Ah, it returns, to live again...

Anyway, I haven't changed mine, even though it's the wrong size. I'll probably do that soon :P

My avatar is the one I used on Lemmings Universe. I originally found it on an M.C. Escher site and edited it a little.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Lemika on July 08, 2004, 04:20:20 PM
I changed it now :D

It's basically just one of my old avatars, but colorized in the computer. Well, not that old, but not the newest one either :P

Yoshi. w00t!

Anyways, I have a spinning blade from my level set I want to use for an avatar... I have to size it a bit better, though... I hate auto re-size.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Liebatron on July 10, 2004, 02:35:34 AM
i've never had auto resize happen to me...but then again this is only my second avatar.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Andi on July 10, 2004, 08:42:27 AM
I just read in LUDB again, you asked my why I don't add the mising arm. Well, kinda simple. I made this avatar with Gimp. But just before I saw the mistake, I uninstalled Gimp. And now I'm too lazy to install it again. ;) So I wait until I make a new avatar, which is may not too far away.

t_w wins the award for Most Irrelevant Topic Revival... we'll be talking about something completely different in the next few posts if the past is anything to go by XP

Anyway, no avatar just yet.

Yes, but we still have to blame Lemeri for the original :D

Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: DragonsLover on July 11, 2004, 09:34:09 PM
Here is mine! But a little bit blurry! :???:
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: G3K on July 11, 2004, 11:01:02 PM
The reason it looks blurry is because it has been resized - on the old board, you could tell it what size it was and it would display it at its actual resolution, but this board streches the images to fit a certain size; a side-effect of this being the blurriness.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Andi on July 12, 2004, 01:10:03 PM
Hm, I thought of adding a modification that fixes the problem. But then we might have a day without board again.

i'm thinkin about a new avatar soon even though i just got a new avatar...O_o
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: G3K on July 13, 2004, 12:46:21 PM
Just out of boredom, I decided to try and name all of the preset avatars:

012 - Cait Sith (Anime character)
2 - Mario (SNES Mario Kart, most likely)
3 - Tails (SA2, by the looks of it)
366 - Pikachu (Pok&#E9;mon, funnily enough)
375 - Blastoise (also a Pok&#E9;mon)
377 - Mewtwo (Same)
4 - No idea
404 - Scyther (Pok&#E9;mon again)
405 - Eevee (Do I need to repeat myself)

The rest already had names. And the reason I've had to edit this post is because for some reason the Enter button decided to actually post the entry instead of starting a new line for some reason.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Andi on July 13, 2004, 12:51:40 PM
They are all from an avatar set. there very originally about 600 or so. I only took the best ones. I think I renaim them all to good names.

Ax, enlarge the number over the lemming's head and upsize the font that's in the speech bubble for your ava.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Conway on July 25, 2004, 12:51:12 PM
Lem'ka - The term 'Eraserhead' only seems to be from one scene. In this scene, ***Spoilers follow. Do now read if you intend to see the film!*** Henry, the main character, has a dream where he is in a theatre inside his radiator, with a lady with unusually large cheeks. She is on the stage singing, 'In heaven, everything is fine . . .', after which, he reaches out to touch her, but experiences a blinding light when he does. Then, a tree, which is a larger version of the one on his bedside table, is wheeled onstage. Then his head falls off, and a larger version of the head of his deformed baby grows in its place. His head is on the floor of the stage in a puddle of its own blood, which it then sinks into and falls down a tall building and lands on the ground with a splat. It is still in one piece, so a young boy picks it up and takes in to some sort of factory where he sells it to two men who use it to make pencil erasers. ***End of spoilers.***

&#A0;Like I said, that's not the sort of scene you would want spoiled for you if you wanted to see the film!

