Fan Corner / Lemmings-inspired levels in Super Mario Maker
« on: September 17, 2015, 07:09:47 AM »
Hey, long time since I've posted here. Anyway, as the title says, Lemmings-inspired levels in Super Mario Maker!

I've made one, and I'd love to see any if you guys have made some (or will make some).

Mine is: A TASK FOR BLOCKS AND BOB-OMBS
It's based on Fun 1-5
FFF7-0000-0054-1A85

Please try it out (and Star it if you like it), and share your SMM level ID codes!

Here, I will maintain links to useful tools for editing Sega Master System's Lemmings on a system not running Microsoft Windows. This include's Pooty's Lemmings Level Converter tool.

All downloads are in the attachments for this post.

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Odd language in POKéMON
« on: April 19, 2011, 08:37:28 AM »
Way back in Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow, when a trainer ran out of Pokémon in a fight, it would say…

Code: [Select]
RED is out of usable POKéMON!

RED blacked out!

Then in Gold/Silver/Crystal, it changed to…

Code: [Select]
GOLD is out of usable POKéMON!

GOLD ///whited/// out!
(Emphasis added)

I mean … blacking out is the more usual phrase for that kind of event - fainting. So … any idea why it changed? I think in more recent games, it returned to being blacking out.

I just wondered if it had anything to do with the JINX controversy.

Help & Guides / Compiling L++ - need some help
« on: November 19, 2010, 12:10:47 AM »
Ahoy there,

I'd just like to know if anybody has had success compiling the L++ source code on any platform.

I'm trying to build a version for Mac OS X so that I can play.

I'm guessing that I need libenet-1.2.2 or lower (libenet-1.3.0 seems to be incompatible with L++), but I'm not sure which version of Allegro.

I tried Allegro 4.4, that didn't quite work. I might give 4.2 a shot later on.

Any tips?

Lemmings Main / Sprite request! Lemmings 3
« on: April 07, 2010, 11:04:41 PM »
Hey,

Does anyone have the separate sprites for the Classic tribe Lemming out of
All New World of Lemmings? It'd be much appreciated.

If they're already up somewhere, my Google-fu is failing me.

Lemmings Main / Lemmings PSP/PS2 Music - Listen Here!
« on: March 07, 2010, 05:18:29 AM »
Firstly, go to this YouTube page and listen to the PSP/PS2 tracks.

Then vote for your favourite!

My guess is we'll see a lot of votes for Old Tune 3? What do you think?

Lemmings Main / Lemmings Again
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:48:14 AM »
So, many will remember that I was writing a Lemmings clone that I asked for suggestions of the styles. Well, it's coming along slowly. I haven't got a decent screenshot to show, so y'all can feel free to accuse me of vapourware if you want. Fact is, however, I've not had much time so it's coming along slowly as I say. 8 week holiday now, though, so I should have more time. No more uni for 8 weeks. Yay!

Anyway, I've sort of taken the game in another direction. It's kind of looking like Lemmings 3 but not really. I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me with graphics? I need some high resolution graphics of a Lemming.

I'm not too great at animations, and the Lemming would be the one with the most frames. Would anyone be able to help?
I'll let them beta test the game :-)

Basically as above in poll.

Seems a better question than asking what kind of style would be best for each style in Lemmings, I'll ask what spirit you would prefer.

Doesn't matter what you vote, I'm just interested. MAY swing my mind, but I doubt it. I vote option 3 because I like to think I somewhat have a sense of creativity.

What do you think?

Lemmings Main / Lemmings quiz
« on: July 20, 2009, 11:47:58 AM »
You know, I've never known such a bunch of whiney complainey b@$+@??$ in all my life. I set easy, simple to follow rules, and then a bunch of ?@?K3?$ waltz in and think they're all that and can simply ignore them. Are you too good for rules? I made the rules so there'd be order, there'd be a reasonable way to decide how to play a game which can't be moderated very easily, and I had to moderate the ?u(K/?? thing on my freakin' own.

Well, you know what @?$3??/3$, good luck maintaining a quiz on your own without any rules to follow whatsoever. I hope having no game structure and way to decide how to resolve conflicts makes things more fun for you.

First question to start you guys off and then I'm out of here:

Lemmings Main / Sort this out ... Special graphics levels!
« on: June 10, 2009, 10:44:51 AM »
Got a bit of a situation with bizarre information going around. Click the link below, it's a link to a YouTube vid. But specifically, check out the comments by KingOfTehJs... something seems wrong.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maa9iauP0Go

He argues that the Special graphics levels came in a rerelease of Lemmings. I dispute that, because it contradicts Mike Dailly's own story and also would mean the Amiga version compared to the DOS and Atari ST (nearest releases at the time) had them and the Amiga one didn't. Makes no sense.

So have a read, and if you can shed some light on this, post it in response to the comments there. Also post here.

Seriously, doesn't make sense to only include the special graphics levels in a rerelease. If anything, they'd be REMOVED in a rerelease to save space on disks.

Lemmings Main / Tandy Music going up!
« on: May 30, 2009, 10:31:30 AM »
I've decided to record all the Tandy tunes for levels from the first few Lemmings games. I'm uploading them to my YouTube account: http://youtube.com/zapzupnz

These are little known, because most people play in DOSBox using the default setting (SoundBlaster).

Enjoy. :-)

(PS: There's other music in the mix, including some PSP tracks).

Many many many ... MANY ... levels are made with building in mind. I know, however, that many level designers hold a disdain for stages with excessive building (myself included). Levels like "Heaven can wait (we hope!)" and "Pillar of Hercules" make me want to claw my eyes out.

What do you make as alternatives? A few I've seen are about nicely timed digging, bashing, mining. Some are about one Lemming going forward and digging a path backwards. Some are about blowing up blockers or walkers.

What do you do?
