Fan Corner / In Need of Ideas
« on: October 15, 2009, 12:27:37 AM »
I require a little help, possibly detrimental to you: I'm trying to break away from Lemmings a little and make the species I based on them my own, and I have a few ideas but remain a little stuck. I have the basics down (though these can change, and if you have any genuinely good ideas that conflict I may use them instead). For example, I have their sexual dimorphism worked out:

The males are mostly scouts, gatherers and scavengers while the females mostly stay put, but hunt and dig when necessary, care for young, and lead the small clans that form in each 'warren'. So they're matriarchal, because I felt like it.

Something I am figuring out, however is the sort of shape the head should be. They eat a mostly herbivorous diet, but eat meat readily when it's available.

However, I'm trying to find a head shape that looks fairly aesthetically pleasing as well as 'accurate', feel free to sketch up anything unique and throw it my way. I've quite taken to the idea of them having fur, which at the moment is suede-like and transparent, but I'm considering changing the colour of it, and/or adding markings. I also added ears. The shape of them could change...

Another is the paws. These have been driving me mad.

I like the mittens because they sort of work since they're a burrowing species (no gaps for soil to get through) and they're easy to draw, but I feel like I ought to change them.

Last but not least, a new name. I'm having the most trouble with this one, as nothing I come up with fits at all. Any ideas on this front that sound even remotely right are very, very welcome, as are any other physiological details you can come up with that sound reasonable. Ready? Go!

General Discussion / Where are we all?
« on: May 29, 2009, 01:47:02 PM »
Solely out of curiosity, I've wanted to find out where we're all based for quite a while - I said in another thread that Lemmings seems to be mainly British, but I'd like to see if this is true.
If you want to vote anonymously, that's fine, but I'd appreciate it if I could hear where you're from if you do select 'Other'. =P

The person who designed them calls them 'mop-top mascots' but it's clear what their inspiration was:

I'm going to try to make or acquire one of these as soon as I can. I'll post pics of mine if and when I do. ^^

Forum Games / Caption Competition
« on: October 07, 2007, 11:00:50 AM »
I came up with a bright idea last night, while scribbling randomly. How about a caption competition...?

The speech bubble is the Disembodied Voice(...naturally...) but you can write for the lemming as well.

Fingers on buzzers, people.

Fan Corner / The Builder's Arms Inn
« on: August 13, 2007, 11:05:53 AM »
I figured that this'd be a good idea... It's based off the concept of Canterbury Tales. Basically, there's a huge storm and various travellers end up in the inn, trying to stay out of the storm.

You can pretty much work in any character from any 'Universe', at a stretch, and in fairly limitless numbers. Profiles go in the profile thread, people. Just make sure that unless you're some weird mystery guy, you mention the character's name in the first paragraph. Or else describe yourself.

Where you've come from and where you're going is your decision. Now let's start, shall we?

-----------------------------------------------------------

Ch'mera stumbles in, looking decidedly bedraggled and with the occasional spark of static flashing in her hair.
"Ugh... I hate flying in storms like this." She half-collapses onto a seat at the bar.
  "Coffee. Now."
"We have coffee but it's not on the -" Ch'mera growls, tail flicking and wings ruffled, and the barman stutters. "O-of course. S-sorry about that." The barman hurries off to get a cup of coffee.

General Discussion / Help needed!
« on: June 10, 2007, 05:58:00 PM »
I've acquired a new friend. One of the neighbours found the little guy wandering around in their garden. So we're looking after it until it's big enough to fend for itself.

However, we have a dilemma. It could well be a permanent resident of the garden, so we need your help to...

NAME THE HEDGEHOG!

You can suggest any name you like.* We're not sure whether the hedgie is male or female, so either/both is fine. So get suggesting, pronto!

*All suggestions to call the hedgehog sonic will be ignored. =P

Lemmings Main / Project Continent
« on: April 26, 2007, 08:32:10 PM »
Named in honour of a site long dead, Project Continent is an attempt at actually going somewhere with this thing. It's not for me to contribute to, or anyone in particular. We'll need help from everyone we can.

Not just programming and things, however. We need ideas. Let's face it. Lemmings is blank, a blank canvas. That's why I got into it - I could go almost as far as I liked with the theme and ideas. What we're going to do is flesh it out, give it a story, do something with it.

Any takers? I have many ideas, but I'd rather you all gave it the thumbs up or down first. Maybe added your own ideas.

Hasn't been baked yet, but I'm workin' on it.

Eventually I'm going to do little sculpey figurines for all eight skills.

Does anyone here have any designs for a lemming plushie, or at least some good advice for creating my own? I and a friend are making one.

General Discussion / 1984 in the making?
« on: September 19, 2006, 06:47:59 PM »
Recently, in case no other people here watch the news, there has been 'talking' CCTV cameras installed in Middlesborough, England - uncomfortably close to home for me. The cameras are manned from a main room, with police officers watching your every move, 24/7... one toe over the line, however, and they can tell you to stop this time. Tiny offences like dropping a gum wrapper and even just cycling in a pedestianized zone, no matter how safely or sensibly, are worthy of public humiliation.

Read the Daily Mail article for more, and Government jargon attempting to say it's the right thing to do.

"This isn't like Big Brother. This is Big Brother."

General Discussion / Alert - New virus on the loose
« on: July 07, 2006, 04:04:58 PM »
Our own Mr. Ksoft's been taken down by it, as well as Conway The Z-Bomb virus is inverse - the better your antivirus software, the more damage it does. Sunrise(you may know the jerk) has been spreading it. I'm not going to tell you its URL, but watch out for any addresses containing 'z-bomb'. Especially from Sunrise's friends.

Apparently he made it and spread it simply because he was bored. I am alerting his nearest Sunshine Home for Psychopaths as we speak.
