Lemmings Main / CustomLevelpack Experiences
« on: November 24, 2014, 01:39:36 AM »
Tell of your experiences playing custom levels. What are you're favorites?

The first pack I downloaded and played was ISteve.10
Needless to say I couldn't solve a single level at first. But I remember feeling supremely proud and happy when I figured out "I am I.S." while away from my computer one night. Also, keep in mind, this was BEFORE I had even heard of "I am A.T."

Clam's first pack was the next pack I really tried hard on. FALL AND DIE was about the first level I solved. Mostly because these two packs were in their signature. I tried BulletRide's first pack and found that even more difficult than the former two.

After that mostly I was playing the new Lix levels people were making for the big pack at the time, some were easy and some were hard.

Help & Guides / Windows music in MOD form
« on: October 26, 2014, 12:37:37 AM »
someone is looking for the MIDI songs of the Windows 95 version of Lemmings but in Mod format for Lemmini. Anyone know if such a thing exists or if there is a way to get this?

Lemmings Main / A 'Lemmings Updated/revised' pack
« on: October 17, 2014, 05:27:02 PM »
I'm making a level pack that is to be a revised version of the original. Replacing some of the old levels with those from Genesis, ONML and the PSP. I'm also making some adjustments to levels and moving some around based on difficulty.

What I'd like to know is would anybody be interested in this for Lemmix? If not many care about this project then I'll only make a Lemmini version.

Also; would you like to see 5 or 6 ratings like Genesis had or just the 4 the original lemmings had?

Lix Levels / Lix Double-Level Contest 2014
« on: October 01, 2014, 04:56:03 PM »
This contest is for C++ Lix only. Build from github or ask Simon if you need outdated versions. Forestidia updated some levels to 2018 tile names, these updates should run in D Lix.

Theme:
Make two levels that are identical except for one skill which must be different. [explained further below]

<span style="font-size: 14pt;" class="bbc_size"><strong>Phase 1 - Level Creation </strong></span>
[begins now!]

During phase one, to last one month (flexible depending on the outcome), participants must submit two levels that are identical in appearance and terrain layout and skills except:
<strong>The only allowed differences between the two levels is:</strong>
-One single skill count from the first <strong>must</strong> be replaced with a different skill in the second.  All other skills must remain the same.

For example:
If you have 1 climber, 1 floater and 1 blocker in the first. You can have 1 climber, 0 floaters 1 blocker and 1 builder in the second. OR:
You have 5 builders and 0 bashers, the change could be to 4 builders and 1 basher
So you basically trade one single skill for another.
Another good example: Buy One Get One Free parts 1 and 2 by geoo of the community pack does this.
(link broke after forum migrated at end of 2015)

These are options:
-The Amount of Lix saved required may be different. But the total number of lix must be the same.
-The Spawn interval may be changed

-The # of Lemmings, time other skills and counts must all remain the same. The position of all terrain and objects in the level must be the same.
-Your level solution must not rely on glitches.

-Please give your level a title and enter 'CONTEST2014' in the author form. DO NOT enter your name. Level submission will be anonymous. When others play your level they won't know who the author is until after the contest has ended.

-Also: Please send me replays of both levels of your intended solution/s. Let me know if your level(s) are intended to have many or multiple solutions. Say "NO BACKROUTE" if you will consider anything as intended.

Submit your two [mostly] identical levels to me via PM. Send it with the PM via dropbox or a file sharing site of your choosing [this site does not allow attaching files via PM]. I will not reveal who made each level until the contest is fully over.

You may make revisions to your level but please append a number to each revision. You may alter one of the pair of levels separately but they will continue to be considered as a pair.

<span style="font-size: 14pt;" class="bbc_size"><strong>Phase 2 - Solving</strong></span>
[begins November 8 (flexible depending on the outcome of phase 1)]

I will make a post here with all of the levels (anonymously) available for everyone to download and play. During this time players (that is; anyone, even if you have not submitted a level) can play and upload a replay to any, one, or all of the levels. You may upload:

-only 1 replay per level or version. That is; if a level has 8 versions you may upload 8 replays for each version. But only 1 per version.

DO NOT post a replay in the topic for anyone to take.

Attach your replay file to a PM via dropbox or a file sharing site like filezilla to me. I will give it to the author.

-Each player will receive 1 point for every replay they send in.
-You will get points for each level of a pair individually. But you may only solve one of the pair if you wish.

<em>-While you may upload more than 1 replay for 1 version of a single level you will only be scored for 1 version once. For the sake of freedom you may upload more replays but only 1 will count for your score </em>

During this time every author may update their level any number of times to remove backroutes or embellish the design. Remember to put the version number with your level pair even if only one of the two levels was changed. And remember to send it to me and not post in the thread to remain ambiguous.

Players may upload new replays for the newer versions. Again, remember to send them to me.

Notes:
-A replay for a newer version that is an identical solution to an earlier version will not score points.
-If you have an identical solution to both pair of levels (of one version) they will count as two solutions/replays. But that replay won't be counted any further in any future or past versions.