&#A0;Timbalisto - Is it a horror movie? That's an interesting question. It certainly has horror elements, and a fair amount of blood and gore in places, but it's not horror as in scary, just a little spooky and confusing. There are no skeletons, ghosts, undead or zombies, and there is no connection to the occult.
Title: Re: Avatars

Sounds intersting, actually. I might see it now  :P

Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Lemika on July 25, 2004, 02:18:10 PM
Yeah, me too.

Anyhow, I actually did change my avatar and signature. This was mostly for two reasons. One, I haven't been using Rapier lately - I've been using Corrosion instead. Two, the other one was getting old and boring.

Introducing: Lem Explorer Jones - new ava.

"So what's so different about it Mr. trendsetter?" you say...let me show you:  For one, I used an untapped graphics style (......I think........), second, it will be the first ava in a series (that I know of.  If this is incorrect, tell me).  By series, I mean my avas will track Explorer Jones's progress through the cold northern wasteland of (insert name of place similar to Earth).  Also, I will have a map in my signature to go with it, that shows Exp. Jones's location on his journey.  Third and last of all, this avatar is a stab into the other direction, and contrasts sharply with the fancy avas and sigs.

EDIT:  Well, I guess my graphics style is similar to G3K's Tails pic....but I didn't mean for it to be, and the Tails pic doesn't seem original anyhow.... ;P

Nope. Located as in, 'I've found (located) the perfect avatar! Woot!' But yeah, it's kind of a round-about way of saying someone has to make it first.

EDIT: Yar, me new avatar.   :D.  It's about a place I was in during a dream.  It was like some RPG that I was in, and as far as I can remember, it was the coolest one ever.  I've started writing the history of this place and what it's called.

(Looks down)

...Ah, yes, my sig.  Well, that's just some quote from a Sequarisan soldier marching to Sequrin, the evil opposite of Seqauris.  If he goes there, he will likely die of a certain weed that completely covers the ground, grows to about ten feet tall, and sucks people under into the other weeds, which suffocates people.

The army from Sequaris is going to try to hack the weeds down, and prevent them from destroying their village (the weeds spread).

And yes, I did change my avatar again. It's basically something I scanned in and colored [this (http://www.familylees.net/~morgan/reaperguy.gif)] in Photoshop, using a tablet I just got for Christmas. I think it turned out pretty well, considering it's the only thing I've really done with it yet. Only thing aside from a few doodles, that is.

And no, I don't know exactly what it is. It's some sort of nifty shadow creature or something. Maybe it's undead... maybe it isn't. Whatever. I'll try not to change my avatar for a few weeks now. O_o

For the uninitiated, The Raccoons was an extremely kickass cartoon series which ran from the mid eighties to early nineties - I only ever saw it when I was five or six years old (1996-97) on the early morning kid's TV programmes, which the BBC cruelly scheduled to coincide with the time I left for school, meaning I rarely ever got to see a full episode T_T

Here it is...my new avatar.  I drew this one using a symbol for a post office from my German book.  Somehow, I suspect that this symbol is out of date, as my german book is about 10 years old or so.  It's either that, or, the stupid symbol never really existed in the first place.

Anyhow, that is a cool symbol, so, idea for avatar.

Title: Re: Avatars

I would suggest something really weird. Look around in your room or wherever your PC stands and count the things you see. When you have reached your day of birth divided through your month of birth (just cut the stuff after the point away) make a photo of it or draw it and use it as an avatar.

For example, you are born at the 8th of February. So 8 / 2 = 4 , count things up to 4 and take that as an avatar.

And if there's an result below 0 just multiple by ten.

Seems like I just signed my death. Of course it would be stupid to put such a sign up. I once saw it and thought: "Huh? WTF is that? - Whatever! Next pic!" I never really thought about it, and if I would have thought about I may have realised that it doesn't exist.
As for the Germany part: Seeing such a sign around here wouldn't really suprise me. Germans are World Leaders in wasting money. xD
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Timballisto on May 07, 2005, 11:12:11 PM
I think there might be a reason for such a dumb sign.  It's either this, another reason, or the fact that, again, someone is really good with Photoshop.

