I don't really know if it's easier or not.

Challenges / Re: The reverse levels challenge thread
« on: June 18, 2012, 03:25:29 AM »
for the steel side I intended to take a few pieces away so you could get through. But right now I think I just put the exit on the right side. Or is the entrance there and exit in the middle? I forget  :D
Anyway I was thinking of doing that with all the levels that have decorations on the side. I might just make a level pack about something like that.

I should say that I'm terrible with keeping records and I'm generally not competitive at all so don't count on me for that sort of thing.

I haven't play many but I like Insane Steve's 10th pack. Even though I've only solved 1 level in it so far.
Clam Spammer's first level pack is also very nice.

a good. I liked that level a lot. I'm glad somebody did it.
I was thinking Proxima, maybe you could make a smaller version of the fire for in case somebody wants to use the fire but it's that one is too big. (A shorter but same length since there already is a small square shaped fire thing)

here's another short snow level. This uses one of the steel pieces Proxima made.

For the record, Lemmix also offers action replay and saving replays, and savestates in addition.

savestates? really? how do you do this?