Also at this time you should post and discuss who you think made each level.  <img src="http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/laugh.gif" alt=":D" title="Laugh" class="smiley" />

<span style="font-size: 14pt;" class="bbc_size"><strong>Phase 3 - Voting </strong></span>
[begins December 1 (flexible depending on the outcome of phases 1 and 2)]

-authors must now send me their final version of their levels along replays of the intended solution. This way even players who could not solve a certain level or found only backroutes are able to make an educated vote for originality (and to some degree funness).

I will make another post with all the levels and this will be their final versions for the contest. Authors may not make any more adjustments to their levels after this. And no more replays will be excepted (at least for scoring purposes).
Anyone [players and authors or even anyone who hasn't participated in either first or second phase so far] may vote on each pair of levels with three categories:

appearance
F-U-N funness
originality

Vote each submission (consider the two levels together) a 1.0 (low) through 10.0 (high) You may not vote for your own submission.
You may also make a guess as to who created each level.
-Enter your votes to me via PM.

The winner will be made president of the United States of America

In the event that I die unexpectedly someone like a mod should feel free to take over the contest and run things as they see fit.

Lix Levels / Lix Level Contest 2014
« on: September 22, 2014, 06:56:03 PM »
I'll leave the poll open for a while [longer than a week possibly].
I will post more details of the contest later. But here is a quick summary. If you'd prefer the rules to be different just say so. I am open to suggestion. A good contest requires lots of discussion.

There will be the designing phase lasting a month then the solving phase lasting a month, then a voting phase.

During the level designing phase participants will submit 1 level to be played and judged later.

During the solving phase; anybody [even people who did not submit levels] may play a level and send solutions (via dropbox or another website like mediafire) to both the creator and me) This is so I can keep a record and announce "so and so solved such and such" but solutions should not be revealed to everyone until the solving phase is over. The creators have this time to correct backroutes and embellish their levels for judging.
Players will get points based on how many levels solved and if they are backroutes or not. Intended solutions will be worth more than a backroute. The winner will be the player with the most points there.

Then during the voting Everyone will vote for their favorites levels based on different criteria like: appearance, playability, 'puzzle funness'. (I only used these three words because I cannot remember the creteria I used last time.)

General Discussion / problem with seamonkey
« on: August 08, 2014, 09:34:21 PM »
to anyone on here that has used seamonkey; have you ever experienced a problem where most websites fail to load? This started happening for me suddenly a while ago. Chatzilla could not connect to quakenet, Lemmingsforum (this site), Deviant Art and numerous other sites would just not load with the message; connection refused. But strangely; some sites like Google and Wikipedia work just fine. I tried reinstalling it but no effect.  ???

Lix Levels / Project Capybara
« on: June 11, 2014, 09:21:18 PM »
Project Capybara is the code name for a new community level set which I'd like to put together. If you'd like to make a level and want it tested/played, upload here!
Also this can be the place to dump reject levels from the first community pack.

goals/focus:
1. focus on features exclusive to lix; new skills and features
2. remake Cheapo levels
3. remake Lemmix and other levels
[I'm not really strict on focusing on any of these rules. But I definitely intend on remaking a bunch of old levels]

To get things started off (actually because I just suddenly got ideas for new levels and have no better place to put them): here is a new level I made for you to play. I wanted this harder/more unusual so I may make changes to it depending on feedback.

*Simon approves this project.

Mod Edit: Restored attachments.

Levels for other engines / [Lemmini] MobiLems - Beta release!
« on: June 01, 2014, 09:10:57 PM »
download: <a href="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/72760678/MobiLemsINSTALL6.zip" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/72760678/MobiLemsINSTALL6.zip</a>
<del>OR check the attachment here.</del> Attachment isn't working for some reason.

NOTE: updated as of October 1, 2014 [version 6]

MobiLems is a Lemmings custom level pack made for Lemmini.

-To those that played my older levels; Many of my older levels are present however most have been altered greatly for this pack. Some even have completely new solutions! There are also over 30 brand new levels never seen before [by most people...]

-The difficulty curve on this pack should be closer to original lemmings rather than recent custom packs such as PimoLems or DoveLems. Most of the levels are easier, or have multiple solutions. The biggest place I'm worried about backroutes is Heinous and Brouhaha.
So if you're new to Lemmings, and don't consider yourself an expert player, my pack is for you!

-I often put little indications in the levels for spots where to build, dig, or bomb etc... If you need bomber timing or precision, look for these spots. There are also often things like this indicating hidden traps.

-Some levels in Friendly [and early Flap-doodle] have secret 'bonus' hidden exits. They are usually more difficult to reach than the regular exit. See if you can find them all!

<strong>INSTALLATION:</strong>
(if you do not follow these steps correctly the game will not work)

1. You need Lemmini to play this pack : <a href="http://www.lemmini.de/" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">http://www.lemmini.de/</a>
2. Backup all of your Lemmings/Lemmini folders (because this is always a good idea in any situation)
3. Extract the MobiLems install package folder.
4. Put the "MobiLems" folder into the "levels" folder of Lemmini. Put the Read-me file anywhere you want.
5. Replace the "styles" (...Lemmini/styles) folder with the styles in the MobiLems install package. [I have added a few terrain pieces to the existing tilesets]
6. Put everything from the "music" folder into your Lemmini music folder.