One day, someone made a sign that used the same materials and edges as the one in the avatar.  Someone cut themself on the sign, and sued the person who made it.  To prevent this, the sign in the avatar was created...only the fact that people can't read the part about the bridge being out ahead kind of ruins the point of making the sign.

You know, I should make a sign like that, and put it up somewhere....now THAT would be funny!!!

You would probably be able to read it normally, I had to resize it otherwise it wouldve been too big for my avatar.

...I don't know.  You might be able to read it when you're walking past it, but I doubt anyone who's driving will catch the bit about the bridge.  They'll find out sooner or later anyhow...heck, I don't see why the people wouldn't just close the stupid road.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Andi on May 10, 2005, 04:19:09 PM
Okay. A closer look at it.

1st look: That's typical 4chan stuff!
2nd look: Seems really like Photoshop. The colour of the sign around the text is slightly brighter than the rest.
3rd look: 2nd look could also be possible because of the low quality.
4th look: The quality is too bad.
5th look: The sign doesn't even have sharp edges. They are rounded.
6th look: This sign is just too weird.

edit:// better versions:
http://carcino.gen.nz/images/index.php/5922d576/1edba836
http://www.fortliberty.org/patriotic-humor/this-sign-has-sharp-edges.shtml

Looking at the second pic:
The quality of the text is just too good.
--> Photoshop.

edit2:// and there are some differences in the brightness between the upper and the lower text. If the pic would be a real photo I don't think they would be there.

Well, it's that time again -- in other words, I changed my avatar. I had definitely had the last one for too long.

Lem'ka again, of course. Hopefully, that's obvious. This is just the small part of the sketchy thing I did for my latest layout that I could actually be bothered to color.

And in case anybody is wondering why the heck I suddenly changed my name, it's because I suddenly realized that everyone who didn't know me back on Lemmings Universe was probably actually pronouncing it Lemka. So I thought this should set them right. Even the thought of people doing that annoyed me.

'Course, that's not hard to do.

Err... Adam, the avitar isn't showing.

Lemika? hmm. I still prefer the original lem'ka, but thats okay.

I'm thinking about changing my avitar. The problem is, finding something worthy (and funny) enough to replace the one I already got. I actually quite like this one (while hating all my others).

Ahh, forget it. I'll leave it as it is.
Title: Re: Avatars

Answering the little thing below your avatar, here is what I think summarized in four bullet...er, dash points:

-Wood is a good thing
-Tomatoes have feet
-People eat stuff
-Avatars are good

That was the version for people in senior management.  The below will state my true opinions...uh, my apologies if you are in senior management.  I can't find anything better to tack it on to.

Anyhow...

I don't know for sure.  After you see the avatar about one hundred times the joke behind it usually is dead and decomposed by then.  Take mine for example.  It is in my opinion dying but not yet dead.  Then again it might already be dead.  Bah.  No matter.  Anyhow a change would be nice but this avatar is still okay by me.

No, I'm not in senior management (are you crazy? I'm only 17!).

Title: Re: Avatars

I could go into some strange and drawn out tale... or I could tell the truth. Every time I tried to add a nose on, it tweaked me. So I just left it off. I figured no one would really notice, but apparently I was wrong. :D

Besides, it's really kind of hard to tell whether Lemmings have noses... right?
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Timballisto on July 06, 2005, 04:53:59 PM

Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Lemika on July 06, 2005, 06:40:05 PM
Yeah, yeah, I know. Actually, I'd say those are more like snouts. It doesn't really matter all that, because whatever you wish to call them, I can't draw them satisfactorally, so I thought no snout [or nose, or whatever] was better than a poorly drawn snout [or nose, or whatever].
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Timballisto on July 06, 2005, 08:07:22 PM
Well, this is my new avatar...

"...What the?..."