That should be it! If you have any problems let me know.

<strong>NOTES:</strong>
There is now custom music!

-I have not yet tested this game with SuperLemmini (the new upgraded Lemmini released on the forum by Tsyu) I will try to do this in the near future.

-remember the code to unlock all levels is without passwords is: 0xdeadbeef

<div class="quoteheader"><div class="topslice_quote"><a href="http://www.lemmingsforums.com/index.php?topic=947.msg19835#msg19835">Quote from: DynaLem on 2014-04-09 21:52:02</a></div></div><blockquote class="bbc_standard_quote">Can't wait to play this pack!

A few questions about the pack:
1. Will you add steel to the bubble set? (I know you said you're editing existing tiles, but I'm wondering if you added steel anyway.)
2. I've played some levels in Revenge of the Lemmings, and saw that some of your levels were there. Will you also use those levels in your pack?
3. I saw that you had two versions of "Hard to Port!" Will you use the Crystal version or the Snow version?
</blockquote><div class="quotefooter"><div class="botslice_quote"></div></div>
1. Yes! I did just that. Thanks to somebody who I forget, uploaded that steel on the forum somewhere. I did not draw the steel myself. Ironically it's only used in one level  <img src="http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/XD.gif" alt=":XD:" title="XD" class="smiley" />
2. Yes, however like mentioned above most have been altered.
3. you'll have to play and find out!  <img src="http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/laugh.gif" alt=":D" title="Laugh" class="smiley" />

Tech & Research / custom graphics for Lemmini
« on: March 01, 2014, 01:10:17 AM »
If it doesn't already exist, a detailed explanation on how to add custom graphics into Lemmini like the castle set Pieuw has in his set, would be nice. I mean how to make levels and such. I know how to play custom sets, like Pieuw's.

since minimac posted this:
http://www.lemmingsforums.com/index.php?topic=911.msg18787#msg18787
I'd like to add this to Lemmini and the Lemmix editor if that's possible (and relatively easy). Can anyone explain how? Or point to instructions?
I'm not interested in having it work in the Lemmix player, tho that would certainty be a bonus but I understand that's more difficult.

In Development / New Big Lemmini Pack
« on: February 26, 2014, 09:35:35 PM »
I've been on a roll with making new levels lately, and I'm putting them together into a big pack like PimoLems or Dovelems. It will be about 100 levels most likely. Maybe a little more. It will contain all of my older ones, most of which have been modified to fix backroutes and look better, plus a lot of new ones.
Compared to most custom packs like Dovelems my pack will be easier, closer to the way the original game is. So if you're new to Lemmings you might want to try it. :)

Nobody's played the new ones yet so if anyone would like to play test the new ones please let me know.

------
this is partly why I don't play a whole lot of other people's levels, I'm too busy making my own.  I actually like making levels better than playing them. :D

Lemmings Main / Super Collab level Project 1.1!
« on: January 25, 2014, 04:42:57 AM »
instruktioner:

download this level and add something to it!
You may add:
terrain, steel, objects, including the exit or additional entrances.
You may:
set the stats for the level.
you may NOT:
remove or alter what a previous participant has added. You may however place additional terrain over top of something (which sometimes may be necessary, but be fair with this.) The point is to have as many people contribute as equal a portion as they can. There's not a set rule on exactly how much you can add or how large an area, but keep this in mind.

It's first come first serve. I'll add your name to the bottom of this list, post here if you want to participate. Please post your submission within a timely manner (week or so) once your turn is up. Rename your file "1.2, .3, .4 etc".*

mobius
Proxima
Clam
LJLPM
Pieuw
LJLPM

Proxima

I've begun it so there is my contribution. I did not add any stats (1 Lemming is default). I picked Pillar because it was the only set not used at all in any of the 3 contests.
Please note: after the level is done it may be slightly altered to work in Lemmini or Lix if desired. I have no idea how well this idea is going to work so we'll just have to try it and find out. ;P

*The title of the level does not have to reflect this You may decide the title for the level, this we can fight over, to the death.

example:
"is it a person?"
"is it a type of food?"

winner hosts the next round. you may double post.

Forum Games / Hurt and Heal
« on: December 28, 2013, 12:06:03 AM »
there is a list of lemmings levels. Whoever starts a new round selects the game and levels from the game. We can do official games or custom level packs.
To play, select one level to hurt by subtracting 2 and one level to heal by adding 1
All levels start with 10 points.
When a level reaches 0 it is eliminated. If a level has only 1 point remaining and you want to remove it you must give a -1 on that level and a -1 on another (and still a +1 on a third).
don't double post.

First game: Original Lemmings

Steel Works 8 [-2]
The Boiler Room 10
It's Hero Time! 10
The Crossroads 10
Down, along, up. In that order 10
One way or another 10
Poles Apart 10
Last one out is a rotten egg! 11 [+1]