I can explain.  Almost every year I go to a concert for the fourth of July.  It is outdoors and everyone sits on the grass.  Nearby the concert area is a playground with giant swings.  Giant swings are fun!  It's also got a slide and other stuff farther back.  As the color of the grass changes to brown (only happens around the swings) the elevation becomes higher.

This is a map of the whole thing.  Oh, and there are fireworks after the concert.  I watched them from the swings.

Dynamite Headdy. It's an old overlooked Genesis/Megadrive Classic. Probably the second best platformer of the system.

I don't expect most people to know about it, since it was so unpopular.

The game involved you progressing by shooting your head at various things. Sounds weird at first, but once you're used to it it's a lot of fun. It comes complete with various mini-games and bosses that at times it makes Sonic 3 & Knuckles look quite inferiour.

The game itself is very challenging, I still haven't completed it :-(.

I recommend you try it at least once... ...if you can get a hold of it.

EDIT: I recieved your PM AstralLemming. Hopefully this will give you the answer you require. :)

Explore, my old one was from a film called The Hudsucker Proxy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110074).

My new one has a little story behind it. I'm currently doing a course about finding employment, and a few days ago, part of it involved solving a series of these sorts of puzzles. There were sticks set out in the shape of a fish. The puzzle was to move three sticks to make the fish face the other way, and one person on the course said "That's supposed to be a fish? If I had a fish that looked like that I'd f***ing kill it!"

That's just a line that has amused me to this day.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Jazzem on October 15, 2005, 09:36:41 PM
Yeah, I've had that puzzle before (And a few matchstick ones like it).

Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: geoo on October 16, 2005, 09:23:10 AM
Well, the fish one is fairly simple.

I know one probably known, maybe a bit unfair:

Correct the following equation moving only one stick:
|| = XX|| / V|||

(The '/' is actually a fraction line, not a matchstick, but I suppose even if it was a matchstick, it wouldn't change the solution.)
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Conway on October 16, 2005, 02:48:22 PM

Title: Re: Avatars

Title: Re: Avatars

Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: geoo on October 16, 2005, 07:10:49 PM
Yeah, it's unfair IMO, but not cheap.

Actually, the equation after changing is not completely correct: The right term is only an approximate value.

Well then, that's not an equation either!

The equal sign in mathematics really does mean absolute equality.  If it is only an approximate equality, you need to use the squiggly equal sign to denote that.

As you can see above, the equation is not true. The number nine (IX) shouldn't equal six (VI). Just add 3 sticks to make this equation correct. ;P

Well yes, I know, but anyway, I know it that way.

In fact, have you ever seen a completely even matchstick? I really doubt that. So, the equal sign, laid down using matchsticks, will never be one. ;)
(OK, that is just a cheap excuse; when I draw an equal sign using a pencil it isn't completely even either. ;))

Anyway, the answer is...
_
|| = XX|| / X||
(This is meant to be a Pi; and note, the matchsticks forming the '=' aren't completely even. ;))

The answer to DragonsLover's puzzle is to place a I after the X, making it 1 x 1, and a bar over the I on the right side, making a square-root sign.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: ccexplore on October 17, 2005, 11:09:01 PM
Interesting.  Though that would make for a somewhat ugly-looking square-root sign.  I was thinking it should be more like this in matchsticks:

Code: [Select]

Cheap? &#A0;I don't think so. &#A0;I think it's easy. &#A0;It took me about seven seconds to solve.

Take the stick farthest left and put it on the right side of the division sign 10/2 = 5
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Conway on October 18, 2005, 11:13:21 PM
Oh, I guess I was so consumed in the cheapness of the intended solution that I didn't think to check for more conventional ways!

 Try this, moving one stick:

 X=V/|

(There are many different puzzles that could us this trick. I just need to find one that doesn't have a more obvious solution!)

It's a backroute, if you prefer. &#A0;:P

Speaking of "backroutes", since DragonsLover didn't specify the letters have to be the same size and the matchsticks whole, here's a "challenge":

DragonsLover 1:  use no more than 1 matchstick to correct the equation

"This is not a glitch-free solution, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to do this, given the limited number of matchsticks."  (Hint: Break the matchstick into 3 segments to form a smaller S)

[/parody] ;P
Title: Re: Avatars

It's a valid solution, so you can't call yours the solution.

It's a backroute, if you prefer. &#A0;:P

I assume you're meant to form the letter S to spell SIX; but I much prefer the other way. More mathematical; more honest.

I'm not sure guest's solution is acceptable, since the same letters have rather different shapes and orientations in their two occurrences.

Here's mine solution: Move the "\" of the X further left to turn the "X" to a "V".  Or, turn the "V" into an "X"

X=V/|

Hmm, if we assume the fraction bar "/" is also a movable matchstick, here's a wacky take on it:

Move the "/" on top of the "|" and make it horizontal, so the equation reads X=VT.  Which can be interpreted as a physics formula relating position (X), constant linear velocity (V) and time (T).  (Basically, distance = speed x time.)

Wicked avatar, Lemeri!

Guest and Explore, I suppose both your answers are correct. I can't say about your physics solution, since I'm not familiar with than terminology.

Still nobody's spotted the intendeds solution, but I guess that's my fault for not making sure it couldn't be beaten any other way!

Oh, and it doesn't involve putting a line through the equals, and you can only rotate the line you move.
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Proxima on October 21, 2005, 10:46:49 AM
Rotate the top bar of the equals to form a greater-than sign.

Although, if we weren't restricted to rotation, I have another really cheap solution:

Break the I in half. Five over one-half equals ten.  :P

= and / becomes - and >. Only one is moved.

Ah, I see!  :P  A classical scope ambiguity.

You meant we're only allowed to rotate the stick we move, not to move one and rotate another. I took you as meaning we're only allowed to rotate it on the spot, not to move it in any other way.

2 of my favorite mathcsticks puzzles. One's a but known, the other is, I think, original. Don't know. Someone else may have done one of the 2nd one's before.

1: You have 4 matches arranged in the shape of a + sign. What is the fewest number of matches you need to move to make this into a square? No breaking/bending of the matches is allowed.

2: You have several matches arranged on a table like this:

What is the fewest number of matches you need to move to make this into a correct equation? That is, an equality? No breaking/bending of matches is allowed.

HINT: If you're having problems, maybe you can approach this from a different point of view...?
Title: Re: Avatars
Post by: Conway on November 04, 2005, 07:30:08 PM
1. 1: Move one match out slightly so a tiny square appears in the middle of the +. Of course, this relies on the matches having straight ends.

2. 1: Move one stick from the = to the -, then view from above; 28 - 16 = 12
Title: Re: Avatars

EDIT: Strange... It's now appearing as your avatar every time.
That's what happens. Evidently it either goes into the brower cache or the server recognizes your IP. It would be better to upload it to somewhere that doesn't deny direct linking from another site.

Sorry, It's a site I regularly visit, and I didn't know it denied direct linking. It's understandable I suppose.

EDIT: Fixed :D

Good to see you back Lemeri  :)

Lemeri I've played one or two of your levelpaks and the levelpak oldbutgo.dat has misplaced exits and there is a floater missing on level 10 and I can't complete the level  :(

The time limit is also too short on Level 7 and I can't complete it in 5 minutes. It would need 4 or 5 more minutes or so to complete. There's also levels missing in bigqthree.dat

I made those years ago. They are deeply flawed. Maybe some day I'll redo them.

On another note, I changed my avatar.

Lemeri one of your levelpaks is in the Lemmings file portal. bigqtwo.dat is the file. bigqthree has only one level and almost nearly all your other packs I played seem ok apart from oldbutgo.dat which has too many misplaced exits and level 10 is impossible because there is no floater to stop the lemming from dying. On level 7 there is not enough minutes to complete the level. It would need 3 or 4 more minutes to complete.
